I recently gave birth to my son at Piedmont Atlanta, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. We began our journey with Nurse Shelia, who was such a calming presence. She spent real time with us, made sure we never felt rushed, and was the perfect person to welcome us into labor and delivery.
The next day, we had Nurse Carrie, and she was an absolute God-send. I genuinely loved her! She truly cares for her patients. I originally did not plan to get an epidural, but after she and I talked and tried other pain-management options, I decided to go ahead with it—and it ended up being the best decision. I progressed quickly, but my baby flipped breech at the last minute. Carrie could see how scared I was, and she did an incredible job explaining each step of what was happening. I couldn’t imagine having a better nurse during that moment.
Once I got to the OR, my C-section went amazingly well. I was so nervous, but it felt like every single person in that room genuinely wanted the best for me. One of the nurses assisting with anesthesia was phenomenal—I wish I remembered her name. She had such a soothing presence and kept warm blankets on my arms and head to help with the terrible shakes I was having. She took such good care of me, and I’ll never forget her kindness. She was working with Dr. Long on 11/14 in the OR.
A C-section was definitely not part of my original plan, but this entire team made sure I was as comfortable as possible and constantly reassured me that everything would be okay.
Once we moved to the postpartum unit, the exceptional care continued. The staff anticipated my needs before I even realized I needed anything. Wendy and Terrica were both amazing and helped me manage my pain so well. I also appreciated how my doctors continued to come by and check on me. Dr. Counihan was incredible—she did such a great job with my surgery and was such a comforting, supportive presence throughout my recovery. I truly appreciated her.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience. If I could add anything, I would love to see a few more TV channels and maybe a small refrigerator in the room—but I understand it’s a hospital, not a hotel. Even still, Piedmont Atlanta was an amazing place to deliver my baby, and I’m so glad I chose it.
