I was looking for a place to grab a quick hot drink - and my eyes happened upon Pinckney Cookie Cafe.
I've been trying to eat more healthy - staying away from cookies, and chocolates, my two greatest weeknesses. But... like a warm fire on a cold winter night, Pinckney Cookie Cafe's friendly red sign lulled me in - as if I were Caliban from Shakespeare's The Tempest:
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears; and sometime voices,
That, if I then had waked after long sleep,
Will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open, and show riches
Ready to drop upon me; that, when I waked,
I cried to dream again.
I didn't just buy one cookie. Or two. I almost bought one of each type - but... I reminded myself I'm trying to be good. So I bought 5. And just like the dreaming Caliban, the clouds did open, they showed riches, and when they those cookies were done: I cried to eat them again.
I've eaten a lot of cookies. Ranked them many times over. There are a lot of good ones out there - but Mr. Pinckney has truly perfected his recipe. He's intentional with his ingredients, and knows what he is doing. At 70 years old, he's giving the world one of the best things you can give it: happiness in the form of a cookie.
Eat them chilled, eat them warmed - however what you choose, the only wrong way is to say "no thanks."
