"For you need a break from the Aspen scene, head out to the nearby ghost town of Ashcroft (about a 30 minute drive from the downtown core), where you can take a festive, picture-perfect sleigh ride, powered by Percheron draft horses, to lunch or dinner at Pine Creek Cookhouse. For a more adventurous experience, you can opt for snowshoes or cross-country skis, rentable upon arrival through Ashcroft Ski Touring. Either way, make your way to the restaurant’s prix-fixe feast, which features long-standing favorites like Rocky Mountain trout, wild elk, and oxtail ragu. Reservations are required." - Katie Shapiro

My wife and I just enjoyed a great dinner here. I am not sure what the previous negative reviewers saw or had, but our experience was great. Solid food and drinks that satisfied our needs. The staff is great and very attentive to our table. The drive up this July day was phenomenal. Will come back again when in the area.

Such a fun experience. We opted for the horse-drawn sleigh, which was amazing (even in 7 degrees weather). We bundled up, had a beautiful ride to the restaurant, and were able to select from a pre-fixe menu. The Hot Toddy will warm your insides - and the bourbon pecan pie won’t hurt either! A must-do!

They add in a 20% gratuity even for small parties, which could explain the lackluster service, but it's really hard to be this bad even when your tip is guaranteed. One refill on our fountain drinks in 75 minutes. We asked multiple service staff and were brushed off like a diet coke was some kind of big request. Our waiter disappeared for huge stretches of time, and no one else was willing to assist. Thank goodness the Duck Bahn Mi and steak sandwich we ordered were delicious, or Pine Creek wouldn't have broken past 2 stars. It is nice they allow dogs, and their view is pretty good. But wow, what a crap waiter.

This is a very special place. It's worth the trip for the food alone, but the setting in the middle of the woods is truly one of a kind. If you can, cross country ski or snow shoe to the restaurant so you can experience the beauty of the mountains under starlight.

Fantastic experience! (Cross-country) ski-in ski-out amazing lunch. Set menu choose starter and main course. Yes there are vegan options. Highly recommend aspen experience! Great service, respectable wine list. Sense of place 10/10.

We fell in love with the view at Pine Creek Cookhouse and knew this was the perfect location for our intimate destination wedding. What we didn't know ahead of time, was how incredible the food, service, and staff would be on our wedding day. I work in the event industry in South Florida and the experience we had on our wedding day, from the food to the service, was on par with the best luxury hotels in Miami. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. Johnny underpromised and overdelivered on everything. We cannot thank the team at Pine Creek enough for making our wedding day the best day of our lives.

Incredible view of mountains from the restaurant! $45~ 2 course meal for lunch! We ordered a salmon patte and cheese fruit platter for sharing. Both dishes were exquisite! 2 course meal, you can choose salad or soup and I ordered the salad which was delicious. As a main, I ordered the venison sandwich which was good too! After I tried elk sausage and I regretted my order. - since it was outside the table, the flies were a little bit annoying.

OMG!!! Foodie heaven in an exquisite setting overlooking the Castle Creek valley. If you sit inside, you can observe Chef personally review each dish prior to it being served to each guest. It is fun to watch this well synchronized “show” as each server, assistant chef, and top notch staff follows Chef’s lead in the final preparation of each plate. Each dish is an over-the-top unforgettable tasting delight. The first course (salad or soup) is spectacular! You can choose appetizers a La carte, and/or just go into the second course choice of elk, trout, bratwurst, venison, chicken, and more. As part of your itinerary, enjoyed this delicious dining adventure after before or after a castle creek walk which is close to the restaurant. Or, take a horseback ride with cowboys (arranged through the restaurant June -Sept). Indeed, casual attire is perfectly acceptable as many people walked the 2-3 mile dirt trail along castle creek, like we did, before they came in for this rewarding delectable 3 course price-fixed lunch. The restaurant is a rustic mountain lodge-like building with all wood decor, including a nice big wood bar where you can opt for an a la carte dining experience. Sitting outside on any of the patios is a very special treat since every seat has an incredible view, and dogs are welcomed. Bottom line, This is dining treat when visiting the Aspen area. Reservations are a must (months in advance) since it is a well known gourmet treat nestled amongst the aspens and castle creek views. Unforgettable delicious food. Bravo!
