15 Destination-Worthy Restaurants in the Mexican Caribbean | Eater

"The car-free, 26-mile-long and one-mile-wide island of Holbox stretches north into the Caribbean Sea — and still mostly flies under the radar, as it requires a ferry to get there. Piedrasanta, just on the outskirts of town, is crafted to look like it grew out of the jungle itself. Where bone marrow chars in a wood-fired oven, wicker pendant lights dangle from the trees, and the kitchen mixes both ancient and modern techniques. Order the grilled octopus brushed with a dried chile adobo made from achiote seeds beside a plantain-stuffed tamale wrapped in hoja santa. Or try the seasonal soft-shell crab in a curry-and-paprika-accented batter and served with a hazelnut and caper butter. And don’t miss the cochinita pibil cooked the authentic way, roasted under the earth at a low temperature until the pork falls apart." - Lee Musho

The most welcoming staff. Zero issues with my limited Spanish. The food was out of this world. We had the green risotto and had to come back a second time before we left to enjoy it again! 10/10

Great service and experience overall. Grill Octopus is incredible and staff is helpful and friendly. Wine list could be longer but has everything you need to have a great dinner.

We had a wonderful experience at Piedra Santa. The food was absolutely delicious—clearly made with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail. Every dish was flavorful and well presented. The ambience was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal, whether for a casual outing or a special occasion. On top of that, the service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being intrusive. Overall, a fantastic dining experience. We’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it.

Definitely one of the pricier restaurants in town, but WORTH the money. Hands down the best meal we had our whole time in Holbox. Came for our 10 year anniversary dinner. The risotto is unmatched on the island. My husband got the steak, and we cleaned our plates! Got in with no reservation- but I would recommend making some because they got really busy just after us! 10/10 would go back again. Great atmosphere, walkable from the town area.

This place is so special. From the architecture built into a tree to the creative cocktails to the exquisite food, this place delivered on all fronts. Edwin was delightful and knowledgeable and even made us a specialty cocktail (one of his very own!) The whole staff was friendly and more than willing to talk and share the stories about the food and their lives… all of it was fascinating. We’ll be back again and again

We had a fantastic dinner at Piedrasanta :) Royer was our server and he was so friendly, helpful with explaining the menu and he made sure to check up on us throughout the meal. The food was phenomenal and we definitely recommend visiting this restaurant if you're in Holbox!
