The 21 Essential Aspen Restaurants

"For you need a break from the Aspen scene, head out to the nearby ghost town of Ashcroft (about a 30 minute drive from the downtown core), where you can take a festive, picture-perfect sleigh ride, powered by Percheron draft horses, to lunch or dinner at Pine Creek Cookhouse. For a more adventurous experience, you can opt for snowshoes or cross-country skis, rentable upon arrival through Ashcroft Ski Touring. Either way, make your way to the restaurant’s prix-fixe feast, which features long-standing favorites like Rocky Mountain trout, wild elk, and oxtail ragu. Reservations are required." - Katie Shapiro

Great location/scenic views with nice outdoor seating. Nice interior design. Good service, but with a 20% gratuity automatically charged, good or bad service doesn't have an incentive to be better. Quality of food is mediocre for the price. You're paying for the view. I tried the Elk chops and liked it. At $89, it was just okay. My wife tried the salmon and again nothing great about it but it was overpriced.

Absolutely loved our visit! Excellent food with great service. Highly recommend the smoked trout dip. It’s delicious. I had the daily sandwich special which was pulled pork that day. So yummy! Everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed their food including my 3 year old granddaughter. The atmosphere is great. We loved exploring outside by the creek and small waterfall.

As an Aspen wedding photographer, Pine Creek Cookhouse is one of the most breathtaking venues I’ve had the joy of working at. Nestled in the heart of the Elk Mountain range, it offers sweeping views and an incredible ceremony site. Its remote location adds to the charm. There’s no cell service, which makes it feel like a private retreat where couples and their guests can unwind. The cozy log cabin, surrounded by wildflowers in summer, is paired with amazing food and service. PCC combines exclusivity, beauty, and warmth, making it such a special place to celebrate a wedding.

My wife and I had dinner here during a recent visit. My steak was cooked to perfection and here fish also cooked to perfection. We both had dessert me the brownie and here the apple strudel, excellent for both. The interior of the restaurant was very nice. Our view during dinner was probably the most beautiful view we have had at dinner.

My wife and I just enjoyed a great dinner here. I am not sure what the previous negative reviewers saw or had, but our experience was great. Solid food and drinks that satisfied our needs. The staff is great and very attentive to our table. The drive up this July day was phenomenal. Will come back again when in the area.

Excellent trout, salmon bowl, elk frankfurter and quinoa. Great ski junkie waiter and the views are astounding. Great 40-minute hike through meadows and aspen forests from the parking lot and the remnants of Ashcroft mining town.

Have eaten here serval times and have noticed the service is never very good. Our waiter was very short with us and kind of rude. A 20% tip is already included with the bill so they have no incentive to be nice to you or give you good service. Our waiter definitely did not deserve a 20% tip. He constantly ignored us when we were trying to flag him down to order stuff and was rude to my brother when he suggested lady’s should order first, our waiter said no and insisted my brother can start the ordering for dinner. The food was pretty good, not amazing but good. I got steak and I thought it was good, my dad & fiancé got the elk and liked it. My mom got fish and hated it though. Of course the views from the restaurant are amazing and the restaurant interior itself is a very cute log cabin style.

Come for the view… then eat the picnic you brought along! The service was brusque, the quail salad good, the trout dried out. The wine prices ridiculous. While the building is beautiful, the loud music ruins the ambiance.
