I had high hopes for this joint but it did not deliver on my first trip. I arrived shortly after noon. The place was about half full, and I was seated immediately near the bar. The tables have the requisite butcher paper which you see at most (all?) boiling seafood joints. There were a couple of TVs within view from my seat. The restaurant is clean and comfortable enough.
Service was spotty during my visit. The guy was friendly, but I had to wait for sauces (which were ordered with the meal) and the check. I don't know if they had him overworked that day or what, but it was a bit frustrating to eat there on a work day and not be able to get the check in a reasonable amount of time.
i went with the fried catfish and shrimp basket with fries. The meal is a good size, containing 2 healthy (in size) pieces of catfish and 4 shrimp. Everything was hot, so room temperature is not an issue. The fries were crispy but needed salt. They were fine, not great but I have had worse as well. The catfish was the better part of the meal, it was cooked well in that it was not overdone or greasy, but it needed seasoning as well. I would say the catfish was worth 3 stars, but the shrimp was not. The shrimp to breading ratio was off, and the cocktail sauce had an odd taste I cannot place but it was off putting. The shrimp was also greasier than the other items. Had I just gotten the catfish this would be a 3 star review.
While my first visit left a lot to be desired, I would definitely come back to try the boiled items, as that appears to be the specialty of the house. So, hopefully I am writing an update of this review in the future.
