I was at Pillar and Post during a company retreat and I had a great experience during my stay. The hotel is located at Niagara-on-the-Lake near the wineries, which is a little bit farther away from the Falls and the Casino, but the the value is so much better.
As part of the Vintage Hotels chain, Pillar and Post was once a canning factory during the World Wars era and you can see many details reflecting its former character. Apparently even Queen Elizabeth visited the hotel in the 70s, and the hotel has won numerous awards.
Hotel Room:
I shared a 2 person bedroom with a colleague of mine and I was blown away by how big our room was. Not only that we each got a roomy double bed, but there was also a seating area with couches and a nice big screen TV, along with a working gas fireplace. At the washroom we even had a big Jacuzzi tub. The price came down to around $87 per person for the room, but keep in mind that we probably got some sort of corporate discount and it was also on a Monday.
Chicago Room (Private Game Room):
Since we were a corporate group, we were allowed to use the Chicago Room for free, and we even got our private bartender at the game room. In the room, there was a big lounge area with couches and a fireplace, and on the other side there was a pool table.
Free Amenities:
For booking a stay at Pillar and Post, customers get to use their heated swimming pool, fitness gym, sauna, and hot spring for free. Everything was great, the space was clean and not overly crowded. Apparently, there is also a "country club" option for the retired people living nearby to just use the facility for classes and for socializing.
Spa:
This is for extra cost. They offer services include manicure, pedicure, message, and facial.
I got the 50 minutes facial and it was a relaxing experience that I even fell asleep during the treatment. Even though it's called "facial", I actually got treated for my neck and arms as well. The specialist first steamed my face to open the pores, then she exfoliated my skin to removed dead skins, then she applied a mask, and to finish off she applied moisturizer. Throughout the treatment she messaged my face and upper body while applying the products. The treatment left my skin smooth and glowing, the specialist informed me that I shouldn't use any makeup on my skin because the layer of skin was brand new and quite sensitive.
Restaurant:
We enjoyed dinner at a private dinning hall called the Old Library. The room was so grand and massive that it felted more like a ball room. As you can see from the picture, even with a long table for 20, there was still so much space left. We got to order from a set menu and I chose the pistachio souffle for appetizer, beef short ribs for entree, and the cheesecake for dessert. I liked the pistachio souffle but wasn't a big fan of the green pepper sauce. The beef short ribs was really tender that it literally fell off the bones, and oh my god the portion was so massive I literally couldn't finish it!! The cheesecake was alright, but I was already too stuffed from the short ribs to enjoy it all.
We also stayed for their complementary AYCE breakfast the next day. They had many trays of food which include bacon, sausages, pancakes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, toast and pastries. There was definitely plenty of food for everyone. Also, there was also a person there to cook omelettes and waffles to order. I really liked their fresh waffles, almond danish, and the hot chocolate looked amazing.
I would definitely come back to Pillar and Post if I were to visit Niagara Falls again on my own. I heard the place is absolutely gorgeous during the summer when you can lounge under the sun in the nicely manicured garden.
