Piggybacks BBQ & Catfish

I wanted barbecue pork today on our journey from our home in Chapin, SC to Surfside Beach. I wanted to get off the boring interstates route (I20 & I95). I found Piggyback’s BBQ & Catfish on Google Maps in Lake City, SC (and with an excellent rating). We stopped by for lunch on the outside with our dog. We both had a barbeque pork sandwich, fries and fried okra. All were delicious and the meat was packed on the bun. With a sampling of their World’s Best catfish nuggets, we will have that next time too. Clean and inviting space, friendly people, great prices, delicious food - highly recommended!

We were traveling from Palm Beach Gardens Fl to Myrtle Beach to visit family for the holiday I did not want fast food looking up google restaurants near me… we found this gem!!! To our delight took us off the main track to the most lovely little downtown area I assume Quaint and lovely .. now the food here It was delish Atmosphere was wonderful. We got a family style sampler platter Due to being 8pm unfortunately we didn’t get to try the brisket which I’m sure was delish . Our picks were ribs, catfish, pulled pork, collards, okra, onion rings, and Cole slaw. Loved it all!! Even though we ordered at register staff was attentive to our needs with bring items we needed!

If you are looking for excellent fried fish tacos, these were approved by a Californian; fries were tasty too. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked so good!

Love the family atmosphere and the staff is Amazing. Got the BBQ fries to eat and as always it was wonderful! Tonight they even had Fish Stew. Will definitely be back!

We were not planning to stop in Lake City, but due to an unforeseen schedule change, we stopped here for lunch, and I am glad we did. The restaurant is clean, even the bathroom. Not knowing when we might return, we ordered a variety of food. The chicken wings and hushpuppies were delicious. Very much enjoyed the whole dining experience.

We visit artfields every year and we ALWAYS make sure to stop by for some food before we leave! The staff are super sweet and the food is on point! The food is so good that I think about it all year!

Driving west out of Myrtle Beach and took the rural route to enjoy the scenery. Blown Away by this place! This little out of the way place is a great surprise! Had the catfish fillets. They also offer nuggets. But they have chicken wings, burgers, BBQ and sometimes steak! My wife had the Blue Cheese and Sirloin Salad and loved it! Highly recommend!

Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff and delicious food, what more can you ask for, it was a $6.00, special today. Even if it's not a special of the day you'll still get a good amount of food.

2 visits to this place in one weekend! Yes.. we ate here twice during our weekend visit to the city. The staff was friendly. The service was great. The food was absolutely delicious! I love the vibe of this place. We absolutely love fish and to be able to get some good fried fish was a huge plus!

I drove all the way from Myrtle Beach to get here and the food is wonderful. I never expected to go to Lake City for excellent catfish and barbecue. My wife loved the salad. She loved the black and blue salad which is sirloin and blue cheese. I didn't expect them to even sell burgers and from what I heard the people next to us talking about they said they loved the wings. Enjoy the food

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants but lately the quality of the food has really deteriorated. The food tastes old and seems to be getting worse. A family member ordered wings during our LAST visit. They were so bad that she could not even eat them. I am saddened that what used to be such a great venue has come to this.

We was visiting the local area checking out the ArtFields yesterday, and we decided to stop by and enjoy some lunch here. They are well known in the local area for their BBQ and catfish, so I wanted to give them a try based on their Google reviews. The staff was friendly and helpful will I was ordering our food. They have indoor seating, no Wi-Fi network available. We decided on their brisket sandwich basket and their catfish basket. We truly enjoyed everything we ordered, but the brisket was kinda of fatty. But besides that the brisket had more fat than I'd prefer, it was very moist and not too dry. The catfish was very good, and their French fries were homemade and very tasty. No private parking lot, but there is available street and nearby parking lots available. I'm sure that we will be back in near future when we visit this area again.

Best restaurant in Lake City! This place is amazing. Best barbecue I've ate in South Carolina and the steaks and shrimp is the best in town! Staff is always friendly. The atmosphere is always upbeat in this place is always clean. You can't ask for a better restaurant! I love PIGGYBACKS!!!

This is my second time eating here. My niece loves the wings from this place. The first time I came, I had the pulled pork with sides. It was delicious and well seasoned. This second time we had the lemon pepper wings. The wings were crisp and the flavor was truly lemony and peppery! Sometimes lemon pepper wings are salty and there's just a hint of the actual flavor. With these you can taste fresh lemon and pepper. We also had hush puppies and the honey butter that came with it was divine. They have an extensive menu of bbq and seafood with specials. Be prepared to wait when you go here since they prepare your food to order. Customer service was ok. We were greeted upon entering and that was it. They don't exactly have full service...you get your own drinks, etc.

This place should be ashamed to call what they serve "BBQ" My gosh, both of our meals not edible terrible ribs swamped in bbq. sauce no bark seemed steamed and the brisket was the same. both dishes lukewarm Too bad.

The food was fresh. tasty and delicious. The service was great and the staff friendly. The atmosphere was more of a southern, down home type.

We stopped here for lunch. Service was prompt & the food was good. We ordered a Catfish Dinner and a Catfish Basket for two of us. The restaurant does add a service charge to your bill if you pay with a credit card. The street in front of the restaurant is one way with parallel parking on both sides of the street. The restaurant also serves wine slushy & beer. They had a good lunch crowd while we were eating so it's one of the local go to places when in town.

This was a surprise find in Lake City, SC. The BBQ was good Carolina Style with some homemade sauces that were also good. I had the grilled shrimp po-boy. The shrimp were fresh and the roll was soft. A nice sandwich.

Over priced, cold, old unsmoked food. I ordered beef brisket. They even charges for the onion and pickles that come with it! No service. Plastic cutlery . At $61. For 2 I should have 2 knives. Just one. Very very disappointed

The food is amazing. The catfish nuggets are the best I've ever had. Oh, and you better try their shrimp tacos! The pineapple salsa will bring you back time after time! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the wait time (even when you call it in a head of time). I was once told they wouldn't start making it unless you paid over the phone... but they're still new & there's time to improve!

We stopped in here Saturday evening. Friendly fast service. We enjoyed fried jalapeños and bbq brisket French fries. We ordered Philly brisket sandwich to go. We enjoyed the sandwich and Mac & cheese today, it was wonderful. Enough to share. We will definitely return !

This place has amazing food! Our first visit made it hard to decide what we wanted, but we tried the catfish sandwich basket with coleslaw and onion rings. It was wing Wednesday, so we also got 6 bbq wings. Everything was very delicious, hot, and fresh. I don't live in the area, but would most certainly stop here anytime I am close to passing through.

Delicious meal. BBQ was great. The catfish is the best ever. Fried okra was yummy. Fried skins crunchy and tasty. Definitely worth driving the alternate way home from the beach!

I called to place an order for a later pick-up and was put on hold for nearly five minutes @ 11:00 am, which is understandable during these times. We ordered one pulled pork sandwich with fries and slaw and one brisket sandwich with the up-charged $1.49 sweet potato fries and slaw. Firstly the pork had little to no smokiness and was on the dry side. I wasn't able to use the included bbq sauce because it was so overly sweet and had the consistency of watered-down ketchup. The oil used to grill the bun was grossly unappealing it left a rancid after taste and had to be thrown away. The thick-cut fries included were tasty, but limp which I prefer, and the slaw was delicious. The brisket sandwich contained three thick slices of brisket with zero bark, no smoke flavor, and was chewy; far from fall apart tender. I suspect they serve a brought-in product from a distributor or the cook lacks patience and experience. The upgraded sweet potato fries were shoestring cut, overcooked and inedible. For anyone who prefers limper fries (like myself) and good coleslaw, this is the place for you. If you are looking for smoky BBQ, you might want to look elsewhere.

Spent a couple of days in Lake City at Crossroads RV park. This place did not disappoint! The bbq and brisket were good but oh my goodness the catfish nuggets and homemade tarter were out of this world! Can't wait to come back!

I'm not sure if you can call this BBQ. They definitely put BBQ sauce on it. No smoke flavor. I'm guessing they boil their meat. Even the Mac and cheese was bad.

Always Good, Ribs Outstanding, I love the Catfish Nuggets too. The service is normally quick. To go orders are normally ready when I arrive, Only had one experience where I needed to wait a few minutes. Overall Good Spot.

The service was great, friendly, and patient (because we couldn't decide what we wanted because it all looked delicious). Everything was amazing! The BBQ, the chicken, and brisket...not to mention their sauce was some of the best I've ever tasted!! Oh, and their fried pickles were yummy!! We will definitely be revisiting!

Stop in today while pass through. I had beef brisket sandwich plater and she had pork fried sandwich with sweet potato fries. Also had try hush puppies. All tasted excellent and fresh. The service was great. We had great experience even though everything is shut down due to the covid19 virus. They had a few small tables with chairs on side walk. We would recommend and we will return.

The customer service was terrible. The manager called me the N word and proceeded to tell me to leave after already paying for my food. I don't recommend coming here at all. Disgusted!!!!

The person working at the register seen to be new or did know what he was doing. Once I received my order that was incorrect. I went back to the register to tell the young man he then sent the manager or owner probably Shannon it sound let the same situation below. Very Rude unapologetic then she disappeared Sent a corrected order out buy the kitchen staff which I advised I did not want it he left it anyway. I went back register ask for the manager she would not come out or refund my money. I didn't really make a fuss about it because it was only $5.99 However, you can't run a business like that. The bad part is you pay before you get your food and also pay your tip. If your in business you have to deal with the good and the bad.

I loved this place for the country boil but they are redoing the menu and that is no longer on the menu. The bbq is okay but not a stand out. If you like a salad bar they do have that. This used to be a place to drive from Sumter to eat at but not anymore. Stop in if you are in town but don't go out of your way.

Excellent food and atmosphere located in the newly revamped small town of Lake City. Proud to be a former classmate of this restaurants owner. This is not just another bbq restaurant. This is a well thought out menu with good choices. The fish tacos are delicious!!

The food is delicious I got a brownie with ice cream and a catfish nugget snack for only $17! Definitely Recommend!

Very good food a little expensive but worth it, great environment, the hot sauce was amazing.

Took my boys for a day out in lake city. Boys wanted lunch and found this place. They have bbq but I went for the burger. It was juicy and I got all the toppings. It has been awhile since I've eaten a burger that was so juicy and yummy. Definitely coming back. My oldest son got a burger and youngest got chicken tenders. My son loved his basic burger and the youngest enjoyed his tenders.

One of my absolute favorite places to eat. Great little local spot, in my home town of, Lake City, SC (home of Artfields)! Piggybacks has great food and excellent customer service. Daily specials and burgers named after our local radio hosts! It's a must try place if you are ever in town.

It looks like much when passing by, BUT, don't be fooled!.... the customer service is squat, sucks crap. This was my first time and last time visiting this low-budget restaurant. Who likes old, cold hard french fries? I don't. SMH. I asked the wait staff and apparently they don't either....attitudes of low altitudes. We asked for seasoned fries and they didn't season the fries. Poorly seasoned food & no seasoned food. We asked for hot food and was served just the opposite. ESTABLISHMENTS THAT SERVE THE COMMUNITY OUGHT TO CONSIDER THE SIMPLE PRINCIPLE...DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM TO DO UNTO YOU. Word of mouth can either bless your business or curse your business. Practice serving quality food and you will receive quality reviews. This is a poor example of southern hospitality. Zero (0) stars is what Piggybacks bbq & catfish deserve. Totally disappointed. Learn from Chick-Fil-A on how to soar in excellent customer service. Good bye! Good riddance! Farewell!

We have visited this restaurant on 4 separate occasions. Not once have we received the correct order but was optimistic that with experience they would improve; however today was noteworthy. The restaurant is clean and MOST of the staff was pleasant and friendly; however, Shannon, who was said to be the owner, was exceptionally rude and disrespectful in every way possible. We were one of two customers in the restaurant at the time. We placed our order before anyone else and waited for our order. Note one item was an appetizer but once again after the meal was served. The other customer who was after us by approximately 5 minutes received their food and a "to go" food order prior to us receiving any items. When asked about our order the young man at the register inquired and a very rude lady came with two baskets and threw the food on the table and said to the young man as she walked back to the kitchen that she would not deal with us. Then following my cancellation of the oysters and a request for a refund for them they were served (5 minutes later and no refund). Even after I went to the counter to ask for the owner or managers, Shannon who was supposedly in charge never addressed us, apologized for the wait or frustration but instead allowed her staff to answer for her which did not seem respectful nor professional
