Everything Pilgrim does is so well thought out and high quality. Yes, it's a bit more expensive to initially buy gear here but not in the long run as it outlives other gear and is stylish. What a treat to see the new space! Great job all around and wonderful to finally see one of Williamsburgs most beautiful buildings find its match.

Google
Great store! Lots of high end active lifestyle items. I got a pair of hiking shoes that were a bit big when I tried them on at home, they exchanged it for 1/2 size smaller with no problem! Really appreciate the service!

Google
Every piece of clothing that I own from here becomes my new favorite shirt, pant, sweater, or whatever it is. All the details are well thought out - understated, easy, delightful, and really well made. When you visit the store, there is always some vinyl treasure playing alongside the burning pine incense. Pilgrim might just be the coolest store in town.

Some people are complaining about the customer service of this place but I'm only left thinking they're walking into Pilgrim with a stank ass energy and bad vibes. The staff are subtle and intelligent, kind and pleasant too. They're not going to ram products down your throat and kiss your ass like some of the other retailers do in the neighborhood. It's refreshing and a very peaceful shopping experience. This place has a human and personal vibe with incredible music playing at all times. Pilgrim has a pulse. Its not some gift wrapped manufactured box brand type of experience. The owner Chris is an extremely personal and hospitable person with a wild wealth of knowledge about all things culture, art, music and surfing. Make no mistakes if you walk into this store and walk out feeling like you didn't have a good experience it's because YOU suck and has nothing to do with anyone else.

Google
Pilgrim is truly a gem! Their attention to detail is impeccable, making every shopping experience delightful. The store offers an impressive selection of high-quality brands, each chosen with care. From the moment you walk in, the friendly and knowledgeable staff make you feel welcome and valued. The layout is thoughtfully designed, ensuring you can easily find what you're looking for. Whether you're searching for Surf specific piece or timeless classics, Pilgrim has it all.

Google
I work within arms reach of this shop & always walk by there on lunch breaks so I figured to pop by last week & wow..the unwelcoming feeling you get from their staff when entering here is mind blowing considering their insanely high price points for products. A “luxury” aesthetic + no staff interaction + condescending staff responses≠ luxury retail experience Sad considering how nice the store is designed. Suggestion to management: If you want clients / customers / the Brooklyn community to continue giving your place business at the high prices you’re offering- reassess how your giving them a full customer experience with the people that you have on payroll

This shop is cool and I’ve bought a board here in the past. Owner is super nice. But wow, I went in the other day and no one said hello to me. The shop was completely dead. Just my partner and I. Browsed through boards for 5 minutes then went to the front to look at the other boards. The 2 staff members were at the front desk and didn’t even acknowledge me. It got awkward and I decided to leave. This is the crazy part. On my way out, I said “thank you” in a nice voice as I always do and the lady at the front desk just looked at me without saying anything. SO PRETENTIOUS! And look, I never expect great customer service anywhere. But when you’re paying these markups, you want to feel good about it. It’s so surprising that they acted like this and it’s way different from the vibes at the old location. I love my pinder that I got from here but I’m definitely going to stop bragging about where I got it from.

Google
Both humored and blown away but the utter lack of customer service. My husband and I walked in, two staff were in the back at register. Didn’t say anything to us. I walked to the back and said hello then proceeded to ask some questions about the surfboards and surf spots in the area. They barely responded. Such a shame that this sweet shop has stale employees!

Yelp
Just had a very pleasant shopping experience here. Clothing was more than I am willing to pay, but somehow I scored some really comfy sandals and a great pair of sunglasses for a fair price. The store smelled great and salesperson remarkably devoid of 'tude. Check it out!

Yelp
Every big city with a surf scene needs that one surf shop that probably makes more money selling imported Japanese clothing than they do on actual surfboards. Pilgrim is that shop for NYC, and their presence on the scene has helped put New York a little more firmly on the surf world's map. Do I want to pay $300 for hand-sewn linen pants made by some kind of fisherman-painter who lives in a van? Not often. But sometimes you can get an end of season sale that makes the clothes more affordable. And they're certainly nice clothes. As for the surfboards... they're expensive as well. They're pretty much all hand-shaped and they cost about double the price of a big-name board from Channel Islands or Lost or whatever. But it's kinda nice having these expensive hipster boards circulating around the NYC area because it means those of us who aren't rich can grab them on the resale market when the original tech/finance bro buyers inevitably lose interest. And they're nice boards, for sure. Just note that not all the employees actually know that much about surfboards. They can all help you with the basics but beyond a certain point they'll need to refer you to one of the resident experts. Anyway: I give them five stars, because I only buy their stuff on sale or second-hand... but I'm glad to have it around.

Yelp
What a cool store! They have such cool decorations, the garments are fun and the staff is really nice. I recommend you check this out next time you are shopping for mens wear in Brooklyn.

Yelp
Have been in the store a couple times and have also spoken to a number of the team members on the phone. Incredibly helpful, never pushy, and very well versed in terms of what you need to surf in New York. Also carry top of the line boards and equipment.

Avrami R.

Yelp
This store has some beautiful clothing designed in Japan. They've been in Williamsburg for a Long Time. Their Mens shirts are particularly nice. The stocking of the store is rather poor. Half the time they were looking up sizing and inventory in back room and on computer. They have lots on display, however. The staff is not the best, but not the worst either. They are not asshats but also not charmers. The experience of them constantly looking up sizing starts to feel moronic. The store is clean and well decorated and has surfish music playing. The Mens shirts are very unique. About the same prices as Theory. Worth checking out. Would Spend much more there if prices were more reflective of a chill surf shop and not a major label line. The expectation of the total Due when checking out, given just dropping in, is not consistent with reality. This place is located in Brooklyn, not on Madison Avenue, and albeit a boutique, Pilgrim as a brand should understand their market. The current pricing reflects Impeccable Staff, Good Stocking, and Location on Madison Ave. Really the only thing they have going for them now is their Designer in Japan.

Michael A.

Yelp
NEVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! I ordered a t-shirt for $61.00 dollars, was too small; also did not like the "Beefy-Tee" style neck line. Called them up to return it for a refund and was to find out that they do not refund your money. Only store credit or exchanges. Can you believe that in this day and age? So again a WARNING - Do not order from them!

Yelp
I've had a similar experience to most reviewers on here. It's a hipster surf shop that's trying to make it in Brooklyn by overcharging for clothing, surfboards, and accessories. Initially I was okay with that concept (support your local surf shop) but... I dropped off a board for repair. It took much longer than I was told and the final price was significantly more than the estimate. I was given an adequate explanation. Basically a new area of delam was noted which was not reflected in the initial estimate and was repaired. That's fine I just wish someone had shot me an email so we could have discussed (that's what my auto mechanic does). Next time I need a repair however I will probably go to a different shaper (one that communicates and repairs on a faster than 5 week timeline). Support your local surf shop but understand it's limitations.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Big talking shaper on staff, Joe Falcone. Repair work was fine, but average. The rating is a result of the price, time for repair and disproportionate quality. Didn't help that JF talked himself up as the best shaper in town... Aegir has better value on repairs, but their issue is never being open on time...that's how I ended up here.

Yelp
I live by the beach in LA and thought for sure one thing we'd have over Brooklyn is our supply of surf shops. I guess I was wrong! Though I heard nary a wave crash in Williamsburg or anyone walking around in wetsuits, I guess surf fashion and culture is relevant even all the way over here. The place is spotless and small, packed with stylish if quite pricey items from tees to shoes to hats to books and surf boards and bags. Some of the clothing seemed way overpriced to me, but then they had more reasonable accessories, so if you do some digging you can probably find something reasonably priced. The people who work there are really helpful and enthusiastic about their wares and are willing to help you pick something out if you're feeling spendy or just leave you alone to browse if that's what you want. A chic, modern approach to bringing surf gear to the area... I approve, though I can't necessarily afford!

Yelp
By surfers, of surfers, for hipsters. Chris Gentile, formerly of Mollusk NYC fame, has opened a swank new shop around the corner in the footprint of an old motorcycle repair shop. Being smack in the heart of Williamsburg, you get the feeling that the shop is curated more toward surf fashion than actual surfing. Pilgrim must walk a fine line between profitability and beach cred, so the stockroom lacks the kind of depth that would make it a mecca for the more hardcore Rockaway/Montauk types. But that's easily forgiven, somehow. As any conversation with the staff there will prove, there's no doubt this place is run by knowledgeable NY local surfers, who know the tools of their trade. Still, I'd much rather check out the wetsuits and booties (even handplanes!!) at this "local" shop, than venture into Soho or Union Square to find quality gear. And really, anything that promotes surfing in NYC is a step in the right direction, in this reviewer's humble opinion. Happy hurricane season, dudes.

Yelp
Not enough women's clothing but two words...Neoprene Bikinis. I love the look of the store and there are plenty of options for men and a nice sized collection of surfboards and gear.
google avatar

Yelp
Yes, the clothing is way over priced and I would never spend my money that way but their gear and other random stuff has standard pricing. I got my wetsuit here, also some fins and I pick up wax every once in a while. Its a fancy pants yuppy surf shop, and thats ok. It is what it is. All the people that work there have been nothing but friendly to me but I also don't ask dumb questions about stuff I know Im not gonna buy. The 5 stars is because its a shop that serves me a great purpose and its very clear what it is. I like that and will continue to support them as I understand you gotta sell some $300 shirts in order to keep a surf shop open in the middle of brooklyn. People buy boards only so often and Im sure they aren't making much money on them either as they cost a lot to make and you can only make so much on $3 wax and $25 leashes here and there. thanks pilgrim, your ok in my book. besides that one time one of your employees dropped in on me on 65th. I ran into him on the wave and we both went down. Was all laughs mostly, but still that guy can suck a fat one.

Yelp
Very helpful and organized. Future of surfing is here! I love diversity in Brooklyn this is a shop to check out to be unique and stand out from the rest. Thank you for the business
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
Just bought a board here. Super thoughtful and helpful. As first time buyer they really took their time to explain how and wear to use to the board and how to care for it. Agree with Daniel G on surf shop that sells surf gear, big contrast to other places in the city like Saturdays.

Yelp
I shop here all the time BC their merchandizing is great and they have awesome men/women's clothing and accessories BUT that is all about to change. Less than 2 weeks ago i purchased 2 great bathing suits from them. When i went back in today for some more i was informd they were all 50% off. Naturally i asked to be compensated the difference since I just spent $400 on the same suits not even 2 weeks prior. I was told that the manager won't approve it. I would have even taken store credit! This makes no sense since i can simply return the suits i got and then repurchased them discounted but the manager wouldnt have it. I felt bad for the guy working who played messenger BC you could tell he was clearly embarrassed by his managers response. What kind of store policy is that? Any business that cares about their customers would honor this and I would have ended up buying more of their great stuff with the money! I turned around and walked out. This makes me feel rather disgusted with Pilgrim BC they are acting pompous in this neighborhood feeding to its rep. They just lost a very loyal customer.
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
I love pilgrim because they have a great atmosphere and lots of great product. I have gone there about 10 times and I haven't been able to purchase a great deal because the stuff is SO EXPENSIVE, where are these surfers getting $300 for a sweater! There is also this girl who works there with braids who is the least helpful person in the world, she definitely ruined my experience a few times I've been there and ask for help on stuff. The other two guys are super helpful and great.

Yelp
First and foremost, this place is a surf shop that sells surf gear. Over 2/3rds of their floor space is dedicated to surf and surf supplies. Superior customer service ... The staff guided me to getting a board that fit my needs based where I surf, skill level, and helped me the whole way through. If you're a beginner, total kook, or hardcore surfer who's been to every big wave location in the world, these guys can take care of you. High quality products ... This place doesn't sell junk. Very (VERY) high quality surf products ranging from boards, wetsuits, fins to surf clothing as well. I can see where the pricy comments come in, but you're shopping in Williamsburg. I promise you that whatever you buy here today is going to hold up just fine five years from now. Quality isn't cheap. Their staff actually gives a !@#$ ... I ended up ordering a custom board with these guys. They went above and beyond to keep me posted on what was going on with the board. They let me know when the order was with the shaper, when the shaper was done, when it was getting glassed, and even emailed me the minute the board came into the shop so I could surf it that weekend. Not much else I can say. To drop names, Eric and Christian are both A+ dudes who went above and beyond for me when I was buying a board. I will gladly continue to support this place.

jeff s.

Yelp
This is one of the best spots in Williamsburg, hands down. Great for a local surf shop and the store has some of the best clothes anywhere around. Do yourself a favor and go, yes it's a bit more $$ than J crew...... sure it is. they nailed it !! The Staff is super helpful and really nice

Liam O.

Yelp
Really good boutique selection of boards and products, albeit quite over-priced. The staff are always very welcoming and the design/layout of the store is really nice. If I ever become rich enough i'll definitely want to shop here to fill-out my quiver. For now its just a handy place to swing by when you're in need of the essentials like wax, incense, booties, beanies etc.

M M.

Yelp
I love this store! I started shopping here a while back for my husband and more recently for myself. Over the past year they launched their Pilgrim womenswear line which I adore. I would buy every piece if I could! The staff at Pilgrim have always been extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. While I'm not a surfer myself, I have overheard conversations in the store over the years and the staff are really dedicated, knowledgable and passionate about what they do. Pilgrim's commitment to quality and craftsmanship really shows not only in their line but through the brands they represent.

Yelp
If I could give these purveyors of surfing equipment and apparel negative stars I would do so without a second thought. The sales people seem to have no skill or previous experience in customer service. The knowledge about the equipment is minimal and the prices are ridiculously high. In short, if there was ever a list of reasons to shop online, Pilgrim Surf + Supply should be at the very top. My personal experience in the "joy" that is shopping at Pilgrim began in January 2015 when my fiancé decided to surprise me with a custom surf board for my birthday. We were told at the time of placing the order that the board would most likely be delivered in April, but would arrive no later than May 2015. When June arrived, with no word from Pilgrim about the status of my order, we decided to stop in and see if they had an updated timeline for delivery. Not only did the sales person not have any idea of when my order would be delivered, they even had a hard time finding my order or if it had been placed. We were told to call or come back later. After several calls regarding the status of the order we finally got ahold of the "manager" who informed us that the order was in fact placed, but he had no real idea of when it would be delivered. He said it would "most likely" be in by July 15th and that we would be contacted when it was being shipped by the shaper. The big day came and went with no contact from a sales person or the "manager". I emailed the manager to explain my situation and see if they had any updated on the status of my order. I had no reply, so I tried calling several times with no luck. Finally, on July 22nd, I was told that my board had actually arrived that day and I could come pick it up. Thanks for the follow up and awesome customer service. I went to go pick up my board the next day. I was told it was a beautiful board (as it truly was) and that one of the sales people had almost sold it that morning to another customer, before realizing that it was a custom order when they rang it up. That would have been great to come pick up my board after waiting 7 months and find out "oops" we sold it to another customer...again you can't beat that customer service. A few days later I decided that maybe I was just not being laid back enough. I went in to procure a leash and board bag for my new baby. They had a board bag that was a little too big but I was told that "no worries" if it didn't work out to just bring it back. In fact the bag was way too big and just not what I was looking for, so I took it back two days later. When checking out I was told that they don't give refunds they only exchange for store credit. No where in the store there is a sign that states this policy and the "helpful and knowledgable" staff do not inform you of this policy during check out. The only place you can see this policy is at the bottom of your receipt..AFTER YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE THE PURCHASE. So I can either keep the board bag that does not work or I can wait for them to order me one that would fit...delivery date TBD. All in all, I will never go back to Pilgrim Surf + Supply for anything. My fiancé can use my store credit on one of their over priced bikinis...

Yelp
Pilgrim rules! The staff is super friendly & knowledgeable. Was glad that there was no "hipster in-crowd" vibe like I've felt at other NYC surf shops. It's easy to get to off the Bedford L and the store itself is beautiful & clean. The prices were right and the vibes were great. I talked with some employees about the recent Hurricane Sandy devastation at Rockaway (Pilgrim was involved in the beach clean-up efforts) and got some great advice about CA surf spots near Santa Cruz. I know where I'm going to grab a board when the weather warms up!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Came across pilgrim after they did an event with vans and had Dane come out, which was pretty cool, but the place is super overpriced. $70 for a tee? Definitely more of a fashion boutique than a surf shop. If you want a surf shop check out breakwater in rockaway or the aiger guys in dumbo. Stop trying so hard hipsters!
google avatar

Graham O.

Yelp
Super overpriced "surf" shop built to sell overpriced t-shirts and surf themed apparel to people who don't know better but want to look like they enjoy fun things.

Lex K.

Yelp
Pilgrim Surf eventually reached out to me and refunded the defective purchase. Seems like they had some troubled employee(s). So, no harm, no foul. I am grateful for the professionalism. Look forward to visiting the store in person some day. All the best.
google avatar

Julia T.

Yelp
I came here to get some DaFins. I only saw 4 styles, but I have midget feet and they only had 1 pair in an XS. Anyways, the guys were super helpful. I didn't bother looking at the clothes. I'm just glad I didn't have to trek all the way into the city to look for these.

Steve F.

Yelp
Some cool goods but terrible staff. Five good looking "straight" guys who can't be bothered to do anything. I'll pay whatever for cool clothes, but not from these d-bags.

Matt M.

Yelp
I have to say this is the type of place that ruins Williamsburg for me. This place just reopened in a new address, its a nice clean designer surf shop but has no soul. The owner does not seem happy. The staff is not having a good time either. And the surfing fad, that's kind of over, right?
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
The products these guys stock are all great quality. The store it's self is epic, it's really well merchandised and looks sick . Don't come here wanting to buy cheap crap, you won't get it, but what you will get is solid quality goods. This said, the customer service ability of the employees who were in the store on the day I walked in last week was nothing short of trash. My local 711 guy is more friendly and does a better job of asking how my day is going. It's largely a missed opportunity for these guys to capitalize on. I wanted to buy a shirt and a Patagonia R3 suit. After no help with what I needed, I made the decision to walk out and shop else where, even after trying these items on. Gauging from the feedback on the net and the experiences some customers have had, change isn't a consideration for these guys. It's just feedback for pilgrim, pick up your game boys. On that note I'd recommend a trip to the Apple Store for some learnings.

Dan T.

Yelp
I've been to pilgrim many times and for the most part I've been treated friendly. However several weeks ago I went in to buy some shoes and to look at boards. I was kinda shocked how rude a certain employee was to me. He gave me such an attitude when I asked him a simple question about a particular surfboard. He was talking to me like I was a complete idiot and with such a "I'm so cool" attitude. I honestly wanted to punch him. Little does this prick know that I have been surfing, skating and snowboarding my whole life . I decided to buy those shoes somewhere else and recently spent $1,000 on a new longboard which I bought at a different store as well. It's a sad thing because I have spent a lot of money in this store in the past and because of one prick giving me an attitude I will never buy anything again from pilgrim.

Scherbert S.

Yelp
Very cool menswear brands including Battenwear and Norse Projects and I found the sales staff really helpful and fun. Pricey, but these labels would be pricey anywhere...
