Pierre Sang on Gambey

"This is Pierre Sang's second restaurant, the first being in nearby Oberkampf. Both locations are run with the same ethos and have the same concept. The famous chef's commitment to quality ingredients is also present and correct. Care and creativity go into turning produce into innovative, cosmopolitan dishes, with the occasional nod to Korea. The originality does not stop at the food: diners are invited to guess what they have just eaten! An inviting setting in which to indulge in a moment of sharing." - Michelin Inspector

Dining at Pierre Sang was nothing short of exceptional. The 6-course menu was a culinary journey that delighted the senses from start to finish. Each dish was thoughtfully crafted, showcasing creative flavor combinations and impeccable attention to detail. The wine pairing elevated the experience even further. The selections were perfectly matched to the courses, enhancing each bite without overpowering it. The sommelier’s expertise was evident—he knew his wines inside out and was passionate about sharing his knowledge. The staff’s warm and welcoming demeanor created a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. Their attentiveness and genuine enthusiasm for the menu added to the overall charm of the evening. Considering the level of quality, the price was surprisingly affordable, making the price-to-quality ratio one of the best I’ve encountered in Paris. Pierre Sang is a must-visit for food and wine lovers alike—an unforgettable gastronomic experience that I can’t recommend highly enough! Foid 55€ / wine pairing 70€

It was a fun time (Cloak and Dagger style) and a bit of an adventure going to the Loft. After making our way through a dark (safe!) alley and up a few flights of stairs to the Loft, we enjoyed a very moderately priced six course surprise, surprise tasting menu. Service was polite and professional and we enjoyed the fresh cuisine and the concept. We recommend it! 🕵🏼‍♂️😎💪🏼😂🍻🥃🙏🏼

We booked the cours de cuisine au marche as a Valentines Day gift from my boyfriend. It was an amazing experience led by a chef of the restaurant, Elliot. We were a group of three and first visited the nearby food market before preparing a meal together in the private restaurant. Elliot welcomed our ideas for what to make and what we wanted to learn and was fun and easygoing. After tasting what we prepared, we also had the 6 course tasting lunch in the main restaurant (included as part of the experience). It was delightful and the staff were very welcoming and informative. I really recommend and would do it again!

Wow. What a perfect dinner in a small and charming restaurant. Every course was delicious and interesting. All the staff were incredibly warm and friendly and I love how they encouraged you to guess the ingredients you were having in each dish. Great value as far as fine dining goes. A very fun and tasty meal all around. This is a true hidden gem in Paris.

Google
Foods were above average, very creative, and detailed in it's making. Staff were friendly and attentive. I am not quite use to the tight space but I guessed this is what it is like in many other restaurants in Paris. it's crowded but not noisy.

Google
Amazing! Highly recommend. Our waiter was called Alex - fantastic customer service, and very generous with the digestives! Fun concept, guessing the ingredients after every course.

Google
The dish were interesting and fun! Guessing the ingredients was unique and interesting, which takes a lot of effort and time from the servers. Some dishes were ok but some dishes were creative and delicious. My fav was the basil sorbet with nectar and clam with beans. I felt the price you pay for the course menu and service is unbeatable. I recommended to my friends who enjoyed their time there. I would come back when I am back in Paris next time. Also the location could be confusing because there are two similar restaurants side by side. I wish they had told me the original restaurant which I made reservation is 10 sec walk from this one.

Google
The place's concept is a set-menu fusion French-Korean, but with a twist: you don't know what you'll be served until it arrives. Part of the experience too, is after each one of the 6 platters is served, a waiter will try to get you to guess all the ingredients of the plate. It is a fun and adventurous way of trying types of food that you would not usually order. Those with dietary restrictions, can tell the waiter at the beginning of the meal of their concerns and alternatives will be provided to them. Overall it's a fun concept and great food, coupled with an extensive wine list and very friendly staff.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. You eat the food, then guess what it is, 55 euros for 5 course menu, wine paring for 70 euros. The wine pairing really makes the food shine. I think guessing what you're eating really makes you pay attention to what you're eating. often times they come out and tell you a whole list of ingredients and you forget half of them already before you eat it. This way, you pay attention to what you're eating, we didn't get all the ingredients right, but it was fun to try and guess. there were a lot of surprises which made it really cool.

Yelp
Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Pierre Sang is a Creative restaurant located in Oberkampf featured in the Michelin guide. Made a reservation online and my seat was ready upon arrival. There are kitchen counter seats with a view of the kitchen. Pierre Sang offers a tasting menu only at 54€ featuring 6 courses, taking ~2+ hours. Courses are described after they have been eaten, a unique concept. Courses were simple, using very fresh ingredients. The butter that came with the bread was quite tasty. The meal featured 2 appetizers, 2 mains, a cheese course, along with a dessert. The appetizers were a beets along with an egg course. The fish course was very light with the fish grilled to perfection and topped with some tasty sauce. The chicken entree features a couple pieces of chicken thighs which were mostly cooked. I wasn't a fan of the cheese course. The dessert was also pretty simple. Both Metro and bus stops are nearby!

Yelp
Solid bites on the smaller side, but packed with flavor and very enjoyable! Great wines to make and a perfect date night spot!! Instagram What did the scallop say to the shrimp? "Let's shell-abrate!" Freestyle Menu #PierreSangOnGamby The semi-gastronomic. Everyone can thus distinguish the dishes being simmered behind the stove in the kitchen open to the room. Paris

Yelp
This branch of the Pierre Sang empire is designed for fun. We sat at the table facing the kitchen and were entertained by a bevy of cooks and servers. They were all engaging and charming. While the space is tiny, we never felt claustrophobic or restrained. I loved my rum cocktails, in particular when made with this delicious Peruvian rum. PS on Gambey is about imbibing in excess. Unfortunately, despite our good time, the food wasn't fantastic. Nothing we ate was memorable, and the Korean flavorings we yearned for, were missing. I know Chef Sang can cook because his now closed Signature restaurant was a fantastic culinary experience. I expected a repeat performance at Gambey. Alas, it wasn't to be.

Yelp
My friend and I were visiting Paris and really wanted to try something fun and interesting, and we read really good reviews of this place. Our experience was amazing! The staff here was so friendly and accommodating, and they sounded super enthusiastic and passionate about the dishes. It got me and my friend really into the experience as well :) The dishes themselves were also amazing, and as Koreans + Korean-Americans we appreciated the Korean twist the dishes had. This is somewhere I would definitely return to and recommend to friends and family!

Yelp
We enjoyed the Korean/French tasting menu that was full of surprises. Each tasting was presented with no description leaving us to guess while eating. We were told about ingredients after we finished each dish. Service was friendly. Wine pairings were spectacular. Pricy, but it wasn't just a meal, it was an experience. Recommend!

Yelp
Literally the BEST meal we had during our trip to Paris! My husband and I have a list of allergies and they were able to circumvent those and come up with a multi-course menu that was amazing. Definitely recommend - everything from the food to drinks to the service were top notch. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat while in Paris.

Yelp
Fun dinner at Pierre Sang on Gambey. Note, there are two locations. We wanted the more intimate experience. We sat at the chef's table and enjoyed watching the team in action. Pierre Sang was a finalist on French Top Chef and is listed on Michelin plate. My husband made reservations weeks before our holiday to Paris. He was pretty proud of himself for planning this surprise. It was a fun dinner because they do not give you a menu. You do not know the ingredients or dish coming your way. The food is served and you guess all the ingredients, herbs, sauces etc. I guess fun for foodies and maybe not for some. We thought the price point was a steal for a 5 course Michelin dinner. Husband liked the wines paired a lot. The chef was super accommodating to my pregnancy and checked on me every dish. We especially enjoyed the fish course and the beautiful fig dessert.

Yelp
Having eaten at L'Arpege, Alleno, and Septime just days before, we found Pierre Sang to be refreshing and actually more creative! We had the blind tasting menu for lunch, and let me tell you, this is truly blind and truly Asian fusion! Normally, even if you won't know what the menu beholds until they bring the next course, the servers will quickly explain what you're eating before you eat it. Here, they don't tell you until AFTER you've already finished the plate and it's in your stomach, so this is definitely for the adventurous foodie :) On top of that, they make you guess all the ingredients, which after eating at over 30 Michelin restaurants and half of the World's 50 Best restaurants, we've never encountered before so kudos to Pierre Sang for being the first to make dining an immersive experience! Onto the food itself. Such high quality ingredients!! Everything is sourced from somewhere impressive and carefully selected. They serve you delicious medium rare pork which would normally horrify someone but here they are so confident that their pork is of quality since they know exactly where it came from, so there's no danger of it making anyone sick! He really gives a lot of attention and thought into where he gets his stuff. And like I said, this is Asian fusion. Pierre Sang manages to beautifully blend Korean and Japanese ingredients with European ones and the umami touch is much welcomed for us, because personally I find European food too bland for my palette. Some of the ingredients are really unique, rare and unheard of as well, which made me feel like I was eating haute couture food - so suitable for Pah-ree! I like that he used unusual ingredients instead of truffle like everyone else. And though PS himself only came out to say "Bienvenue!" and then literally disappeared back into the kitchen, we definitely appreciated that he took the time to greet us at all. Well worth the gastronomic experience. Make a reservation! TIP: Pierre Sang has 3 locations all on the same street which is very confusing. This one doesn't even have a noticeable sign out front so look for a GREY facade with no sign above.

Yelp
Excellent surprise 6-course menu for 49EUR in a lively, intimate setting - we were also able to meet Chef Sang himself during the course of dinner, which stretched over two hours, and paired nicely with recommended wines. Nice use of delicate Asian influences to balance overly heavy French flavors. The only letdown (if you can call it that), were some of the alterations to a few of the dishes due to pregnancy dietary restrictions - some substitute flavors didn't always work together but my partner's set, served as intended, was near flawless. Reservations recommended, if you are coming from overseas, you can do so on The Fork. Thanks Jean and Margot for a lovely night!

Yelp
Fun, yet stressful, dinner. The concept (or conceit) is that they do not tell you what you're eating beforehand, and you're supposed to guess after. For someone who hates to be wrong (not me, of course) this may be a ding. For other people, it's fine. We had a 9:30 reservation (Parisians eat late!) for the counter. I love sitting at the kitchen counter when it's available to see how chefs prepare the food. There's only one option, a 50 euro 6-course meal. Veritable bargain for the amount and quality of food you get. The dishes showed an interesting fusion of French and Korean cuisines; one of my favorites was a sort of deconstructed bibimbap. One star taken away because service was unprofessional, even for a more casual place. I get the feeling this restaurant was shooting for a Momofuku vibe, but the servers were rude and slightly condescending. Also seemed like a mess as we got served by about 3-4 different people (and it was only a 6 course meal....). At one point I asked our server (for that course) what the dish they were preparing behind the counter was and he said "that's not for you". They also got some of the ingredients wrong in the post-course discussion, which is frustrating.

Yelp
Not one thIng wrong with this hidden gem. Not in the most popular part of town other than being next to the now closed Anthony Bourdain haunt. The small restaurant can only hit about 30 people per seating. I'm not sure they even have a second seating. The menu doesn't exist. They bring you dishes and lightheartedly quiz you after to see if you were on target. Their English is fantastic and the Sommelier is more than trustworthy. From the start to the dijusb the culinary adventure was worth the value ten fold. With a great prefix price you don't have to break the bank to try food french food in Paris.

Yelp
My experience here totally blew my mind. Haven't had a meal like this since I don't know when. First, some context. I was summoned to meet some colleagues at Pierre Sang at 18h30 sharp to get a head start on the line. My colleagues visiting Paris from SF had already been there like 4 times in three days and were obsessed. They even knew the entire staff by first name and felt totally at home. When chef Pierre walked by and spotted us all he gave us a super friendly welcome and told us to check out his other restaurant just down the block to change things up just a little bit. Located on a side street off of Oberkampf, with no sign on the door and a dark, cozy, lighting inside, On Gambey is definitely a hidden hotspot so much so that it wasn't even on Yelp yet! After settling into our cozy table alongside the fab wine wall and getting our groove on to the nice soft electro tunes, we were told that we were to embark on a 6-couse tasting menu (49E) full of surprises and were asked whether we had any dietary restrictions. From there we were dotted on and treated to an unbelievable culinary adventure that mixed delicacies, techniques and ingredients from Korea to Auverge, France. You see Pierre Sang is Korean but was adopted and grew up in Auverge, and his food is an edible reflection of his multi-ethnic identity. In Pierre's world, traditional French ingredients and techniques flirt with Korean-influenced flavors, spices and sauces, creating a super unique culinary signature that's 100% Pierre. There were so many exceptional bites taken during the meal, but my favorites involved his preparation of fish, specifically the filet of makerel served over a bed of lentils along with a super tart lemon reduction infused with Korean spicies, and a whole sea bass cooked in a sea-salt crust that the chef filleted for us at the table (see video on mobile!). Beyond the fabulousness of the food, what really blew my mind was the attentive, happy, accessible staff that Pierre has working for him. Everyone who came by our table, especially the sommelier, an adorable Italian, was so warm and interactive. It really made you feel like you were having this experience with them, like we were part of the Pierre Sang family of professionals and friends. Pierre really role modeled this behavior by coming over to everyone's table and chilling and chatting for a while. We had him with us for a good 10 minutes and it was so fun! This is a remarkable address that's as delicious and unusual as it is fun and festive. Run, don't walk!

Yelp
we came here on a friend's recommendation and really glad that we did! Pierre Sang on Gambey is recently opened and luckily we walked in without a reservation and were seated without a problem. we even got 2 seats at the bar which i think is definitely the best place to sit so you can see the chefs hard at work. Chef Sang wasn't at the restaurant on the night we were there unfortunately but we still loved our meal! i think its 6 courses for 49 Euro and we added the complete wine pairing which probably doubled the price, but in the end we were on vacation and we thought it was worth it haha i have to say that actually the desserts fell a bit short for me since they consisted mostly of cheese and fruit - not exactly my favorites...but all the courses before that were amazing! we had a cold noodle dish with asian flavors, a cooked mackerel, some sort of kimchi and wonton dish, a beef dish. i cant remember the exact details of everything but i do know that they were all delicious. loved the influence of asian flavors in each of the courses. what i wasnt used to though was that we would eat our dish and then after we're done, our server would explain it to us. totally not what im used to but i kinda liked that concept since i had no preconceived notions of taste before i bit into something or if i knew i was eating something weird, i wouldnt have a mental block of not wanting to try it haha. and actually service the entire night was outstanding! we dont speak french but the staff was more than fluent with their English skills haha. maybe they'll even give you some extra potato chips if you ask nicely ;) our meal i think came out to be like $250ish with food, wine, and service so while it's not a cheap meal, i've come to realize that food doesnt exactly come cheap in Paris anyway so for that price and for the quality of the meal, i'd say that it was worth the splurge. besides if you forego the wine, then a 6-course gourmet meal at 49 euro is a steal!

Yelp
I love the original restaurant on the corner, but this location feels much warmer and more conducive to dinner with friends around one table. The other location has a narrow set-up, whereas the new place has a room you can reserve upstairs if you have a large group, and generous wooden tables. If you want to watch the chefs at work, you can still sit at the bar. I always go for dinner, for six courses at 49 euros. It's a splurge, but worth every centième. Each dish is actually bigger than you would expect of a tasting menu, too. Pierre Sang is always coming up with surprising and delightful dishes, with consistent balance of French and Korean flavors. As he runs back and forth between the two restaurants, the chefs and sous chefs execute his creations perfectly. The rest of the staff clearly take pride in the business too, and make every effort to optimize your experience.

Yelp
This was my first time to Pierre Sang's "new" restaurant, and it was pretty great. I came for Sunday lunch with my mom and sister (who is not the most adventurous eater, and wasn't happy with us when we explained the "guess what you just ate" concept here). We were lucky to snag three seats in a row along the bar so could watch the chefs do their thing. We started with a ceviche of maigre on a bed of quinoa with radishes, pickled onion, and a green (bean?) purée. This was the perfect summer dish, as it was super fresh, light and citrusy (and my sister actually finished before either me or my mom...despite her earlier protests to being here). We moved onto a main course of tiny, perfectly cooked pieces of red mullet for the non-meat eaters, and a generous piece of beef for my mom, served with mashed potatoes, amazing veggies (shiitake and green beans and peppers), purple potato chips, and arugula. I could eat those shiitakes and mash every day, they were so amazing...also guess who cleaned her plate the fastest yet again this time (little sister was begrudgingly loving it). Last was dessert where we had an olive oil and lemon based desert with limoncello ice, baby meringues, and fresh watermelon. Again, a perfect dessert for a hot day. For 25 euros this menu is a steal. Also the staff is great- super friendly and answered all the questions we had. We are coming back next week for dinner and I can't wait to see what we'll have (we heard the menu for this week will be unreal, so you should go try it out).

Yelp
This was by far the best meal I've had in my life. Each course was expertly presented and was not what you'd expect but was delicious. I loved the concept of not having a menu and guessing what was in each course. After the appetizer, I was hooked. I recommend this to anyone in Paris.

Yelp
Having been several times to Pierre Sang's other location (a few doors down), I wanted to try his newest opening. We booked for the 19h seating as we planned to go for cocktails after dinner. We ended up leaving at 21h45 to make our way to the cocktail bar. There is no menu; it is a 6 course surprise tasting menu for 49€, which changes daily. The food is "neo bistrot" with an Asian influence on the ingredients used, at times, quite subtle. Fun to test your palate and guess the ingredients, which the waiter will explain to you at the end of each dish. Coté wine list: a large choice but not much on the lower spectrum. We opted for a 2011 Chateau de Fuisse, which was naturally delicious but probably triple cost value (62€). I would like to see more wines at the 30/40€ benchmark. We were seated at the bar initially but I hate sitting on stools with no back support. I get this is a "cool, NY style" decor but I don't want to spend a 2.5 hr special occasion dinner hunched on a bar stool. Just me personally. So I requested to move to another table where they had bar stools with a back edge. The food was delicious, a few interesting decouvertes like "whiskey caviar" and a Korean fish that I've since forgotten the name! The only issue I have and it's becoming a theme now across all new restaurants is lack of cooking. Some elements would be that much better if they had been slightly cooked rather than always raw. Overall, the dinner was lovely, surprisingly more attentive in service I think than his other location, with the sommelier coming to explain wines and refill throughout the night. A great atmosphere in the bar and we never felt rushed to leave which you worry about when places have two seatings.

Yelp
This review is mostly for the cooking with the chef experience. My Amateur Chef training continues in Paris the fantastic chef @wallantime of @pierre_sang Pierre is a #michelinstar chef who owns three Korean French Fusion restaurants in Paris where you can enjoy a unique open kitchen 5 course (Secret menu) bar dining experience for only 35€. They don't disclose the ingredients beforehand. After you try, you guess and then tell you. My day began visiting a local farmers market to select the freshest ingredients of my choosing: I chose Scallop in the shell, whole Mackerel, leaks, fennel, zucchini, shallots, onions, and yellow beats. We made Zucchini purée, fresh yellow beat ribbons, scallop (remains) Au Jus with leak, fennel, onions and Amaretto, Buerre Blanc sauce with shallots, pan roasted Scallops and Mackerel. Once finished we both called upon our creative abilities to come up with our best plating.

Yelp
Excellent food. Perfect service. I took my wife there for an anniversary and we were delighted by the food. I would recommend on Gambey for special occasions and the one on Oberkampf for a more chilled experience. Love discovering every dish - it's like a treasure hunt :-) Will go again!

Yelp
This was one of the best evenings I've ever experienced. Their 6-scourse concept is a cool approach, even though you don't find out for sure what you've eaten until after each course. Several different staff members visited us to discuss what we had and to answer questions about the just-completed course. The wine pairings were spectacular. I like to sip first, then try the course, and in a couple of cases, it was stunning to see how appropriate the wine was after tasting the dish, compared to just taking the first sip. They offer some reservations and retain some tables for those willing to wait in line for a 7PM or 9:30PM seating. If you take the latter time, you might start just a little late, but I think it's worth waiting for. The menu changes every couple of weeks, so there's not much point in discussing the particulars except to say that everything was wonderful. At the end, Pierre came by and asked us about our experience (though I guess he wasn't actually working tonight), as had the staff after each course, and I think he could see how much we appreciated what a success his effort has been. We must get back here as often as budget allows.

Belkis W.

Yelp
It's a cool place, and I liked the concept of no information on your dish until after you have eaten it, so you really concentrate on the different flavours. It started out very strong, with a blini with fish eggs, dill, and lemon cream, which was a lovely first bite. Then a delicious chestnut soup. Then a simple, perfectly cooked white fish with pickles and dried apples, which was lovely in its simplicity. Then a chicken dish that was good, but with too much chicken and not much else going on, and did not do justice to the earlier part of the meal. The cheese course was one big lump of a nice creamy cheese, perhaps two or three small pieces would be nice. Finally dessert was a deconstructed apple pie which was ok, but tasted burnt and unexciting. Overall it was a strange meal, the first half was stunning, and the second half was very unimpressive.

Moses L.

Yelp
Great restaurant. It is a small place but the food there was delicious. It's definitely on the pricier side of things but as a last meal in Paris it is definitely worth it.
