"You can hear water lapping beneath the floorboards of this boutique hotel, inhabiting a 1912 pier just west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This is where ferry passengers used to wait to cross the harbor before the bridge was built. A hotel was first constructed in 1999, taking care to preserve the original pier pilings and steel support beams, incorporating them into hallways and guestrooms. Today, Pier One is a 189-room beauty that’s part of Marriot’s Autograph collection of unique properties. Co-owner Ruth Magid put extra love into the 18 sunny suites, which she designed like waterfront apartments. Some feature modern globe lights juxtaposed against the original wood-beam rafters, as well as brass sink basins, twin rain showers with side jets, and egg-shaped tubs. Two balcony suites take guests eye-to-eye with the Sydney Harbour Bridge."

Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection, Sydney, Australia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? Tucked beside Sydney Harbour Bridge on a heritage-listed pier, this boutique escape offers stunning views of the bridge, harbor, Luna Park funfair and Walsh Bay’s wharves, near historic quarter The Rocks and Circular Quay. Nice. What’s the crowd like? Pier One Sydney Harbour—part of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection—attracts leisure and business travelers. Its atmospheric, central location suits holidaymakers experiencing the sights and culture vultures attending a show at Sydney Theatre Company’s nearby wharf. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Blending Federation-style decor with contemporary comforts, the 189 rooms and suites are white and light, with large windows. Heritage rooms gaze inwards towards The Rocks or treat yourself to a Waterside room overlooking the wharves, harbor or bridge. Suites separate the bedroom and living area. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? King beds are dressed in fine linens and duvets. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? Rooms include a bar and tea- and coffee-making kit, handy for whipping up drinks while you watch your flatscreen TV. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. Marble basins, stainless-steel fittings and generous mirrors add indulgence to the ensuite bathrooms, with soft cotton bathrobes. Some rooms have showers, but suites feature a deep soaking tub with Australian products by Appelles Apothecary. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? High-speed broadband and Wi-Fi internet means you can work or play. Room service: Worth it? Round-the-clock room service. Select canine-friendly Waterside rooms also offer a minibar with dog snacks, pet bed and bowls. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? Head chef Joel Bickford may have recently departed for Aria, but he put restaurant and bar The Gantry on the gourmet map. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Award-winning The Gantry serves contemporary Australian à la carte and six-course tasting menus (with optional wine pairing), plus pre-show and vegetarian alternatives. Local ingredients star, from Flinders Island wallaby to South Australian calamari. Imaginative cocktails go down a treat at sunset, with seats in the industrial-chic space or out on the waterside deck. Work it off with training sessions at the performance studio. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? Offering Sydney Opera House vistas, Harbour View Suites feature open-plan bathrooms; Harbour View Balcony Suites have overwater decks for lounging; and Admiral Suites offer freestanding, semi-alfresco tubs and dreamy decks. Bottom line: worth it, and why? Pier One’s waterside setting is a wow, especially during New Year’s Eve when fireworks shoot off the bridge. Casual food shack The Kerrigan on the pier serves charcoal-grilled and smoked barbecue delights, including saucy pork ribs, burgers and tacos, plus cider and beer." - Sophie Davies

Google
Concierge were fabulous! So helpful with MY booking mistake, made it work on the spot. Above and beyond helpful with luggage and getting to my cruise embarkation. The food was top notch, as was the service. I felt like Royalty! Every single staff person was so kind and respectful. And then there is the location! Right under the Sydney side of the bridge, yet my room was always quiet. Great views and comfortable bed. I could say much more, but this stay convinced me...5 star hotels are SO Much Better....at least this one was!

My stay at Pier One Sydney Harbour was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. They happily accommodated an early check-in, setting the tone for a seamless and enjoyable experience. The location of the hotel is perfect, offering stunning views and easy access to Sydney’s highlights. Despite its central spot, my room was incredibly quiet, ensuring a peaceful and restful stay. The spacious room featured a big bathroom, a comfortable bed, and thoughtful touches that made it feel luxurious yet intimate. The housekeeping team deserves special mention—they consistently went above and beyond to keep everything immaculate and ensure I had everything I needed. The buffet breakfast was delightful, with plenty of options to suit every taste. Pier One offers the personal touch of a boutique property but delivers the service and amenities of a larger hotel. A standout feature was the still water tap at the end of the bar—don’t miss it! The hotel also accommodated a late checkout, which added to the overall convenience and comfort of my stay. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, I can’t recommend Pier One Sydney Harbour enough. It’s the perfect blend of location, luxury, and hospitality.

Stayed here for a night and it was a great experience. Service was friendly and professional. Everything was easy from checking in to any special requests. Room was clean, comfortable (beds are pillows were fantastic) and would happily stay there again. Special shout out to the young men at the concierge desk Ivan and Augustin who were fantastic and such a pleasure to deal with. Breakfast was also delicious, fresh produce and a wide selection to choose from. Only down fall (I know it’s a pet friendly hotel) however guests should be very mindful of their surroundings and keep pets out of the main restaurant area especially where guests are trying to enjoy their breakfast. I’m all for pets but we need to draw the line somewhere. It wasn’t a great look and that’s on the guest himself NOT the hotel at all.

Google
Pier One Hotel is an excellent choice with a stunning location that truly sets it apart. The views and proximity to key attractions make it incredibly convenient for a memorable stay. The service was outstanding—every staff member was attentive and ensured a seamless experience. The room itself was well-designed, but the size was a bit on the smaller side for a standard room, and it lacked a bath, offering only a shower. While this may not suit everyone, the comfort was good. The bathrooms felt a little outdated and could do with an update. Overall, it’s a fantastic hotel for those prioritising location and excellent service. With slightly larger rooms, it would easily earn a perfect score. Would definitely stay again!

Google
Just spent a fabulous 3 days here. Absolutely the best service, atmosphere and food; and the view is magnificent. This is our 3rd visit and we weren't disappointed. Especially a big thank you for my birthday cake and wine bottle, with note, delivered to our room. Such a lovely touch. Also love that the downstairs rooms opening on to the pier are doggy friendly (this is how we first came to stay here) and that the staff are so welcoming to our four legged family members. Dinner at the restaurant was first rate, and big ups to the two lovely ladies who were our wait staff. Well done and thank you Pier One, we will be back!

Google
A heartfelt thank you to the staff for making our stay truly unforgettable! Before our visit, I called, and the lady at reception was incredibly helpful, providing wonderful advice about the hotel and suggesting the perfect spot to propose to my partner. The hotel itself is simply perfect—comfortable, gorgeous, and offering food and drinks that are absolutely 10/10. We’re so grateful for the amazing attention from the staff and for accommodating us with a late check-out. Thank you for making such a special moment even more extraordinary!

Google
The staffs provided us with top notch services. I requested an extra bed and they would informed that the couch itself can turn into a bed. They quickly set up the couch and put bedsheets on my sofa bed when we arrived. The breakfast is also great and many young staffs are at your service. Location is in the heart of the pier a short walk to the Opera house. Thank you for making this memorable stay for us.

Always wanted to have a stay vacation in Pier One Sydney Harbour, built on and over the water. |Being a Gold Elite member, got a room upgrade. |The hotel is unique in itself and has lots of heritage at every opportunity. |The upgraded room we got was also unique in itself but obviously no complaints about the upgrade. The location of the hotel is absolutely stunning with harbour views. Grab a drink and enjoy the views and the romantic atmosphere with stunning sunset. |The location of the bar in the middle of the lobby brings lots of excitement and bustle to the atmosphere. With harbour views and The Rocks nearby we chose to explore the city and enjoy the local culture Sydney has to offer. |Two reasons I gave 4 stars and not 5, Checkin took almost 10+ minutes. The staff could have been proactive and have reduced the wait time. Secondly some areas in the hotel require maintenance. As I’m in Corporate Real Estate, my eye for maintenance is always alert. |Overall an amazing experience, late check out and courteous staff. Would love to visit again whenever my pocket allows.

Yelp
Me and my fiance stayed at Pier One Sydney Harbour during our stay in Sydney and loved it! The asthetic of the hotel along with the harbour view during day and night was exquisite. The rooms are very clean and beautiful. Our room came with complementary breakfast. The breakfast is amazing and so is the coffee! You can either eat the breakfast Buffett which was still so amazing or order off your phone and have coffee and food brought to your table. This hotel is in a perfect spot and walking distance to everything. When we were checking out I asked the concierge if they sold the cologne scent that went with the shampoo that was offered with the room and they gave me a travel bottle for free of the cologne to gift my fiance!

Yelp
Pier One Sydney Harbour Autograph Collection Great location under the Sydney Bridge, short walk to the Rocks, Circular Quay and Sydney Opera House. This is a high end hotel with good prices, loved the staff, rooms and cleanliness. As I said before, location, location, location

Yelp
Had an amazingly wonderful experience! The ENTIRE team is top notch! The location is perfect, the dining was fantastic, and the room was incredibly relaxing. To start the team was pleasant all around. Each person ensuring we were taken care of and had everything we needed. If we asked for anything they went above and beyond to provide. Concierge was amazing and very knowledgeable with helping to navigate our interest around town. The breakfast was great with a variety of local and continental breakfast favorites. Eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, gluten free options, and someone walking around offering a daily special. There were plenty of options to get your day started. The dinner offered 4 course or 7 course meal. We did not enjoy dinner onsite, but did enjoy a burger from the bar menu! Hands down one of the best burgers although a little messy that I've had. The room had amazing blackout curtains and I truly did not know what time of day it was. With jet lag this was perfect and allowed us to naturally adjust. The tub was great along with other room amenities such as mini bar, ample closet space. The only negative impact to the stay is there was no fitness center. When booking I did not look at amenities offered, because fitness center is typically a staple. If no fitness center perhaps a Peloton Bike, there should be some sort of option since there is no fitness center. The welcome amenities hand written welcome note and care and attention of the staff make up for the lack of fitness amenities. I would hands down recommend and would most definitely visit again. The pictures and online description do not do the property any justice.

Yelp
Very dirty room and hallways. Not even essentials in tbe room. I had to ask for 3 days to get Qtips. Rooms weren't serviced until 4:30 in the afternoons. Odor in room from sewer . Be aware not high standards for an autograph. Very very dirty hotel. Only good thing at hotel the concierge. He was grade.

Yelp
Great hotel! Clean room, great accommodations. The bar area was awesome. Walking distance from the town hub near restaurants and bars. Friendly staff !! Had a blast.

Yelp
Nice hotel...located directly on and over the water, right at the foot of the Harbour Bridge. Walking distance to The Rocks, with great views of the Opera House, Harbour & the bridge. The staff was friendly. I heard that it was originally a wooden wharf warehouse building, so they had to keep the original pillars when they remodeled it. I would say they did a pretty good job of using the space. However, our room (and the bathroom) was small with a tiny window overlooking the beautiful Harbour Bridge in my opinion.

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel before and it used to be a great hotel with friendly staff, well no more... current experience shown that staff is rude, some hardly speaks English, confusing breakfast with dinner on the invoice and management trying to play a "shame card" on guests to cover for its incompetent staff... this is simply the worst hotel experience. By the way you do not need alarm clock as hotel renovative drillings starts at 8 am and completely removes chance of peaceful enjoinment of Sydney Harbour.

Yelp
I was initially torn between giving this a 4 or a 5 star... let me explain. We were here for 5 nights over NYE celebration 2019. When we arrived on the 29th of Dec it was pretty chaotic as you can imagine. We had booked our room exactly one year prior and thought this would afford us a choice room - not so much. Our room was VERY small, a bit cramped in fact and the bathroom even smaller that was why I was leaning toward the 4 star. However, I must say the fabulous bar, the great bar food (from the 'truck' outside on the pier) the awesome views, and the amazing generosity of this hotel for the NYE celebration (unlimited food and beverages) quickly amped it up to the 5 stars and saved it! The staff members and especially the concierges are 5 stars, the bartenders and waitresses/waiters 5 stars, the food (the kingfish tacos in particular) 5+ stars! Everything about this hotel (other than the size of our room and bathroom) is 5 stars. The amenities and the professionalism also 5 stars. Location? Absolutely, unequivocally 5 stars! Truly? Overall we can not recommend this hotel enough. It really IS five stars!

Yelp
My husband and I recently took 2 weeks in Sydney from the States. 1 of our week, we were able to snag a fantastic room with a view at the Pier One. After attending the Pier One NYE Party while staying at another hotel, we knew we were in for a treat during our upcoming stay. To start, the staff was delightful! They were all warm and friendly, greeting us each time we passed through the lobby and always attentive to our needs. From the front desk, to the concierge, to the bar tenders and wait staff, everyone clearly loves their job and it shows! The next best thing by far was the breakfast. Each morning the buffet boasted a bottomless mimosa bar cart, an insane array of freshly cooked hot food, an omlett station, fresh squeezed juice bar, meats and cheeses, locally baked bread, jams and butters, and an insane granola bar including fruit compotes and yogurts to top! We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast every morning with a view of the harbor and a phenomenal spread. While we didn't spend a lot of our days at the hotel, the location is ideal for getting to and from anywhere in Sydney by ferry, Uber, bike, etc. A short 5-10 minute walk to Circular Quay and an even shorter jaunt to some great restaurants and bars (6 Head, and Squire's Landing to name a few) makes it a perfect location for a Sydney getaway! Cheers to the staff, management and experience at Pier One!

Yelp
Just stayed here for 2 nights and 3 days and really enjoyed it. My husband and I both in our 30's and truly felt the hotel catered the the younger demographic. They had amazing breakfast options with paleo granola, almond and cashew milk, among other nice- healthy touches (organic ketchup). The room we stayed in was very nice and recently renovated. I loved the furniture and decor choices throughout the hotel and the entire vibe. We would definitely recommend staying here. Only downside is the location is a little bit outside of some of the main attractions. Hotel is only a 6 minute walk to the bride climb and to "The Rocks" but a 30 minute Uber to Bondi beach and 12 minutes to the opera house. Would 100% stay here again. Ordered lunch once and the pizza was very subpar. I would not recommend (zero red sauce, just cheese on bread) but the chicken burger was delicious.

Yelp
Ok, so we stayed here on Easter Sunday so there are a lot of things I can't comment on, like noise, things to do, shopping, crowds, etc. But I can say it's a very cool hotel. As Marriott members we have access to the free wifi which worked great even on the third floor. The room service is a decent but not great selection. But the chef downstairs is award winning, for what that's worth. The room is spacious and cosy probably due to the high ceilings and floor to ceiling window over the harbour. They're also pretty quite and with no major noise from the hallway. The a/c is probably the best I've experienced in a while or maybe ever. Good thing since the window doesn't open at all but never felt stuffy. There's an IGA (convenience store) down the road if you want to avoid the minibar rates, which aren't bad, as well as a bottle shop with what looks like a nice selection. Did I mention the bridge? We're basically under it, but not in a troll sort of way. When you walk out the front doors you're looking right up at the bridge, very cool. You can also see the (crazy) bridge walkers doing there thing. If you're willing to brace the heights it's apparently worth it. If you do stay here and you're into anything industrial check out the stairwells. Nothing super exciting but some old building aspects are worth a look. Why not five stars? 1. I'm a tough grader and 2. A couple of things. Not big ones but if you want five stars you need to work for it. First there are slippers. I know, who wears the slippers, but it's not the point. There is no tv guide on the tv. In fact the to isn't like a typical hotel tv. There is no menu, seemingly no express check out via the tv, none of the usual things you expect from hotels today. The cons above are really nothing but no point only going on about the positive. And we would definitely stay again.

Yelp
Fantastic boutique hotel with cool, quiet style. Large rooms with high ceilings, big windows and heaps of natural light. Perfect amount of history, elegantly updated. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Great views of the wharf (third floor room). $50 car parking per day, free (solid and fast) wifi for Marriott Rewards holders. IGA walking distance about a block away. One thing I have to mention, I know it's a boutique hotel and have come to expect the boutique-size lifts (elevators)...but I hate them. I took the stairs as often as I could. An absolute new fave place to stay in Syd. Will be back. And highly recommend!

Yelp
Whilst the setting of the hotel is absolutely perfect, I am sad to say, the service is not. I stayed two nights at this supposedly five star hotel for two nights. Had great trouble booking as my cousin was coming from New Zealand and we wanted a twin share. No twin share rooms. As I was also bringing my dog I needed a dog friendly room. That's what I booked first and asked for a trundle bed. I then changed my mind and booked a deluxe room upstairs with a sofa bed and a king. I have stayed in this room before when it was The Sebel. I thought all was fine until I rang a week before to confirm the booking and found they had added three hundred dollars to the price. Not the price I'd agreed to so I changed back to my original heritage room and again asked for a trundle. When I arrived at the front desk the staff assigned me to the Delux room which I explained I had cancelled due to being overcharged without notice. Finally I was shown to my Heritage room without the Trundle bed. My cousin arrived just after the trundle was at last delivered. The shampoo and conditioner was secured to the bathroom wall and you couldn't get more than a drop, there was one tissue in the tissue box and problems with the sliding security door out onto the pier. The door moved so fast it could have sawn a guest in half. There were two tea bags in total and very little milk. No little goodies as one expects from a five star hotel. Back to the trundle bed. Thin mattress worthy of a prison cell. Couldn't sleep on it and had to share the bed with my cousin who had flown in from New Zealand for our combined birthday treat. Next day they took forever to remove the darn thing.

Yelp
This is a great hotel. It has world-class views of the Opera House or the Harbour, and the good times start with the champagne greeting and continue to the nautically-inspired rooms. They even have a great food-truck outside. I can't think of too many hotels that are better places to watch the sunrise than this one, and the fact that I saw several wedding photographers outside confirms that it is one of the most photogenic places to stay. The rooms are not that spectacular, but follow the pier theme. The highlight is the location, good service and hangout spaces in the lobby, and all of these are so good that I can't complain about anything else. A fine use of Marriott Rewards points - hard to find a better one on this continent

Yelp
A funky hotel behind the Hyatt and near treh base of the harbour bridge. Some good vantage spots for pictures of the bustling harbour, good bar area with chilled water after a long walk. Good vibe in the lobby for a coffee or a snack from the food van outside. OUtdoor seating is good on a nice day and the service is good.

Yelp
I'm a big Marriott guy so predisposed to hotels like this but I have moved my loyalties to this spot purely because of the excellent service and fantastic location. Right on the water with a lovely view of all of the expected spots but in a nice quiet spot away from the noise of The Rocks.

Yelp
Sydney's all about its harbour views and this place is all over it! Great views of the bridge and Luna Park on one side, people perched on Pier 2 fishing on the other. From glam to gastro - onya Sydney! I came here for a wedding reception was blown away by the polite, efficient service, gorgeous interiors that were all high-end rustic, and the canapes that had me hovering like a seagull outside the kitchen doors, waiting for the next tray of fried edamame wontons or seared tuna spoons. Unfortunately the meal itself left me wanting, with underdressed cured salmon and overcooked trout. It seems this place is all highs or mehs - so it's mehigh?

Yelp
pier one sydney is going through some MAJOR reno. the rooms are nothing to write home about - especially since the first thing i said when i got to my room was...interesting. it's got a old boathouse feel which means everything was cramped and the layout was a bit awkward. the service however, was really good. we got chocolate dipped strawberries on welcome, water bottles everytime we went out, and very accommodating. they probably know guests are a little side eyed about the renos. valet parking is $55AUD, $25AUD self parking. great location with views of sydney bridge, harbour, and the opera house and walking distance to the rocks. i think this location is just second to the hyatt regency.
google avatar

Yelp
This is what I found while I stayed at this place on 12/14/14. See attached photo. Also their gym lacks certain gym equipment such as free weights for the standard of the Marriott hotel. The room needs touch up of new paint on the wall for scratches and nicks, stain on the couch that I would not want to sit on, and a burnt out over the bed lamp. It just lacks the attention to detail for supposedly one of the high rated Marriott signature hotel. Not going to stay at this place in the future. Going back to Sydney Harbour Marriott.

Yelp
I've traveled fairly extensively. I understand service can vary with location and season. My impression from a colleague of mine was this was very nice hotel with 5 star service. Sadly only the bell desk was up to the task. Twice at the lobby bar I couldn't get served. I am fairly well dressed and a guest. But in under 24 hour I was roundly ignored. The one time I got a drink the bartender didn't know how to make a whiskey high ball. The front desk was chaotic at best during check in. And since I was granted a ground floor room I get accosted each time I walk through the restaurant. For $400 AUSD a night that is simply in acceptable. Next time I'll skip this place and stay farther from the office.
google avatar

Doug D.

Yelp
Pier One is a Marriott Signature property. Great location directly on the water. Fantastic views - especially in the morning as the sun rises and illuminated the Sydney Opera House. Views aside, Pier One is just a regular hotel. The rooms are sort of dated. The restaurant serves a nice breakfast buffet and the bar is popular in the evening. But it's just a hotel - and a very average one at that. But the views! The views and location make Pier One a place to visit in Sydney. Even if you don't stay there.

Yelp
From the moment, we were greeted upon arrival to our departure one week later, we were treated daily with excellent customer service. The hotel is beautiful and centrally located to the Harbour Bridge, the Rocks, endless restaurants, pubs and shopping. The views from our room and the outdoor bar seating are breathtaking. Jose, one of the numerous young staff members, saw to our every need and went out of his way on a number of occasions to assist with transportation needs and reservation requirements. Any future visits to Sydney, will include a stay at Pier One. We wouldn't think of staying elsewhere.

Yelp
This was not my first choice for lodging for our stay in Sydney. Had to change hotels because our original hotel, at the time, had to turn off power during our stay on the last day of a 9 day reservation. Location is super nice; very close to Sydney Harbor Bridge. The dual-pane windows were great at keeping the noise out, loved the power shades. Very convenient, walking distance to Circular Quay and the Rocks. There is a grocery store down the street, about a 6 to 8 min. walk. During our stay we experienced issued with the Wifi; I am a frequent business traveler and use (prefer) Marriott properties and was pretty baffled that there was such a huge issue with the Wifi during the entire duration of the stay (laptop only - mobile devices were ok). A few issues we had were: the sliding closet door - very difficult to use, eventually just left it open. Could not figure out the lights in the shower. I think they just were not working at all. The functionality of the room was a bit awkward; for example, no dresser just a small two drawer that was located in the closet. This was very inconvenient for a 9 night stay. I pretty much left my stuff in my suitcase and let my boyfriend use the closet and drawer. Would I stay here again? Probably not. I am very experienced with Marriott properties; I travel a lot for work so I always book my domestic (throughout the all 50 states & Canada) work travel with Marriott properties and they have been good to me. But there is a huge opportunity when I use Marriott properties for personal travel. Starting to think about switching over to another hotel chain.

Wanted to share what a great experience we've had at this adorable hotel. Fantastic customer service with staff who greet and ask you how your day was. Breakfast is phenomenal and patio is very trendy and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We booked our trip to Australia for our honeymoon through a travel agent, however, we didn't book our Sydney hotel through the agency. We found Pier One through our Marriott membership and boy are we glad we did. We got to our hotel later than we expected after a 36 hour trip, we were greeted with kind faces and champagne! From the second our shuttle pulled up to drop us off to the moment the shuttle picked us up to leave this was easily one of the greatest hotel experiences of our lives! The reception desk was perfect, helpful and friendly. The concierge was more than helpful and made multiple phone calls for us. The room was amazing, updated, modern and clean. The view of the Harbour was beautiful to wake up to, and we could see sunset right from the room! I have all good things to say!

Yelp
WITHOUT PERMISSION, RESTAURANT DUMPED LEFTOVER FOOD THAT WAS TO BE BOXED. Here's my feedback mailed to the hotel management. "We stayed at your hotel on Dec. XX-XX, 2018 in room XXX. Dec. XX night around 8:30pm, we used the restaurant on the ground floor. Our order of wagu steaks and a fish dish were very good. Unfortunately, my wife and daughter could not finish half of their dish for they were full. So they asked the server for boxes to take the wagu and fish leftover to our room. The server smiled and said OK, then took the leftover plates away. We thanked her for boxing the leftovers. A few minutes later the sever came back and told that it was the restaurant's policy not to allow to take out leftovers. We asked what happened to the food. She said with stupid simpering that the food had been dumped already. We were very disappointed. My wife and daughter said they would have eaten more of their very nice food if they had known the policy. We are fine with the restaurant policy, but we do not feel comfortable at all that the server did not tell us about it beforehand and wasted the food without our permission despite that she had okayed about takeaway boxes. We felt a very negative impression about the hotel restaurant's attitude toward serving food to guests. The serving had other minor disappointments like a beer refill order was not performed until 10 minutes after my order with my follow-up asking, etc., but they are much minor to this. Anyways, this one single bad experience hides all good experiences at your hotel like the very friendly and helpful concierge personnel. This particular incident clearly made a black spot to our day one experience in your country."

Yelp
Gym is really poor. No free weights, only 2 machines to lift, and bike was not working. Also they have no executive lounge for elite Marriott members. I would expect more for an autograph collection hotel. I Ordered drinks and pizza at bar and the pizza came out burned on the bottom and drinks were incorrect. Marriott at the quay was much better.

Yelp
Using some rewards points, we spent a week and a half here at the Pier One during our honeymoon. Hotel is smaller so don't expect one of those big, sprawling Marriott locations. Because they didn't have the kind of breakfast that came with our rewards card, they comped us the full breakfast buffet (which is fantastic btw). Location is great (walking distance to The Rocks and Circular Quay). Only thing preventing 5 stars is that when I went to check out, they had put the breakfast buffets on our tab (again, told us it was comped when we checked in), a parking fee (we didn't have a car), and a couple other charges that shouldn't have been on there. It was taken care of, but I don't know whether it was miscommunication or a system glitch. Last thing I wanted at 5:00 a.m. after a 10-day honeymoon was to be haggling over a bill and double checking every item on there.

Yelp
This is a cute and modern boutique hotel right beside the Sydney Harbor Bridge. We stayed here over New Years during our Honeymoon to be close to the bridge for the fireworks show. Location-wise, for watching fireworks, this place can't be beat! For other things, you have to walk a little bit to get to - food, the piers, etc. Nothing too stressful, but it's not in the center of anything. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. They sent us up a bottle of champagne to celebrate our Honeymoon, which was really sweet. The rooms are small and unique. I liked our second room. I say this because the first room they placed us in was really small, right across from the elevator, and right over the bar. I can handle a small room, I mean, we're not in Sydney to hang out in the hotel room, but this room was on the water side, so people are sitting at tables right below the window and you can hear their conversations like you're right there with them. You can also hear the people waiting for the elevator, and the bar. By 11pm, we were tired from a day of exploring and it was impossible to sleep with the noise. Thankfully, they had another room, we just had to wait until the next day (which we were so glad, since it was a NYE weekend). We made it through the night (after the drunks leave the bar, you get to hear them cleaning, etc.) The next morning, they moved us right away into a room not near all the hubbub, and the layout was different (much nicer) and a little larger. That room had a lovely window seat/ledge and a small view of the bridge. The breakfast is pricey, but really well stocked with loads of variety. They even have some gluten free options, for which I was so grateful. They have a waffle bar (not gf), bacon, sausage, eggs (they take custom orders), cereal, fruit, pastries (not gf) and espresso, both on a pod machine you can make yourself, or order real espresso from a barista. There was free wi-fi for Mariott members (but don't worry if you're not one, they can sign you up for free when you check in). That was great, since I was on a limited data plan on holiday. Overall, it's a cute weekend stay, for sure. Beware of room #120 though...

Yelp
Location, Location, Location! This hotel is right on the harbour and almost directly under the famous Harbour Bridge. Our room overlooked the harbour. Breakfast is very good -- they have the best cereal bar I have ever seen -- with lots of great toppings, soy milk option, and several unique cereals. We stayed here 2 nights at the end of our 2 week stay in Australia and it was a good way to wrap up the trip. Close to many eating areas along the pier and The Rocks but away from the noisy hubbub of Circular Quay (but within walking distance). We stayed on points, but it's a bit pricy if paying full fare. Visited December 2016.

Yelp
Great location in Sydney! A very short walk to the Sydney Opera House and the Circular Quay. The lobby/bar area is beautiful with a boardwalk over the water. Grab a glass of wine and enjoy the central Bay Area of Sydney. The rooms are nice, however you would be wise to book a room on the third floor with large windows. This is a very cool hotel. Cheers!

Yelp
Short version; not perfect, but recommended nonetheless. Stayed here 5 days in the first week of March and 2 days in the first week of April. It's hard to review this hotel. I think I summarize it best if I say that this hotel lacks a manager who behaves as if he's/she's the owner. After 7 days of staying I have no idea who the manager is, and the manager also wouldn't recognize me. The most junior hourly staffer recognizes me fine however. A normal hotel owner would recognize a guest who spends upward of $5000 in his hotel. The hotel is run by hourly workers and young people who do travel/work. Staffers from Germany, France, UK, new-Zealand. Almost no locals and more importantly, no long timers. There is a manager working in the restaurant who has never even greeted us, his job title seems to be 'to look busy' and is probably the interim manager from Marriott Corporate. This absence of love is what you feel throughout the hotel. The rooms are fine, but are hit or miss in terms of how they look. Some look balanced and well decorated. Some feel ignored and a bit run down for upwards of 350$/night. The room was not always properly cleaned -it wasn't a mess or anything, just sloppy- the mini bar not always restocked. No biggies, but no excellence either. A new guest will have a more immaculate experience than longer in-house guest. Internet at $10/day or even 20/day for high speed is unacceptable in 2015. That being said: The restaurant is great. Ambiance is trendy, intimate. With tasty light dishes as well as heavier dishes. The view is amazing, the outside bar seat is brilliant. Staff is friendly, accommodating, willing and easy going. Love the breakfast. Location almost unbeatable. Their meeting room looks amazing and overlooks the bay. Short walk from the city center. And a much more welcoming feeling than let's say the park Hyatt. Despite some of the negatives and only a three star rating, I would visit again and enjoy myself as much as I did these past two stays.

Yelp
Have attended this hotel for a couple of events and have chat to the staff from a business perspective as a potential client. The staff and professionalism are fantastic and the space has a very rustic and cool, collected vibe. The only downside was the location, although it was a beautiful view it's not ideal positioning for a client based event during the day. However, as a cocktail venue or as an offsite meeting, the venue is a refreshing location with clean decor and a beautiful view. Although it's beautiful outside, I certainly recommend eating inside for the very reason that Australia's harbourside wildlife are particularly ballsy. It is on the pricier side of hotels but isn't over the top like its close by neighbour, but one of the awkward encounters is if you're walking along the water some rooms can be peered into if the guests haven't been particularly diligent with their shutters. Overall a pretty nice venue, a little out of the way and a little pricey, but the view is nice.

Yelp
Marriott does not disappoint. Beautiful boutique hotel. Perfect location and attentive staff that goes above and beyond normal call of duty. Chose this hotel as we are reward members and am reminded through stellar service why I will continue to choose a Marriott over any other hotel brand. Especially love the Autograph collections as I enjoy the more intimate feel of their boutique hotel environment. My young adult daughter, with whom I am vacationing, was equally impressed with the service which is key as an up and coming new patron who will share with her peer group. Thank you!

Yelp
Impressive! The customer service here is on point! When you arrive at pier one, you are greeted by friendly staff who take you and your belongings, after trying to get to the rocks and having to deal with the "awesome traffic" and "awesome road works" I was given a glass of champagne and strawberries dipped in chocolate on arrival. We had to wait for a room which was over an hour but we decided to take advantage of the hot spring sun and sit out on the wharf and have beers and relax. The roo We requested a waterview room with a sofa bed, it was until later on in the evening after returning back to the hotel at some ungodly hour, I pulled out the sofa bed, thinking it was already made up, but it wasn't. There was no spare sheets or pillows in the room and I had to call up and get them to bring me linen. The employee that worked there that delivered my sheets and pillow name was victor and he even made the sofa bed for me which was I thought was nice, I also ordered room service, the food wasn't bad, portion size of the food was ok, the 3 cheese toasty was a bit disappointing, it could of been more cheesier considering it was meant to have 3 cheeses on the toasty and I found the bread a little bit too thick. The chicken pasta was very good.

Yelp
The general manager was very nice, cheerful and helpful, made me feel welcomed, Wasn't the biggest fan of the industrial design, since I am more of a traditionalist in my hotel rooms, the room was clean and the bed comfortable and a converter was provided and welcomed, what I don't agree with and seems all the 4 and 5 star hotels really JACK their room rates on the nites before the cruise which seems a little unfair so not only Pier One does this but it seems a bit unscrupulous to do so, but I checked hotel rates DAILY and am a prior reservations agent so i know about capacity controls but the hotel is clean and VERY centrally located, the only suggestion I have is WATCH YOUR FOOD outside the gulls will get it, lol and check for deals on the nites before your cruise so that you don't pay double for a room which the very next nite will go WAY DOWN to a more reasonable rate

Yelp
We have stayed with the Pier One twice, once when it was the Sebel when had a bad experience however we gave them a second chance. The Walsh Bay suite was much larger than Waterside King Room we booked last time. The suite had a separate living area with a lounge and small dinning table and 2 flat screen TV's, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. The bed was fairly big and comfortable! Both rooms had a view over the Harbour. There was a bottle of sparkling wine, 2 small boxes of chocolates, a fruit plate and a cute little teddy waiting for us in our room when we arrived! I'm glad that the hotel had taken the time to check out our blog and look at the things we liked; it made it much more personalized. The bathroom in the Walsh Bay Suite was huge. With "his and her" separate basins, there was a large shower and a large, deep spa bath. There were also 2 sets of toiletries on the bath as well as on one on the sink. The worst thing about this room and the previous room was the plumbing; this hotel has "airline toilets" that flush very loudly. The hotel does their best to reduce the noise level of the toilets and ensures they aren't too close to the bed as to not disturb someone sleeping. Housekeeping were very friendly and the room was immaculate however something that irritated us last time and hasn't changed, was that housekeeping didn't service the in-house guest rooms until after 2pm. After working in hotels for many years I understand that getting rooms ready by 2pm for new guests is top priority but looking after your in-house guests is just as important, servicing an in-house guests room is very quick, make the bed and tidy the bathroom (fill up the amenities). Maybe a suggestion would be that they trial having 1 or 2 staff members per floor servicing in-house guests rooms. Previous stay: Housekeeping would knock twice (knock knock) and then enter the room. They did not wait for anyone to answer the door or even give enough time to get off the seat. We ordered room service when we got in, the staff member was initially confused as he repeated the kitchen was closed and no room service could be provided however another staff member took over the phone call and advised that he was a new staff member and took our order. Our room service arrived very quickly. The service was great the staff member was very pleasant and helpful. We had Buffet Breakfast both mornings, the buffet was great, there was a lot to choose from, all things sweet and savory, they even had little bottles of HP (My absolute favourite!!) and little bottles of Tabasco. The only little annoying thing about the buffet was the constant long line of people lining up for self-service coffees. The industrial Nespresso pod machines were very cool but as well as the line, the machines constantly ran out of water and fresh milk and requests to have these filled were ignored by passing staff members. Previous stay: We ordered room service the evening we arrived and called to follow up after 20-30mins of not receiving anything, 5 minutes later they called back to ask if we still wanted our order! It arrived 20mins later (total of 40-50mins wait for a bowl of chips and a bowl of wedges). The next morning we ordered room service for breakfast, I opened the door I had a bill from the previous night shoved into my face, the staff member didn't say hello or good morning instead she just said "you didn't pay your bill last night" and then when I opened the door wider for her to bring the tray in, she gave me a disgusted look and said "oh you want ME to bring it in". The location of this hotel is Fantastic, it's on the other side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, away form the Opera house but a very easy walk to Circular Quay (5mins) and even Darling Harbour (about 15mins away). I loved this location because you are very close to some great views and great restaurants but you aren't in the "hustle and Bustle", it's much quieter. The views from most of the rooms and the restaurant overlook the Harbour; it's a great place to sit, relax and have a drink and watch all the boats full of people go past.. We has the same issues with the TV as we did with our previous stay, the writing on the TV was always blurred and at times the remote in the bedroom didn't work very well. No direction in the guest compendium about the cost of internet until we have logged on. As per usual in Australia the internet chargers were fairly high. We also asked if it was possible to have 2 people using the room's wifi at one time and we were told yes of course, which we soon found out was incorrect. No umbrellas were ever available in the room or at concierge, it is difficult to travel with one. We would definitely stay there again, I'm pleased to see changes have been made and staff are acting in a more professional manner. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and the food was very nice.

Yelp
The service at this hotel was beyond exceptional. From the front desk staff to the wait staff at breakfast to the concierge. We would return here in a heartbeat just for the wonderful staff!

Yelp
I enjoyed this location, but had an unfortunate incident with an employee. I am an American from New York and I was visiting Australia for the first time with my wife. I have lived in several large cities around the globe. I've dined and visited some very well known restaurants and bars. I preface my comment with that statement because I can identify poor security staff within seconds. Before working as a lawyer and diplomat (the job that has afforded me the ability to travel and live internationally), I also worked as a security guard in my early twenties. Therefore, my review is based on the security working at Pier One. In early October 2019 I noticed there was a salsa night at Pier One. My wife and I enjoy and often frequent salsa bars in New York and Latin-America. When I arrived, the young man working the security eyed my passport and questioned me if I was really from the U.S. Why in God's name would my wife and I have fake U.S. passports in Australia? Does that even make sense? Interestingly, the security guard wasn't even a white male. He was an Australian of Middle-Eastern heritage. I'm only pointing that out because I found his particular questioning of my ethnicity to be very unprofessional. Just absurd, really. Then later on in the evening, when my wife stepped away to use the restroom, the same man came up to me while I was waiting for my wife at the bar and asked me if I had a problem. He had short cropped hair and was around 6'1 and 180 lbs (certainly smaller than a bouncer at a club in New York). I didn't even know he was in the room until he creeped up behind me like some sort of phantom. I told him I was waiting for my wife and had only consumed ONE beer so clearly I was fine. He then said something which I honestly didn't understand, and I proceeded to ask him if he had some sort of issue with me waiting for my spouse. He then grabbed a stitched-on badge (on his left or right hand chest pocket or side of his arm, don't remember for sure) with his hand and brandished it front of my face. My wife noticed trouble was brewing and we decided to leave. I am not Australian and I had no idea what he was showing off or what the badge meant, but it almost seemed like some sort of odd threat. It could have been a police badge or a crossing guard sticker, I wouldn't know the difference. I'm just a tourist waiting for my wife at a bar on the Sydney Pier. My guess is he thought I was some sort of malevolent character but he couldn't have been more mistaken. I work in national security and actually dedicate my life to protecting my country's citizens, and those of our allies, from individuals willing to harm or defraud our governments. I'm not sure why the security guard targeted me for that sort of harassment, but he had certainly barked up the wrong tree. Otherwise, I enjoyed this location and it had a lovely view. Please train your security to better treat guests.

Yelp
Nice rooms, nice location. I would have given more stars if the attendant wasn't a bit rude or unhelpful on check out. I would stay elsewhere but if you find a deal and don't care about the long walk to the CBD then go for it.

Yelp
Smaller boutique hotel, wonderful breakfast buffet (english breakfast, waffles, fresh bread and fruit, coffee), great location next to the bridge. Walkable to opera house, darling harbor and botanic gardens. Raven at the front desk and Harmeet the concierge were friendly and helpful. They really helped to make this vacation an excellent one. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This small boutique hotel is set in the perfect location adjacent to the Harbour Bridge. The staff is tremendous and makes the stay exceptional.

Yelp
Incredible stay. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating. Small boutique hotel with nice rustic but modern touches in lobby. Rooms felt updated and I had very roomy bathroom. Complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and glass of champagne was nice touch after long day of visiting the sites. The location just under the Harbor Bridge was perfect with only a short walk to Circular Quay. The views of the Harbor, Luna Park, the bridge and Opera House were spectacular. The night manager gave us great insight into the area and a good cappuccino that was badly needed at 5:30 am. We went to one of the sites he suggested that we never heard of and the teenage kids loved it. It was called Featherdale Wildlife Park. He also let up the blinds in the ball room for fantastic sunrise on the harbor since it was a little chilly when we visited. Felt like a private viewing. We went to a rooftop Hotel(bar) he suggested just up the street for great night view of the Opera House and a cold beer. Another manager there set us up for a great Italian dinner on really short notice located on Circular Quay before we headed to a play at the Opera House for my daughters birthday. Free wifi for Marriott members nice considering we had teenagers with us. Gym was marginal but I did enough walking to nix the need on that. My only complaint was that room service did not pick up meals in the hallway as early as they should have. I like fish and chips, just not someone else's that have been left out the night before. Would definitely stay again.

Patty O.

Yelp
The hotel was great and the staff was amazing. We had a wonderful room facing the water. It is within walking distance to the Opera House and the Circular Quay. Breakfast was good too.

Yelp
Loved the room and service staff- would stay here again when I return to Sydney- location and views can't be beat
