The Best Seafood Markets In Boston

"Apparently the Pine River is located in New Hampshire, which is confusing since this seafood market is located right off Route 60 in Revere. Then again, the Jazz play in Utah, so maybe location isn’t that important after all. In any case, this bare bones spot has been selling seafood to the surrounding communities for decades. Most of the fish is in fillet form (so look elsewhere if you need the whole catch), and they’ve also got a couple of tanks filled with lobster. Just be sure to double check the GPS before you visit - you don’t want to end up in Zion National Park." - joel ang

Visiting friends in Boston, I’m pretty sure we shopped at Pine River fish market every single day for fresh seafood, my last visit 12/8 I decided to bring some lobster and clams back to Wisconsin, Pine River packaged the lobster and clams in a flight box that I was able to carry onto my flight, my husband was so excited and we have had a couple wonderful lobster dinners along with homemade clam chowder. I can’t say enough about this fish market. They are fantastic people with amazing sea food! Thank you so much, I’ll see you soon. Rose

Oh Boy!!! First time in A LONG time am I having fresh shucked oysters!!! Except, at Pine River, I was educated about the taste and what to expect, which I thought was so cool.... We had 4 of each and came home and had a Grand time eating.... My favorite was the papi'Grande! 🦪 Yumm-O.... Can't wait for our next trip to Boston!!!

Google
The best place to buy fresh lobsters. They also sell fresh fish, shrimp, clams and muscles. I also recommend the scampi butter for an easy meal it’s everything you need in one container to sauté shrimp and add pasta.

Google
This place is great, they have they freshest seafood you can buy. They've been in business for years for good reason. I've never gone in there and had a bad experience. There honest, polite, and always down to talk, if your in they area, and you like fresh seafood, check then out, they steam your lobsters as well, you only have to call, they have they best prices around, you won't find your lobsters cheaper or fresher than you get here. I had they pleasure of talking to Nicole today, she's one of there best employees.

Family owned business run by the second generation running this business. The atmosphere is traditional and gives you authentic vibe. Pine River Fish Market provides wide variety of fresh fish. The lady was very friendly and informative. I got fresh salmon and red sniper. They offer Sashami/Sushi quality fish on demand. Highly recommended.

Google
My all time favorite local fish market. It's amazing to find a little shack with fresh fish and great prices so close to the city. Always a deal on a dozen oysters. My favorites are steamers, tuna, salmon, and of course lobster. They have it all, depending on the season.

Yelp
Called ahead to see if I could purchase 5 lobsters, 2lbs each for the 4th of July, cooked. They were very accommodating and let me know they would do their best to get it done in the time I needed. I went in a couple hours later and they had them cooked and ready to go! When we cracked them open, the lobsters were delicious and cooked to perfection. We always see lines out the door when we drive by, and now I understand why! Can't wait to try other items from them!

Yelp
When in Boston, treat yourself to the best Fish Market going. What a great place. Fun happy service. FRESH everything
google avatar

Yelp
The best fish around. I buy all my fresh fish from them. I also buy fresh crabs and lobster from them. They have been there for years nice people who own it and work there. Freshes fish at the very good prices. You have to buy the crab cakes and the stuffed clams.

Yelp
With our last night in Massachusetts, my husband wanted to have lobster one more time. He ended up deciding to come to Pine River Fish Market. He came here without me since I was exercising at the gym at the hotel we were staying. My husband ended up purchasing a lobster that cost $24.70 total. The reason why he did pick this fish market because they steam the lobster (which cost an extra $0.50/ lb + $0.75 fee). This lobster was sweet and tender. It was delicious and I enjoyed it. My husband (and our little girl dog) enjoyed it. Being one of the fish markets in the area that steams the lobster (since we were not staying in a room with a kitchen), we would probably come back if we staying at the same hotel visiting New England again in the future.

Yelp
My family have been going to this fish market for over 30 years! The quality, freshness, pricing, and service has been stupendous! I moved to West Roxbury and still make the trip to Pine River as often as I can, The absolute best!!!!

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. everytime we're in town visiting family, we always come here for their fresh lobsters & they even pack/box up your lobster(s) if you are flying out, TSA approved, no questions asked.

Robert M.

Yelp
Excellent fresh seafood. Not a restaurant. Prices higher if you use a credit card.

Yelp
I have been going here for years and just recently had a horrible experience. The lady that has 5 kids and probably in her 50s/60s should never comment on anyone's body. She asked me when I was due, as if I was pregnant. I am not pregnant, (I'm 180 and 5'2) and have been struggling with weight issues my entire life. It would be common sense not to bring that up even if a woman is visibly pregnant. It's not your business, it's rude and disrespectful. I will have to find a new fish market to go to because now I will just feel so uncomfortable going there..
google avatar

Yelp
This is an amazing place. I am staying with hotel across the road and accidentally discovered the shop. The lobsters are so fresh and good. The house cooked my order and I tasted the authentic taste of Boston lobster, killing these restaurants.

Yelp
Best place around for fresh market fish ! Nice selection good service and resonable prices! Old school biz

Yelp

Yelp
I love this place. Freshest fish I've found in the area. Good prices, and a good variety of oysters, clams, shrimp, and fish. Good prices too.

Muhammad T.

Yelp
Expensive but fish was okay and service was good and selection of fish wasn't as much as I expected.

Yelp
Have lived in the area all my life and never was a frequent shopper at Pine River, then one day my aunt mentioned how cheap they were & I should go, Now I always knew it was there but like other reviews the place is soo small you would pass it if you didnt know it was there... so I went to try it out & sure enough... BEST PLACE EVER... Always has the best Lobster & Steamers... Never have sand issues with steamers like other places... Lobster is always cheaper by $1or$2 then other stores or markets... The owners are always super nice, the smell of the place gets me soo into the mood for seafood... If you are pulling up to the place just pull right up on the sidewalk but be careful the cars flying by will hit you if you open your door too wide into AmLeg Hwy... A great try, you wont be sorry!

Maria R.

Yelp
The best seafood and the freshet around, great costumer service!! Thank Stephanie!! Maria R.

Yelp
Don't go anywhere else but here for seafood!! By far the best place to buy fresh seafood at the best price! The staff here is super knowledgeable and treats you like family! You know it's good when the locals come here! They even steam! So happy I found this place!! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I went to Pine River Fish Market on Tuesday afternoon (12/24/19) to purchase some Lobster Meat. The store was crowded which you would expect. While I was waiting one of the staff walked by behind the counter and I asked him what the price of the lobster meat was. He said "turn around and read it on the board" and walked away. I thought that was very rude. Another staff member helped me who was very nice. I asked her who that person was on she said "he is the boss." I have gone in that market many, many times but never seen him before. After I paid for the lobster meat I stopped him and said "you were very rude to me when I asked you for a price for lobster meat. I come in here quite often". He said "next time go to Market Basket". I said "No problem" and left. I won't be going there anymore.

Yelp
When I am in Revere, this is my go to for fresh fish and seafood. Why go to a supermarket where it is days old, because it has to go through a warehouse. Prices are right
google avatar

Dieter L.

Yelp
I live a half hour drive away from this awesome little shop, but it's absolutely worth it. The other seafood shops in Boston/Brookline are either overly expensive, snobbish, or non-existent. Pine River is a simple ol' traditional shop with great prices, very fresh seafood, a big variety to choose from, and friendly staff. As an example, their scallops are sold dry-Packed. For those who don't know the difference, dry-packed scallops are quite uncommon but are superior to the artificial preservative/adulterated wet-packed stuff they sell at your typical grocery store. Dry-pack scallops are the same ones you get when you order them seared at nice restaurants. The fact that they exclusively sell these says a lot.

Yelp
The women is extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. While there is this guy who doesn't show up often mess up with my order twice, one time he suffocated all the shells by sealing the bag firmly, and included two large stone in it, the other time he sold me an almost dying lobster.
google avatar

Michelle Ann C.

Yelp
Pine River fishmarket has been in Revere for so many years and they always have the freshest fish around and their prices are very reasonable. Every day they have fresh fish delivered and I have yet to have a bad experience with them in 40+ years.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little fish market. Everything was very fresh and they even packed the cooler for me.
google avatar

Sondra L.

Yelp
Since moving to the east coast this is by far my favorite place. The seafood is always fresh, the staff knows their product and it takes great!
google avatar

Yelp
The customer service is awful. They talk to me like I'm bothering them. A big NO for me.
google avatar

Christopher H.

Yelp
I come here all the time and have generally been very happy. Went by today and picked up lobsters. Asked for quarters and they gave me chix and two culls (missing claws). Didn't know until I got home and opened up the bag. Very disappointing to pay a premium and to get the bottom rung. Can no longer recommend them.

Yelp
After reading the reviews on Yelp the bf and I stopped here after landing at Logan en route to Vermont to introduce him to the family (yikes). We got stuck in totally annoying typical Boston clusterf*ck traffic trying to get out of town, and yet, I would do it all over again to have the seafood from Pine River. We got lost finding the place, and after a quick call the guy guided us in and was super friendly and helpful. They even gave us a Styrofoam box to put our goods in for the road, which was great due to above mentioned traffic from hell (and which I recycled to my sister). When we FINALLY got to my mom's house I was totally fried, but we got it going, and OH MY GOD. It was the best seafood I have ever had, and I lived in Boston for 7 years. New England for 26. We had three 1.5 lb lobsters, 2 lbs steamers, a dozen oysters and 2 stuffed clams, oh and a chowder from the crock-pot for the road (yum) for around $60. Did I mention that it was the best seafood I've ever had? And we really didn't do anything special to cook it. In the pot you go you succulent crustaceans. Well worth the side trip. I just now will never know if my mother really did actually like the bf or if she had her lobster goggles on.

Yelp
A wonderful, family owned fish market right here in our own little wonderul Revere! My girlfriend and I recently discovered this gem of an establishment and have kept going back for more! Pine River is a cute little store that is so charming by it's quaint nature alone. The product is incredibly fresh, the prices are more than reasonable, the folks who work there are super friendly and helpful. Recommendations are the steamers ( try making them into drunken steamers by adding Sam Adams! ), lobster, and the cooked crabs....all delicious! What's also cool about Pines River is that the folks who work there are very good at giving cooking dunces such as myself instructions about how to cook their product once you get 'em home....check out Pines River Guys.....I promise you won't regret it!

Yelp
This place rocks, great fresh seafood. Very honest and Nice people working here. A gal helped me last time I didn't get her name but she is awesome.

Yelp
Its a little hard to get to/park, but once youre there you are golden. Its a small shack right on the road but the seafood is fresh and not super expensive. Not really sure where the parking is, but you can find a space. When I went in, there were 2 women working, both extremely friendly and helpful. I got a good size filet of pollock for $4.99/lb. Other fishes were haddock, scrod, tuna and salmon. They also have steamers, mussels snails, lobsters etc. I also got a stuffed clam which was really good, and im glad i got it for $1.39, wich was a good price for the size of it. Needless to say, I will be back. Oh and they accept credit cards, yay.

Yelp
When I was on vacation in Connecticut a few weeks ago, we drove past a small fish market every day. I made myself accustomed to eating oysters every day (not a cheap habbit). When I came back, I started searching for a similar fish market near my home. Low and behold, Pine River Fish Market exists and is right near my work! I stopped in on mid-afternoon on a Saturday to check out the good. They had some oysters left, but plenty of delicious looking fish. We grabbed a dozen oysters for $9 and a pound of tuna for $9 as well. The oysters were pretty good - some were a little small, but they were tasty and cheap. The tuna was also really good - it had a little bit of fat, but was still succulent after a quick seer. The employees were wicked nice and friendly. The biggest issue is parking - it's not easy to grab a spot in the lot, but there are some side streets you can park on. This was definitely a positive experience and I can't wait to go back.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Pine River is such a great find. They are so helpful, and have the freshest selection around. The pricing isn't outrageous and you are getting the best quality fish. The stuffed Quahogs are unbelievable, do yourself a favor and try them! We order here for Christmas Eve as well as pick up some Tuna steaks for a random Tuesday night. They have even been able to find us the elusive swordfish chop. So lucky to have a place like this right in our back yard!
google avatar

Irene S.

Yelp
Very small and far from where I live but worth the drive. Always has the freshest fish. If your looking for shellfish look no more. They even have crab which is very difficult to locate. Sometimes more often than not. I call them and have them hold my order and when I arrive they are always so friendly and accommodating. Prices are reasonable and never more than market.

Deborah G.

Yelp
For the second year in a row Nicole at Pine River fishmarket went above and beyond to send stuffed quahogs and clam chowder to us in Seattle so we could enjoy them at our seven fishes Christmas Eve dinner. Having lived in Revere where we grew to love Pine River seafood and missing it in Seattle, we'll feel right at home Christmas Eve! Nicole communicated closely with me several times about how to send the seafood and ended up making a special trip to the post office in order to save me money since the PO was less expensive than FedEx. I was amazed at her kindness and thoughtfulness at a time of year when the fishmarket is extremely busy. Thank you, Nicole - we will be loyal customers for years to come because of your high quality seafood, excellent service and genuine care for your customers.

Yelp
The Pine River Fish Market had some really good clams in supply and offer them at a great value. On a trip up to New Hampshire for the weekend, I wanted to pick up some clams for grilling. Its a relatively small shop, and a bit of a pain to get to if you're coming from Revere beach, bit the quality of the clams were top notch. I was able to get 50 clams for under $40 I believe. They also have oysters and lobsters as well as various cuts of fish. I do not know if the fish is "sushi grade" but I will have to ask and update this review next time I go.

Yelp
I so far have tried thier haddock, cherry stones, mussels little necks, love it so fresh, .......yummy yum,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I got 40 bucks worth yesterday and it made a ridiculous amount, prices are good, considering how fresh and yummy it is, its cheap .....................................................and considering what you pay for seafood if you eat out . last time i was there they had some shell there for sale to make your own stuffed clams, or bleach and use in your green thumb endeavors whihc is what I did with them, now yesterday i bought the mini forks and the special knife to open the clams, too................and the clam juice they sell there I bought too, I made this seafood diablo with three cut up baked sphaghetti squashes instead the pasta, ..........i am 110 and its not from eating whatever i want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike T.

Yelp
Always fresh....always great service...can't beat the quality or the prices.....only place we get our seafood

Yelp
I use to live in Peabody Mass and I would buy seafood from them all the time .It was the best seafood I have ever had in my life . I shopped there for over 20 years and was never disappointed . Know that I moved to Florida , I can not get seafood down here that I bought from them . I miss them so much it hurts. I hope that they will make an exception and ship to me in Florida .I do not care how much it costs . If you are looking for fresh seafood , that is the place to go . Very friendly . Yelp
This fish market is so small you could easily drive right past it. There is just one refrigerated case and a few lobster tanks. The selection of fish is not as vast as at other places but the quality of what they have is top notch. My last visit I picked up two culls (lobsters with one claw) for just $3.99lb and ten crab claws at just 25 cents each. I was glad to see they take debit. My only issue was the fact the man working there paid more attention to his personal call than he did to me.

Mike P.

Yelp
This is by far the freshest seafood that you can get anywhere around and there prices are cheaper than anybody else by far for instance lobsters 8.49lb @ pine River stop n shop 12.99 .. market basket 10.99 big difference can't beat there prices they don't jack up the prices and the guys that work there they know there fish and if you need a certain kind of fish that they don't have just asked Mike to go get it for you in town he will!!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Lobster meat was $35 a pound and live lobsters were $5 a pound. If I wasn't lazy I could've saved some money. This place is an old school fish market, no frills and nothing fancy. Just good fish at a decent price.
google avatar

Dhaval M.

Yelp
Stopped in after asking a friend about where to get scallops and fish. Got haddock and scallops and both were excellent. Will definitely be my source for seafood going forward.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Great deal on seafood. I always get my Cherrystones from them for my BBQs. The lobsters are pretty decently priced too. Family owned versus the big corporations. Overall a nice bunch of people running a straight and forward business. I will keep going to them as long as there is such thing as BBQs.

D L.

Yelp
Well, good luck in talking to the manager or owner. I tried calling at 11:00 AM - reached someone who was too busy and he hung-up on me. He actually told me "I'm too busy, call back later." Click. I called back in mid-afternoon and tried again, thinking I'd avoid the lunch-hour rush and talk to someone before the dinner rush, etc. The guy who answers the phone keeps hanging up on me! If you're the owner, you are turning away business. If you are an employee, you better hope I don't find out who the owner is because if you worked for me, you'd be out on your rear-end for treating customers like that!
google avatar

Sergio R.

Yelp
Amazing prices!!! Love the lobsters and clams. Very nice family too...
google avatar

Vladimir V.

Yelp
The selection is really good, but sometimes the shells can be not really fresh. But overall this place is really good, but not perfect.

Clark L.

Yelp
Edward R. is right; very nice people, and they know seafood! Whatever you prefer, they likely have it. I buy lobster bodies ($1/body) to make a fra diavolo base, and make so much that I freeze it buy the quart. You can pull a frozen quart out, leave it on the counter before work, and when you get home you have defrosted sauce to put up over fresh pasta with your choice of Pine River's fish. Any fish will do with this, prepared the way you prefer. PR's chopped clams is great economical choice, but again, any of their offerings will make a great meal for you or an unexpected guest or guests. Buy fresh or defrost frozen shrimp for an appetizer, and you have a simple, quick, delicious meal. Bon Appétit!
