Koh Lanta Is One of Thailand's Best Hidden Gems

"Founded about two decades ago on roughly 100 unspoiled acres, this luxury beachfront resort occupies a long stretch of prime Kantiang sand that feels almost empty most mornings. The property is laid out like two resorts—each with its own infinity pool and restaurants—and offers just 121 accommodations, with deluxe rooms near the beach and terraced pool villas up the hillside. Service is attentive (rooms were tended multiple times daily), and guests benefit from coordinated transfers that include round-trip vans to Krabi and a speedboat option that shaves travel time. The international breakfast buffet is broad and regionally focused, and the on-site beachside seafood restaurant serves sumptuous, surprisingly affordable dinners; soft-shell crab is a standout dish." - Eric Goodman

Pimalai Resort and Spa, Koh Lanta Yai, Krabi - Explore & Book

"Ideally situated in Thailand's southwestern province of Krabi, Koh Lanta has long been a hotspot for backpackers. But unlike nearby Phuket and Phi Phi, the island has managed to go upmarket while retaining its slow, blissful vibe. Pimalai was the first of a clutch of luxury hotels to open on Koh Lanta and is arguably still the best. Set in 100 acres of lush tropical gardens on the quiet southern tip of the island, it has direct access to a half-mile stretch of pristine white sand. Arriving by speedboat, you would never guess there's a largish resort hiding in the hillside's protected woodlands. The 121 contemporary Thai-style rooms, suites and villas are virtually hidden amid the cashew trees; the spa is designed to blend into the jungle, with pretty thatched pavilions made of teak, bamboo and river stones. Guests, mainly 30-something couples with a smattering of families, spend their days being pampered, chilling out by the fabulous infinity pools, windsurfing and kayaking. Beyond the resort, Pimalai offers hiking, elephant rides and trips to some of Thailand’s finest dive sites. Highs Beautiful tranquil setting with acres of well-maintained lush grounds - perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature - paired with a huge stretch of unspoilt sandy beach Top-notch facilities including 2 spectacular infinity pools Gorgeous jungle spa - imaginatively designed and the best Thai massage we've experienced Good selection of dining options - the hotel has 4 restaurants (though they're quite expensive by Thai standards), plus you can wander along the beach to some laid back eateries and bars PADI dive centre offering excellent diving and snorkelling off nearby islands, especially between November and April Lows More resorty and less personal than most i-escape hotels: on arrival we winced at the buffets, Thai performers singing rock classics at dinner and golf carts transporting luggage, but by day 2 we didn't want to leave Some rooms such as the Pool Villas are a steep hike from the beach in the heat (then you'll appreciate the golf buggies) Not for party seekers - most guests are in bed by 11pm Off the beaten track and somewhat isolated from regular Thai life; guests tend to stay put in the resort" - Nikki Tinto

Pimalai Resort & Spa (Koh Lanta, Krabi) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The main calculation in traveling to Thailand is where exactly on the continuum between civilization and seclusion you want to end up. Though there’s no real desert-island experience to be had anymore, there’s a compromise to suit just about any taste — from the domesticated ex-wilderness of a Phuket to the nearby and much more tranquil Koh Lanta, home to the Pimalai Resort and Spa." - Tablet Hotels

There are so many good things to say about Pimalai, I don't even know where to begin. One of my favourite aspects of it was how much mature jungle it's surrounded by, and how many beautiful mature trees there are throughout the grounds. I had so many happy hours bird watching without having to go very far away. Even saw a Colugo! Both the pools are absolutely spectacular and the view from the upper pool is breathtaking. The staff are all incredibly good at their jobs and super friendly. We came in low season and really appreciated having so much space and privacy in our beautiful hillside villa with pool. Even in the height of rainy season the weather wasn't too bad at all with plenty of sunny days. We'll be back!

"Tropical Paradise" The property is exceptionally well maintained, with thoughtful landscaping and an exotic atmosphere. The staff is attentive and friendly with service often exceeding expectations. The room is spacious, clean with beautiful sea as well as garden view. Two swimming pools are peaceful with stunning ocean view. Resort restaurants offer special events daily like Hot Pot dinner, Steak & Wine Night etc. The spa is super nice as well with their exotic atmosphere and skilled therapists. Pimalai Resort and Spa is one of the best places to stay in Thailand. I strongly recommend this tropical paradise to couple, family as well as honeymooner. You won't be disappointed.

Pimalai is a beautiful and peaceful resort with fantastic scenery on Koh Lanta.||The breakfast buffet is excellent. The top 2 restaurants of Koh Lanta are in the Pimalai resort and are truly wonderful. Great food, excellent wine list, and many themed dinners during the week.||The hotel staff is great and made sure we, and especially our kids, felt very welcome.||We stayed in one of the double room beach villas with a private pool. The location is perfect and our kids enjoyed all the animals that came to visit. That's one of the best things about Thailand: the natural beauty and wildlife (all perfectly safe). ||The scenery is absolutely stunning, doing an aperitivo at the bar next to Seven Seas restaurant, and seeing the sunset is one of a kind.

Our stay at the Pimalai was nothing short of perfect. Everything—from the amenities, rooms, and resort facilities to the outstanding service—was truly exceptional. A special call-out goes to the incredible staff. The level of attention to detail across the board is remarkable and leaves a lasting impression. For example: after a lounge chair is used, the staff immediately clean it, replace the cover, and set out a fresh towel. When you settle into a chair, they bring cold glasses of water without being asked. If you’re walking back from the beach with equipment, someone is already on the way to meet you halfway so you don’t have to carry it all the way back. On my first day, I asked if some of my pump parts could be sterilized, and not only did the staff handle it immediately—they also installed a sterilizer in my room for the rest of the stay. These thoughtful touches made all the difference. We stayed in a beachfront room (room 404), and it was absolutely perfect. The views were stunning, and it was just a short walk to the pool, restaurants, beach, and buggy pick-up point. The resort has two pools: while the beachfront one is beautiful, the hillside pool offers even more breathtaking views. The beach itself is quiet, clean, and uncrowded—calm enough for swims and perfect for relaxing. Overall, Pimalai is a gem. The combination of its natural beauty, luxurious accommodations, and flawless service makes it a place I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a truly special getaway.

Greetings Brice,||I wanted to reach out to you and let you know what a wonderful time we had visiting Pimalai Resort. After returning from a previous visit we hoped we would recapture the wonder of Pimalai we experienced the first time. We exceedingly were overwhelmed with what we found! Pimalai matured into the timeless beauty any-one would wish for when returning to a magical place once remembered.||The natural beauty and timeless design and architecture of Pimalai has stood the test of time and has become an expression of calm and beauty. You have maintained and nourished the Resort to become, in our minds, one of the most beautiful resorts in our world.||Attention to every detail in our villa elevates this space into the most transformative accommodations anyone would ever desire. The design, fabrics and lighting took us away to another world of relaxation and amazement.||The service received from Pimalai team members was genuine and thoughtful. From breakfast to dinner we felt we were considered family, being taken care of to ensure we experienced the warmth of their personality and hospitality.||When we meet you, all the jewels of Pimalai came together. Thank you for extending your time, knowledge and conversation with us. You enhanced our stay with your sense of calm, humility and thoughtfulness. You are what we believe Pimalai is all about. Nourishment for the guests through the natural environment and mindfulness.||We thank you for this time we will always remember.||Respectively||Msc - USA

It’s a beautiful location—the grounds are stunning, the room was great, and the pools have incredible views. Unfortunately there are children everywhere. Too many visiting parents are indifferent to parenting. Weirdly no shade to be found at either pool, despite both being quite large. Guests were unfortunately much less kind to staff compared to other resorts. The staff was much less skilled with service/language than expected. The food was fine and the cocktails are stuck in the early 2000s. I’d gladly stay at an adult-only resort with less amenities.

Pimalai Resort is a true paradise, made even more special by its incredible staff. A huge thank you to Nancy at Seven Seas/Rak Talay Restaurants for her exceptional service. She was warm, attentive, and always going above and beyond. The entire Seven Seas team was fantastic, making every meal a delight. The resort itself is breathtaking, with stunning beaches and luxurious surroundings. We had an unforgettable stay and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend Pimalai for an extraordinary, relaxing getaway!

Only hotel we have ever returned and stayed twice. ||This hotel is amazing and easily the most enjoyable, luxurious hotel we have ever stayed in, so much so we returned.||The food and beverages are superb we ate in all the restaurants. ||The room we had was fabulous a view of the sea. ||For the first time ever I used hotel spa facilities. We do a lot of walking and my poor feet get hammered so I booked in for a pedicure (to be honest I was a little embarrassed the state my feet were in) the therapist didn’t even flicker, it was an hour that I would, with no hesitation book to go back. ||As for the hotel in general, no hesitation in recommending a wonderful peaceful oasis with the almost amazing food.
