Pig Iron Burger Shack - Review - Georgetown - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This Georgetown smokehouse closed during the pandemic, and has now returned with a focus on pork burgers for lunch. These patties are juicy, with a caramelized crust from the flat top and a lightness that beef just doesn’t have. And while you could stack on toppings like house-cured kurobota ham, swiss cheese, and maple bourbon glaze, if you're here for one thing, it's the Plain And Simple, layered with yellow american and sweet special sauce that becomes one with the drippy pork juices. Rounding out the lineup of outstanding burgers are tasty deep-fried sides like cornmeal-crusted green tomatoes with jalapeño scallion buttermilk sauce and battered corn on the cob. This is a lunch worth canceling midday meetings for—or better yet, hosting here." - Aimee Rizzo

Two of us went for lunch. We both got the bacon pig burger. The buns were homemade, buttered, and browned on the flattop. The burger was crisp on the outside and flavoring. Very juicy and had lots of textures from the lettuce, onion, and bacon. Some kind of burger sauce was on it and added flavor to the burger. Besides not looking like beef, it tasted like an amazingly flavored hamburger. The fries were definitely handcut so not super crispy. They were seasoned and partially crispy so we ate them all. The service was friendly and attentive without being pesky. Besides being in a sketchy part of town, the ambiance is part bar - part burger joint. I thought it quaint and cozy. I definitely would go back to try the BBQ.

My first BBQ Pork Burger! Yummo! The Ham Burger was a winner with a slightly sweet glaze. We shared side of fries. Next time, we'll try the sweet potato fries. Love the fact they do their own meats in house. I had a Hard Chata. So my more things to try!

Molly was our server, she was lovely. This was a very unexpected experience. It's a restaurant that really transports you to a different place. It's a gritty, greasy, unapologetic place that you would be more likely to find in West Texas than SoDo. And then the food. It was absolutely spectacular. Pork burgers had a brilliant charred exterior that gave you the caramelized fat flavor but also the texture that burgers scream for. Lots of options for different tastes and the fried green tomatoes seemed like they came straight out of Mississippi kitchen. I thought I was going to hate it, I absolutely adored it.

This is a unique little BBQ joint. Feels very authentic and down to earth. I had 1/4 rack of ribs with the spinach-jalapeño casserole and the baked beans. The beans were more savory than your standard ‘Beans and brown sugar’ you normally find at BBQ joints. I was intrigued by the casserole so I tried it out and was super impressed. I don’t normally like cooked spinach, but I was plenty surprised by the flavor and texture, which was thicker and creamier than expected. I tried the peach cobbler, and although it took awhile to make (10 minutes ish) it was delicious, but order it when you order your main meal so it arrives when you are ready for it. The restaurant is connected to a bar, both owned by the same person. So you can order food and take it over if you want, or just stay in the family-friendly resturaunt.

Place is proper, excellent burgers and very kind and responsive service. I would recommend this to anyone for a quick lunch and a beer if your lucky. Cheers

Google
Amazing pork burgers. We had the Deluxe and Ham burgers and they were great. Shocked that no one has ever done pork burgers before. Try the fried corn on the cob. Again, something we have never seen before and it should be a "thing,"

Google
Great barbecue. They offer a variety of meats, including ribs, pork and brisket. Their cook style is defnitely southern (as compared to Texas style), and is excellent. Try the greens, they are really well prepared. The place is casual, and the staff is friendly.

Google
Gotta give these guys credit, when you walk in you are met with a smile and a consuming waft of bbq goodness. If you're lucky/smart enough to be early and they aren't sold out of everything, you will be treated to some deliciously tasty eats. Their brisket is delicious, their Ribs are tender and flavorful, and the experience is just a sensory overload. Highly recommend.

Yelp
There are a lot of reviews still under this name from when the place made bbq, and when they catered, if I am understanding all this correctly. They're now a burger joint only, with a short, well-designed menu, and they're tearing it up. If you're interested in a good burger with some subtle twists to it, don't hesitate based on old review scores. This place is rad now. It's in the semi-industrial south side of downtown, with wide streets, decent parking, and lots of buildings put up in the 40s-60s when Boeing was first really booming. Uneven sidewalks, kind of an odd patio, and a dining room that must have been a couple other things through the decades before it became a restaurant. Continuing the industrial theme, I'm guessing by how loud a couple other diners were talking, they probably work around LOUD machines all day. It's a friendly blue-collar vibe. There are booths in back, and sturdy little tables up front. The tables have tin tops that look like they probably got cut somewhere on this very block because the owners of these places are all friendly. There's old beer memorabilia, car memorabilia, and music memorabilia on the walls. The music's always playing and tends toward rowdy roadhouse country. I didn't hear anything too cowpunky, but I did see a framed poster from a Blasters show tacked up in the hall. The staff could not be friendlier, nicer, or more organized. They keep everything moving and you get all your food and refills super quickly. You get a little plastic menu on your table, and you're in business. Unsweet Tea This had good flavor and being from here, I appreciate the option to order iced tea without sugar. She never let the glass sit empty, either--she was quick with refills. Hand Cut Fries These are no joke. Crispy edges, soft inside, non-greasy for every bite. I know a few people who could probably take down more than one order of these, but one is a good serving that won't leave you feeling beached after you eat. Texas Heat Burger Every patty here is ground pork, which isn't insanely different, to be honest. There are so many other flavors on most burgers that pork is just a little juicier and a little milder in flavor, compared to ground beef. This one has lots of peppers on it but for my money it just added some tang and a couple other mild flavors, no real burning heat at all. But it was delicious. Fried Green Tomatoes They're proud of their FGTs for good reason. You can get them in 2 entrees and as a side on their own. They coat them with plenty of cornmeal, which really adds to the crunch and flavor. The fryer sounds like a jet plane taking off; they really sizzle in there. They're too hot to even touch, much less eat, when they hit your table. And when you do take the first bite, remember that the tomato inside is magma in the center, because the core just liquefies in that hot fryer. Absolutely delicious but don't scald your mouth. Be patient. FGT Sandwich More delicious tomatoes, but maybe they could rethink the rest of this. Instead of the nice burger buns, some toasted sourdough would be rad. Instead of coarse-chopped romaine, maybe some leaf lettuce. Instead of chopped bacon, maybe thick rashers. It feels more like a vegetarian burger than a sandwich right now, and building it as a sandwich instead would really show off the FGT and land with bigger flavors overall. We were out the door for $70 for 2 entrees, 2 sides, 2 drinks, and a good tip. Not the cheapest lunch, but not unheard-of prices anymore. And so worth it. It's AWESOME to find fried green tomatoes a little closer to home; we've been driving to Tacoma for 'em.

Yelp
Catering only. Not mentioned on Yelp so don't waste a drive. Tried to alert with a tip but didn't work

Yelp
la comida era deliciosa y sabrosa, fresca, limpia y a la temperatura perfecta, todo estaba maravilloso y la corteza del pescado estaba perfectamente frita como en una freidora o algo así, están a la altura de su reputación

Yelp
I came here with a coworker for lunch. This place is connected with Slims Last Chance. We came in and the ambience was that of a bbq place. Not like famous Dave's or Dickey's but like hole in the wall (in a good way) kind of place. I got the rib plate lunch with greens and mashed potato salad. The ribs were okay. They were a bit dry and I would have liked to see more of a bark on it with more bite. The greens were delicious! I don't normally like collard greens but these were amazing! The mashed potato salad was interesting. The flavor was there but it was odd to feel the texture of mashed potatoes thinking of an actual potato salad. I would still get it again. :) The customer service was great. There wasn't a lot of people there anyways, but she always made sure to check on us and ask if we needed anything.

Yelp
The brick and mortar is closed! Check them out for catering your game day or other party. Pretty piggy good! Long live the pig!

Yelp
This restaurant is most certainly NOT a 2-3 star place. It's at least a solid 4. The flavor of their brisket might be one of the best in the downtown Seattle and surrounding area. Their Collard Green and their Jalapeño Spinach Casserole were both purely delicious. Both of them slightly spicy. The service was good and servers were very pleasant. The menu is a little pricier than other places but once I tasted the food, I didn't mind the price any longer. The brisket was well smoked and very tender, as was their pulled pork. They were both meaty and the portions are satisfying, unlike a few other places I have gone to. If you like BBQ and haven't visited this place, you should definitely make it a stop in your near future.

Yelp
Small BBQ shop with a nice rustic southern style atmosphere good music selection. the pulled pork is moist and Smokey with a nice balanced rub. Really good pork! The regular BBQ sauce is ok with a bit much on the ketchup flavor, the hot bbq sauce is Smokey with a little kick, their mustard based BBQ sauce is spot on ! Coleslaw was a nice southern style creamy slaw that has a good balance. The beans i am not a fan, had a weird flavor too much chipotle or chili powder. They have there own labeled cola, they also sell Dads root beer.

Yelp
PIG VOMIT BBQ is the worst BBQ I've ever eaten or tried to eat.... Now I've made the effort to try this twice and each time I tossed my plate of food away. My biggest regret was I didn't walk into SLIMS and just have some chili! I fly to Texas for real BBQ so I know quality BBQ and this place is not one of them.. They should pay Arron Franklin to teach them the finer points of BBQ cooking. Or at least go to BBQ cooking school. Do your taste buds and wallet a favor and wait for McRib sandwich to come back before entering PIG VOMIT BBQ!

Yelp
Known for their BBQ catfish (platter or sandwich works) so give it a go. It's not smothered in BBQ like I feared, but it had an interesting flavoring. The catfish sandwich and potato salad as the side that I ordered was tasty. The salad wasn't to my liking, but it wasn't shabby. Their homemade "sweet" tea isn't comparable to the South's, but hey, it is the west coast version. Don't be freaked out since the staff will be covered with tattoos, but they are super friendly. This is a family business so I guess the customer service level, aside from the food, has probably given this place much hype. You can see their many awards displayed at the front as you enter so the rep is more than just hype. The hours of this place is like from 11 AM to 4 PM so plan your trip accordingly. Parking can be found behind the building.

Yelp
Meh.. I have had waay better. I mean, I understand I can't compare this BBQ to Texas, but definitely, there are better places in Seattle. First off, this place has a terrible parking lot! It is gravelly and has tons of puddles. It is also small, so, probably better off parking on the street. Service was also okay, they were nice and sweet, but they just got a new system and prices and add ons were missing. Also, no one needs to know about how the kitchen thinks you are wrong, just correct it! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with carmelized onions and their potato salad. The pulled pork was good, but the buns....I mean seriously, when it's a sandwich it is mucho importante to consider the bun! These buns were not buttered toasted, heck, not toasted AT ALL! I was expecting the potato salad to be chunky, but instead it was a scope of potatoes that had celery in it..not very fresh at all. Overall, this place can definitely improve on the food. Will probably eat at other BBQ places in the area...

Yelp
Was going to carry out and decided to hang as the atmosphere is typical BBQ joint that's easily located just a block north of Marginal Way on 1st St. as you head north toward downtown. I got the chopped brisket sandwich and was able to taste the potato salad, cole slaw, spinach casserole, link sausage and ribs. They put on some bread and butter pickles and sweet onion slices on the plates as a garnish. There's 3 different sauces; regular, chipotle and mustard Carolina sauce. The chopped brisket was good and I found that adding on the pickles, onions and some of the chipotle sauce brought it out a bit more. I was pleasantly surprised with the chipotle sauce. Only had a few bites of the baby back ribs (they ran out), but they had a good burnt end taste and they were pretty good although need to eat more to really have good feedback on them. The link sausage was a disappointment as it was mixed with some kind of sauce as I like my meat plain and I add the sauce. They have chicken and turkey, but it was meh too. Stick with the ribs and brisket is my advice for my taste. As for the sides, the spinach jalapeño casserole was really good and the best side they had hands down. The other sides I tasted were the mashed potato salad and the cole slaw; meh. Actually, the pickles and the onions were the best sides in my mind; that's not a good thing. Overall, I'm not disappointed in Pig Iron, just not so impressed I'll make a habit of coming here often. To quote the late Robert Eddison, "But choose wisely, for while the true BBQ will bring you life, the false BBQ will take it from you". Hope you choose wisely.

Yelp
Seattle: The Mendoza Line of BBQ Pig Iron, is another BBQ place that has some strong hits and then misses the ball entirely on other offerings. Let's start with the hits: The Jalapeno Spinach Casserole reminded me of my Grandmother's Cuajado de Espinaca, a cheese & spinach casserole with subtle peppery notes. The Greens were cooked nicely in vinegar. The mustard BBQ sauce and base BBQ sauce while not a home run were at least better than most grocery store offerings. Then the misses: For starters, the potato salad. While I appreciate attempts at innovation their potato salad wasn't nicely textured chunks with a celery/onion or mustard flavor, but rather a blended lump reminiscent of school mash potatoes with a squirt of BBQ sauce. However the strike out at the plate was the meat. The BBQ pork was dry and if it once held flavor it had long since left the park with any trace of moisture. The brisket was better but the texture was oddly stringy. A final note, given the establishment hours of 11-4 the restaurant it has to be considered a lunch spot; with a final ticket price of about $20/person this place is not inexpensive.

Yelp
Let me tell you kids something. Every time, and I mean EVERYTIME I come to Seattle I discover something new and glorious. Of course this trip is no different, the Georgetown inn where I normally stay is full so I'm stuck at the La hacienda motel down the road. Its about this time I start getting depressed because I google the word "food" because im lazy and the only things that pop up are all the spots i love on mainstreet on the other side of town and I am sans car... That means I don't have a car for all the uncultured heathens in the room. So I figure F* it I'll just walk around and if I'm not mugged maybe I'll find someplace cool. Or maybe I'll just get really tired give up and eat vending machine food. Hey you never know I like to keep my options open. It was right around the time I was fishing to see if I even had a loose dollar in my pocket for the vending machine that I saw the sign. In all its red neon glory it told me to "come and git it" I stood there kind of dumfounded for a minute over the word "git" if I'm going to be honest. But then I saw the other sign. You know the one next to the door that says "Zagat rated" and I thought to myself... Challenge accepted. Now let me tell you. Let me tell you something. Are you listening? Good cuz I'm only going to say this once for the non native pleebs who are missing out. Seattle is the kind of city where the people keep it real. If you are expecting froo froo whatever whatever with your zagat rating then you should turn back mortal - this is not the place for you. You should also reprioritize your life because you are almost certainly missing out on the good stuff. While your at it, you should probably call your folks, they are probably worried about you too. Ok we good? Good. Alright lets get to it. Pig Iron is not messing around. This is the kind of place where you walk in and tom waits or nick cave is on the radio. What's playing right now as I type this you ask? I don't know some kind of light grunge country I guess? I'm not a DJ come and see for yourself you lazy punk. I have eaten here every day for lunch working my way down the menu and everything - and I mean everything is good. OK now johnny cash is on. Its rusty cage. Absolutely perfect. Alright enough I am done, I want to finish my lunch. Come down here. Have some home made pig iron cola and have a 1/2 rack of ribs that is so heavy you could use it to knock someone unconscious. Personally my favorite thing so far is the sausage and sweet peppers. My recommendation. Come down here heathens and non-heathens alike. Get yourself some good culture good music and definitely some good food while your at it.

Yelp
Delish BBQ! I love the simplicity and casualness of this place. Right when you walk in, there are two signs that tell you exactly what to do: "Eating here? Take a seat!" and the other says, "To go? Order here!" We took our seats and ordered away. Sweet tea is awesome, and I love a place that has all their liquor on display along with their different types of unique drinks including Green River! I had to have the 3-item combo: spare ribs, beef brisket and pulled pork with beans and sweet potato fries. Awesome meal, great selection of BBQ sauces, the spicier one being my favorite and plenty of napkins to keep you somewhat decent when you're sucking down food so fast your friends just see blurring motions. A neat little BBQ joint with a bar next door. Certainly worthy of the awards they display on their walls.

Yelp
Ordered the stuffed and roasted jalapeños as a starter. It doesn't have the jalapeños kick to it. Also got the combo plate (all natural sliced brisket, pulled pork, and baby back ribs). The sauce goes really well with this combos. It would have been better if the baby back pulls off the ribs. The pulled pork was some what salty. It's worth trying if you're around the area.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
The staff was nice enough. The problem for me was the food. I ordered s pulled pork sandwich and potato salad and recieved only disappointment when I bit in. The pulled pork barbecue sauce was decent enough, but it was all I could taste. The meat itself was beyond bland...nothing that a bit of allspice or Laura's couldnt have remedied. I finished the pulled pork, but it was only because I was hungry. The potato salad was more cold potato mush than salad. I was told it was a mustard based potato salad, but it tasted like whatever mustard they used was bad. Again, nice staff...just bad, bland food.

Cyndi C.

Yelp
BBQ is back baby! Open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. The pulled pork and ribs are cooked to perfection! Stuffed Jalapeño pepper appetizer is so tasty, worth the splurge. I love that they serve mama Lils peppers as an add on for your sandwich plate! Note none of their sauces are hot. Adding the Mama Lils brings the perfect heat component here! Yum! Pretty sure this is my fav BBQ in Seattle

Yelp
I love their evil BBQ Pig logo; it's cute in a tough Georgetown kind of way and fits. Having not grown up in a BBQ popular city I have no idea what's good or bad when it comes to the stuff. But every once in a while I get a craving for some baby backs and since I can't for the life of me cook baby backs or any pork product for that matter I always go out to satisfy this craving. I met a friend here for dinner the other night, she enjoys the beef brisket very much and that's what she had along with the greens and sweet potato fries it was just as good as the last time she had it so that's a good sign. I went with the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, they were tasty, smoky, sweet, juicy and messy all at the same time; they were lovely I'm telling you. For my sides I went with the jalapeno spinach casserole, another tasty treat for my taste buds to enjoy, and the sweet potato fries, sweet, fried and salty a perfect combination if you ask me. I was pleasantly surprised with the yumminess of my dinner, they did not disappoint. They had some interesting specialty cocktails but we by passed those for a pitcher of Shiner Bock, something I never had before. It was good, almost too good because it gave me the burps like no beer has before, it was very unlady like of me but I was in Georgetown after all so I guess it was ok.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
It's OK. The meat doesn't have a lot of smokey taste. The vinegary sauce is tasty, but it shouldn't outshine the meat which it does. This place is overrated and overpriced.
google avatar

Kelly J.

Yelp
The Pig Iron is our choice for BBQ in Seattle. They have Shiner Bock on tap, cherry limeade, and some of the best brisket I've ever had. I love their Puyallup Fair sauce. As a rule, their sides are excellent and bring a lot of flavor and verve to the BBQ of one's choice. The downside is slow service. However, it's worth it more often than not.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Decent BBQ, not the best I've had but not the worst. I tried the brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. I normally prefer brisket but it was a little dry, so I liked the pork better. I was excited to see fried green tomatoes but unfortunately when I ordered them they had been left in fryer too long and were overcooked.

Yelp
Stopped in for a take-out lunch while working at a nearby warehouse this week. There isn't much in this area to eat, so expectations were low. However, I was seriously impressed with the Pig Iron Bar-B-Q. Decor is casual, but clean and roomy with floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides. There is ample seating with a number of small tables you can push together for larger groups. The kitchen is set-up out in the open behind tall glass panes, which always makes a good impression on me. Prices are reasonable for what you get, although I'd skip the combo next time and just get the BBQ itself. The service has that rare quality I enjoy called "spunk". It's a family operation, which I could see even before reading it on the top of the menu. The guys cook in the back while the mom and kid take care of the customers with charm, warmth, sass, and a big smile. I asked the kid what the best options were and she didn't hesitate to point out 2 choices, which immediately precipitated a hilarious debate between mom-and-daughter about what adjectives were appropriate when describing the food. Unfortunately, I was in a rush and couldn't stay to enjoy more of the vibe. My food was ready in under 10-minutes. I went with the brisket, which was amazing and served with one of the best BBQ sauces I've had in years. The roll was soft, but didn't fall apart on you. My only criticism was the side of coleslaw, which was dry and had no flavor - but I'm saying "5-stars" for the brisket alone. Good call, kiddo. : )

Yelp
Drove past this place while down in Seattle for business, so we decided to stop for lunch on our way out. The waitstaff were friendly enough (not jovial or anything) but we still tipped them well. We shared the 3 meat combo plate for $24. Sounded like a solid deal until seeing the portion sizes. We had ribs, brisket and pulled pork. We also had creamed corn and beans for our sides. The meat was a little dry and there seemed to be lacking some real smoke flavor in the brisket and pork. The creamed corn wasn't bad, but the beans were not to our liking. They were super thick...almost like a peanut butter consistency; and didn't have great flavor. In the end, we were not overly impressed and even departed with a little food still left on the table. We likely won't return, as nothing about this restaurant would make it worth the 45min drive into Seattle.

Yelp
Very good bbq. Little place, out of the way but amazing food and great service. Best sweet tea

Yelp
Sauces (all three varieties) on the table like maple syrup...heaven. And it isn't grossly sweet like other BBQ I have tasted in the area (let's face it the NW ain't known for its BBQ). Sweet potato fries were a perfect side arm to the array of meats my duo ordered. All of the staff was friendly as it was early on a Friday evening, just a few tables. Pork, Chicken, Ribs, Brisket, OH MY! & hopefully yours too.

Yelp
Fried green tomatoes in Seattle! I'll admit, it was my first time having fried green tomatoes, but that roasted jalapeno scallion buttermilk dip (say that with a full mouth) was unbelievable! We ordered the brisket and pulled pork sandwiches and a side of sweet potato fries and slather. For those that care, slather is a mayo-based gravy dip that I could crawl into bed in, and "slather" it over everything, even ice cream. The 3 sauces option is also ingenious. For everyone's amusement, I poured a little bit onto every bite that I took. Sauces are pig iron sauce (mild), chipotle (a little hotter) and a delicious mustard. The homemade sodas, and water are served in a mason jar. There's smooth Patti Smith being played over your smooth saucy meat. The price could be a bit cheaper (or the portions bigger) but otherwise, nothing is better.

Yelp
I debated writing a review after one visit but it will probably be a while before I go back so at least I can get a point of reference out there. We came in a half an hour to close (we did a to-go order; I would never sit-in to eat so close to closing time!) One of my peeps was grumpy because our first choice (Slim's Last Chance) didn't have any seats and he was craving something particular there. We drug him over here with arms crossed over his chest and looked at a really nice-sized BBQ menu. The "No Ma'ams" here: -We didn't get acknowledged. I'm not sure about you, but I always associate BBQ with hospitality. Maybe that's a stereotype, but there it is. -My pulled chicken sandwich is supposed to come with a choice of 1 of 3 sides, but I was not offered a side (coleslaw, beans, or a mashed potato salad) I did order a $4 side of jalapeno spinach casserole, so maybe that's where the confusion came in? -The famous BBQ sauce? We got home and they had put in 3 small containers of sauce...for 3 people. You know the cups--pizza places put parmesan into them. Yeah, that small of a cup. And the BBQ sauce was light on my sandwich for my taste, but that's just a preference. The "Yes, Sirs" here: -The pulled Chicken sandwich had a generous amount of chicken on it. And if you get your side, the price is great. -The Mr. enjoyed the baby back ribs . -The décor is awesome. Loved all the Texas-themed decorations (did you know that there are different kinds of barbed wire?) The thing that will probably end up bringing me back is the Fried Green Tomatoes app I saw on the menu. I really do love Fried Green Tomatoes, but the glutton in me was bound and gagged in the corner that night, and none of my people like them, so I couldn't get an order to share. Check it out; let me know if you run into the same service issue we did. And for goodness sakes, report back about their Fried Green Tomatoes!

Yelp
And on the 8th day God created Pig Iron....... Where has this place been all my life?! I will tell you...down the street from where I work on 1st Ave S. The best freakin BBQ I have ever had. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the sweet potato fries. The Sweet potato fries are what dreams are made of. I can't shut up about those fries! Don't get me started on the Slather that you dip them into...it's this aioli mixed with bbq sauce?? I don't know, but the taste lingered lovingly in my mouth all day. They are open limited hours as with most BBQ places. Pig Iron is open M-F only. Is it lunch yet?

Yelp
My dinner here was the best dinner I've had in a LONG time (I keep saying this about meals, I must have been eating crappy the past few months). Not only was I with 2 of my favorite people in the entire world, but the food was amazing and the service was even better. Our server was this surly, older lady who wasn't afraid to swear and serve us some stiff drinks - and she was hilarious. I was literally in tears because I was laughing so hard. She's like that crazy aunt who sends you a pack of Marlboro Reds and a six pack of PBR for your 16th birthday - and I LOVED her to death. I'm thinking about going there and asking her to adopt me or something. The place was super cute and kitschy. They were playing country music when we walked in, there were some nostalgic movie and country concert posters on the wall, our drinks were served in mason jars and the server (who jots all the orders down on one of those old carbon copy pads) was wearing a red and white checkered shirt with her hair in pigtails. I mean, COME ON! It doesn't get anymore kitschy than that. Besides the cute decor and good old fashioned service, this place serves up some great BBQ. It's not easy to find good BBQ joints in Seattle but this one was the best I've been to. The sweet potato fries were amazing (just a tip - dip them in the mustardy bbq sauce). The sandwich I ordered was perfect - super tender meat, super saucy and messy, just how I like it. If you don't think your meal ALREADY comes with enough BBQ sauce, each table has 3 different BBQ sauces on it - original, chipotle and mustard. You should probably try them all (I sure did)! Though this place is a bit further than I usually like to venture for food, I WILL be back. That lady has to sign my adoption papers after all.

Yelp
BBQ for posers. Just tried the brisket and two side dishes. It has to be a generational thing; I don't care about tattoos, hot rods or faux attitude, but I expect my BBQ to taste like real BBQ. This place has plenty of show, but little rich smoke flavor or smoke ring on the meat. The brisket was similar to grandmas oven roasted brisket with a smoke flavored sauce. It was very dry which means too much fat was trimmed before cooking. Again that's not real BBQ. The beans were Texas style doctored canned beans or way too old and the bread was stale. The cole slaw was a coarse cut with a tasty light mayo style dressing. It was the highlight of the meal. Take a look out back. No wood pile and lots of number 10 can carcasses. Not a good sign. You may not like Pecos pit use of sauce, but it has real smoked meat in their sandwiches. Roy's or R&L or Jones are still two steps above Pig Iron for their food and Roy's also has beer. Just a little texas tip; count the number of pickups and beemers in the parking lot. If they're about the same you got a good cue joint.

Yelp
This past Saturday, we had stopped in here for a late lunch. I always wanted to dine-in at this restaurant. I always had a friend do a Pig Iron run and bring back mass food back to the house. I had the chicken (ok), smoked sausage (good) and most of all, I really love their perfectly smoked ribs. For starters, we had their fried sweet p'tater fries with their 'slather', a Thousand Island dressing with a twist. It came in on a baby iron cast pan (cute), perfectly crisp, lightly salted and was delicious. I had the BBQ beef brisket sandwich. The brisket was cooked so tender it had melted in your mouth with each bite. OH so good! It had come with side of potato salad. You can taste a slight hint of BBQ sauce in it. It was alright. Of course, I had to taste my bf's meal. He had ordered their smoked sausage sandwich. It looked burnt and over cooked and drowned in their BBQ sauce. It wasn't too appealing and yet it was ironically good. Looks can be deceiving, I guess and I don't think I would ever order it. He had the side of BBQ beans and again about the looks, but this time it was delicious! I also love their mustard BBQ sauce. It complimented well with ALL the meals that I had and in the past, with their ribs. YUM! I will be back and try their fried green 'maters. A MUST GO! =)

Yelp
First, it was the flavor of my mate's delicious and perfectly-seasoned baked beans. Then it was the taste of his delectable catfish sandwich. Then I started on my own plate... :) Pulled pork is the standard bearer for great, basic barbecue and this was the moment I've been looking for since moving to Seattle from Chicago in the twilight of 1999: THE Best Barbecue in Seattle, hands down. The mild sauce had plenty of home-made zing with all the spices working together to create a rich, full experience for every zing-starved zone in my mouth. One specific flavor dominated perfectly, and I identify it as coriander. Double-Plus Yum. But oh my God today, the spinach... Jalapeno Creamed Spinach to be precise, this modestly-presented fixin' was beyond the pale of yum perfection. I would have to say it is Quadruple-Plus Yum Extreme to the Max. Yeah, that's my assessment and I'm sticking to it like Junior Bush sticks to a quagmire. I will be back and I will try many things on this menu, even the electric-red velvet cake which was certainly not colored with anything from nature. Even so, I am sold. This is it, my children. Georgetown has birthed the best Barbecue. And oh yeah, the tattooed lady waitresses all rock the house...

Yelp
I was expecting a lot after seeing this place on the travel channel. The service was great, but the meats were mediocre. I couldn't tell if the meats were smoked or not. The baby back ribs, pulled pork, and tri-tip were all dry. They had a selection of sauces which I really didn't care for. It was also extremely expensive for a small portion of food. No mac n cheese. The only thing that made my experience memorable was the limeade served in cute mason jars.

Yelp
I figure when the best part of my meal is a side dish, something has to be wrong. The Jalapeo Spinach Casserole was solid, nothing to write home about so saying that, you know the bbq wasn't all that and a bag of chips. The 3 amigos went here for lunch one day, myself and 2 co-workers, that place is a bit too biker-wantabe for me. Prices are far to high for the size of the portions. Just check out the online menu, you've been warned.... I like my Que S-L-O-W cooked, where the flavor in the meat has been blessed by the wood-Gods and because of this slow cooking process, FAT is needed on the meat being cooked. I think that's why I don't care much for bbq'ed chicken. Any-who, like I said slow cooking can't be faked, well actually it can and it comes in a nasty little bottle called Liquid Smoke. I'm not say'n that's what is going on here, but when I walked up to this place I did not smell any wood burning! If you like your Que served up by a bitchy biker chick in leather with tattoos in obscure places and plates made out of tin, you'll be happy.

Yelp
Pig Iron has a fun, roadhouse feel to it, enough Americana to make you feel like you could be in a Texas Roadhouse, but not too much kitsch. I like the aluminum plates and casserole dishes and mason jar glasses. I really like the pulled pork plate here at Pig Iron. The pulled pork is generously sized, the meat is tender and seasoned perfectly. Every plate comes with two sides, but I always get a double portion of the jalapeno spinach casserole. You've got to try their sauces too, they have three on each table- Mild, Hot and Chipotle. Service is usually pretty friendly and fun. Definitly worth checking out in G-town.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure someone who was born and raised in Washington state wouldn't know good BBQ if it slapped them in the face. However, Pig Iron was pretty good. I started with a plate of friend green tomatos, which are honestly the best thing on the menu. If you go, definitely order up 2-3 servings of those! The entrees were OK. I appreciate that they BBQ their meats with sauce and spices and don't leave them bare. For some reason this is a trend up here. A horrible, sacrilegious trend. The brisket I had was very tender and their sauce selection was OK - not award winning. The issue I had with the menu was that when I think of BBQ I think of a big pile of food - different meats all on one plate. Maybe it was just the lunch menu, but I didn't see options to combine anything.

Yelp
Fried green tomatoes, solid BBQ and Shiner ON TAP?!! Pardon me a minute while I take a knee..... Okay, I'm back. These are definitely tastes from home for me, so I'm walking in happy. Been there a few times and never been disappointed although I do agree it's a bit pricey. 2 side notes 1) the buttermilk sauce is pretty good, but back home we our fried green maters with just ketchup. Pig Iron does a solid job on these, makes me think my Dad's back there cooking them up himself. 2) this is also the only place in Seattle where I've found Big Red to drink (in a bottle, not fountain) for those fellow Southerners out there.

Yelp
Who doesn't like charred meat? Seriously. I mean, despite what vegetarians and really annoying vegans say, their mouths water at the smell of BBQ. It's a visceral, primal, human reaction. Sure, you could eat granola and tofu and add two years to your life but is it really worth it? It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. The charred meat here is not East Texas- or Memphis-worthy, but the advantage here is that you don't have to travel to either (and really, who would want to) to eat a reasonable approximation. The brisket was tender and smoky, the pulled pork sweet, and the hot links HOT. Add a pitcher of Shiner Bock (yeah, I know, but it goes great with BBQ), and you have a winner. Great sides (jalapeno/spinach casserole, smoky beans) And like any respectable BBQ place, there is no ambiance to speak of, save the cool woman taking care of us. Pig sooey.

Yelp
I'm going to go with no on this place. the first time we went me and my girlfriend were on our way to Pecos and happen to pass it by and i thought we should support a different BBQ joint. she was OK with it so we went in and was pretty impressed with the looks of the place, we sat down ordered some sweet teas that came in a ball jar( very cool) and then like a fat man rolling down hill it all went south!. the waitress comes up to give our menus and the first thing she tells us is " we are out of pork today" !!!!! holy fuckin hell are you shitting me? its your job to have pork, its like going to temple and there out of religion!!! anyways we ordered some brisket and sliced turkey sandos with sides. the food was OK, the sauces are tasty, sides yummy, sweet potato fries very good. another strike was the plain untoasted crumbly bun that really doesn't work for good Q. i have been back several months later to give it another shot since i feel everyone gets on fuck up. this time they were not out of pork but that really didn't help that much. would i go back? only if i was starving for Q and Pecos was closed. mmmm pecos pit i hear your calls to me, iam on my way

Yelp
Went here for lunch for the first time the other day. My co-workers go here often since we're right down the street and it always smells delicious, but I've never tried it myself. Now that I have i can understand why I frequently see those beautiful brown boxes, especially on payday ;) The second I walked in, I was greeted with the heavenly aroma of bbq and spices. Not a bad first impression at all :) The building appears small from the outside, but the inside is actually quite spacious and very nicely decorated and laid out. That's always a plus. There were several people eating and chatting, it felt very welcoming and familiar. I dug the vibe for sure. I'm kicking myself that I didn't ask for her name, but the woman who helped us was super friendly and had one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen - excellent service. After salivating over the entire menu, I decided on the pulled chicken sandwich with the sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes. My co-worker stayed with his "usual", the pulled pork sandwich. Everything looked and smelled amazing, I didn't know how i was going to choose! Once i got back to work (we took it to-go) I could hardly wait to crack open that box of goodness. Once i did, I started with the mashed potatoes. Very good! I am a potato girl and have had my fair share of mashed potatoes, this was right up there with the best of em. The sweet potato fries with the chipotle sauce was bomb.com. Not too greasy or heavy, but crispy and hot as they should be. And they give a nice hearty portion too, that's always a bonus! Now it was time for the headliner .. that pulled chicken sandwich. The bun got a little soggy (sadface) but boy did that chicken have flavor. So rich and just the perfect little kick in the sauce! I had bbq sauce all over my hands and looked like a mess, but c'mon isn't that what bbq is? Overall, I'd recommend this place. It can get a little spendy if you're on a budget, but maybe that's because we got sides and everything. For both of us it was $35, but it was a good $35 investment that my stomach thanked me for. And I will definitely return for more bbq goodness, this time I'm dining in!

Yelp
Kinda feels like this restaurant got built with the extra money from the biker bar next door but you don't actually have to be a biker nor do you have to get "Jumped IN" to have that yummy BBQ? And not having to get "Jumped IN" to eat takes a lot of stress out of lunch. All of it is worth trying and they do this little in-house cola which was entertaining.

Yelp
No. just no. Meat had no flavor Sauce tasted like chili powder (all of them) Mashed potatoes were seriously the weirdest thing I've ever consumed Beans tasted like they were canned and doctored up with some of their chili powder sauce. Very thick and mushy. Way overpriced considering the fact the the pickles were the tastiest thing I ate at the place.

Yelp
Sweet tea, sweet potato fries, fried green tomatoes with a jalapeno ranchy sauce. Yum. They've expanded their hours as well, so you should eat there all the time. Try the mojito. Try the catfish. Actually, just go with a bunch of friends and order everything on the menu. I have never been able to eat my food in one sitting. It may be pricey, but you're essentially getting two meals.... Support your local businesses. Especially the ones with hot tattoo-laden servers. Servers who are surprisingly pleasant. My company has had half a dozen "business lunches" here in the past year (AND I go here in my off time) and EVERY SINGLE person we have taken to Pig Iron has fallen immediately in love.

Yelp
I'm from South Carolina and it's hard to find good pulled pork BBQ, sweet tea, and fried green tomatoes within a 1000 mile radius of Seattle. Seriously, finding sweet tea is like finding gold. (if you don't like tea, their cherry limeaid rocks) Pig Iron is soooo good! Four delicious sauces to chose from, ribs, pulled pork, you name it...so good. My only complaint is their stupid hours. They are open the oddest times and never on the weekends. It's so lame. So if you can squeeze it in your week day schedule to get all the way down there (it's good to do a joint Costco/Pig Iron outing) it's well worth the trip!

Yelp
*Update* 9/12/08 I've changed my tune. After coming here for a coupla years, I'm tired of it and need a new BBQ staple joint. The meat just doesn't cut it for me and it's usually too dry and too light on smoke. I get tired of eating it and that's defo not a good sign. Their buns for their sandwiches are also dry and stale (can't you toast those things?) and y'all shouldn't be using iceberg lettuce on a $10 sandwich. I had the BBQ catfish sandwich last night as a last chance (close to the only thing left on the menu to try) and my stomach ached all frickin night!!! On the plus side: I'd still go to pick up some of their bottled sauce though. and my girlfriend loves their fried-green tomato sandwich and sweet tea.....

Yelp
I read great stuff about this place - so it sounded like a good idea to have them cater a lunch. Which turned out pretty great - the bbq was a hit - the rolls were decent, the cobbler was pretty good. We had to pick up, but they offered paper products (additional cost), and everything was still piping hot. I would like to go to their restaurant and try on site!

Yelp
Leave it to me to order a grilled fish sandwich at a BBQ joint, but, then again, there are rewards to not always going with the obvious choices. I could of easily went with a pulled pork sandwich when I recently paid a visit to Pig Iron Bar-B-Que, but I've eaten a lot of pulled pork in my time. What I haven't had a lot of are grilled fish sandwiches. Most often, fish is fried before it's incorporated into a sandwich. Not that that's a problem, but there is something inherently more difficult in grilling fish and having it stand out in sandwich form. I'm happy to report that Pig Iron has found a way! According to the menu the catfish fillet is marinate in Shiner Bock and Pig Iron sauce and then grilled. If that sounds like the catfish would be overpowered by the marinade, you'd be wrong. The flavor of the catfish still comes through. That's a plus if you like catfish, which I do and if you don't, well, I doubt that you would have order this sandwich in the first place. The grilling also provides nice surface areas where the sauce gets caramelized and extra delicious. Lettuce, a smear of remoulade and an extra drizzle of remoulade over the fillet. All that is situated on a soft potato roll. The remoulade isn't overly assertive, once again, allowing the catfish to be the star ingredient of the sandwich. The potato roll is a good choice. Its soft texture makes eating the somewhat delicate fillets that much easier to handle without it slipping away from the inside of the sandwich. However, I wish that the roll had been toasted on the flat top. It was somewhat cold a little denser than it should have been. It's all a matter of degrees. You certainly wouldn't want it as toasted as you would for a hamburger, but you you don't want it untoasted either. I know that's nitpicking, but, hey, this is technically a review. Trust me, though, I greedily finished this sandwich. It was an unexpected surprise coming from a BBQ place and a total winner!

Yelp
When your boss shows up at your desk and asks you to lunch, you never refuse. When your boss asks you if you like BBQ, you always politely respond in the affirmative. Thus how I found Pig Iron. Sweet potato fries that aren't greasy, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside? OMG I've died and gone to heaven!! While the actually Smoked Pulled Pork sandwich was slightly drier than I would have usually desired, the pork itself was tender. The potato salad was slightly less than remarkable. But those sweet potato fries....... Le Sigh. I think the clincher in the whole thing was that they serve your drinks in old Mason Jars (not authentic ones, mind you). I give it three stars for fantastic SPF's and decent atmosphere. It's devoid of two stars due to the fact that the waitress never returned after delivering our food, I was forkless throughout the meal and the dryness of the pulled pork. Extra sauce on the side would have given this place 4 stars.

Yelp
Gross? Yes. I think the pulled pork was really from the large rat traps they have stationed underneath the crawl space of the place. (yes, we saw huge rat traps) Ok, so I'm exaggerating, but when our order of a pulled pork sandwich arrived, it was on a plain white bun that was cold. Not even grilled inside. The meat was dry and at room temperature and had no detectable smokiness to it. The sweet potato fries were more "fun" than tasty, as they had an interesting mayo based dip and various BBQ sauces to immerse them in. The beans were pretty good though super sweet. I left hungry, because I didn't want to gorge myself on the boring bun and mediocre meat. Even if the meat had actually tasted like it was smoked, it still would have been over-priced for what we were served. Disappointed.....
