OMG, yes please!!
This was another USA Today top 10 pie stop on my US road trip, and this one definitely did not disappoint!! After browsing their awesome selection of options, I ended up getting three different slices + one 6-inch "cutie" pie:
I found the apple crumble to be perfectly tasty, although that was the only item that I can't say especially stood out for me.
However, the other 3 I got were all pretty darn special!:
My "cutie" birthday pie was a bit of a welcome surprise because, as amazing as it looked (which is why I ordered it), I have been disappointed by pies of that ilk at several other places in the past. But boy does Pie Junkie nail theirs, finally delivering the type of cakey deliciousness that I had been expecting from all the prior disappointments!
Meanwhile, my Banana cream slice was somehow even better, especially standing out for its heavenly vanilla wafer crust (which the birthday pie actually also had, but the fit with the banana cream was just next-level YUM)!
And then the key lime was unbelievably even better still!:
In fact, I'd rank it as easily the 2nd best slice of key lime I've had anywhere (including beating out several very good ones that I got down in the keys themselves), with just my very favorite slice from the keys narrowly beating this one out. And perhaps even more impressively, I'd also rank their key lime slice as my 3rd favorite pie slice period! And once again, special shout-out to its crust: in this case a mouthwatering graham cracker bottom that served as the absolute perfect base for the super-flavorful lime filling and delicious whip cream on top!
As alluded to above, I feel like Pie Junkie's secret stand-out sauce is really the extra mile they seem to go with their crusts. Which is by no means meant to imply that their fillings and toppings aren't also fantastic. But I feel like a lot of other pie places (including several of my other favorites) have top-notch fillings and toppings but only so-so crusts; whereas Pie Junkie consistently nailed every part of the pie from top to bottom!
It's truly such a shame that I don't live anywhere nearby (although perhaps not a shame for my calorie intake :P)! But one way or another, I'm quite sure that I will make my way back for more incredible pie joy at some point in the not to distant future! :D
