On the Grid : Piers Park

"If you've seen a movie of Boston in the past ten years, most likely, you've seen this park. Built as an environmental offset of Logan Airport for neighborhood residents, Piers Park offers views of downtown Boston and the harbor, playgrounds for children, table and picnic areas, an outdoor fitness area and concert pit. During the summer, it hosts free concerts provided by groups such as Zumix, Boston’s Landmarks Orchestra, and others. The park also houses the Piers Park Sailing Center, which offers sailing lessons, rentals, and memberships, along with their adaptive sailing programming aimed at persons with physical and cognitive disabilities. Roller blading, cycling, and ball playing are not allowed in the park." - Nick DiStefano

Peaceful views, crisp air, and a clear look at the Boston skyline from across the harbor. You can feel the calm as the sailboats drift by — one of those spots that reminds you how simple beauty can be. Piers Park really is one of Boston’s hidden gems. Clean, quiet, and full of thoughtful detail — from the brick walkways to the history boards that tell the story of the harbor’s past. 🎥 Captured a few clips to remember the view — part of my Quiet Wyns collection. #QuietWyns #CambridgeStamped #HiddenGem #BostonViews #WynterViewStyle

This is undoubtedly the best spot to capture a breathtaking sunset photograph. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Boston skyline. The area is clean and well-maintained, and the occasional patrols by the police add to the sense of safety.

Google
Piers Park is a hidden gem that offers stunningly beautiful views of Boston. The park is gorgeous and provides an outstanding observatory experience for those seeking natural beauty or spectacular skylines.

Google
It's very nice, spacious park at East Boston, harbourside view is so nice. Plenty of greenery with green carpetted grass....I enjoyed a lot.

Google
Great park to stop by to get views of the Boston skyline, the harbor, and the sunset. It does get busy around sunset, as when i went, both lots were full, so you may have to utilize street parking.

Melissa

Google
Beautiful view of the pier, nice little park to hang out at and walk or exercise and even have a little picnic.

Lovely park to relax and unwind. It has 2 parking lots with washrooms as well. It is well maintained and has a beautiful view of the harbour. The sunset view is amazing. Will be one of our favorite spot for evening stroll.

Yelp
What a beautiful park! I walk through everyday and always see people having photoshoots, birthday parties, baby showers, I've seen a few people get engaged here, and I've even witnessed one wedding happen here. Not sure what permitting (if any) is required for any of that but, that's how beautiful of a park this is! I've seen exercise classes here (yoga and such) but, there is also an exercise area. This park is how you access piers park sailing center. The park has a small parking lot as well. There's a children's playground area and a public restroom. There are no dogs or bicycles allowed. The park is always monitored by a police officer in the building outside the children's playground/ where the restrooms are located. I've seen some live bands perform here and they did fireworks for Labor Day!
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
This is one of the nicest parks in East Boston and has a beautiful view of downtown Boston and the harbor. Plenty of benches to sit and relax. It's a very well-maintained park and you hardly ever see any litter. I often go through part of the park while running. Given the playground next to the street, the park is a popular spot for families and young kids. One of my favorite times to go is early morning during the summer when it's peaceful and not too hot out.

Steven P.

Yelp
The workers there work hard to clean, maintain and service the park. People need to appreciate what they do!

Yelp
Great view of the city, especially at night. Peaceful and beautiful place to watch the sunset!!

Yelp
Piers park is my most favorite place in all of Boston and is the perfect place to retreat to after all day in the house due to quarantine. There is a trail not far that I could walk through from my apartment to get to piers park. Never really crowded and always good vibes. My last time there I captured the most perfect picture of the skyline. A must

Yelp
Whenever I want to see the night scenic views of Boston, this is the place to go to. It's quiet, and close by.

Yelp
Piers Park is one of my favorite spots in Boston! The park is always very clean and well kept, and the views of the city are amazing. This is a really great park to picnic and hang out on a sunny day. There are a few small tables (seat 2-4 people) and benches near the pier that you can hang out on and take in the views. It should be noted that they do NOT allow dogs or animals at this park.
google avatar

Yelp
Hmm, let me see... Lots of soft grass for picnics, lying out in the sun, play, etc... [Check] Gorgeous views of the waterfront and skyline. [Check] Benches and tables [Check] Well-kept and clean [Check] Trees for shade [Check] Fitness playground [Check] Kiddie playground [Check] Splash fountains for cooling off [Check] Parking [Check] Never crowded [Check] Only negatives I can think of is Piers Park being so far off in Eastie and that no dogs are allowed in the park, but these issues are so minimal when compared to how beautiful this park and its views are! Also, KO Pies at the Shipyard is just around the corner! Yes, 5 stars it is.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Here's the problem with going to most waterfront parks in Boston: None of them actually offer a decent view of Boston. It's true. Think about it. The Esplanade affords a nice view of MIT, the waterfront gives you a glimpse at the airport, and looking from East Cambridge doesn't count, because, well, it's not in Boston. Piers Park, however, technically IS in Boston, and gives you not only a fantastic view of the downtown skyline, but also a beautiful running trail; big, wide-open green spaces for picnics or other assorted flopping, and sounds and smells of the water you really can't get anywhere else. Recommendation: Get to Maverick, get yourself a torta, plant yourself squarely in Piers Park and go to town while you stare at... well, town.

Yelp
This is the best park in all of Boston. Best view, yes.. Best landscaping, yes..Best park to chill out on a sunny day..yes. I love going there. You're in your own little retreat as you look at all the skyscrapers and think of how people are cranking it at work on a beautiful day. I would say the park is pretty large, definitely not tiny. There is a long brick path that leads to a gazebo pier. Perfect for watching a sunset. Tons of picnic tables, a huge playground for kids with water features, a sunken band stand area for performances, a workout stretch area with picture boards, and tons of soft plush grass to spread out. The Boston police have an office on the grounds so there is no BS going on. You'll regularly see them walking around the grounds. They also have on site bathrooms connected to the police office. In the summer the ice cream truck is out there all day. The sailing school offers discounts to residents. Get your picnic basket ready! Just a note, no dogs or bikes allowed!
google avatar

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE Piers park. My two children were in the summer sailing program here and they absolutely loved it. Such a great opportunity for local kids to learn how to sail for FREE !!!

Yelp
I moved to East Boston about a year ago, I've heard of this park but I didn't know it was such a beautiful hidden gem. Wow... Just Wow... My boyfriend and I were working out outside we were walking a trail and came upon the park. He said let's walk through here and I obliged. It was a BEAUTY. Clean and well maintained. There were couples and families just sitting on the pier and enjoying the beautiful summer night. The postcard worthy views are stunning. It's the perfect park for a little picnic. We actually saw a couple having a pizza dinner on one of the picnic benches. The grass is so well maintained you could bring a blanket and maybe fall asleep under the stars ;-). I'm already planning my picnic date. I can't wait :-)
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
This is a perfect place to picnic, read, gently stroll, or take in some of the most spectacular views of the city's skyline. It has lush greenery, benches, greenspace, and a sweet gazebo-like monument if you want to relax in the shade. The whole place is very clean for a public park, too. Psa no dogs allowed though. A hidden gem.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Wow, I can't believe no one has reviewed Piers Park yet! I love this place. The park is HUGE, gorgeous, extremely well maintained, and has amazing views of the Boston skyline. If you need a break from the hustle & bustle of city life, this is THE place to go. It's a great place for a picnic (though leave your portable BBQ at home) or to go sightseeing. RUN, don't walk, to this gem, it's a wonderful place to escape to in these hot summer months. (disclaimer: I used to work for a company that did work on the park).

Jen L.

Yelp
This was a great, quiet, pretty place to end a long day of walking around Boston. It is a beautiful location to watch the sunset behind the city from across the water. Definitely a hidden gem.
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
This is a beautiful park, and well worth the trip out to see the view of Boston! There are other parks within a mile, so you can walk through them to explore East Boston.
google avatar

Yelp
Piers park is a beautiful place. Conveniently located at the end of my block, I get to experience breathtaking skyline views and perfectly manicured lawns every day. The grounds are well maintained with trash cans a plenty. The view of the city is positively lovely. You can't beat it. The cons: there are a ton of skunks running around. Granted they are mostly out at dusk and at night but skunks nonetheless are a pest. However they eat the rats so perhaps I shouldn't complain. There are also no dogs allowed. Good for preventing dog messes but bad for pet owners who want to walk their dog around a beautiful park enjoying lovely views and New England sunsets. And lastly I saw a guy peeing in the flower beds around the corner from the playground once. Gross.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
I got engaged at Piers Park this past January. What a romantic setting. The view is breathtaking! You have the water, the whole city in the background, and a clean beautiful park...perfect. We will be headed back there for engagement photos :)
google avatar

Cahmelan P.

Yelp
Perfect park for walking and sight seeing. Some awesome views of downtown Boston. It was great start to a 10 hour layover.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
Wow! I can't believe this is East Boston! Beautiful views of the city, well maintained grassy area's, new pavilions and playground/work out equipment, and lots of people buzzing around everywhere. Really cute little picnic benches up and down the pier too so make sure to pack a lunch! Great date spot!
google avatar

Casey S.

Yelp
This is by far the nicest park in Boston imho. Right on the harbor, beautifully landscaped, the best views of the city. I walk down almost every day in the summer and it's almost like going to the beach, with all the water around you. It's only a short walk from maverick t station if you don't live nearby. It's a great place to relax or take photos of the city skyline, and there are also concerts and yoga classes here in the summer and fall, and sailing lessons at piers park sailing center.
google avatar

Wendy P.

Yelp
Land-locked Boston suburbanite seeks fantastic views of Boston skyline in pristine, gorgeously landscaped, well maintained park on the water. *Arrive: An hour or so before sunset *Pack: A picnic and a good camera (extra credit for photog's with a tripod for killer night shots!) *Adds to the experience: a significant (or a not-so-significant other!) Le sigh. My last trip here with my boyfriend heralded in the summer like no other. Truly a great find.
google avatar

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Piers Park is awesome. Not only can you take really cool night photos of Boston, but you can see some of the fireworks from the 4th of July from here. We had our wedding rehearsal picnic here and didn't have to pay for anything because our group was small enough. The bathrooms were a little messy, but for a place that was open, free, came with its own tables, beautiful skyline views, AND parking? Worth it.
google avatar

Lydo R.

Yelp
Piers Park is a hidden gem. No where else in the city is there a perfect balance between skyline, green and water and this makes this park the perfect urban park. The entrance is currently hidden behind houses and construction sites and only if you venture far enough on the street, you'll find the gates for the park. You'll know when you have arrived because you'll feel like you have been sucked into a much more beautiful parallel Boston. The park is BIG. Big enough that event if it is full of people and children, it will still seem quiet. It has a few play areas, a huge playground, a workout area, picnic tables and a dreamy water walk. All of this surrounded by the greenest landscape, no exaggeration. The cleaning crews are always going around providing trash bags and picking up full ones and there are restrooms for guests. I had a birthday brunch here once and everyone had a great time. Even some locals were not aware of the existence of this green haven. The only down fall, No dogs allowed with is a good and bad thing. Good because you wont be stepping on dog doodoo while picnicking, wrestling on the grass, of rescuing your toddler from the ground. Bad because good dog owners like myself don't allow for this to happen. However, not having my dogs here does not take away from the experience. Take the time to come by. The train/bus stop is with within walking distance and the park also has a parking lot.
google avatar

Rave M.

Yelp
Minus one star only because the very nice policeman on patrol told us we weren't allowed to throw a baseball around here. Ah well. Other than that, this place is marvelous -- one of the most beautifully manicured and maintained parks in Boston, if you ask me. And it warms my heart to see all the kiddies having fun in the playground or running through the fountain. There is no shortage of picnic benches and shady spots on the grass, and as others have noted, the view of downtown Boston is incredible. Part of me hopes that Piers Park remains a well-kept secret, but the other part hopes the city starts to show this Eastie gem some love!
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
Loves. Loves this park. Incredibly well maintained and with killer views of downtown Boston...you just can't beat it. Yes, it's off the beaten path but so worth it. C'mon lazy Back Bay-ers and Cambridge-ans...get your butts on the blue line, get off at Maverick, stop at 303 Cafe, grab a chai tea latte, walk yourself to Piers Park, and enjoy the sun, breeze, and boats. FYI - no bikes allowed at the park. You can lock them up at the entry but don't even think about riding them down the pier. Believe me...I got chased by a Pier cop the entire way down. Too bad I couldn't hear his yelling thanks to my iPod.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is gorgeous!!!!.... and what I love best is that its a little secret you only know about if you live in eastie!!! Great for kids and Adults!!!!

Yelp
I'm thankful for this park, mainly because of the view and because it's a no dog park which makes it clean. I just moved to this area/Boston because of this park, actually. This is my thinking/dreaming spot and I'm glad that for once I can breathe some fresh air (lived in SF and NYC) and don't have to see and smell dog urine and poop just like on many streets around this area (hate it). Today though, I smelled something familiar when I was walking in the park and saw a dog with their owners. I'm always sure that every now and then there must be some people who don't care about the rule and bring their dogs here anyway. Keep this park dog free people! :( Dogs are adorable but there are plenty other places you can take them to. Everywhere but here, basically. The streets are yucky already with poop everywhere (people here don't pick up after their dogs apparently! so disrespectful). Please don't be selfish and respect the neighborhood, other people, and this well maintained park!! Let's all keep it clean so all of us can enjoy it.
google avatar

H T.

Yelp
No ball playing! No ball playing! That's what the police man said to a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old girl. Nice park, lush grass, great landscaping! BUT NO BALL PLAYING!! Even if we're in an empty spot with no one around. STILL, NO BALL PLAYING! Then where's the fun?? You expect kids to sit still and enjoy the scenery on a summer day? Ok, fine, no ball playing. What about that creepy half-naked old guy over there sun-bathing??? Don't want to ruin the immaculate landscaping... But it is a nice park to go and relax.
google avatar

Karen G.

Yelp
I love love love love love this place. I live in Brighton and at one point during the summer, I came here three times in one week! The grass is super green and soft, unlike the Boston Commons where it's sparse and infested with squirrels (yuck!). Plus, they don't allow pets in the park so you know you won't be laying in a pile of you-know-what. The view is amazing. There's a playground and splash fountain play thing that your kids (or you) can play in. Lots of tables and benches to sit at and on the weekends during the summer, there's a band that plays towards the evening. A ton of families go here and have picnics and it's just a great atmosphere. They don't allow a lot of things though, such as kites, bikes, skateboarding, and a bunch of other things. They have a list on their sign--I think it would've been easier for them to list the things that they do allow! My favorite place to go in Boston (even though it's technically outside of Boston...)!
google avatar

Lindsey J.

Yelp
This is hands down the best park I have found in Boston so far. It is kind of a hidden gem too, which makes it the perfect spot to lunch on a sunny afternoon without encountering a horde of tourists as is the case in Boston Common. When I came here with my boyfriend on a Thursday afternoon we found the walk from the blueline T stop easy and the park crowd to be the right mix of kids, families and those lounging with food or a book. The landscaping is also near perfect, with immaculately kept grounds and picnic tables galore. Mostly, I love that the park is centered around a renovated pier that juts out onto the Boston harbor. The view of the downtown Boston skyline is great; it is definitely worthy of bringing out of towners to see. Best of all, you can lounge around on the pier and watch planes take off from logan airport in the distance. I can't wait to enjoy a few more late summer picnics here!
google avatar

Rene Q.

Yelp
I'll keep it simple: New, clean, well supervised (there were cops on bicycles riding around periodically), plenty of parking, good selection of things to do for the kids (water park, jungle gym, grass, shade), restrooms, some people but not too crowded, fantastic view of the city and water. What more do you want? It's perfect for a summer afternoon with the kids, a nice picnic with friends, or taking some time to enjoy a great view of downtown Boston. I almost didn't want to write a review and keep this place top secret!
google avatar

Mathias G.

Yelp
I don't think I'd be able to write a particularly long review of Piers Park. Just take a look at the photos of downtown Boston and you'll get it. We (my roommate and I) were so astounded by how lovely this park was that we started looking at apartments in Jeffries Point. Though we did not end up moving there, I still come once and a while with friends to show off what, in my opinion, is the best vantage point to view the Boston skyline in the entire city. The park being in Eastie filters out a lot of the crowds. One of my favorite thing about this place is that it never feels touristy. I think because you need to take the blue line to Maverick (which i doubt is in NFT Boston) and then walk a bit, there's this neighborhood-y feeling to Piers Park. It's never crowded; there's a more laid back atmosphere. And on top of all that, it's beautifully maintained and you can watch sailors/ rent a boat from the Piers Park Sailing Center. !

Customer R.

Yelp
Was here to watch Fourth of July fireworks. It could get very crowded. But it is better than trying to get on a bridge at Esplanade. Plus you can enjoy the ocean breeze and fresh air at the piers.
google avatar

Renee D.

Yelp
Yeah this park lives up to the hype. I basically moved to East Boston because of this park and it's proximity to my apartment. It's immaculate all year round, outdoor performances in the summer, good sized sailing club, and safe which is nice considering it's open till about 10pm. If I'm on my way home from a night out it's great to stroll through and see the skyline at night while a police officer sits in an office in the park. Another excellent feature is the gazebo and other structure dedicated to the many cultures of east boston along the pier/wharf. There's benches lining the wharf with trees and importantly for me....it's away from the playground. There's a huge playground near the entrance where there's screaming children everywhere, and an ice cream truck and all that stuff you remember from childhood. So it's great if you want a family day out, or a casual and quiet stroll with friend. All in all, this is a great park. Anyone who comes out to visit me in Boston gets a mandatory tour of the place.
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
It is just ok....nothing special... I got a better view from my patio

Yelp
Hubs and I were pulling our hair out looking for a venue to take wedding pics at that was close to our church and home, and he came upon this little gem. It is absolutely PERFECT! Upon approaching Marginal Street, you would never think that such a nice park lay beyond its boundaries. It is absolutely gorgeous! You can park either on the street, or in their little parking lot, and upon going through the gate, it's like you're in another world! There are lush greens everywhere. The grass is bright and mowed. The picnic tables look inviting. The playground is a child's paradise. There are bathrooms. There are boats everywhere! And, if you walk down the path to the gazebo, you get a view of the Boston skyline that's second to none. We are so happy we got to take our wedding pictures here. Even on a gorgeous and sunny Saturday afternoon, this place was practically dead. There were no other people in sight, and we got to take our pics against the Boston skyline. My only two gripes is that they don't allow dogs or bikes. But, it's understandable I guess... it'd be much harder to keep the park clean and maintained if they did.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
This is a beautiful park, its sad that people never venture out of their shells to explore the "other side of the city" but that means more park for us. The views of the city are unbeatable and the park in general is clean and ...awesome.
google avatar

Jen P.

Yelp
This is probably the only area I've been to in Eastie that isn't laden with trash on the streets or dog poop. Just sayin'. It's actually quite a stunning park and definitely a hidden gem. The views are obviously gorgeous. There is a cool gazebo thing towards the water and great little platform area that has historical facts and really neat little engravings and stories about Boston. There are also plenty of tables and benches to just chill out and relax. It's also far enough from the adjoining playground for the kiddies that has a water splash fountain thing and a bunch of typical playground stuff- swing/slide/jungle gym /etc. There are also fun little events and mini music concerts. AND bonus round: there is almost always an ice cream truck right outside the gates during the summer....YESSS!!! I can get my little rocket 3 colored ice cream popsicle thingie. SCORE. I know a lot of people gripe that dogs aren't allowed in here but I actually like that about this park since it keeps it nice and clean and there are plenty of other places to walk your dogs in the area. Keep it classy, Eastie!
google avatar

Brendan G.

Yelp
Piers Park is unequivocally one of the best parks in Boston. The landscaping is immaculate, well kept paths, structures & benches and of course probably the best view of the city's skyline. Also, since it is a bit off the beaten path in East Boston, I doubt it will ever be inundated hordes of people. Thus, it is an ideal spot to just chill. Concurrently, its location is what gives the park its unique allure. I guarantee most people who live in Boston have never been on the Blue Line unless if they were taking it to the airport. This is a destination that will get you out of your comfort zone and routine. There is more to the city than Back Bay, Downtown and the North End. Use this park to break the mold.
google avatar

Krisha C.

Yelp
Beautiful place. I'm pretty sure the reason Eastie is growing the way it is is because of the view from this park. It is well kept by the city and always has fireworks for certain holidays. Great spot for picnics, photos for special occasions, and to sit and read.
google avatar

Marisa C.

Yelp
Really great view of the harbor. Lovely grass to lay on and have a picnic. Only thing is they don't allow dogs. But great walking place.
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Nicest park in the City. Beautiful views of the skyline, lots of space, bathrooms, play area, spray pool, lots of space far away from kid area, exercise area and a fantastic sailing program. Parking is limited but on street parking g available.

Nene T.

Yelp
Our hidden gem park! Landscaping is always at its best. Views of the city are worth it. They have a kids playground that the kids love without the hassle of mulch Great picnic spot
google avatar

Yelp
What a beautiful park! A diamond in the rough. Clean, inviting and very well maintained!!!
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Beautiful park with breathtaking views of Boston. Very clean and well kept. Great play area for kids with fountain in the summer. Only reason for 4/5 and not 5/5 is that no dogs/no balls/ no "playing" allowed. If I'm outside, my dog is with me so I usually miss out on this beautiful area.
google avatar

Shineka P.

Yelp
VERY GREAT AREA, Don't live too far it's a good place to clear your head, definitely.
