The Best Burritos in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Inside this no-frills Cully taqueria, hulking burritos arrive in tortillas as large as 14 inches. The chile relleno burrito is stuffed with two fluffy chile rellenos, oozing with melty cheese, providing a satisfying cheese pull. Alternatively, the namesake Pinche Burro burrito is packed with chorizo refried beans and a choice of carne asada, carnitas, pastor, tinga de pollo, or birria. Aguas frescas in flavors like tamarindo, jamaica, and horchata come bottled for easy takeaway." - Janey Wong

Google
This is one of the most authentic places I’ve found! After living in SoCal and Chicago, I’ve got a solid idea of quality Mexican cuisine. You can tell by their prices and the quality of the food and salsas! Mouthwatering. Quality. Affordable. Make the trip here for some fantastic comfort food.

Google
Great street style tacos during the weekend, they offer charcoal grilled pastor, first time trying it and I am impressed. Best part is they open until 2am now.

Google
I've been coming here for a couple years now and this has become my number #1 spot for Mexican food. Friendly customer service, a short wait time, and absolutely delicious food! The juicy & flavorful carnitas tacos are my favorite, but WOW, the fish tacos are out of this world and very filling w/ you order just two! The house made salsas go amazing on everything. Can't recommend it enough!

Exceptional Mexican food. 5 stars

I was hesitant to enter because of the name (bad word in Spanish) after it was recommended to us but so glad we did. We ordered the carnitas and asada burritos to go and WOW! Big burritos and full of food. The carnitas tasted so fresh like it was just made. Everything was so delicious and affordable. They also have salsa bar, I love that. Two men were working so friendly and welcoming, asking how was our day and if we were enjoying the weather. Fast service too. We stopped around 2pm and it was not busy. There’s only 3tables inside to seat, it’s a small restaurant. Parking lot is small. I do recommend this authentic Mexican food restaurant. Will come back to try some else.

Google
Fried tacos are terribly underrated. It's lighter than you'd think. Not coma inducing as one might suspect. The salsa bar takes it up another notch. The almond salsa is refreshingly different. Seating is limited, so groups of 4 or more you are warned.

Google
I had the Chicken Tinga Tot platter. Prices you’d expect from an authentic Mexican joint. It was very flavorful. Glad to be able to sit in a temperature controlled area, compared to a taco truck, and with restroom access. Behind the burro on the door are 4 gambling machines. Cool little joint with loud Mexican music playing and happy employees singing along. I’ll come back when on this side of town. (Isn’t Pinches a bad word in Spanish?)

Google
Really small deli like burrito shop, with some lottery machines behind a wester swinging door, very little seating or standing room. They focus on making great burritos, and the knock it out of the park every time. Perfect meats, beans, chorizo rice! A good selection of sauces, with an almond sauce that will make you want to just drink it.

Yelp
This is a no frills hole in the wall. Order at the counter and bus your own tables. Got a plate and two nachos - carnitas, carne asada, and birria. All were flavorful and the carnitas were nice and crispy - just how I like them. The portions were large. Chips were great and tortillas were fresh. Wish this spot were closer to where we live!

Yelp
In general, I'm not the hugest fan of al pastor, but I heard it was one Pinches Burros' specialties. I can now say this, I definitely am a fan of the al pastor tacos at Pinches Burros. The pork was marinated to perfection. It had excellent flavor and wasn't fatty at all, in a good way. The pineapple marinade had just the right amount of sweetness. The tacos themselves were very good sized. The corn tortillas seemed to be homemade. Very good flavor and consistency. Three tacos were enough to fill me up for the evening. I also got some sort of daily special. crispy corn tortilla dish, that I could not find on the menu, but it was quite good, especially when covered in Pinches Burros cheese sauce. Possibly the best queso I've tasted in town. The restaurant itself is fairly small and nondescript inside. The also have a couple video lotter machines behind a saloon door, which seemed a tiny bit odd, but it did not take away from experience at all. I look forward to coming back, definitely for more cheese sauce, but also to try the other delicious looking items on their menu. Thank you, Pinches Burros. I love your logo to btw. Maybe I'll buy a t-shirt next time, too.

Yelp
Seriously the grossest Mexican food I've ever eaten. Everything was just bland and disgusting.

Yelp
Small place but really busting butt. 6 drivers came in while we ate to get orders. The food was great. Recommend the chicken tinga or carnitas. Went at 5pm they had lots ot takeout orders come and go but didn't bother is even in the small place. The cashier was friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
The best Mexican food this former southerner has found in PDX. Legit salsas & flavors. We're smitten for the chicken. Burritos are HUGE! I went with tacos last time & they were perfect. Queso isn't what we'd get in Texas but it's the best queso I've found in town.

Yelp
Checked this place out while visiting based on Yelp reviews and the name. It sits back off the road a little so kind of hard to see from down the street. Parking is limited. Inside was pretty small and looks like they have a small room to the side with slot machines. Staff were nice. Dorado tacos were good but would recommend adding meat to them. The Pastor burrito gets 5 star for sheer weight, but was rather greasy, mostly beans and rice and lacked much flavor. Their hot sauce had a good kick but was not overwhelming.

Yelp
I first passed up this place because it looked really low key.. but my roommate's went and recommended it so I tried it out and it was GOOD! I went back a few days later because I liked it so much. I got the chorizo burrito.. it's my favorite. My girlfriend likes the fish tacos.
google avatar

Roblyn B.

Yelp
Tasty little hole in the wall spot. A little too much fluff (rice) in the burritos, but still a good eat.
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
I ordered from Pinches Burros via Doordash. I got horchata and the pinches burrito with carnitas. The horchata was good with a good balance of cinnamon and rice flavor. I liked my burrito. The carnitas was delicious and I felt like there was a good balance of components except there was no salsa or hot sauce in it. I added my own hot sauce to it but it would take the burrito over the top if there was salsa in it. I liked that the burrito was filled well too. I had enough to eat some the next day. Overall, it was good and I would recommend coming here for a meal.

Yelp
Pinches Burros is a little joint in the quiet neighborhood of Portland. I stumbled upon this after landing at PDX and was looking for a quick bite to eat! They have lots of options for burritos, tacos, and platters, all very reasonably priced, I ordered the carne asada burrito for $11 and it was definitely more than enough food. Super flavorful, and my burrito didn't fall apart despite the size. Fast service, and somewhat limited seating inside (3-4 tables) so probably better to get it to go during busy hours!

Alejandro I.

Yelp
The food is good, got the chile relleno burrito, but the lady at front with glasses has the worst customer service. Bad attitude, she was rolling her eyes at all times while taking our order. I don't think I'll be back here.

Julia R.

Yelp
Great customer service from all employees. Giant burritos and amazing flavorful tacos! Will never go anywhere else for burritos and tacos again. Officially a frequent loyal customer
google avatar

Autumn W.

Yelp
This is not a drill! Literally the best I've had in Portland. Chile relleno is out of this world. Avocado salsa out of this world. I'm from Southern California and have yet to find my dream mex spot here but this could easily be it ;) Btw, splittable size!

Yelp
I don't know how I've lived without this place, nor how I've never experienced it before now. This. Food. Is. Love. I have raved about other Mexican food places. And I meant it. But... they were excellent Portland Mexican food. This place... this was like coming home. I am a native southern Californian. I've been a transplant Portlander for over 15 years. This is the place. The diamond in the rough.. The Leia to my Han. I need no other. This is the best burrito in all of Oregon. Full stop. Only complaint if I had to have one: Would love the opportunity to order (and pay) for a side of extra salsa when ordering online.

Lindsey W.

Yelp
Fantastic hole in the wall. Me and my family got the birria plate, an asada quesadilla, and the crispy tacos which we added beans and tinga chicken on top of. Everything we got tasted incredible. They had a awesome salsa bar - love their avocado salsa as it's got a kick to it! Highly recommend their tinga chicken if you like a bit of spice! Service was great. Good selection of beverages.

Ale C.

Yelp
Great Food! Great Customer Service! We found this place a few weeks ago and so far we love it! Our go to is their carne asada burrito! I Love the salsa bar and drink options!
google avatar

Kathrine S.

Yelp
Always our go to for lunch. Fast service and friendly staff. I always get their carne asada and carnitas tacos with beans and rice. It always hit the spot.
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
Hole in the wall vibes, which in my opinion is how you know it's good. I got the carnitas which were amazing. Perfectly seasoned, moist. Huge portions too
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
It is a blessing to have a burrito place in walking distance. I love the veggie burrito this place makes, it's the perfect size, and a good price. You might miss this shop just driving by, so be on the lookout and stop in!
google avatar

Laurel H.

Yelp
Very nice people. Had no issues making my burrito keto friendly The chicken tinga burrito was really flavorful. I want to try their chili relleno next time. My partner had the carne asada burrito. The meat was a little tough but great flavor. The avocado sauce tasted so fresh! Beautiful flavor. I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Who has two thumbs and loves tacos? This girl! We were on the hunt for good tacos. So far we've found some fancy tacos, some not good tacos but this place is solid. The person taking our order was so detailed and read my order back to me. We tried tacos, loaded tots and burritos. I didn't eat all of that but I prob tried. The tacos were so good! Small but that just means you can eat more! I had the steak tacos and a Chiles rellenos burrito? They provide you with all the salads and a picked vegetables, jalapeños and carrots. It's definitely worth checking out if you've driven by here and I'm sure we will order again.

Heather W.

Yelp
Ordered delivery via DoorDash. My choice was carne asada burrito w/cheese sauce added. I really enjoyed the flavor added by the cheese sauce. Without it I might not have been satisfied. Also ordered my favorite drink indulgence, Jamaica. However, instead received horchata. Such a disappointment! I usually don't order drinks due to the big markup it's just not worth it. But, when I see Jamaica, my impulse over rides my common sense. By the time I saw the mistake the restaurant was already closed. Note to all restaurants: please consider adding the option of brown rice to your menu. So much healthier & less guilt inducing .
google avatar

Karyn E.

Yelp
Delicious! And so much food for the price. We are so excited to go back. The salsas were an awesome addition!
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
This place is delicious, always on point (even delivered) and no complaints. The burritos are WAY bigger now and the beans are so smoky and delicious. Coming from SoCal, it's hard to find amazing burritos, but they are here! Thank you for existing!

Christian C.

Yelp
Service great, and timely. Food was amazing and plentiful. Another thing I wanna say is that, this is one of the FEW if ANY places that actually STILL have they're salsa bar for one to grab what they want!!. I swear EVERY other place now charges extra for more salsa. NOT THIS PLACE! I hope that doesn't change kuz I will keep going back. Ide definitely recommend.
google avatar

Kristina M.

Yelp
The food here is excellent. I had the fried potato tacos and added birria on the top. It was heavenly. The place was clean and we received our food timely. I will definitely visit again when I'm in town.
google avatar

Dy S.

Yelp
Best tacos around... cool people running the back of the house.. wish they were open on the weekends hopefully they do soon
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Almost 5 stars! The food I had was delicious! I ordered through a 3rd party for delivery because I was sick. When the food arrived I was missing the MAIN thing I wanted to eat, the tater tot nachos. I called to inquire and they realized they had messed up and asked if I wanted to come pick it up. I didn't want to be out and about so I declined and they told me to reach out to the 3rd party. There was no apology which was unfortunate and I still haven't received a refund. My kids and I enjoyed the tacos, deep fried chili relleno burrito, and birria burrito. All of the flavors were amazing and everything was fresh! Also, 5-stars to all of the sauces that they sent. They were SO tasty.
google avatar

Jacob B.

Yelp
Very good chile relleno burrito and al pastor tacos. I added avocado sauce to the burrito and the combination was just right. The tacos had more meat than any other tacos I've ever had!

Monza S.

Yelp
Hole in the wall, clean, good service and good food. The menu is interesting, they have tater tots? Good tater tots but I wasn't expecting that! I am going back for a torta ahogada, so good!
google avatar

Jocelyn P.

Yelp
Nope, never ordering from here small burritos for 9 bucks this is a rip off, I'm probably going to return this
google avatar

Arianna T.

Yelp
Comida deliciosa!! This place is super cute! The hot salsa is HOT! I had the carne asada burrito and it was the perfect size for under $6. The meat was tender and the beans savory goodness!
google avatar

Tricia S.

Yelp
Oh boy! Was looking for a small taco stand and Yelp! directed me to Casa Del Sol. There was parking and the restaurant was clean and bright! They make delicious food - enough said. We got tacos (carne asada, carnitas, and pastor), taquitos, and bean/cheese burritos (kids) ... hot, flavorful, perfectly cooked! The salsa is on point and I used all 3 on my tacos. We took our food to go and it was ready in 10 minutes. Will definitely be back for more.
google avatar

Natasha K.

Yelp
Fun affordable food and the staff are amazing. Very kind with great customer service! Natasha
google avatar

Dayvid R.

Yelp
I just went for the shirt. The food was actually really good though! Al pastor burrito will feed two.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
I enjoyed their other location especially as they had a crock pot with stewed peppers and onions. While they don't have that here, the food is solid. What's kinda lame is they charge you $2 extra for any breakfast item after 1:00 p.m. Still, there's some value on the menu. Easy parking, kinda easy to miss when you're looking for it.
google avatar

Nena O.

Yelp
Ok ok I see you. Lol First of all, welcome to the neighborhood. I was missing all the taco trucks that used to be in Cully. Shout out to El Guero because he's still holding it down. Kudos on the name. I was pleasantly surprised. The pastor, asada and carnitas tacos were all on point. The red salsa is my favorite but they are all good. Im pretty sure the frijoles were like a light frijoles puercos with a simple rice. We'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Jon O.

Yelp
The food was alright, average flavor and taste for a Mexican joint. We had several things, torts, tacos, tots and tinga tostada. The service was decent, she forgot three things that we ordered so we had to reorder it a second time which slowed down the process. If I am going to spend $50 to feed four people, I'd expect it to be great and tasty, nope. Also, I found it odd that they wouldn't let us have a cup of water or ice when we bought food, that was disappointing as well. I'd go elsewhere for amazing Mexican food, because this isn't it.
google avatar

L M.

Yelp
Possibly the most solid Mexican food I've had in Portland. Been missing ca Mexican food and this hit the spot. Great meat and beans. Overall- will be back
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Best food ever!!! Salsas are so good and the tacos were amazing! We were there for a quick bite and it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Mykel B.

Yelp
Simple. Cheap but very good. We got pastor and veggie burrito with two drinks. They added the soyrizo into the veggie burrito.
google avatar

Edwin V.

Yelp
Best burritos in Portland! Highly recommend the chorizo con papas burrito and chicken tinga. Depending on which burrito I get I usually like to add rice and or beans in the burrito, which I also recommend. Love their salsas as well! Love this place!
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
I ordered the torta hogada and ordered a Kearny Sada burrito for my son this place is above five stars hands-down great customer service super bomb food!'
google avatar

Brisna T.

Yelp
Great taco spot, the people that work there are lovely. The salsa is delicious muy buenos tacos y salsa 10/10 stop by you won't regret it!
google avatar

Stephan D.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for authentic Mexican food, this is your spot. The ingredients are great, service is fast and it hits the spot every time. Dollar for dollar, this place is the cheap eats champion of Cully.
google avatar

Norma D.

Yelp
Buenos tacos, recommendable si invitan a regresar el lugar, good tacos yes, im.back to this place
google avatar

Kayleigh S.

Yelp
This is my favorite taco spot and I probably order delivery once a week. I'm addicted.
google avatar

Beef E.

Yelp
Soyrizo burrito plate. Vegetarians want protein too! Just a legit spot with the classics, burrito, taco, beans, rice, sopa, taquitos, etc. and hard working dude that cooks and does the register. Satisfied customer here
google avatar

Mo F.

Yelp
Happy to have just discovered this place. Had the Carnitas tacos which were stuffed full of pork. Very reasonably priced too. Will definitely be coming back tacos and to sample more of the menu.
google avatar

Beth J.

Yelp
"Seek, and ye shall find." A SoCal transplant, I am a taco snob. I've searched high and low for a decent taco restaurant that isn't some hipster mecca with a line out the door. I've finally found my love, tacos, in good form and delicious taste at Casa del Sol. Very flavorful food, the beans and rice are delicious rather than an afterthought like at most Mexican restaurants, and all I've been thinking about since I had Casa del Sol's tacos is when I'm going to have them again. So here I sit, on a Saturday (open regularly on Saturdays now, 10am-8pm), waiting for my tacos. And they're here. So I gotta go. Eat at Casa del Sol! You won't regret it!
