The 17 Best Restaurants in Oakland, CA | Eater

"Jaynelle St. Jean’s Raspberry in Chocolate Crust is genius pie. The pastry straddles the line between shortcrust and a corner brownie’s crisp edges, and the filling, a red slush of tart, seeded berries, is almost shockingly luscious. The shop is minimal. You can have your pie and coffee at the table out front, in the odd little car-fringed plaza (really more of a bulbed-out gutter), gazing onto the tattoo shop or across at the chaos of stomped seafood boxes heaped at the curb before Rockin’ Crawfish. Better yet, carry your slice to nearby Pine Knoll Park at Lake Merritt. [$]" - John Birdsall

Tasty, tasty pies! They’ve got flavors for days with modern takes on classic recipes. Their black bottom walnut pie is seriously amazing. Very adorable and quaint space with friendly staff. If these pies were on sale I’d be here all the time! Grab a slice or a whole pie to make your day even better.

We have been eating Jaynelle's pies for a decade. I will never stop recommending her small business! Just love the creativity and beauty she creates with all of her pies! Thank you Jaynelle!

I got a gorgeous strawberry rhubarb pie from the Palo Alto pop up and it was not great. It was gorgeous, yes, but the pie’s lattice top was way too thick, mushy, and tasted like raw dough even though the top was nicely browned. The filling was good, but I would not pay this much for a not-so-fresh pie with scant filling and raw dough. The bottom was undercooked also. I was expecting a buttery, flaky crust. It’s really too bad because the pie was visually stunning. The taste of it reminded me of a Trader Joe’s baked item— not freshly made; slightly stale, and skimpy on the fruit. Probably the worst pie I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of pie! I even looked on the box to see if there were some baking directions I might have missed, but there were none. It was that bad.

Everyone from our friends and family who have tried their pies have loved them! One of my favorite spots for pies in Oakland :) We recently tried: - raspberry chocolate - spiced apple - key lime pie - walnut pie (similar to the pecan pie) AMAZING all of them. We brought them over to our friends' place to eat it after dinner and everyone loved them. It is a bit pricey (5.5$ each pie slice) but the taste is amazing. They also do cooking classes so I signed up for the next one whenever it will be. Got to learn to make delicious pies for my habibi :) highly highly recommend!

Delicious pie! Their custard like lemon pies are out of this world.

I'm normally more into baking pies than eating them, but these pies are incredibly delicious. The folks at Pietisserie consistently produce goods with excellent crusts and tasty fillings.  I highly recommend trying the "raspberry in chocolate" and "black bottom walnut" pies. Be warned that on more than one occasion I've purchased their pies for family events and then somehow consumed the entire pie by myself before the event occurred....

The pie was great. The experience was not. If you charge people $50 for ONE delivered pie, it’s officially a luxury item. I have no problem paying. However, I expect a smooth experience. Ordered a frozen pie for an event(chocolate strawberry). The pie was great. However, it was not ready for an event. Why? They didn’t include cooking instructions and they were closed on Sunday when we called. :/ The company sells different pies(meat and produce) that are meant to be enjoyed at different temperatures. Each pie should have those instructions clearly attached for that specific pie. If you deliver pies frozen, you should include clear instructions for each pie. No one wants to risk messing up an expensive pie and your generic instructions on your site aren’t clear for each specific pie. Small mistake but when you charge luxury prices they can’t be made. The effort was put in to include marketing material with the pie. You’re obviously focusing on the business. The same attention should be paid towards an enjoyable experience start to finish.....or lower your prices.

Wow !!! The pumpkin pie with chocolate crust was incredibly good. I love pumpkin pie and this was really special. Just the right amount of spice and the crust was amazing. Who would have thought that pumpkin and chocolate would go together so well. It does !!! The pies are pricey, but so is a great bottle of wine. I'll be ordering another for Thanksgiving. Hope this place becomes a permanent fixture at T and C.
