Pillar & Post Hotel | Best places to stay in Niagara Falls

"The cultural flipside to the epic Niagara Falls experience is a 20-minute drive away on the historic streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake.  One of the best-preserved 19th towns in Canada, it’s a must-visit after the Falls, and the Pillar & Post – reminiscent of a British Victorian inn – distills the town’s charm into one lovely stay. The converted cannery building started life as a hotel decades ago, but seems older, with deep, distressed-leather seating, traditional tartan upholstery and mahogany four-poster beds in most rooms. Still, this is a holiday town, so you also get mod cons such as an in-house spa, with free access to the hot tubs and springs (treatments are extra) and full bar service at the indoor and outdoor pools. The Nouveau Canadian cuisine is a highlight – breakfast comes with locally cured bacon, Ontario maple syrup and a full juice bar. On arrival, the valet whisks away your car. In exchange, you can use the town shuttle, which makes regular stops at the surrounding wineries – so nobody has to drive. " - Ellen Himmelfarb

This hotel is set in a lovely location with beautiful grounds. The service was quite good and the staff were welcoming. I found the room to be tired looking and in need of an update. The bathroom door could have used a fresh coat of paint on the door, as it looked grubby. I expected much more given the cost of the room each night. We visited the outdoor pool on the first day and we couldn’t get a lounge chair for quite a while, as it was overcrowded. I was later informed that day passes are given to the local people to make use of the pool. The hotel should review their policy and give priority to its hotel guests. We were so turned off that we avoided the pool for the rest of our stay. The hotel did not seem to have an adequate number of parking spots to accommodate their guests. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and not what you would expect for a $400/night hotel. We will not be returning.

This is an amazing hotel. It is so cozy and we loved the wood “pillars” and “posts”. The staff go above and beyond to accommodate guests. Service is exceptional. We had my daughter’s wedding there - the ceremony was held in the gorgeous Monet Gardens and the reception was in the banquet room of the hotel with access to the outside patio. Everything was perfect!!!! I would highly recommend The Pillar and Post for a wedding. We can’t wait to return for a visit. I’d give 10 stars if I could!

We visited Pillar & Post Spa as a group of friends, and were able to book in advance treatments for all 6 of us! I recommend booking in advance because there’s not really any day-of appointments for any treatments. We had one person walk-in for a day pass to use the spa and hotel amenities (not for a treatment). It’s great because in between treatments, or before/after, you can enjoy the hot springs (really just a hot tub), indoor/outdoor pools and hot-tub. The outdoor pool was my favourite. Large, lots of room for guests to lounge, and very clean. Everything else was a bit small, not fitting many people. My treatment was nice, I had Nataliya as my manicurist and she was very kind and did a good job. I would definitely come back in the future!

We've been coming to the Pillar and Post for years, and have always enjoyed an exceptional visit. Our latest getaway did not disappoint! The staff are wonderful, and always friendly. The rooms are clean and comfy. We took advantage of the outdoor pool for a leisurely morning followed by lunch at the Monet inspired gardens across the way. Not only beautiful, but tranquil and relaxing. This time we booked the Wine Trolley Tour. It was a fun afternoon of tasting new wines and meeting new friends. We highly recommend. Breakfast and dinner at the Cannery Restaurant, as always was delicious! My husband has a good appetite, so the generous portion sizes were perfect! Our compliments to the chef. Looking forward to our next visit.

I recently went in for a spa treatment and overall had a good experience—the service itself was lovely and relaxing. However, the front desk experience left a lot to be desired. The older woman working the counter was unfortunately quite rude and came across with a lot of attitude, which made the initial check-in/out feel really unpleasant. It would make a big difference to have someone more welcoming and personable at the front, especially in a setting meant to be calming and enjoyable.

We are currently staying at Pillar and Post for 2 days. We got a reservation for a Deluxe Queen Room. The room is disgusting. It smells very musty and has black mold on the ceiling near the shower. All of the furnishings & decor in the room are very outdated & old.NOTHING like what the pictures show at all. Our room is on the first floor and looks out directly into the parking lot, so we have to keep the blinds closed at all times. There is minimal lighting & there is nothing appealing at all in the room. Looks like the last update was from the 70’s. After fees and taxes, we are paying over $600/night for this filth? I don’t even want to sleep here. The property itself has a pub, restaurant, 2 pools, a hot springs plunge and a run down spa. The only redeeming thing is the beautiful gardens across the street from the property. Other than that, it’s not appealing at all. Would not recommend.Definitely not worth the price.

Google
We stayed here two days. Our hotel room had rips in the wallpaper and a hole in the shower. The decor is very dated too. We were on the second floor so when we had wine to bring back we had to go up a flight of stairs. No elevator to the rooms. The poor front desk guy when we left had to carry down 5 boxes of wine one by one to put on the cart. Also find a solution for the parking. Having it being down the street a bit is annoying. Now the good. The pool was nice. The room was clean and everyone was nice. It's a good three star hotel but overpriced

I just finished my second getaway at Pillar and Post, once for an anniversary a couple years ago, and this time for a birthday getaway with my husband. We absolutely love to relax by the pool, it gives the full on resort feel to our getaway. Food and cocktails poolside, while reading a paperback and hopping in to cool off when it gets too hot. The restaurants, both The Cannery and the bar/lounge, offer INCREDIBLE food. Breakfast, dinner and every lunch or late night snack was top tier. And last but not least - the staff go above and beyond at every point, from checking in and out to accommodating my request for a safety pin when I was having a wardrobe crisis! I’m counting down the days until my next stay at Pillar and Post!

Yelp
I absolutely love this hotel and spa. My husband surprised me for a little romantic getaway and it was amazing. The parking leaves a bit to be desired but it doesn't matter because once we were inside, we didn't want to leave again. It was such a beautiful stay. I never felt more comfortable in my life. At first I was shocked to see people walking everywhere with robes on. I don't know why but I assumed I would see that more at the pool or even the spa but people were reading books in robes in the lobby, hanging out at the bar etc.. It was really refreshing to see. Once we got in our room we threw on our swimsuits and grabbed our robes. We spend most of our time at the outdoor pool the first day. It was so amazing. I absolutely love the idea of going into warm water when it's cold outside. The contrast in temperatures is so fun. I've been in hot tubs in the winter but an entire heated swimming pool just brought out this child-like joy that I can't explain. I had way too much fun. Then we made our way down to the hot spring. That was my absolute favorite. You can book your time frames in advance as much as you want. There's a 15min limit to each visit which is kind of annoying but understandable. It makes it so everyone can get a chance to enjoy it without overcrowding. There were several couples that didn't follow the rules and just stayed there well beyond the time. They would be there when we got in and still there when we left. That kind of annoyed me that staff doesn't monitor the hot spring to prevent that from happening but it is what it is. We just stuck to the rules and booked so much that a few times we had the whole hot spring to ourselves. It was such a nice experience. It's super close to home for us and we will be back for sure. I'm obsessed.

Yelp
We had a self-care getaway on a Thursday at the spa. We bought the day pass for $50 which gave us access to i door lounge, indoor pool, hot tub, heated outdoor pool, sauna, hot spring pool and fitness center. Other treatments like massage, facial, manicure and pedicure were also available for extra. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The priority access to hot spring pool goes to hotel guests, but we didn't have any problems booking it during the day. We also enjoyed hot spring pool under the rain; pretty romantic, eh? There's tea and coffee available in the lounge and you can buy food and drinks from the bar to enjoy. Drinks are allowed in the pool area, except no glassware is allowed. You'll be provided with a robe and flip flops (if you forget your slippers), but you have to bring your own swimsuit. There are towels available everywhere, and you can use them. The changing rooms were well-equipped and clean. Shampoo is available in the showers. It was a very calm and relaxing day for us and we decided to plan another getaway soon.

Yelp
Not usually one to complain about places. But, here we are. The grounds were great, food was decent, room was decent. If your looking for a spa experience this is NOT the place for you. We have stayed at other properties through Vintage Hotels and have never had a problem. We went down to Niagara on the lake to celebrate. Unfortunately we were met with kids playing chicken in the indoor pool, so we moved to the outdoor pool. At the outdoor pool there was another group of kids doing a photoshoot while doing cannonballs into the pool. We tried to go back to the indoor pool and we had to listen to a young women facetiming on speaker phone for 45 minutes. Ended up just leaving the spa area as none of the rules/etiquette were followed or enforced. Again, if your looking for a spa atmosphere do not book this place. We did reach out to management. Lisa responded back that this is "acceptable" so that's the kind of service you will get with them. Save your money, book some where else! We, unfortunately will no longer book at Vintage hotels.

Yelp
Attended a wedding here. Its a beautiful venue with a nice garden for the ceremony. The food was delicious! The meat and fish were perfectly cooked for such a large event. Bar service was simple with bar rail, wines and beers. The service by the staff was excellent and professional.

Yelp
Plenty of parking, very huge and clean rooms and they even give you a beautiful rose at night on the bed .I booked the hot spring and a manicure, both were amazing. There is a heated outdoor pool and an indoor pool with hot tub, both kept up and clean. For dinning on the premises I highly recommend the Cannery, huge portions and tasty food ,plus the breakfast is a buffet so you have a plethora of options.Make sure to go across the street and visit the exquisite gardens, plus there's even ice skating. I really loved my visit and can't wait to return.

Yelp
This inn has so much to see and offer, it's incredible. Rooms are clean, plus they give you the added touch of your name on the TV, plus a beautiful rose on the bed at turndown. The fountain spa is amazing, I got a manicure plus make sure to book a reservation with the hot Springs, both so relaxing. There is an indoor pool with a hot tub plus a heated outdoor pool ,both very nice and clean. The property has a bar the lounge for drinks and for dinner go to the Cannery, the samon was incredible and the breakfast buffet is amazing. Plus make sure to leave time and go across the street and explore the amazing gardens.Plenty of on site parking and walking distance to the town to go exploring, can't wait to return !!

Yelp
Rating 3.5 We came with a group. Our room was opposite the back Parking lot but we had to park in the distant lot due to lack of space. The room smelled musty and the water from the sink was stinky. The sink drain did not work well. We had a large king bed which was very high and awkward to get in and out of. There was a desk, sitting area, fireplace and tv. The room was a decent size. The hotel is quite old in style and decor but that is the charm that people like about it. I prefer more modern spaces. The outdoor pool had several loungers and tables/chairs but was quite busy. It is a 10minute walk to the busy town area vs the Prince of Wales hotel which is directly in the heart of the shops/restaurants. Both locations are great.

Yelp
Had an extremely unpleasant experience at the pool. While swimming with my 3 small children Heather moved our things, including children's clothing and sat other guests there. Although Heather was fully aware we were there as she spoke to us as we arrived at the pool. When we confronted her as I had no place to sit my kids after getting them out of the water she became rude. Seeing that the conversation was going no where I told her I'm going to the front desk, she blocked my way, I then asked her to move to which she said "say please", I said I won't, "she said you need to leave the pool area, you can't come back here". I told her I'd speak to the front desk about this and was done talking to her. The food and beverage director came storming out as she had called him, who was unapologetic and only noted that he wasn't aware that Heather had seen us before we entered the pool. I have never received such rude treatment in any stay. We booked as a group of 8 with 3 rooms. We will never be back and I would advise as many people as I can to not go here. Oh and I did inform the front desk of this and they did exactly nothing about it. Our stay and experience there was completely ruined. Happy Canada day to us from this wonderful Inn.

Yelp
Love this place, everything about it from the décor to the amenities. I would recommend the BBQ flat Iron, for people who like garlic, this is a really good choice. Before checking in a few drinks in the lounge help kick off your weekend retreat. I went with the spicy pine apple margarita, only a good choice if you love margaritas. But enough about food. The spa before dinner makes the entire experience one worth returning for on a monthly basis if you have the means, the lounge after the hot springs OMG, talk about relaxation, every visit with family makes me aspire to do much better for myself.

ColleenM D.

Yelp
This time around we booked 3 rooms. Sometimes we have booked anywhere from 1-8 rooms. My family, which includes both Canadian and American, adult children, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many of our friends throughout the more than 20 years of coming to this hotel have thoroughly enjoyed our experience - truly phenomenal, except the last few times. There always seems to be a problem with something. Not providing the correct rooms, Wi-Fi and safes not working, ice machines not working, mold on shower curtains. Dirty towels left in rooms, dirty plates, glasses left all over the hotel, not being able to access the outdoor spa, charges added to our bill we did not purchase and what is going on with the additional $160 added to our credit card "in case" we may buy a drink or food. That is truly outrageous! If something happens periodically that is understandable, however, this has been happening every time we have stayed lately which increasingly has made our stay less than stellar. Because of their many screwups, they gave us some money back upon leaving. This is not what we wanted! We wanted to have a nice relaxing stay with family. This used to be the epitome of a luxurious experience we looked forward to every year, sometimes twice a year. This place is expensive. They should realize repeat customers are their bread and butter and I don't know if any of us will ever come back. There are now many more luxurious hotels with spas to choose from. Now I will address the state of repairs and upkeep. Why in the world would you have a rug that is clearly in disrepair, old, worn, slippery and quite honestly just filthy still on your stairs! You can clearly see a droop and curve on the rug where it lays on the stair. As I was going to my massage at noon, I fell down the last flight. (I'm sure they have already looked at the feed on the camera). I sustained a sprained ankle which I had to pay to get x-rayed and many bruises to my knees and arm. They took my name, number, address, but they never filed an incident report and I have never heard back from them. I guess they are told to ignore these things and hopefully it will go away - so fearful of being sued, instead of providing quality service like they used to. I had no intention of suing, However, the next person who falls, just may...

Yelp
Spent two great nights here this week. Hotel has exceptional Ambiance, with great service, restaurant and Spa. The outdoor Hot Springs are near the Spa and are an included feature for guests. Pillar and Post is about a half mile walk to the town Center that includes shops, hotels, and many great restaurants. This is an extremely well managed Hotel and every staff person we encountered was extremely courteous and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Absolutely recommend this establishment. We come here every year for our anniversary and it is always an amazing time. We walk through Niagara on the lake, we eat at the cannery located inside of the pillar and post. We have a couples massage we sit in the spa, quiet room, we go to dinner From start to finish it is a perfect 10. The staff is amazing. The amenities are plenty. It has a very peaceful atmosphere, rich with history and beauty. Across the street is a great little park with waterfalls, bridges, and a place to eat. The bedrooms are well appointed fireplace gives a very European feel it is worth every penny and we missed going there for the two years that we couldn't get over the border.

Yelp
I came for our anniversary, the staff and the spa staff are great but the restaurant was awful. the whole time I was waiting for Gordon Ramsey to pop out and start yelling at them. I've had a better dinner in a small town diner beside the train tracks. had a massage and it was amazing rooms were clean front desk were great

Yelp
My sister and I came here for spa treatments on a Sunday. The treatments themselves were very good, I had a massage and the therapist used just the right amount of pressure and did a great job. We were really expecting to spend a few hours here and have a super relaxing day but it didn't quite live up to that. When we first arrived and were checked in, we were told where the locker rooms were but got no other information - where we were supposed to meet our massage therapists, what spa treatments were available to us - nothing. The room we waited in for our massages was very full and also a lot louder than other spas I've been at (they didn't seem to enforce any quiet rules). After our treatments we went to use the outside waterfall hot tub but once again it was packed and pretty loud. Overall we enjoyed our treatments and still had a nice day, but we've been to other spas where we've definitely had much better and more relaxing experiences. We'd likely not come back to this spa again.

Yelp
3.5* overall? I didn't patronise the spa, but I felt as though different aspects of the Inn deserved different ratings. Parking - 3* Lot on the actual property is very limited, so you may hafta cross the street onto their overflow lot. Rooms - depends on where you're staying See pic, but if you're stuck in this block, CHANGE rooms. It was a separate, 2-storey building - looked like a school portable - and they were called "Deluxe" because it had a fireplace? I asked to be switched as soon as I saw 2 dbl beds...I was on a couple's getaway. Plus, I did want to visit the pool/jacuzzi and I knew that it would be a pain to do if I ended up staying in a room that I had only outdoor access to. It was -20, windy, and snowing. Those block of rooms also had poor insulation and that particular room had a noisy heating system. Walls were paper thin and I could hear the person in the next room! Staff - 4-4.5* The female who checked us in, just straight up did her job. No pleasantries and I didn't find her very friendly. Other staff members truly seemed to love their jobs/environment. Cannery - the steakhouse, pretty close to 5* Resto was really, really dim. Tea light helped a bit. Excellent service by Patricia who candidly told me that house wines were the worst on the menu! I knew we were going to get on well from there. Pool/Outdoor Jacuzzi Visiting the outdoor jacuzzi is a-must! I can see these areas getting rowdy depending on the crowd. There were quite young people in the quiet room beside the outdoor jacuzzi. There was also a couple, in robes, eating a full-on dinner in the quiet room...which I thought was weird. Other Rooms Bed wasn't the most comfortable. They had blackout curtains. TV was the quality of 480 resolution, so don't expect too much. Bring your own USB/devices if you're staying in. Heating unit wasn't as noisy as the "portable" room, but still noisy. You had to keep the unit on otherwise you'll freeze during the night. Shower looked like a standard condo shower. Check out was easy! A much, much better property than Queens Landing, which was in dire need of major renovations.

Yelp
Spa day at the Pillar & Post. Darlene started off with a pedicure. Me? Nah... I spent an hour in the hot springs. Beautiful, tranquil area surrounded by stone, foliage and waterfall. Large indoor and outdoor polls as well. Next we plan on having breakfast while waiting for an 80 minute couples massage at noon. Oh yeah!!

Jeanne C.

Yelp
Rave reviews for this gem! Had a one night stay this past weekend with nine other women for a girls night out and was extremely pleased with the quality of service on all fronts. Must give a shout out to Joseph at the front desk who went above and beyond to make a 50th birthday extra special. Bravo and we will all be back soon!

Yelp
Had a lovely evening with friends here; waitress suggested the prime rib which did not disappoint!

Yelp
This is one of my favourite get away destinations! The Inn is very inviting and had a nice balance of feeling both modern and cozy. I love the outdoor pool! Even better the staff is so great about serving you dinner and drinks right by the pool side! If you're eating and drinking there I highly recommend the lime margarita and the buffalo cauliflower. The rooms are Extremely comfy and offer lots of privacy. The grounds are lush with flowers and vines and I think it would make a great wedding venue. I'm only giving 4 out of 5 and not 5/5 because on more on one occasion when I was there different staff have remarked that they were understaffed and overwhelmed. It's obvious the waitstaff need more help and I hope the management will rectify this soon.

Yelp
I was at Pillar and Post during a company retreat and I had a great experience during my stay. The hotel is located at Niagara-on-the-Lake near the wineries, which is a little bit farther away from the Falls and the Casino, but the the value is so much better. As part of the Vintage Hotels chain, Pillar and Post was once a canning factory during the World Wars era and you can see many details reflecting its former character. Apparently even Queen Elizabeth visited the hotel in the 70s, and the hotel has won numerous awards. Hotel Room: I shared a 2 person bedroom with a colleague of mine and I was blown away by how big our room was. Not only that we each got a roomy double bed, but there was also a seating area with couches and a nice big screen TV, along with a working gas fireplace. At the washroom we even had a big Jacuzzi tub. The price came down to around $87 per person for the room, but keep in mind that we probably got some sort of corporate discount and it was also on a Monday. Chicago Room (Private Game Room): Since we were a corporate group, we were allowed to use the Chicago Room for free, and we even got our private bartender at the game room. In the room, there was a big lounge area with couches and a fireplace, and on the other side there was a pool table. Free Amenities: For booking a stay at Pillar and Post, customers get to use their heated swimming pool, fitness gym, sauna, and hot spring for free. Everything was great, the space was clean and not overly crowded. Apparently, there is also a "country club" option for the retired people living nearby to just use the facility for classes and for socializing. Spa: This is for extra cost. They offer services include manicure, pedicure, message, and facial. I got the 50 minutes facial and it was a relaxing experience that I even fell asleep during the treatment. Even though it's called "facial", I actually got treated for my neck and arms as well. The specialist first steamed my face to open the pores, then she exfoliated my skin to removed dead skins, then she applied a mask, and to finish off she applied moisturizer. Throughout the treatment she messaged my face and upper body while applying the products. The treatment left my skin smooth and glowing, the specialist informed me that I shouldn't use any makeup on my skin because the layer of skin was brand new and quite sensitive. Restaurant: We enjoyed dinner at a private dinning hall called the Old Library. The room was so grand and massive that it felted more like a ball room. As you can see from the picture, even with a long table for 20, there was still so much space left. We got to order from a set menu and I chose the pistachio souffle for appetizer, beef short ribs for entree, and the cheesecake for dessert. I liked the pistachio souffle but wasn't a big fan of the green pepper sauce. The beef short ribs was really tender that it literally fell off the bones, and oh my god the portion was so massive I literally couldn't finish it!! The cheesecake was alright, but I was already too stuffed from the short ribs to enjoy it all. We also stayed for their complementary AYCE breakfast the next day. They had many trays of food which include bacon, sausages, pancakes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, toast and pastries. There was definitely plenty of food for everyone. Also, there was also a person there to cook omelettes and waffles to order. I really liked their fresh waffles, almond danish, and the hot chocolate looked amazing. I would definitely come back to Pillar and Post if I were to visit Niagara Falls again on my own. I heard the place is absolutely gorgeous during the summer when you can lounge under the sun in the nicely manicured garden.

Yelp
I imagine this hotel once was a luxurious place to stay, heck they even had Queen Elizabeth II stay here. But now the standard of service and quality of the rooms just don't justify the price they charge. The rooms are a decent size, with lots of floor space, but the furnishings need updating. Particularly the bathroom with old grubby tiles and low water pressure shower. Not to mention that once you've had a shower there's nowhere to hang your towel, nor was there any place to hang a hand towel after you've used it. Not too much of an issue if you're only staying one night, but hardy ideal if you're here for any longer. The walls are also paper thin. Walking down the corridor you can hear conversations in rooms as you pass, similarly, if you're lying in bed you can hear your neighbour's TV or people walking outside your door. We also were not impressed with the extra charges the hotel put onto our credit card. At check-in they added $150 for incidentals, even though our room was fully paid for in advance. Understandable, but not something I like. However, one bottle of wine with dinner and one after-dinner glass of scotch, and the hotel deemed it necessary to put another $240 hold on our credit card at 3am. Bearing in mind that we were only staying for one night, had pre-paid and would be checking out within a few hours, I found this totally unacceptable and unjustifiable. The manager was despicably condescending about the charge, and would do nothing to reverse it when we complained. This took 6 days to be lifted off our card, and left a sour note to our stay. Needless to say, based on the experience we will likely look for another establishment next time we stay in the area

Yelp
This may have once been a premier property but after spending New Year's weekend 2023 there I now call it the Pilar and mold. It is run down, dirty, the bathroom in our room smelled awful, the beds are beyond old and uncomfortable. The carpets are dirty (bring flip flops or slippers). The staff is accommodating and try very hard to be helpful but they can only do so much. very disappointing.

Nunzio R.

Yelp
We visited NOTL again last week but booked at the last minute. The only room available to us was a basic outdoor access room so we took it. It was a great decision. The room overlooked the swimming pool and had vaulted ceilings, a bay window (with seat) and a double vanity in the bathroom. While it didn't have much of a lounge area, it did have 2 queen size beds. The staff was amazing, with special recognition going to Samantha in room service. She was incredibly nice and we appreciated her personality and professionalism. The lobby was decorated for Christmas and the lighting in the Van Gogh garden was magnificent. We really enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
The service provided by the front desk is exceptional and warm. Unfortunately the rooms are dated, in particular the bathrooms and there is a lingering smell of chlorine in the air. Overall it's an ok stay with room for improvement.

Yelp
Probably the best massage I have EVER had. The hot spring was lovely, the reclining chairs by the fireplace are so comfortable, and the decor is beautiful. Some of the facilities could use with an update, and there was a bit of a mix-up/delay with our drink order, but all-in-all the staff was very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was entirely relaxing and idyllic. Would highly recommend for a great weekend away!

Yelp
Where to start, where to start? We stayed at the Pillar & Post. Bought a package which included a stay, massage & dinner. The resort itself was ok which is the most I can give it. It's a little old (I know it a Vintage Hotel ) but the walls were a little marked up, the carpets we old & worn & the place in general looked a little run down. It was very nicely presented however & it felt like you were walking into a good quality hotel. The front entrance was solid. It's had fresh flowers & a great presentation. The front desk staff were very polite & efficient and were able to check in early, which was nice. We scheduled a 50 minute (used to be an hour but now I guess it's 50 minutes). The massage was excellent. The Masseuse was solid & delivered a great massage. I made the mistake of getting the whole body massage instead of just the upper body/back massage. The cost was a little high...$145.00 for 50 minutes. After the massage they had a great sitting area where you could have a cup of tea w some fresh fruit. All very nicely done! We had dinner at the Niagara Dining restaurant. The quality of the meal was definitely there. Our waiter Derek was very accommodating to my special food requirements. We were in no rush & the services matches the environment. The only issue was the $10.00 we were charged for a large bottle of Perrier. I had the Blue Crab Cakes which were beyond delicious. Also Beef Tenderloin with red & yellow Beets & other seasonal veggies. All were excellently presented & tasted fantastic! For dessert, Pastry Chef was kind enough to prepare an off menu fresh fruit bowl for me. For us this was a all positive experience. If you like to be pampered...go here!

Yelp
I just may have had the most delicious salad in my whole life for lunch here.... and yet before ordering it, I thought it was going to be kind of weird. It was a blend of lettuces (mostly arugula) with maple glazed sweet potatoes and nuts and craisins. Fresh and tasty and full of flavors. A delightfully light lunch!

Yelp
Spent 5 nights here on room only whilst touring in the area. Good location for both Niagara-on-the-Lake and the wider area. We ate here one night and had breakfast on two occasions. Food pretty good but better in the area. Staff helpful facilities good. Indoor and Outdoor Pool and Spa.

Yelp
I got married at the Pillar and Post on December 23. It was my fairytale Christmas wedding! Our coordinator, Farin, was fantastic, there was no question too big or silly for her. She's amazing and when this bride was suffering from stomach issues five minutes before walking down the aisle, she fetched me ginger ale from the kitchen and wouldn't start proceedings until I had a few sips. She definitely brought an element of much needed calm to my day. The spa was beautiful and relaxing to myself and my bridal party for various treatments the day before the wedding. We all enjoyed the hot springs and the makeup lady and masseuse I had were both so charming and efficient. The whole wedding weekend, from the bar to the morning after wedding brunch were so accommodating of my dietary needs as a celiac, always making sure there was GF bread available to me and something to eat. The only thing that left a slightly bad taste in my mouth was check in the day before the wedding. Having just paid the P&P a significant amount of money and waiting for that payment to clear on my credit card, the card I handed over upon check in did not have the $150 hold per night (I was staying 2), plus the holds from the spa for all the treatments I had booked for myself and bridal party. The front desk would offer no other solution and would not allow me, the bride, to check in until I came up with the cash ten minutes later. That was a little disheartening (and embarrassing). Besides that incident, everyone was fantastic the whole weekend. My husband and I know we'll come back once a year to celebrate.

Yelp
I visited this spa with my husband during our anniversary/babymoon weekend. He was not thrilled about getting a pedicure, but I signed him up for the sports pedicure and assured him there would be other guys there too. When we arrived, we were kindly greeted, given our robes, and directed to wait in the lounge area. It was lovely, cozy, quiet, and relaxing. And we saw men in there! I relaxed with a cup of tea before being picked up for the pedicures. Both women who worked on us were friendly and professional and did a great job. I'm always nervous about my polish chipping or smudging right away, but it's been days and my toes still look perfect. Next time I'm in the area I would definitely return for additional treatments.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner. The prime rib was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly. A dining experience that won't disappoint.

Yelp
Came here with work for a training course and I can honestly say this is the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Service - food - amenities. It gets 5 starts in every field. The rooms are so clean and the beds are very comfortable. The pools, hot tubs & hot springs are AMAZING The food - unreal ! I can't wait to come back here !!

Yelp
I recently visited this place as a birthday treat from my wife. I must say that this place is a gem in the historic Niagara on the lake community. The facility is well kept, clean, and all the hosts were friendly and helpful. We started our day by getting our massage and facial done. Then had plenty of time to access the hot spring. The hot spring is small but beautiful. It is outdoors with trees surrounding it. There is also an indoor and an outdoor pool. The pools, gym, and hot spring, all can be accessed for the whole day, until 10pm, if you book a spa service or buy day pass. There is also a restaurant on site which we did not try. What is to be noted is that this spa is not too far from the main shopping district and downtown. It takes a short walk for about 10min to get to the heart of all the action. Also, there is a shuttle bus service from the front door of this establishment if you choose to take it. This place has all the amenities for a wonderful romantic getaway, and yet a stone throws away from the historic downtown. Go ahead and book your getaway, you will love it!

Yelp
This place is a slice of heaven. Once you check in, you really don't have to leave until checkout! The restaurant here is amazing, so is the hotsprings, the spa and the service. If you do choose to leave, there are a million places to visit around town or at the local wineries. My personal favorite is Stratus, right around the corner from Pillar and Post. Too notch here, especially as a winter escape!! Wonderful, fabulous, and amazing! Any complaint would be, the beds are not super comfortable, even in the suites.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay here. I thought the grounds were beautiful, right off the bat. There's a lobby with cozy fireplace, a great outdoor pool, a large indoor pool, spa and even a "hot springs" (more on that later). I stayed here with a group of girls for a bachelorette party. While it was a little bit of a walk to town for the restaurants and bars, it wasn't bad at all. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised by how great the hotel restaurant was. Usually it's a front for mediocre food that's convenient, but our meal was excellent! The rooms were spacious and beds were comfy! While I wouldn't say it's modern by any means, the room is a pretty standard hotel type. But extra points for a jet tub (which sadly wasn't used). I didn't use the spa, but had a lot of girlfriends who had services and said it was great! I walked past the pedi station and felt a little jealous, I must say! Downstairs past that are the "hot springs." I could be wrong, but I don't really think it's a real hot springs. Just a hot tub. But it was in a beautiful wooded area that I totally enjoyed, so whatever! I was walking down the hallway past both awesome pools thinking I will most definitely stay here again. I'm not really a bed and breakfast type, which there are a lot of up here, so this is perfect!

Yelp
Since we are from the Finger Lakes in New York and we have already explored Niagara on the Lake, we weren't really looking to check out the wineries. We were looking more for a relaxing experience. We found it here! This hotel is off the beaten path. You won't be able to walk right out of the hotel and have the shops right there. However, it is not far (maybe 1/2 mile) to the shops. The outside of the hotel does not do this place justice! At first glance, it looked like an old school or factory. A little research taught me that it was an old cannery. After checking in, we toured the lobby and lounge. The lobby was still decorated for christmas/holidays and was beautiful! There were several areas to sit in the lobby to read or enjoy a glass of wine in front of one of their many fireplaces. There were several pieces of beautiful artwork displayed throughout the lobby. Our room was a very spacious and clean with gas fireplace. We were provided cushy bathrobes and slippers to walk to the spa. We quickly changed and headed to the outdoor hot springs. That was heaven! It was so warm and relaxing even though it was freezing outside! Turn down service with a rose was a nice touch! We also had appetizers at Vintages Lounge and dinner at The Cannery....both excellent! Service was excellent from all of the staff members! This was perfect for us. We didn't want to leave because everything we were looking for was right there!

Yelp
Is one of the Vintage hotel series in the Niagara at the lake area. A few years ago we visited the Prince of Whales Hotel. Pilar and Post does not present as luxurious however I appreciate the character of P&P better. We got offered to the suite room with a very reasonable price, very spacious room of more than 600 sq ft. The hotel offers shuttle service to the area around, for the first time we can do the wine tasting without worrying about the driving after. The outdoor hot spring is very nice, just need to carefully pick when you go at the time of the day, it could get super crowded.

Yelp
We visited your dining room on Saturday 08/10/2019 expecting a grand experience with the meal as well as the service. We had guests come as far away as Europe and Florida and wanted to be certain it would a memorable event. Sadly the event was memorable only because of Anthony our server. He was generally arrogant, rude and pompous. We were rushed throughout the ordering and dining process and the final insult came when at 8:10 he announced we should hurry because he had another large group arriving at 8:30. We would have been gone by then anyway, but his request put all nine of us filled with regret that we chose this restaurant to celebrate. I am a bit amazed that his behavior was not observed or reported by your management and other guests. You can rest assured that we will never darken your door as long as he is employed there.

Yelp
Just came back from a beautiful weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake and I cannot begin to describe how thrilled I am with my experience. The small town, the wineries, the scenery and best of all our hotel! The Pillar & Post Inn, apart of the Vintage Hotels group in NOTL was an incredible destination for a couples weekend getaway. As one previous yelp review writer said "an escape from everyday life!" Walking in, I pictured this older looking Inn to be run down, dingy and maybe even a little dated given past experiences with similar small town hotel/inns where you pay top dollar for limited accommodations - not here! P&P was modern, contemporary in it's design while still maintaining the prestige and heritage of a time not so long ago. The lobby had exposed beams the extended across an open glass ceiling making for a bright welcoming lobby area. The hotel staff and concierge were professionally dressed, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about anything and everything to do about NOTL, P&P and the local area. We booked as part of a package that granted us some free wine flight tastings and when we asked if there were any other wineries we could get a pass for they hooked our group up with tasting flights to an additional winery free of charge! The rooms were gorgeous and the fixtures modern. The bed was massive, even by King size bed standards and was so comfortable that it induced coma's the moment my head hit the pillow (could have been the wine, but I'll give credit to the bed). What i loved as well was how dark the blackout blinds were - We woke up at 9:30am and for all we could have known it was the middle of the night! The amenities which included a lounge bar/resto, a more formal restaurant, an indoor and outdoor pool AND a hidden romantic grotto style hot spring and spa, were all top shelf IMHO!! We didn't make use of the hot spring or spa on account of intoxication levels and time but it would be something I highly recommend if you have the time and money to visit. Pro-Tip: The spa is overpriced - 25 min massage for over $80! Some other amazing things that you should know about: - Celebrities frequent this place, we just missed Adam Sandler and his family who checked out the morning we arrived - If you're a car enthusiast you won't be disappointed as the parking lot is rife with impressive automobiles (hello canary yellow Ferrari Spider) - If you plan on visiting the town, or any wineries within the NOTL 'grid', any of the Vintage Hotels offer FREE shuttle service to and from the hotel or to and from destinations. They picked us up from one winery and dropped us off at another no questions asked and no charge! The hotel will try to push a trolly excursion on you but this is a far better option (and FREE - just tip your driver). Loved this experience, loved the stay- will be back again (when I can afford to do so ha ha ha)

Yelp
Normally, when we visit Niagara-on-the-Lake, we go the B&B route and love it. But when you're planning a bachelorette party with eleven ladies, B&B just isn't the way to go. On previous trips, I'd driven past the Pillar and Post and thought it looked nice from the outside. Good news....the inside was even better! We had three spacious suite rooms with a fairly decent size bathroom with a magnifying mirror and jetted tub! The room also had a gas fireplace, seating area with a pull-out couch and a mini-fridge. What I liked even better than the room was the indoor pool, the outdoor pool and the hot springs. I only had the chance to partake in the latter and it was spacious and relaxing. The outdoor pool was always packed all day starting early in the day but it looked fabulous! It's a must for my next visit. The hotel had both a bar and restaurant and the restaurant food here was one of the best meals I have had out in Niagara-on-the-Lake ever. My only gripe was that service was very slow. The inn is also within walking distance of Queen Street but if tired out from an afternoon of wine tasting, take advantage of the complimentary hotel shuttle. They also have a wonderful spa. While a tad pricy, I felt pampered and spoiled! All in all, I would definitely stay here again. While I missed the four course breakfast from our normal B&B, it was great to have use of all the hotel's amenities. Thanks for playing host to a wonderful bachelorette weekend!

Yelp
Recently, friends of ours had their wedding at the hotel and we stayed in the hotel for 2 nights for the wedding. The amenities at this hotel are great, the rooms are large, the beds are clean and comfortable and the setting of the hotel is beautiful. We generally had no complaints about the infrastructure and environment. However, a few things happened with customer service that were strange. The remote for the TV was broken, so we asked the front desk to address it. I left the pre-wedding day party early (midnight) and arrived back to the room to find all the lights on and the TV blaring, scaring me because I thought there was someone in my room watching TV. It was very strange that the repairman would walk into a dark room, turn on every light to fix the TV remote, then leave without turning anything off. My room key was disabled/demagnetized after the first night. I went to the front desk in the middle of the wedding reception because I needed to pick a splinter out of my toe, and after confirming the name and the card on the hotel room (I didn't have ID because my purse was in the room, plus I didn't make the reservation so having my wallet wouldn't have helped anyway), I was still escorted to the room where the hotel staff watched me pick a splinter out of my toe for about 5 minutes before she just left me there - you decide if that was strange or not (remember, I have already been to the front desk to check in, ask for the remote to be fixed and ask for directions to the reception room - I should look a bit familiar by now!) Thirdly, the hot water screams through the walls when neighbors shower. Each morning, we could hear every time someone in an adjacent room turned on their taps. Really painful to hear at 6 am after you've been consuming a few beverages the night before! And last, but not least, they ended the party so abruptly, they practically took my wine glass out of my hand! At 1 am, absolutely EVERYTHING disappeared. You couldn't grab a piece of the pizza they'd put out at 11, your drink was whisked away, whether you were finished with it, or not. I found that to be a very cold end to an evening: times up, you're done, get out. The amenities are amazing though - however, for the price, I expected customer service to be much more professional.

Yelp
Talk about an escape from everyday life! And it's just a hop skip and a jump from Buffalo. I stayed here one night in the dead of winter and felt like I took a trip halfway around the world, coming back completely rejuvenated. Unfortunately I did not partake in their spa services (they were booked - make a reservation because this place attracts a lot of wedding parties) but I can comment on the overall hotel. The room was updated, modern but warm and welcoming with a fireplace, couches and view of the gardens. The hotel bar is likewise welcoming: upscale without being snooty. Excellent drinks (I had fruity martinis all night and was feeling nice and toasty). Cool little booths set back from the bar which allow for more private conversations. The only downfall to this particular hotel is that it is not quite within walking distance to the heart of Niagara on the Lake - you will have to drive to get to the other bars and restaurants (a very short drive and it is well worth it). May be more walkable in the summer but I was there in February and the streets were covered in deep snow.

Yelp
I stayed at the Pillar and Post from December 16-18, 2020. Since the hot springs and public hot tub were closed due to Covid-19 I purposely booked a room with a "jet tub" (expecting a jacuzzi but the website contains no photos and does not differentiate between the two). I was put into room 140 and there were issues right away. This room is located about 5 feet from a door that leads outside and I heard other guests and workers coming in and out, talking loudly, arguing and using power tools (see attached photos) all day on Dec 16th and all morning on Dec 17. Additionally, the sink was clogged, the bather's head lies inches from the *toilet*, and the jets in the small bathtub were ***broken***. This room also offers no privacy either since the deck doors (the only window) face the indoor pool windows and people in the pool can see into the room with the curtains open. I expressed these concerns to "Ivy" the virtual concierge via text message. The response was "sorry for the inconvenience". On Dec 17 I was told there was a room I could move to but it wasn't ready yet. I waited 40 minutes and had to ask if it was ready before they sent someone to bring me there. The new room was closer to what I expected when I booked- a large jacuzzi with jets that actually worked (again since public hot tubs were closed). However I was greeted in the bedroom by a massive spider that I had to kill myself as I wondered how it was missed by the cleaning staff that had literally just left. Around 8:40pm on Dec 17 I called down to place an order for room service for breakfast to be brought to my room at 10:15 am on the morning of Dec 18 since I had to check out by 11:30. The man at the Cannery restaurant with whom I spoke was extremely rude and sounded as though I was bothering him. By 10:25 am on Dec 18 when my order had not arrived I called down and they said they never received it. The man I spoke to the night before had ***not submitted my order*** so I had to place it again and they had to rush it to my room since I only had 40 mins to checkout which was only because I requested a late checkout. I felt the experience I had was unacceptable. They scheduled construction right outside my room and still placed me there. Additionally they did not check to ensure the plumbing worked before allowing a guest to stay there. Their attempt to reconcile these errors was soured by the missing room service order. These issues would not be acceptable at a cheap motel never mind a pricey spa. I went there to *relax* and shake off some of the stress and anxiety of C19 and my stay was a nightmare. Instead of posting a review with all of these details I decided to notify Bob Jackson the CEO of Vintage Hotels (the company the owns the Pillar and Post) of what happened during my stay and give him a chance to explain or make any efforts to "make it right" so I could include that in the review as well. He passed the buck and dumped me on Ryan Murphy the general manager of the Pillar and Post. Ryan replied asking me if I was going to write a bad review if I did not get a full refund. I replied stating no, that I was writing a review and giving him the chance to influence or add to it. He responded stating that he took my comments as blackmail (even though I clearly stated I was *not* blackmailing him) and told me that all he would do is place a note on my file not to place me in room ever again and issue me a credit. Both of these gestures are useless since I am never staying there again. So beware, if anything goes wrong during your stay, or several avoidable unacceptable issues occur during your stay and you notify the general manager, you might be accused of a serious crime and offered useless gestures.

Yelp
I went to the Pillar & Post Inn for a wedding reception this past weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The inn is walking distance to downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake. Pillar & Post has a rustic, country inn feel. The entrance was dressed up to the nines with a huge Christmas tree. The venue was very inviting and laid-back. The service at the wedding was wonderful! The bar made pre-made drinks to allow lines from the wedding guests (so smart!). Food was a-ok, it was fresh but nothing over the top. I would like to try out their restaurant the next time I am in the area. I was told through other wedding guests that the rooms at the inn were very comfortable and quite fancy. I would recommend Pillar & Post for future Niagara-on-the-Lake overnight trips or just for a lovely meal.

Yelp
This review if for the spa attached to the hotel. The spa/establishment itself was beautiful, looked nice and cozy, and especially festive during the holidays. My experience was mainly flawed by the spa services I received with my friends. We all got manis and pedis individually, though most of the staff was welcoming and warm, the service itself was less than satisfactory. Two of my friends got shellac nails done which, if you are familiar with this type of manicure, should not chip at all at least in the next few days. But they were chipping by the same night at dinner. Another got a normal manicure, that chipped as well on the same night. I got a pedicure, the service itself was wonderful and I personally experienced no chipping, but the bottoms of my feet were a lot rougher than after my other pedicures after a few days. All in all, I know people don't go there exclusively for their spa service, but given the price of each of these services (around $60 for shellac nails and $70 for pedi), I really expected much better.

Yelp
Busy. Busy. Busy. We went for an overnight spa expereince and this place has the potential to be fantastic however in my opinion they take far too many bookings at the spa. The hot springs and spa lounge were both is small and overcrowded. The resturant while expensive has exceptional service and good food. This was the best part of the trip. The rooms are rustic and small and we found some cobwebs and dust bunnies on the ceilings which wasn't great. Overall the service good and the treatments were nice but I found it too busy to have desired relaxation effect.

Yelp
Comfortable beds. Nice restaurant. Leah at the front desk was instrumental In getting us a taxi and was quite friendly :) We got $269 for a suite. Fair pricing. Didn't get a chance to do pool or whirlpool, will definitely next time!

Yelp
I would highly recommend staying here if you're feeling fancy and want a relaxing getaway. We first came here for an afternoon because a friend tipped us off that if you pay for any kind of treatment, you can use the facilities for free. We got massages at the spa, and then used all the pools, sauna, etc. And all I can say is OUTDOOR HOT SPRINGS IN THE WINTER. 'Nuff said. So recently we decided to stay there. If you stay, you can use the facilities and you don't have to pay for any kind of spa treatment. We got a "bed and breakfast" rate when we booked over the phone, and for $208 (plus taxes and resort fees, around $250) we stayed for a night and ate at the large buffet breakfast in the morning. The breakfast had a traditional buffet but also a station with a chef making omlettes and waffles. We loved staying here for our romantic one-night getaway!

Yelp
This place was pretty good overall. There is a cosy thermal spa that is really relaxing in the winter. The rooms come with a nice fire place and the bed sheets were really cosy. drawback is there wasnt much else in the building besides the spa and the pool and kinda felt small. Location was further from the main shops on queen.
