The 15 Best Pies In London - London - The Infatuation

"Bistro Freddie shows how well a charming, twinkling atmosphere mixes with pies that are about as dainty as a pair of Timberlands. The shallow, golden creations from this stylish Shoreditch French restaurant are filled with a variety of changing delights. Be it a creamy chicken velouté with a dangerously gluggable sauce, or a tender beef tongue and brisket combination that’s best approached with a bottle over lunch and an OOO email afterwards." - jake missing

Just a shame it wasn’t very busy. Otherwise hard to find fault. Great service, great food and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Like a small but well executed menu - wings and avocado dip tortillas a great start. The Kate Sidney and Filo Souk Chook were both tasty pies with gravy and the rosemary fries were delicious. Owner couldn’t have been more attentive and popped nextdoor (they also own) to get a pint off the pump. Would definitely recommend.

*** Updated Review *** Finally got back to Shoreditch to find this place open. I thought I’d give it a chance as my previous experience had been to book and turn up to find it closed. Anyway, I had the bruschetta starter, and as I couldn’t decide on the various options & combinations of pies, I went for the recommendation of a pie meal, in this case the ‘Mother Earth’, the mushroom pie on a bed of mash, the mushy peas on top of the pie, all sprinkled with crispy onion. The bruschetta was passable, well presented. The pie itself was okay, it wasn’t mind blowing, maybe my expectations were too high. In hindsight the sprinkled crispy onions were overpowering, so maybe give them a miss. The atmosphere was dark, candlelit, and perhaps more suited to a date night. The service was decent and attentive. All in all, this was okay, but I felt that it was more style over substance.

We visited PieHole as a group of eight, and I would strongly advise avoiding this place. Our experience was appalling, culminating in the owners attempting to physically assault us on the street for raising complaints. We arrived at 7:30 PM and ordered different varieties of the "Mothership" meal. The dishes were served sporadically, and the portion sizes were disappointingly small, with barely any toppings. To make matters worse, the pies were undercooked—far below the standard shown in other review photos. Given the £19 price tag, we expected much better and voiced our dissatisfaction. By 9:15 PM, not all meals had been served, and two of the dishes were left half-eaten due to their poor quality. We complained again and stated that we would not be paying the full bill, which we felt was justified given the abysmal service. At this point, two owners and a security guard arrived to address the situation. The owners were rude, short-tempered, and unwilling to take any responsibility for the restaurant's failings. Every aspect of our complaint was met with hostility, as they insisted we were in the wrong. During these heated discussions, the aggressive male owner shouted at the staff, declaring they were all fired. This led to our waitress approaching us in tears, describing the toxic work environment. Two members of our group eventually left to get food elsewhere. Despite this, the owners only offered to remove the optional service charge and deduct the cost of the one pie we hadn’t received. We rejected this offer, and that’s when the situation escalated to physical violence. Frustrated at this point, I picked up my coat to leave. The male owner followed me outside, squared up to me, and pressed his head against mine in an attempt to provoke a fight. He shouted derogatory remarks and issued threats, warning us to "remember where we were in London" because it was "his territory." The security guard had to intervene to separate him from us. By 9:45 PM, the rest of our party managed to leave after settling the bill with a £40 discount. However, our evening was completely ruined, and I’ve truly never experienced anything like it.

Piehole Shoreditch is a must-visit for pie lovers in London. Their menu boasts a mouthwatering selection of both traditional and vegan pies, each one crafted with care and bursting with flavor. The drinks menu is also pretty decent, offering the perfect pairings for your chosen pie. I opted for the "Moo & Blue Mothership," a glorious creation featuring their signature steak and stilton pie, piled high with creamy mashed potatoes, mushy peas, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, and a generous ladle of rich gravy. It was a true feast for the senses! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal, Piehole Shoreditch delivers a delightful experience. Definitely recommend a visit and I'm already planning on going back.

Had such high hopes for this place, the menu looked great and also lots of good reviews. We went with a table of 8 and the rest of the restaurant was empty. It took over an hour for us to get our food and half the items were forgotten or brought out 20-30 minutes after each other. Half the table got to eat together and different sides and pies came out at different times so either you waited and the pie got cold or the sides got cold. The service was not great and there was no apology for the forgotten items or lateness of some of the items. Won’t be going back here purely based on poor service. Most the pies were really good but some undercooked due to forgetting them and rushing.

Hi, Yesterday was one of the worst experience's I have had in a venue if not the worst. Myself and my friend entered the lounge area yesterday Evening there was no one on the door so we walked in and found seating. There bar was empty After a few minutes a staff member walked in and barely acknowledged us, no greeting, no eye contact, no sorry for the wait. We had to approach him and ask for a drinks menu - to which he replied we don’t have a drinks menu. I then went up to the bar and asked what drinks they have. 'What you see is what you get' was his response. He then proceeded to tell me I was wearing tracksuits and Ill be more suited to next door (bar side) as this was a restaurant. Needless to say myself and my friend duly left feeling embarassed and traumitised by this interaction and experience. The gentleman is a tall white guy with a pony tall and this happened in July 24th at 8pm. Best, Mark Sent from Outlook for Android
