Piece Of Cake - Review - Decatur - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Piece of Cake has been around offering moist, velvety cakes since The Golden Girls premiered. Rows and rows of cake slices line one wall at the Decatur location, with people trickling in and out looking for dinner party desserts, birthday cakes, or just a sugar fix. What keeps them coming back is the consistency. Every slice delivers—no matter your flavor choice—and has done so for decades. We especially love the caramel cake. It’s a surefire winner for an office potluck or church cake-off. Each forkful sinks through tender layers and thick sheets of sweet icing that melts in your mouth like ice cream." - Jacinta Howard

A Piece of Cake has some of the best-tasting cake—moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The downside is the price: nearly $6 per slice feels steep. On top of that, customer service is terrible. On two separate visits, the staff’s attitude was dismissive and unwelcoming. In some locations north of Atlanta, they do offer a military discount, but I haven’t seen the same courtesy extended at the Atlanta stores. Overall, the cake is excellent, but the poor service and high prices make it hard to recommend.

My mom used to stay in the area. I have not been here in awhile. My favorite cake is the peach pound cake in the summer it's seasoned. Second favorite cake is the cookies and cream cake. Third favorite cake is the Mardi Gras cake I tried years ago.I got cookies and cream cake and chocolate chip pound cake slices. The cake is good. I went Tuesday on bogo day no cookies and cream cake so I went back on Wednesday. I came back here like a week ago. May - July they have a peach pound cake!: Check the website for the actual months it's worth it only seasonal.

Piece of Cake hands down my favorite. It’s as close as I’m going to get Southern’s made. Especially, during a busy Monday through Friday work week. I have been getting the Red Velvet from here since 2019. I LOVE IT!

My mother and I got cupcakes today. They taste like they were made from a box mix (Betty Crocker, etc). Extremely disappointed. I've had better quality cupcakes from Whole Foods. Not coming back.

I've been an absolute fan of this place since I moved here in 2009. Today was the first time I have ever been disappointed. I love their caramel cake and bought 2 slices but today this cake did not hit right. It was soft indeed but dry. I couldn't finish it. I simply dont recall this cake ever tasting this way, even the cake itself seemed different.

Of the places I know for cakes this is the better place. I just want a traditional cake and they tend to provide that here. Today they only had a lot of poundcake, caramel poundcake, caramel cake, and strawberry cake. It was a Sunday evening, so I understand that the others were probably sold out. the caramel cake was the better of the cakes. German chocolate is good here. The carrot cupcake was decent, but I didn’t eat any of the icing as I prefer more bread. Fair parking in the back with the back door entrance. Fair pricing for the size slice cake readily available. The poundcake looks like poundcake, but doesn’t taste like grandma’s or mother’s poundcake. It taste like regular cake. It’s decent tasting just not dense like you would expect poundcake to be. I could see a three star being given to this chain, but when they are fully loaded with cakes; rating consistency, price, taste- I say they are closer to a four star. there must be a place selling cakes like grandmother used to make, I’m still on the hunt. I could recommend this place to a friend, especially looking for a whole cake like strawberry or caramel or German chocolate. It’s a good retail store cake!

1 STAR Cake- dry, dry, dry. This place has really, really gone DOWN! They definitely changed the recipe, and now the cake bread is SOOO dry! I got a supposedly fresh cake form them and when I cut it, it was almost as if you had left the cake out for 3 days uncovered. This cake wouldn't last 3 days in a cake platter. If you want cornbread with icing on it- then this is your place! I'm not rating service or atmosphere- because I don't EAT service or atmosphere- I eat cake. This cake is gross and DRY!

I wanted to share my recent experience at your Decatur store, which, unfortunately, was subpar. I placed a phone order for a company event and arranged to pick it up before the store closed. When I received the order, I immediately noticed that half of it was missing—specifically, a dozen cupcakes. I pointed this out to the employee behind the counter, but she insisted that the order was complete. After I opened the boxes in front of her and showed her the receipt again, her response was, "I didn't pack them. We don't have any more, and you’ll have to call corporate to get a refund." When I asked to speak with a manager, she informed me that no manager was present and offered no further recourse. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, especially considering the clear mistake in my order and the effort I had to make to prove it. Fortunately, another employee who overheard the situation stepped in and offered an alternative product to replace the missing cupcakes. While I appreciated her effort, the substitution didn’t align with the purpose of our order, which was specifically for cupcakes at our event. At that point, I had no choice but to accept the replacement to ensure all guests had something to eat. Overall, I left disappointed and frustrated with the lack of accountability and customer service from the first employee. I’ve previously had good experiences with Piece of Cake, but this visit has left a negative impression—especially with how it impacted a company event. Surely, not a fan of this particular Decatur store.
