I went to Pike Place Bakery last week and I was quickly reminded why I don't go there more often.
Picture two women behind the counter. Now, picture them ignoring you. That's pretty much what happened to me. Again. Basically, my child wanted donuts and they looked really, really, really good. I was on the north side of the counter. Woman #1 was helping someone on the other side. Woman #2 was standing in front of the counter where I was - looking right at me. As I began to say something to her, Woman #2 moved deeper into the depths of her space. Strike one. Okay, fine. I decided to go to the other side of the counter, you know, where Woman #1 was. As I neared the counter, Woman #1 walked towards the back of the space to talk to Woman #2. Strike two. After that, they proceeded to talk and finally we had to say something. Strike three. Honestly, if my child didn't want something, I would have left.
I have to admit that I am baffled. In my experience, bakers and those who work at bakeries in Seattle have always been super friendly. I would settle for plain old, everyday friendly from these ladies. I'm sure they don't need my money as they must do brisk business (there was no one there besides my group and the one other person that was helped before us).
In terms of the product, the baked goods are very good and come at a reasonable price. Many people rave about the Texas sized donuts but I've never had occasion for one quite that big. The selection is wide an varied and surely has something anyone would love.
Sadly, I'd rather spend twice as much money for a decent product and acceptable levels of customer service. I guess it will be another six months before I try Pike Place Bakery again.
