We had an amazing experience here! Highly recommend! We were a party of 6 and had plenty of seating. It was a great experience overall. The owner that helped us was great and even allowed us to get a sample before ordering. He explained everything and the sauces. The Cock sauce is the best and I’ll leave that experience for you to find out. Awesome little place!

Google
This restaurant is a staple on our outer banks vacation itinerary! The food here is absolutely incredible, and the service follows suit! The workers are very personable, and the restaurant is kept super clean. We've never missed our stop by pigmans when we visit the obx every year, and often swing by more than once! If you are visiting the area, or a local looking for some delicious southern bbq, pigmans is definitely worth checking out! :)

Google
Really mixed on this one. Good pork, really good fried shrimp, good fries, okay slaw, didn't care for the baked beans, okay hush puppies, did not care for the BBQ sauces. Nothing particularly bad on the service, but not up to OBX standards. The food was cooked well, okay prices, my tastes are just not down this alley. Won't highly recommend, but I won't say don't go. For me, been there done that, but if I wanted fried shrimp, I'd stop for a shrimp and fries.

Google
Stopped here for lunch and it was amazing! All of the meat was super juicy and delicious. The pork sandwich was a favorite of ours. Lots of fun bbq sauce options as well. Everything was affordable and service was very fast!

Google
Delicious pulled pork with carolina style BBQ sauce. The hush puppies it comes with were also very tasty. I didn't care too much for the beans (needed more flavor) or the slaw (little on the sweet side). The mac and cheese was so good and worth the extra $. I didn't understand why a bottle of water is the same price as a soda, but overall the prices are decent. Easy to order at the counter, than they call your number and bring the food to the table you picked. Plenty of parking. Plenty of extra condiments and sauces you can grab on the side. Food came out fasst. Good spot if you're in the mood for BBQ.

Google
Food was okay. Prices were a competitive to similar places in the area. Portions were good. The sauce pig was fun and kind of a draw to the restaurant. Sauces were tasty. Atmosphere was loud because it was one, large open room. Servers were friendly but one was so loud. She wasn't talking she was almost screaming to guys in the kitchen and to other workers. Just super loud and off-putting.

Google
Great bbq. Loved the variety of sauces. Very friendly service and food came out quickly. Only one complaint, didn’t love the coleslaw. Everything else was great. We devoured everything we got.

Google
Took a family trip to Kitty Hawk this Memorial Day weekend. We did a lot of walking, so around dinner time we got pretty hungry. My son Googled what North Carolinaers eat, and BBQ was the top response based on his search. Then we googled, which was the best BBQ place in the Outer Banks, and Pigman's got the most stars. I am a big guy on polite, and the folks here were quite hospitable to us hungry New Yorkers. We felt welcome both as we entered and as we departed. The food was delicious . I loved their sauce station.

Yelp
This was a delicious stop for dinner. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The sauces were great and I love the self service station shaped like a pig. lol! The food was so good and the service was super fast. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food...pork bbq was flavorful and tender. Coleslaw well chilled and tasty..baked beans good q flavor kinda tangy.. So, I'm not a big vinegar bbq fan, for some reason it makes me cough and sneeze...so I tried Cheryl's secret sauce, a white base, and regular, well separately I couldn't do it! Don't get me wrong it was good, but b/c I cough I couldn't enjoy it...sooo....I'm weird like this i mixed the 2 together and it was really good!! I still prefer mustard based sauce, but I would not pass up the chance to eat here again! To be honest, no additional sauce is needed!!!! Service was outstanding! The lady at the counter so friendly, offered suggestions, knows her product! You order and pickup at the counter, serve yourself drinks, sauces etc..clear your table.. Ok, restaurant is loud especially with large parties, kids and music..

Yelp
Stopped by to try this bbq. We wanted to compare to KC bbq. Probably biased but I'd prefer KC bbq but this place was pretty good. Food came out quick and service was good. Delivered our meals to the table. There is a spot to try all their bbq sauces which is very unique. Rib Roarin' we like the most.

Yelp
Ordered a catering/large order for a family trip- Janet was so quick to respond and put our order together on just a week's notice. Everything was ready on time and the beef was definitely the biggest hit. Highly recommend if you have a gathering you need some BBQ for!

Luca S.

Yelp
I'll try to start with some positives. The signage is cute. The menu is straight to the point. The food came out extremely quickly (maybe a little too quickly). It's a relaxed, self-serve vibe. There's a unique "udder" self-serve dispenser for their range of barbecue sauces. My family and I were looking to switch things up from the seafood we've been having this week. I have been on a barbecue kick lately and was extremely excited to try what I thought would be an incredible, authentic, barbecue spot. After eating here, I have NO CLUE how this place has lasted 40 years on the OBX. It may have ruined barbecue food for me. I ordered a half rack of ribs, a side of mac and cheese, and a side of coleslaw. The girl at the counter put my order into the system incorrectly, charging me for an entire half rack of ribs "plate" which comes with beans (that I didn't want), hush puppies (that I didn't want), and coleslaw (that I had already ordered as a side). Not sure why there were no clarifying questions. The girl seemed to struggle to understand our orders. There is a "boat" section on the menu, described as sandwiches. The three people I was with each ordered one, expecting sandwiches. The chicken tender boat is not a sandwich. It's just tenders. The fried shrimp boat is also not a sandwich. It's just fried shrimp. The girl at the counter input the fried shrimp boat incorrectly (which should come with fries and hush puppies), only putting in fried shrimp à la carte. Not a huge deal, they brought out the sides after we said something. The ribs were bad. The color of the meat was off putting. You could see a yellow sheen on the surface and the inside was grey. The texture of the meat was gelatinous and bouncy. There was an overwhelming amount of fat. I took two bites before giving up and making everyone in my party try it. It was a negative experience for everyone. We threw what is pictured away. The barbecue sauce was terrible. Not sure how you can mess that up as a barbecue restaurant, but of the six offered sauces, only one was remotely close to a classic barbecue flavor (but was too sweet). All the other sauces tasted like straight vinegar- extremely sour. The pork barbecue boat (which actually does come as the advertised sandwich) was so sour due to the vinegar-based barbecue sauce. I couldn't tolerate it, but luckily the person who ordered it was able to get through it by adding copious amounts of the sweet barbecue sauce (which I believe Pigman's call their "Cock" sauce for whatever reason). I got Starry as my drink from the self-serve soda machine. It tasted like dirty cafeteria soda, as if the machine needed a cleaning or the Starry had somehow gone bad. The experience spiraled so badly that we ended up hysterically laughing at the cards we were dealt. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone in any scenario. Get some ribs from Food Lion or something if you want barbecue food. At least the workers were nice!

Yelp
Went to a dinner party with a "catered" (to go) meal from Pigman's. Got to the party late (work) and the food had gotten cold; what few tastes I had were okay, so I decided to try lunch. First of all, it's a totally self-serve place. No metal untesils, no glass/plastic cups; you order at the counter, get your own setups and drinks, and wait for your food to come out of the kitchen. I had pulled pork and BBQ chicken. Pork is vinegar based, chicken is sugar based BBQ sauce. Sides were cole slaw (meh)and collards (collards had so many stems I thought green beans were mixed in! With plastic utensils I was unable to cut into the one-piece half of chicken. I asked to speak to management to explain all of this, the owner would not come out to speak, just offered a coupon for a pork sandwich, it's a one-room, hard surfaced, loud room...not at all inviting. Know you know, good luck.

Yelp
I hate to say it but everything was super dry yet also somehow hella greasy. we got takeout so unclear how that effected everything ribs were bone dry like jerky- heavy smoke flavor but that's it *** half chicken- this was good , kinda greasy. they forgot my sauce in the order collards- bit rubbery. peppery but good mac and cheese - greaseball *** potato salad- enjoyed this thoroughly *** hush puppies- surprisingly winner maybe my favorite item coleslaw- super bland and forgettable beans - way too sweet, one note green beans - greasy and acidic banana pudding - fine, mid sad but the food just wasn't good ... we were so pumped and fell silent when eating when we were ready to rave about them
google avatar

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Probably should let the customers know that it is a vinegar based cooked BBQ .. Absolutely ZERO smoke flavor and is dripping( I would like to say juices) but it was more of a watery substance which soaked into the bun and dripped everywhere. They have a sauce bar and you guessed it ... also vinegar based no matter what you choose. Oh and the coleslaw that had a lot of vinegar flavor also. They might want to mention that the sandwiches come with a side of slaw so you don't need to buy a side of it and end up having more slaw on your table than BBQ meat on the bun. Service It was just okay. I ended up across the street at McDonalds... in case you can't guess ....I won't be back but I am sure they will continue to do just fine since they have been around for a good minute or two.

Yelp
Pigman BBQ has quickly become a family favorite of ours! The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the service comes with that unmistakable southern charm. We ordered a meal for our family of 7, and it was ready for pickup in just 10 minutes. In a wonderful display of attentiveness, the cashier even ran out to the parking lot with our receipt when we accidentally left without it. The food itself is everything you want from a BBQ joint. Their NC-style vinegar-based BBQ sauce is a standout--tangy and bold--but they also offer a variety of other bases if you're craving something more traditional. The sides are just as delicious as the mains! Creamy mac & cheese, hush puppies with honey butter, cole slaw, and baked beans--all perfectly complementing the slow-cooked, brined-to-perfection meats. Every bite was packed with flavor and juiciness. Dine in and order at the counter or carry out - can't go wrong with either. T-shirts and goods to purchase in house.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great food, and a nice atmosphere. We went for lunch and had some excellent bbq. I ordered the half chicken, which came with baked beans, coleslaw, and hush puppies. The wife ordered the pulled pork, Mac and cheese, collard greens, and hush puppies. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be returning for some great food.

Yelp
Great sweet potato fries! I get them every Sunday as my splurge. The sauces are wonderful.

Yelp
Yummy bbq Great service. Really unique place. I men look at my picture. lol I never milked a pig before!!!!

Yelp
Ribs were so tough you couldn't even pull them apart. BBQ beef was so mushy it had no texture. Everything was horribly greasy.

Yelp
The half chicken and sweet fries were outstanding! Great customer service & dog friendly establishment. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Looking for a place due to busy sit down restaurants in area. Got there just in time before the dinner rush. Food was really good and kiddos liked their meals too. Very quick for a busy Summertime beach rush and still had great seating inside. Would recommend for a great BBQ spot.

Yelp
BBQ was moist and yummy. Nice seating area. Busy local area for BBQ and more. Easy access. Great service. Friendly staff

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal at Pigmans! I got the half rack of ribs, they had the perfect smoky flavor and just fell off the bone! My Fiancé got the pulled pork - it was so flavorful and juicy, and the serving portion was very generous! For sides we got baked beans, mac & cheese, potato salad, and cornbread. The mac & cheese was my favorite side, it was sooo creamy and delicious. The cornbread was also amazing - it had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. And the potato salad was a great refreshing contrast to the heavier meat and sides. What's even better is that the price was totally reasonable, especially for the quality of food that we got. Overall, I would definitely recommend Pigmans BBQ to anyone in the area who is looking for some amazing BBQ.

James W.

Yelp
Food is still good but prices are way up as sandwich looks like a mini. Pork sandwich was 7.99 just the sandwich and very small compared to before. I was shocked how small the pork sandwich is now. I've gone there for many years but not will to pay the ridiculous prices they have now.

Bethany L.

Yelp
The owner greeted us and talked us through how he made everything. Homemade sauces and sides! Tried the bbq tuna, ribs and pork- all had great smoke and cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese was creamy, homemade and my daughter couldn't stop eating it! Food came out quick even though the place was crowded.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Food was ok, pork bbq sandwich and tuna-q were good. None of the sides we got were very good (collards, potato salad, mac and cheese), mostly just lacked flavor. Service was good, its an order at the counter and seat yourself kind of place, so no complaints there. Overall just an okay experience.

Yelp
Awesome. The BBQ was super tasty. A very unique experience of having of "milking" the sauce.

Yelp
We have been to the Outer Banks many times and have driven by Pigman's and never stopped. Today we did and I am glad we did !! You order at the front, they call your number and bring your food out to your table. Easy peasy. The guys at the register were super friendly and helpful. Hubby and I both got the pulled pork plate. It came with pork, slaw, baked beans, hush puppies and we were surprised by the roll. The food came out very quickly. We were both surprised by the quantity of the pork we each got. Hush puppies were right on point. They have a number of different bbq sauces you can choose from. I was disappointed that the "spicy" sauce was not spicy at all. We each had enough pork left (and a bun) for lunch tomorrow. We even saved enough slaw for tomorrow's lunch. The slaw was slightly on the mayonnaise heavy side. In general, this place should not be passed up. The chicken and ribs also looked good. Give them a try, you will be glad you did.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Bought dinner for 12+ people and it was awesome! Different style bbq than im used to, but it was delicious and not a bit was wasted. The hushpuppies and honey butter are worth buying on their own! We had 5 pounds of the pulled pork and 2 racks of ribs. Sorry, no pics, we just started feasting as soon as it arrived.

Bob C.

Yelp
Hadn't been here for years. As good as always. When our kids were young we went when the pig was outside. This time was with kids and four grandkids. A little small but good food.

John T.

Yelp
We've been going to Pigman's for many years because we love it. Yesterday, we get there and find the fried okra no longer on the menu, no explanation and their best side just gone. Then, the half-chicken which looked more like a Cornish hen in size, and the beans and slaw portions much smaller than usual. We arrived around 7:30 and it's possible this had something to do with it. Thankfully, I had invited some of our guests but they didn't come. We'll return on our next visit but if it's similar to this experience, we won't be back. Hopefully, ownership hasn't changed and last night was just an aberratio.
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
Not sure why this so highly rated. We had a relatively large group (7 people) and we all got different stuff and shared. While some of it was pretty good, most of it was mediocre at best. At the table we agreed that if it were to get a letter grade, it be either a C or a C+ all around. The locals seems to like it, tho...

Christine F.

Yelp
Food is always good here!! Pulled pork, hush puppies, fries, coleslaw all delicious and people working there always friendly!! Come here every time we come down !

Yelp
last Friday Danielle and i had lunch at Pigman's and we both thought it was really good. we each had the pulled pork plate (pulled pork sandwich w/ fries and hushpuppies). the pork was moist with lots of vinegar based mop sauce. in fact, i decided to have a second. each sandwich came w/ a little tiny cup of coleslaw that was perfect on the sandwiches. the hushpuppies were didn't taste like the hushpuppies i'm used to but were great when dipped in one of the 5 sauces available at the sauce station. Danielle and i preferred the Cock Sauce (i didn't name it), which is a sweet - almost Thai Chili-like sauce I'm told is used w/ chicken and the Cheryl's Secret Sauce (Alabama White Sauce). neither is intended for pork (rather chicken for each) but they were great on the sandwiches nonetheless. i added a side of baked beans. they were good but a little too rich for my tastes (too much molasses). lastly, Danielle bought some pork rinds which were also really good and were a nice snack on our 12-hour drive home. check it out if in the area. if not in the area, they have a web site from which you can order sauces.

Gail T.

Yelp
We have been going for years to Pigman's and enjoyed the consistent quality of food. Today the food was subpar and almost not edible. The portions very small and the half of chicken was the size of Cornish hen (small). The staff very friendly and service quick. Hush puppies not worth the calories. We will not return and we are here often.

Boyce L.

Yelp
Hello. We have had many meals from your establishment. I must say that this meal was a huge disappointment. The recipes for everything has changed. The beans could have been poured out of a can, the pork, while well cooked, was devoid of smoke or flavor. The Cole slaw was non descript. I have read that the original owner is no longer running the restaurant. I do not understand why you would take a successful business built on the seasoning and flavors of the founder and change everything. The sauces, except for the spicy, were so vinegar heavy that no other flavor came through. The spicy...wasn't. Your restaurant was one of the first places we headed when arriving on the OBX...what a huge disappointment.

Yelp
The mac and cheese was great and heated up well later! The staff were amazing. Another customer there had a very small baby and several staff came out to meet the baby lol it was very sweet! Another staff came around with a bucket of leftover Halloween candy (it was November 2nd lol) The restaurant is also charmingly decorated inside and out!
google avatar

Megan P.

Yelp
Pigmans BBQ - always fresh, juicy, delicious, flavorful, and hot! It's hard to find a restaurant in the OBX where you can order your food, get your drink and food, and sit down all within 5 minutes. Will definitely be returning for some more great food!
google avatar

Megan T.

Yelp
Amazing food all around, everyone I was with enjoyed their meals. Service is quick and you have sauces available at your convenience. Definitely will come back for the ribs and corn bread! 10/10 recommend

Yelp
This is a family friendly, casual BBQ place with flavorful ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Self serve bbq sauces were yummy. Staff was welcoming and happy to engage with customers.

Libby ..

Yelp
Service was quick. Our food was out before we got our sauces. Pork was tasty. Lots of options to support your experience like banana pudding.

Yelp
Great bbq and very pleasant folks! A special thanks for the treat for our four legged companion while we awaited our carry out order!
google avatar

Valerie V.

Yelp
I feel they're reasonable priced and portions are plentiful. You have a choice of a variety of bbq sauces. They didn't disappoint on flavor at all, everything was delicious.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Nice service. Not limiting capacity but still felt comfortable. Got the pork plate. They portion is large! The hushpuppies were excellent (no onions or chunks of anything inside them). The pork tasted good but seemed oily, not greasy but like oil was on it. The bbq sauces were all very good. The fries were ok. The cole slaw didn't have any flavor at all - tasted like raw chopped cabbage. Not my favorite but maybe that's the style here. The baked beans were good but they did have chopped onions in them. I saw some other customers with the baked chicken, which looked good. My husband had the bbq beef which he said was ok. The meat did have good smoky flavor. If you're hankering for bbq it will fit the bill but it's just not the kind we're used to in NC.

Paul W.

Yelp
Food is always amazing I go here every year when I'm vacationing obx never disappoints

Yelp
We ordered dinner ahead of time as we were on our way to Frisco. Why? Because Pigman's is the BEST. BBQ in OBX! Pulled beef and pork and all of the sides were delicious. Fun atmosphere in side and we were greater with a want welcome to pick up take out. We felt like a valued customer. I even left a tip and was thanked which doesn't happen anymore. Cannot wait to visit again
google avatar

Yelp
Got the piglet for a family of 9 more than enough food. Food was very tasteful and piping hot. Bake beans were really well cooked. Hush puppies were the talk of the table with the honey butter.

Yelp
This was not the best BBQ in town. We ordered Pigman's Barbeque for the whole family (8 people, 1 kid). We usually order Sooeys BBQ and decided to give another BBQ restaurant a shot during this years vacation to OBX. For the meats we ordered 2 Ibs of pulled Pork BBQ, 3 Ibs of pulled Beef BBQ, and a Full Rack of Spare Ribs. -Pulled Pork BBQ: The pulled pork was decent but nothing amazing. It lacked the bbq smokey flavor and a noticeable amount of fat. Adding any additional bbq sauce did not help the taste and had a weird porky smell to it. -Pulled Beef BBQ: the pulled beef taste was also just okay. It is not common for a bbq place to pull brisket so I was surprised that they did not offer traditional brisket. The bbq flavor taste was better with the pulled beef but I was not amazed. -Whole Slab of Ribs: these didn't look like they were grilled or smoked...more like boiled. I wish these ribs were tender and fall of the bone. It was hard to bite into the ribs. My 6 year old had to use a knife to cut the meat off the bone because he could not bite it off. The flavor and bbq sauce for the ribs were great though. Sides: -Cornbread: We ordered a half sheet of cornbread. The cornbread is on the sweeter side! Soft, buttery, and delicious for my family to enjoy. Not sure if the honey butter is already on the bread or comes on the side. We didn't receive any on the side for our carry out order. -Mac and Cheese: we ordered 2 Ibs of Mac and Cheese. This looked like Panera's Mac and Cheese with white cheddar cheese, but didn't taste quite like it. This was just okay and a good filler between the meats. -Hushpuppies: I'm used to hushpuppies being round or an oval shape. These turned out like little mini fingers. Anything fried has to be good, but these were underwhelming. No flavor and a lot of grease dripped off as you bit into the dough. -Coleslaw: We ordered an 8 oz side of coleslaw. The coleslaw had a nice crunch and refreshing taste with the bbq. Had a hint of celery and the slaw is heavier on the mayonnaise. There was miscommunication regarding the brisket. We didn't know this was pulled beef and expected smoked brisket as a cut. When we called Pigmans Barbeque back to confirm our order, the lady on the phone was condescending, passive, and rude. The service was subpar and the inside of this restaurant looked divey. Overall, I think my family will need to stick to our go-to barbecue restaurant called Sooey's BBQ that's just a few more miles down the road. Even though this place is a little cheaper for the food, the quality is not great and lacking flavor.

Yelp
Very good food . Plenty of different sauces to try out , something for everyone here . Pricing is reasonable for being at the beach as well . I would go back .

Sharon T.

Yelp
Starting from when you drive up , the outside brings a smile with lots of fun paintings / wood photo opts. You walk in to Happy Smiling Staff , Very clean tables and floors and the Glorious smell of BBQ . The price for product and portion is very affordable and delicious! The pork and half chicken very nicely seasoned and juicy ! The Baked beans are advertised as vegetarian, and they have a great flavor ! The hush puppies are made with a sweet corn meal - trust the process and dip it in the whipped butter provided , you'll be asking for more ! We took the cookies togo and they were perfect soft cookies with plenty of the additives of chocolate chips / nuts.

Tom F.

Yelp
Great bbq sandwich and delicious chicken tenders. Fun sauce dispenser and tasty sweet tea.

Yelp
Let's just start off by saying Juliana is the best... came down and told us the specials, what's good, how the meat is cooked, the whole nine yards... the girls a GEM! The food, just as good as Juliana's service. A+ and will be back ASAP!

Sean R.

Yelp
The service was nice. The food not so great. I did like the tuna but the pulled pork, ribs, and chicken was more like fast food. The Mac n cheese taste like its from the frozen section and the potatoes salad is the same as you get from food lion. I have eaten bbq all over and this is not true pride in your meat. Maybe it was originally but very disappointing after paying so much.

Yelp
(This one is a bit from the archives as the visit took place in early June. While a few details have been lost to the sands of time the general gist is accurate.) A few years back I worked with a guy who was born and raised in Grandy and when I started coming down to OBX he swore up and down that this place had the best BBQ and/or ribs in the area. I don't play with my food which means that for me ribs are out and Pigman's does not keep hours during Christmas week which is when our past visits occurred. So this time in season was the perfect chance to finally give this place a go. The set up is nearly identical to going to a chain place like Mission BBQ. Walk up to the register, place your order then they bring it to your table when it's ready. I don't know if they always bring it to your table but with only one other occupied table at 6ish on a Tuesday in June they brought ours out. Turkey-Que Boat - Pork BBQ Sandwich - Pork BBQ Plate - Half Rack Rib Plate I had the turkey and it was very, very good. The meat was tender and the sauce they use has a very good flavor. Speaking of Mission BBQ, I prefer their Bay-B-Que sauce to anything I sampled at Pigman's but that's just me and I don't know jack about BBQ. The thing I was most surprised about was that the bun for the sandwich didn't fall apart. The portion size here is not small, the food is messy and the bun does not look sturdy but it held up a-ok. Two brief sidebars. One is that for me the hushpuppies are just...no. Words like greasy and foul come to mind. And to think that they give you some buttery spread to slather on top of them as if that makes anything better. Just. No. Another no for me would be the sweet tea. I really, really hate sweet tea but the guy at the counter was busting my balls that I should try it and that he made it himself and that it was the best I would ever have. Maybe so but it still tastes like shitty sugar water. Thanks, but no thanks. Everyone who ate enjoyed their food with the best in class being the half rack of ribs. I was told that they were fantastic in terms of texture and flavor. Overall Pigman's isn't bad. Some of the pricing is definitely on the high/beach/tourist side but you certainly do not get cheated in terms of portions as they are very generous. In the future I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here but every time we're in the area we always stop at Nags Head Woods Preserve which means driving right by here so we'll more than likely be back.
