I made it a point to come try this because they advertised having Santa Maria style tritip. I'm from Santa Maria, California so this was really exciting to me so i just had to make the trip out. I orderd the sampler plate for 2.
Sadly the tri tip was nothing like back home. Back home we season tri tip with Susie Q seasoning and then cook the tri tip over red oak coals on a grill that you can control the hight of via winch. We also only cook it to medium rare and serve it with a salsa on top. Sadly this was just like any other Texas style bbq smoke house. The tri tip was well done, had no seasoning, and there was no salsa to go with it. It wasnt terrible, but it absolutely was nothing like i was hoping it to be. :(
Everything else was ok, but they were out of ao many things i was kind of shocked. Their cowboy beans were tasted like Busch's Baked Beans with some brisket chunks in it. Ive never had cowboy beans that were sweet, not for me, but i could see the appeal. The ribs were pretty good! I actually really liked the sauce that went on the rib, not too sweet :) the coleslaw was also jot very sweet which i was very happy about, very fresh and crisp! I hate cornbread, but my table seemed to like it. The chicken was way better than i was expecting it to be, a little dry in aome areas but very tender and had a good taste. The sausage i got was also very tasty.
Overall the outdoor seating was nice and shaded and they did check on our table so i thought the service was nice.
All in all, i personally will not be back for the tri tip, but if i needed some tasty ribs and a good coleslaw, i know where to go.
