D.C. Bars Package Up Popcorn and PB&Js to Comply With Alcohol Delivery Rules | Eater DC

"In Bloomingdale I remember that a visit to the beloved Showtime bar used to mean cheap Natty Bohs, pizza from nearby Bacio, and Sunday night concerts from house band Granny and the Boys, and now the bar is sending out a $50 care package that recreates that experience at home: a 12-pack of Natty Boh, a bottle of Club 400 blended whiskey, a bag of Utz chips, a peanut butter-and-jelly sandwich wrapped in foil, and a Granny and the Boys record." - Aparna Krishnamoorthy

We went to see Wicked. had some popcorn an Icee a pepperoni pizza(pretty good for movie pizza)and some cinnamon pretzels(very dry, missing a dip) Pretty clean and welcoming. The staff we encountered was very friendly and beautiful 😻 we wish we would have said something lol 👩‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍👩

Great value theater. Incredibly kind, helpful staff. Ryan especially went above and beyond to solve an issue. Would recommend!

Google
Adding a star for the very low price of admission, but this was one of the more poorly upkept theaters I've ever seen. Speaking of theater 4 in particular, and in order of shock value: 1. The screen was damaged, with regular shaded vertical lines all across, like a strange hotspotting issue and a very odd extra smear right in the center - the curtains across the top were somehow, literally hanging down onto the screen - and projection contrast/black level was surprisingly poor; image was hazy, something I'd expect to see at home from a cheaper consumer projector with a dirty lens. 2. The house lights, and strangely arranged theater doors stayed fully on/open throughout the trailers/preshow, and we had to get up to close the doors ourselves 15 minutes after the movie started as the lobby daylight was streaming into the theater. 3. Bathrooms were small for a movie theater and poorly upkept - full unflushed toilets, empty soap etc. 4. Yes the seats were comfortable but also almost entirely stripped of their faux leatherette covering. It felt very much like a theater ran wholly by (and perhaps catering to) disinterested teenagers without the drive to fix anything. All this to say, one shouldn't expect a premiere experience from what is admittedly a budget chain (and truly I don't think I've paid $8 all in for an evening show since the early 2000s) but seriously look at the screen - that's a little ridiculous - and much more distracting when you see the static pattern during panning "bright" shots, like looking through a filthy window. A movie theater needs to *at minimum* do only 2 things without distraction - and that's a clean smooth screen and clear audio.

Google
We love coming here. It's clean, the staff is nice and friendly, food is what you ask for and fresh. Love the Tuesday specials as it makes it easier on a larger family's budget.

Anthony M.

Google
It's without a doubt the best deal in town! Everything is sold at a discount compared to other movie theaters especially on Tuesdays! You have a clean theaters first run movies and at a price a family can afford!! You really can't ask for anything more!!!

Nancy S.

Google
This movie theater is spectacular. I loved this place, the chairs are great. The popcorn and drinks were great. Our family went to see Superman.

Lizeth P.

Google
I went to watch Superman, but the experience was disappointing. The movie had narration playing throughout the entire film, and the picture was off-center on the screen. I spoke with one of the employees, but they said they couldn’t do anything about it and would need to contact someone else to fix it. Overall, it was definitely not a great experience.

Emma M.

Google
It’s pretty good they should just clean better and get new seats

Yelp
I love this theater. I literally will only ever go here, it's so cozy and comfortable, and welcoming! Every movie I've ever watched here I've enjoyed. I still remember watching the ghost busters here! I love wicked. And I fell in love with it here at the theater when it first came out and I'm glad to have been able to watch the final one here again. I cannot wait to come back and watch more movies. I love this establishment, and I like that it's not overcrowded when I come. It's amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
The movies were so good like all the movies that they came out they were like so good. I like that Jurassic World rebirth and that's it so that's what I wanted to share.
google avatar

Erik O.

Yelp
Amazing little movie theater... We've been in the area for a few years, but given the timing with Covid never went. Now that we've gone, enjoyed the big relaxing chairs. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Date: 14-June-2024 Time: 7.05pm Total (before tip): $17.00 Payment type: Cash Movie: Bad Boys 4 Grade: B We were in the neighborhood and decided to go to the movies! I wanted to see the new Bad Boys movie. I didn't anticipate for the movie theater to be as busy as it was, but I guess that's good! We got our tickets and settled into our seats. The seats were a bit run down, but still comfortable. The refills were free. I like the fact that we still have independent movie theaters. Overall, I enjoyed the experience! Solid B experience!
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
I like and support this local movie theater because... 1) We need smaller theaters. Everyone and all movies don't require $20 Dolby Cinema/IMAX screens. 2) It's nice to have a smaller homegrown feel. Especially when bringing the kids. 3) They also hire special needs people. 4) The bathrooms are always clean. Pro-Tips: - Buy your tickets in person and save the online fee! - There are more than enough restaurants in the area, like Olive Garden, Chilis, and a nice Mexican restaurant too! - Go easy on their butter. It hits the stomach hard later. Lol!
google avatar

Gabby Z.

Yelp
overall good theater. if your in the area use it. the tickets are cheaper than everywhere else. only negative i'd say are the screens aren't as bright as in other ones and it gets really humid. other than that the seats are nice and have nice layout.

Julie Z.

Yelp
The worker there was incredibly rude. I walked in last minute to buy tickets and I kept using my card and it kept being denied after the third time she said what card are you using? I said American Express. She finally told me they don't accept that card. I was frustrated and she was rude. No apologies but rather snippy and said I can't see what you are using. Blonde wavy hair who is named "Kaitlyn". Learn a little better customer service. Seats are good and price was good.

Yelp
New release movies, $5 matinee with leather reclining seats??? Count me in!!! With the rising prices of movie theaters nowadays, you have to appreciate not cashing in your 401K to go see a new release! This place does not break the bank and you're rolling in style with the leather reclining seats. Now, with these prices, it attracts the younger crowd and the service staff are just the same... careless and not attentive. By 1pm, 2 hours after the place opened, the place is a mess, there's popcorn everywhere on the floor and the supplies are a total mess. I, however, don't mind because I don't do concessions. I go to the theater to watch a movie not to have a meal. With that said, I recommend every patron to bring your Clorox wipes and wipe down your seats and arm rests before you flop down and get comfy. Enjoy the show. And please, get off your phone! After you check in to Yelp, of course

Jesus M.

Yelp
I can't say I didn't expect this but the movie was okay it just had a weird smell in the theater and the seats were worn like scary looking worn. I love York theater in Elmhurst so maybe I'm just spoiled but it seems like you get a better experience. I don't live far so in a time crunch I wouldn't mind but honestly I doubt I would come back. I understand that these are older buildings and set ups but I fell like they can do more with the concessions......No refills on popcorn unless you get the combo????? You already charge 5 dollars for a dollar box of candy which I don't mind paying and did but really.

The Broz T.

Yelp
Saw a movie there tonight and will not be back. It is NOT safe. People just walk in without paying wearing blankets around them with big bags of outside chips. The girls behind us must have been smoking pot at some point because the smell was very strong. I think too many people have caught on that they can walk in for free and it is attracting people who are disrespectful and don't follow the rules. People are on their phone during and families with young kids in a rated R movie. The space was dirty and unkept and the air conditioner was on even though it was cool outside. This used to be our favorite theatre but it has really fallen apart. I would never bring my kids here even though they have a good selection of kids movies.

Yelp
Bumping my review to 5-stars. They are closed during the covid pandemic but they came up with a very clever idea. They are doing curb side pickups for giant bags of popcorn, including the movie popcorn butter and movie popcorn salt, sodas and some other movie snacks. We bought a couple of bags and will watch a Netflix movie tonight.

Robert C.

Yelp
It is a very clean theater with affordable prices. I also like that when you purchase your ticket you can get you concessions at the same counter.
google avatar

Tania H.

Yelp
The prices are awesome but the cleanliness of the theatre was severely lacking. My recliner was caved in and leaned to one side. The chairs were very dirty and I'm not sure what was in the cup holders but it had been there for a while. It was a mix of multicolored crud that had dried and cemented itself inside the cub holder. The theatre was very warm when we walked in and it wasn't full yet.
google avatar

Ada R.

Yelp
I just got my tickets refunded from Fandango. Was looking forward to going to the theatre to see Mission Impossible. I called ahead of time to check that they have AC fixed. The person on the other end of the phone said it wasn't working in screen 1. In my last review the management said that they fixed AC and tonight I was told this is t fixed because it's an old building.
google avatar

Jeannette A.

Yelp
Cheap and great for family fun. So glad they remodeled and upgraded their chairs because it use to be ghetto. Love going their now

Gary A.

Yelp
Though renovated not that many years ago the shabby factor is setting in. For the discounted experience I guess you get what you pay for. Best bet in town though even against other theaters in the area charging full price. Mostly the four stars are for the gross bathrooms. Otherwise I'm content for the price!
google avatar

Misty S.

Yelp
In this economy, I cannot love a dollar (or $1.75) movie theater more! The concession prices are cheaper than regular priced movie theaters. They also have ICEE!! You buy your movie tickets at the concession stand (not outside). It's clean and there is plenty of parking. Okay, so they don't have stadium seating, that doesn't take away much from my theater experience. I hope this one sticks around for a while. It seems that the name of the theater changes almost as often as the movies they are showing. CASH ONLY!
google avatar

Gino H.

Yelp
Great movie theater. Seats are spaced out and recline, decent selection of movies, and cheap matinee prices. Minus one star as they are often understaffed, the fees for buying tickets online are a little high, the movie rewards program add up to free items too slowly, and sometimes the better known movies don't stick around long enough but pretty good overall.

Colin W.

Yelp
The worker Alias was very rude and kicked me out after I showed my ID and I believe he handled the situation horribly and I believe there should be a little refresher for all employees on customer services.
google avatar

Evan Y.

Yelp
Nice small theater. Kind staff and good concessions. It was it bit dirtier than I'm used too, and the screen we were in was noticeably damaged, but it didn't completely ruin the experience.

Brighid F.

Yelp
Great prices and comfy chairs. App is easy to use. Cleanliness could be improved. Parking is plentiful.
google avatar

Jerome N.

Yelp
Their "luxury seats" are not that great. They do recline but they seem old and seem run down. Got tickets through fandango. You can go to the concession stand and pick up your tickets through the machines they have on the counter. They only have two so we waited a bit to get our tickets. Honestly, we didn't even need it. We just walked in after getting our tickets and no one checked them. It was really warm where we were sitting which was in the F row. The air was stale. It was just one of those stuffy places where everyone's heat exertion and breath stayed in the room and you had to sit through that for two hours. It was really weird because as soon as we walked in, it was freezing in the lobby and then the theater was really hot. I wouldn't recommend coming here on a weekend or busy night/day. This theater would have been such a great experience if there weren't so many people and they had the air conditioning on. Go on a really random day because it is inexpensive and the potential of enjoying it is there. It's just that people are really rude walking around so much during the movie and flashing their phones.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Ok, I am an action movie guy. I like explosions and car chases, so it was time to see John Wick Chapter 2. For a $12, I get admission, popcorn and a pop. That is what it costs me to walk into an AMC or Lighthouse theater. They evening have the fancy reclining seats (You can basically lie down at the movies - this is evil genius, you fall asleep during the movie so you have to pay to see it again. Brilliant!). You do not have to select a seat either, walk in and sit down like the old days. Standard movie popcorn and candy, they also serve hot dogs. Having grown up in the Classic Cinemas movie theaters, I will definitely be going back. Cheap no, affordable Yes.
google avatar

Charlotte S.

Yelp
Another update... The real selling point of this theatre used to be the price. They have now switched over to a regular movie theatre (new releases vs. several weeks/months old), which means regular prices. Not a bad theatre by any means, but it makes it just another average theatre now, so I probably won't go back much because I can go to Marcus on $5 Tuesdays instead.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
$2.75 per ticket due to reclining seat upgrade. Still a deal, obviously. (Though $3.50 for a bottled water is a bit ridic..)

Mike G.

Yelp
I'm disappointed to say at the least . Absolutely no security. I saw somone walk in with a blanket qnd it was not checked. Guy at the ticket booth didn't want to see out tickets ,he didn't care. Everyone in the movie was talking the entire time . 13 year Olds were goofing around the whole time. Movie was horrible on top of it, or at least what I got to see, witch was mabie 15 percent. You couldn't pay me to go back here . Go to Marcus where they check your stuff and it's safer , Marcus also has better everything qnd will kick people out for talking and what not. I was literally waitch people take pictures in the movie with flashes n what not .
google avatar

Alvina C.

Yelp
Dollar Holla Tuesday! What What??? That's right $1 for a movie on Tuesdays--not bad at all. I must have passed by this place a million times and just went in for the first time recently for a birthday party. I was very surprised, this place was very clean. The price was definitely right. There is plenty of parking since it's in a huge strip mall. I'm just wondering to myself why I haven't been here sooner. The popcorn is decent and they have a little station to sprinkle different flavorings on--chile lime is pretty tasty! Can't wait to go back again!
google avatar

Don R.

Yelp
I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed about a "second round" theatre that has a premium theatre feel to it. I'm used to "second round" theatres that get movies after they been out a while, like Lagrange & York theatre. However the seats are cheap and the screen is small so they feel like more of a "budget" theatre. This one however is different! Came here last night to see Inside Out (good movie btw) for ONLY 3.50/person ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. Came in the theater expecting the 1952 hard cloth seats that LaGrange has with the 27" screen but they actually have the RECLINING LEATHER seats that all of the new age AMCs and Cinemarks have! Not only that but screen was large, HD & CLEAR. I can feel that this theatre is about to change the way I go to the movies. I think from here on out, I'm going to way until a movie has been out a few months, let all the critics get their reviews in & if it's worth it, come here!
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Decent price compared to other theaters. Nice/comfy seats. Great for kids. Wish you can get tix on line.
google avatar

Kenn W.

Yelp
This is my local theatre and I love it! Reclining seats, friendly employees and a nice selection of the latest movies. We've been back again and again & we look forward to coming back for many more years
google avatar

Vince A.

Yelp
This takes me back to days of old when we'd see first run movies at the Norridge theater and see cheaper movies at the Pickwick or Patio. The theater itself is not super lush like today's mega theaters nor do they have a ton of food options or a waiter but what they do have is cheap movies, popcorn (with a free refill) and cold soda. And really in the end, do you need more than that? They also do kid's parties for about 4 bucks a kid which is a nice cheap party for your son/daughter and their friends.
google avatar

Miguel A.

Yelp
What's not to love about this place. For a reasonable price and there recline seats and the popcorn is fresh. The popcorn deals aren't that bad either for a decent price. This place has some good ac too so I suggest if you get cold quick bring a blanket.
google avatar

Shahab s.

Yelp
They are hands down the cheapest way that you can take your team to a movie without breaking the bank. Recliner seats, good popcorn, cheap tickets and they always have good collection of box office movies. Remember you'll get what you pay for, it's not fancy and high tech at all but you want to relax and enjoy the movie, who cares as while as it's reasonably priced and popcorn is fresh. Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Eric E.

Yelp
Cool place to see a flick. You wouldn't think a lower priced theater with only six screens would have them, but each theater features leather reclining chairs for all of their seating. This cuts down on the number of seats available so take my advice and get there a minimum of 15 minutes early, especially if you have a larger group and want to sit together. Theaters are really clean and each theater is smaller, and intimate. We drive 20 miles to get here..it's worth it.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
Great theatre but always so dirty. Bathrooms are a nightmare and the lobby is just gross. The theaters themselves are good and the seating options plentiful.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Great theater! Always clean and always a good time. You wouldn't think you'd get wide recliners for the price of the ticket, but you do, and the popcorn is the best along with the free refill with a decent price.

Sunshine L.

Yelp
Paid $40 for concessions pop was flat. Asked usher he said oh yes they know it isn't working Coke is responsible. How messed up is that? Blame your vendor plus not notify your customers pop machine not working? And when brought to your attention your solution was you could have water instead.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
What a great deal for shows that are no longer at AMC. Family of three on a Monday at noon, large popcorn, large candy, m&m's, Reese's pieces all for $30 , including tax!!!! Only $2.75 to get in!! Would definitely go again.
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Great seats, great price and snacks are reasonable. I love coming here for movies that have been out for awhile and even kid movies. Glad this theatre is still around after all these years!
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
The cheap movie theater is going by the wayside, folks. I remember to the good ol' days when movie theaters were a little dingy yet a super affordable respite from the intense heat of the summer. There definitely wasn't plush seating and you worried that anything you placed on the floor would stick indefinitely. There certainly wasn't gourmet shrimp cocktail and a menu available to you besides soft pretzels, soda, candy and popcorn. Ah, youth. Well, Picture Show Theatre is a beautiful mix of basic (but clean) affordable greatness. My 3.5 year old has yet to go to an actual theater movie, so we made the commitment and she and I went to see (65%) of Zootopia. $11 later we had our two tickets and a medium popcorn to share. The theater itself was spacious with comfy leather-like recliners big enough for a small adult and a small kid to fit into (my daughter to advantage of that fact halfway through the movie). Volume and temperature were just right and I chalk our not staying the entire movie much more to my daughter's age rather than any of the other variables. If you're looking for a cheap movie in a comfortable setting, get yourself to Picture Show! You won't see the brand new releases, but it's a great place regardless. Pricing below was pulled from their website: Ticket Pricing: Before 6: $2.75 After 6: $3.50 Tuesdays: $2.50 3D Surcharge: $2.00 Please note that there is a non-refundable surcharge of $1.00 per ticket to purchase tickets online.
google avatar

Hersh A.

Yelp
I like this theater. It's a good place to see new movies that get second release for a discounted ticket cost. Since last year or so they have upgraded this theater to have recliners and digital screens. Also, the food items menu has been upgraded. Because of the upgrade, the tickets cost went up a bit. Tickets before 6 pm cost $2.75 and after 6 pm, $3.50. Tuesdays are bargain price ticket days - $2.00. 3D surcharge is extra. I like this place enough to drive from a far distance to come see the movies. I am not much of a rental person so I would like to see the first hand releases whenever soon possible. However, if I miss them at the first release theaters then this theater is my go to place. Check it out.
google avatar

Christy K.

Yelp
We attended the 11:15 showing of Toy Story 4. We were probably the first four customers to arrive. There was a popcorn spill by the drink fountain. Also water spill on snack area tables. We did see staff available to clean up these messes so why was the lobby dirty? Movie theatre was satisfactory. Pre movie music turned off at 1115 then silence for 20 min. We were unable to find a manager but were assured by the staff the problem jad been reported. Waited another 10 min and more customers walked into ths theatre. I think the manager actually waited for these guests and then stsrted previews and show.
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
Your standard second run movie theater. We bought tickets online since we knew they had the reclining chairs and figured it would be assigned. Nope. We got there with our code saying we prepurchased tickets and say that the ticket booth was closed and to buy tickets at the concession stand. The line here was forever long. There was no machine to print out will call tickets. So we waited in the forever long line defeating the purpose of buying tickets online and paying an extra service fee. Long story short- buy your tickets at the theater. We finally sat down in the theater to see a tearjerker of a chick flick drama only to realize there was a group of 12 year olds watching it on a massive group date. They were talking and giggling through most of it and kept running up and down the aisle(to go to the bathroom or get more snacks? I will never know). It was really distracting. The women in front of us were having their own side conversations, which resulted In laughing at inappropriate times. I guess this is one of those situations where you get what you pay for.
google avatar

Dan B.

Yelp
Of second run movie theatres in the area, the Bloomingdale picture show is definitely the best one I know of. The facilities are clean, the seats are fairly comfortable, the screen is in good condition, the projectors are bright and vibrant and the theatre has quality speakers for nice sound quality. Most second run theatres you go to have dirty projectors, old worn out seats, and not necessarily the most clean facilities. This place is a complete exception. For only 1.75 admission it can't be beat.
google avatar

Osiris V.

Yelp
$1.75 for new-ish movies? Yea. Why not wait a few months for it to come here and check it out for a third of the price? I mean you're not going to get the reclining seats or an IMAX experience that you get at AMC or Marcus, but a movie for a buck seventy five?..... Sometimes there are lines at the concessions or there are a lot of kids running around but like other Yelpers have said , you get what you pay for, and for $1.75 movies I can tolerate almost anything. Again ONE DOLLAR AND SEVENTY FIVE CENTS! You could even go all out and pay an extra twenty five cents for 3D! ;) I'd recommend it to anyone trying to save a few dollars. I love movies, better yet, I love watching movies in theaters, so this is a no brainer for me.
google avatar

Ericka A.

Yelp
This is a second run screening venue. It's deeply discounted and you get what you pay for. Regular price is $1.75, with $2 surcharge for 3D. They offer $1 tickets on Tuesdays. Screen and sound quality is decent. I don't need state of the art to enjoy a show. My only real complaint is that they often start the movie late and sometimes forget to turn the lights off. Some of the patrons seem to have checked their manners at the door, but you can't really blame PST for that. From what I have heard, they haven't updated much in the last 15 years. What do you really expect from a place where 2 people can go and see a movie, get popcorn, soda, and some treats for under $20? It's good enough for me.
google avatar

Felix D.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect going in my first time. My imagination told me it would have dirty brown screens and smell like cigarettes and Chinese food. After multiple visits I am very pleased that such a place exists! Being able to see movies in the theater that you missed out on wipes away all the regrets. Service: Fast, Friendly. Can't really say much more as it is a very brief transaction. There are usually no lines. I really do wonder how this place makes profit with $1.75 showings. $1 on Tuesdays! Atmosphere: Relatively clean. It isn't spotless like most theaters that charge upwards of $10. But I don't expect it to be. The important factors are satisfied. Clean and comfortable seats! Bathrooms are a tad sloppy. Movie Experience: Reminds me of watching theaters in the early 2000's! Everything was standard with nothing cutting edge mind you. Sounds and Picture were great. You really do get the experience here. I had thought they would have a projector in the middle of the room my first time. A really cheap price for a movie experience. I was happy to be able to catch reruns of popular movies that I missed out on or just wanted to see again. Looper, Don Jon, Pacific Rim, etc. A place of great value that I hope sticks around. PRO TIP!!! This place gets REALLY BUSY on Tuesdays at certain times. It is really easy to sneak in outside food and drinks! Kekekeke...

Yelp
Looking to catch a flick without breaking the bank? Here's your place! Spent all of $25.00 on a night out for me and my son. This included two movie tickets, large popcorn, large soda, large icee PLUS cheesecake, ice cream and coffee next door after! Yes, we pigged out...but What a bargain! Can't remember the last time I spent so little to check out a show, let alone get anything extra! Theater is very basic...but nicely remodeled and very clean. No noisy kids talking over the movie, so you can hear and enjoy your movie. Their snacks are regular concession stand priced (gotta make their money somewhere). Popcorn is always the big decision maker for me...too many places serve up stale popcorn that has been sitting around for a while, and you can top it off with nasty artificial grease that upsets my belly. Their popcorn here was nice, fresh and fluffy. Didn't see any butter around...but it didn't need any...had the right amount already. This theater is better then the old "bucket" we had in the City. For those who don't know what a bucket is...just a nickname we gave to the $1.00 shows that were around. Unfortunately all of these closed down...so I was estatic to find this place. Sure, you're not going to find movies that just hit the theaters that weekend and enjoy stadium seating. But the screen is great quality, the seats comfy and the sound great! Can't beat that!

Yelp
Even if your friends picked a terrible movie, so what? Yes, this is the part of the review where I, like everyone else, mention movies are only $1.75 ($1.00 on Tuesdays). You can buy your movies tickets, all the candy, popcorn and drinks your fatass desires without breaking the bank. What's not to love?
