We have to say, by far, this was one of the worst restaurants on the entire island of Holbox – and unfortunately, it felt like a scam.
First of all, the location is absolutely stunning. The setting is brutally beautiful, perfect for relaxing and doing nothing. A very cute detail: there are adorable raccoons in the trees above, which makes the atmosphere even more special.
However, the food and service were extremely disappointing.
We ordered the beef tartare as true tartare and beef lovers, and we are used to European standards when it comes to raw meat quality. What we received (see picture) was very questionable. The smell was not good, and the taste made us seriously doubt the quality and freshness of the meat.
The service was also problematic. Immediately after we sat down, we were asked if we wanted water. Naturally, you assume a normal price-quality ratio. Only later did we realize that a 600ml bottle of water was charged at 180 pesos. According to the menu, there is a 650ml premium water for 180 pesos. We were never informed that we were being served the premium water or given a choice. This feels clearly misleading and like consumer deception.
Additionally, the staff seemed overwhelmed during the time we were there.
The total bill came to 1,435 pesos, which for Holbox — considering the small portions, questionable food and poor service — is absolutely unacceptable and disproportionate.
All in all, while the location is beautiful, the overall experience was extremely disappointing. We would not recommend this restaurant.
