The 16 Best Lobster Rolls In Maine - Portland, ME - The Infatuation

"Pine Tree uses a longer hot dog roll instead of your standard length New England bun, but that allows them to serve lots of lobster meat and lettuce without each bite causing a huge mess. Consider this a peak sharable roll—ask them to double the lobster if you want a filling meal for two, or are just extra hungry yourself. Pine Tree also has some fresh produce, local craft beer, and grilling planks, so it should definitely be one of your first stops before you’re thrown into a family trip where you have to share a room with your cousin who’s really into sailing. And at around $25, this is one of the most affordable rolls on this guide." - anne cruz, carlo mantuano

Google
Fast, friendly service and one of the best lobster rolls I've had in all of New England. Big, buttered, toasted bun. Fresh, tender lobster meat and very light mayo with a little bit of lettuce - the perfect amount. Highly recommended! (The cooked shrimp is great too)

Google
This is our first time trying Pine Tree Seafood. we were calling multiple places that are about to close in an hour, but they were not able to accommodate our order, which is understandable since it takes time. Pine Tree said it's ok we can take care of your order and was very friendly and helpful about it. The lobster and clams were cooked perfectly. The staff is very nice and full of smiles. Thank you for our wonderful dinner we will come back again.

Google
It’s time to provide feedback! I don’t usually provide feedback but it’s hard to ignore the high quality of seafood you sell. I’ve bought lobsters already cooked in the past and it’s absolutely delicious and fresh! Then, I purchased 12 hard shell lobsters to bring to Arizona. The lobsters were still alive despite the delay on my flights and in a box for 48hours. The lobsters were well packed and with no leaks. The staffs were extremely helpful and friendly! Please tip them as they work really hard! Thank you for a consistent A+ experienced!!!

Google
We stop in every time we visit Maine! Amazing seafood and a super helpful, friendly staff. Learned how to shuck an oyster here and their lobster roll is top notch! Small market with some unique items and surprisingly good wine. Love Pine Tree!

Google
Seafood couldn't be fresher. Staff is amazing. Go early as this is a hot spot. Busy from the time they open to close. Dont forget to try their smoked fish

Google
After a long, sweaty day doing field work a few years ago, we made the executive decision to stop by Pine Tree Seafood ... and let me tell you, that lobster roll was the bomb.com. Perfectly buttered, just the right amount of mayo (none of that soggy mess), and chunks of sweet, fresh lobster that hit like a reward from the sea gods. We sat inside, still dirty but no one cared, and it somehow made it taste even better. If you're in the area and need something to make your day 10x better, this is your move. I still dream about going back for this sandwich on a special trip. Biologist field work fuel, certified.

Google
Really good! The lobster roll is generous and the New England clam chowder was rich and flavorful. Will come back again to try the other items!

Google
This place called pine tree lobster. The place located in the main street and it has so many choices of lobsters hard shell soft shell and prawn, clamp, oyster and even sashimi. The place is small and it has a small backyard to enjoyed the fresh lobster. Their clamp chowder also nice. Place are clean and have a handicap parking at the back

Yelp
Top Lobster roll in our 2025 crawl. Cutie pie store, super friendly staff and fresh tasty sweet lobster in a big buttered roll. The meat was so tasty and the price is right. 24.99 for 4 ounces. Heaven! We do an annual crawl and this by far is our fav spot. The photo is the larger roll, 34.99

Yelp
We were hoping to score one last lobster roll before heading out of Maine and happened to spot Pine Tree Seafood as we were driving down the road. We ordered a cup of clam chowder that was rich, flavorful and chocked full of clams!! The lobster roll was "other worldly" it was sooooo gooood! The little side of the road places will beat out the tourist trap places every single time!! So glad we stopped here!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely perfect lobster roll. Fresh, nothing to overpower the delicate flavor of lobster. Dining is either take out, or al fresco on one of the picnic benches outside. Establishment is primarily a fresh seafood store with epicurean products. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Awesome clam chowder and the fish was so fresh. I bought some Maine haddock. I wasn't a fan of the crab cakes, too dry but I will be back for more fish and clam chowder. I also Bought a live lobster Delish!
google avatar

Lee F.

Yelp
The place is more of a market than a restaurant. Nevertheless, the Lobster Roll was tasty. It came with plenty of lobster meat. They have picnic tables outside if you want to eat on the premises. I think most people take it to go. Anyway, it was a beautiful day in Portland, Maine.

Yelp
This spot is a cute and charming gem of local baked goods, fresh produce, and live and kicking lobsters! But the highlight is their seafood rolls without a doubt. I couldn't decide between their lobster, shrimp, crab, crab cake, smoked salmon rolls... the list goes on. I ended up getting the lobster roll and crab roll and they are MIGHTY DELICIOUS. The roll was toasted and buttery. The seafood was fresh and sweet. I love that the crab roll had a hint of wasabi, it was a subtle flavor that enhanced the seafood experience. And the lobster roll was packed with meat. I will surely come back for more to try. And the price is right for the amount of food you are eating, unbeatable prices!

Yelp
A great place to buy local seafood that is super fresh. Prices are reasonable and staff is knowledgeable.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Amazing Maine seafood. I especially enjoyed the Jonah Crab roll and clam chowder. Quick and friendly service. No indoor seating but there is a picnic table outside. It's a small spot by the side of the road, well-marked.

Yelp
We stop by Pine Tree from time to time for the lobster and sushi grade fish. I bought a pound of sushi grade tuna for poke bowls and fish was delicious- so fresh. I also purchased a container of fresh crab for crab sushi and omelets for the filling day. The service is helpful and knowledgeable. It is a grocery store with lots of premium quality products as well as being a fish store. It's kind of fun.

Yelp
I've been coming here for quite a while. Really fresh seafood and lobster meat. Had the lobster roll and crab roll... and both were superb! Not too crazy about the haddock chowder but enjoyed the clam chowder. Service is friendly as always.

Yelp
For a fresh, loaded lobster roll & excellent chowder, come here. You can also pick up sashimi quality fish, huge scallops, frozen dumplings & pierogi, raw goat milk, sake & wine, some pies & whoopie pies, produce, & more here too. The foot long lobster rolls were well worth the upcharge for extra lobster. Mine was so loaded that I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
Lobster Roll was 11/10. Perfectly toasted fresh roll (not a hot dog roll!!) lettuce, butter and lobster. Extra meat. Staying in OOB, came out here based on town facebook page recommendations. Only a 13 minute drive and worth it!! Folks working there are super friendly. If you like seafood, this is the place to go. Also has selection of bakery, candy and other speciality items z
google avatar

Yelp
Doing this review while still stuffing my face with the extra meat lobster roll. As others have stated, this place is a seafood shop and a mini store. They have a wall of lobster tanks with reasonable prices for the lobsters (better than my local supermarket). There's sake, wine and drinks here. Think a pit stop for the beach and camping. We picked out the extra meat lobster on a buttered and grilled roll 10/10, a cup of clam chowder 10/10 (lots of clams and thick soup), along with a fresh Maine blueberry pie (later tonight for you my pretty). I'm usually not a cold lobster fan. I like, no LOVE a lot of butter on my lobster. This was a shocking surprise as it was absolutely delicious as is (even for this butter freak). My partner and I talked about going back before we leave for more! Hehehe

Yelp
We always come here for our lobster roll, soups and fresh fish. Everything is fresh and good pricing.

Yelp
Best clam chowder I've had in a long time. Thick with lots of clams. Good sized lobster roll for the price. Lots of good items for purchase in the store and good looking fresh fish selection. Friendly, fast service. Will def be back!

Ricardo S.

Yelp
We have coming here for years and never thought to share how truly amazing this place is. Just about every week or so we get fresh swordfish or salmon and we've never been dissatisfied. High end quality consistently provided for our wonderful at home date nights. Thanks for always being there!

Yelp
First, the owner Jim is extremely friendly and hires great staff. I live in Houston, Texas and come here to visit my father. I have never gotten such fresh tasting and amazing seafood. The oysters are the absolute best, I've ordered and eaten every one they have. They are bright, fresh, and briney. I love Maine oysters! The baked scallops are insanely tasty and way better than what we had at local restaurants. Finally, live lobster!! We got 6 pounds of live lobster and made a pasta with pen and steamed the other 2. It was truly a meal to be remembered. Huge fan of this place and will always return when I visit.

Yelp
I stopped in to get a lobster roll yesterday after seeing the stellar reviews on them, and I was not disappointed! This is a small fish market/ specialty food shop with a lot of local products su

Yelp
Great place to grab seafood and other local items. The lobster roll was really good, but kinda pricey.

Sharon C.

Yelp
Visiting Maine for my Mother's Day weekend with my daughter...I was disappointed our original plans fell through, but alas, we found Pine Tree Seafood and it turned out to be the best day ever! Thank goodness for this amazing local seafood place! Hands down, best lobster roll I have ever had! Can't stop thinking about it! The store is small, but perfectly stocked with anything you could possibly want...including the blueberry pies from Two Fat Cats! Excellent customer service, freshly made, reasonably priced and most importantly, local family owned! We will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the smoked mussels in garlic and olive oil. Milder than those ones you get in a tin. Worth the money! Nice selection of foodie products too.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere, the lobster roll is was phenomenal. It is definitely worth the drive to get.

Yelp
Beautiful warm lobster roll with little mayo. Loved the toasted roll the amount of lobster and reasonable price.

Yelp
We went here so I could get some seafood takeout while we were camping. The young man who answered the phone when I placed my order was super polite and answered all of my questions without rushing me off the phone. I showed up at the time I had specified that I wanted my order ready and they had everything ready and packed up nicely. I got the Pine Tree Picnic which included a lobster, some steamers and a cup of chowder (I picked shrimp and corn chowder but they also had haddock or clam to choose from). They're also a fish market so while I was in the store I couldn't help but pick up a large fillet of haddock to cook when we got home. They also sold a lot of other items like local beers, snacks and other products that were tempting but I was trying to keep costs down so I didn't pick up any of those things. My haddock and Pine Tree Picnic came to about $50 which was an ok price in my book. The chowder was amazing and the lobster was cooked just fine. I asked for extra butter and I don't know if they accommodated the request but I had plenty for my meal. However, the reason this place only gets 4 stars instead of 5 from me was mainly due to the clams. They were tiny and SO dirty. No matter how much I rinsed them in water there was so much grit in them. I could even feel it on my fingers which is just really unappetizing. I got a much better value in Ogunquit last week when I got 2 lobsters and the cleanest, sweetest clams ever for only $42. All in all I definitely would recommend this place but maybe skip the steamers or ask them to wash them again (and maybe another time on top of that).

Yelp
After reading all the hype about the Lobster Roll from Pine Tree Seafood & Produce I finally had the chance to stop in with my son this past week and the lobstah rolls were phenomenal! We each got a roll with extra meat and the lobster was so sweet and delicious. Your not going to get a lot of mayo here just enough to hold it together and let the lobster shine in all its glory. Mmmmmm they were so good! I also got a bowl of the Shrimp and Corn Chowder that was creamy and good. Not sure the next time I'll find myself in the area, but you can be sure if we are we will definitely be coming back to Pine Street for more spectacular Lobster Rolls!
google avatar

Casey J.

Yelp
I love Pine Tree. The seafood is always top notch and so is the customer service. When having people from out of town come to visit, I always make it a point to bring them there and let them shop around. The staff is wicked friendly and everything there is amazing. My husband loves the smoked salmon!

Dylan F.

Yelp
Great food great service the fish and everything else is really fresh! Lots of 90s music very nice place I like the truck outside.
google avatar

Janie D.

Yelp
Charming seafood market, stocked with fresh local catches, and artisan products from various Maine companies. They also have a good selection of Asian sauces that are not commonly found in the area. We left with Lobster, Shrimp, and Crab Rolls, as well as a glass bottle of Smiling Hill Farm milk, and a pumpkin spice whoopie pie. I loved the simplicity of the rolls, which allowed the high quality of the seafood to shine. The hint of wasabi in the crab brought it to the next level, and the lobster was juicy and buttery. My only complaint was the distractingly dry, slightly stale bread. Next time, I would buy the seafood on its own and make my own rolls. Staff were genuinely friendly, and everything was priced fairly. Definitely worth a stop, whether you are a local or a tourist.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
It was very clean and seafood focused little market. It's small but offers a variety of items, from local beer to farm fresh milk. Everything was fresh. You can see lobsters swimming in the tank. They are happy to steam them for you. The large soft shell lobster was big enough for one person. The staff was very patient and answered all of our questions. We got a lobster roll and crab cake sandwiches too. The lobster roll was really good and big. Definitely coming back if we are ever in this area again.

Michael W.

Yelp
Wonderful small market. Very nice sized lobster roll at a very reasonable price. They also carry products local to area. Liked so much, I stopped by again heading to my return flight from PWM.
google avatar

Helen Z.

Yelp
This is a nice little shop with lobsters, oysters, and other seafood offerings. They also have wine and other beverages as well as sauces to pair with the seafood, which most people seem to take home to prepare. We opted to dine in and ordered a bunch of oysters for $2+$1 shucking fee each, a lobster roll (cheaper than most), clam chowder, and a couple of enormous cocktail shrimp. Everything was delicious and the oysters, which are locally sourced, were incredibly fresh. There was a shelf of baked goods with pies that were very tempting that I may go back for.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches. We went as soon as the market opened and had quick customer service. Hope to return soon.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! No place to sit, it's all takeout. We ate in the car and it was delicious. Had the lobster roll and a bowl of shrimp and corn chowder. Everything was very very good! Can't wait to return to Maine.
google avatar

Ana P.

Yelp
Made it 10 minutes before closing and boy I'm glad I did! The lobster roll was huge and scrumptiou, as was the filling haddock chowder. Everything is reasonably priced. I hope to go back again to try the other items on the menu. The store is cute with all the condiments, sauces, some veg needed for a good seafood dinner.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Nice family owned seafood market with a great selection of locally caught fish, clams, lobster and more. Reasonably priced. Can also pick up a bottle of wine while you're there.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this place, we came here a year ago and really loved it, but this time was not good. We ordered a bunch of sandwiches, steamers and oysters and some soup. We didn't check the bags until we got back to the hotel and realized they forgot the soups, and the steamers were not steamed. So we went back to get the soups and the steamers cooked. One of the guys there didn't seem to really know what he was talking about, we were asking for the broth/water to clean the steamers and he seemed really confused on what we were asking for and suggested we clean it in the butter.... The soups weren't good either, the clam chowder was way too salty and the haddock chowder I got just wasn't very good. The lobster rolls didn't have any flavor my sister had to put anchovies on it for some salt and the crab rolls did not seem fresh they smelled pretty fishy. I almost forgot we got a lobster grilled cheese to split since we got one last year and loved it and it was awfullll no one took more than a small bite.
google avatar

Albert M.

Yelp
I would definitely say they deserve 4.5 stars (wish Yelp did half stars). This was a seafood market spot which also serves deliciousness like their lobster roll and steamers, which was what we got. The lobster roll was good. The lobster meat itself was absolutely delicious but the roll itself is why don't do it for me, compared to all of the other lobster rolls I've had. It was pretty plain IMO. However, it's still a really delicious lobster roll since the lobster meat is really good. The steamers are amazing as well.

Jodi N.

Yelp
This little shop is filled with a lot of fresh seafood, a little bit of fresh vegetables and good local products. In addition, liquor selection to include sake! Loved the lobster roll - one of the best I've had. I'm going to be a regular!
google avatar

Cathy B.

Yelp
Great spot, great folks working there, great owners! Really happy we found it as a great place to get lobster.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Super friendly service! Thank you to the owner for showing me how to shuck and oyster. Fresh seafood. My family will not buy from any other local seafood establishment in the area

Niki C.

Yelp
Staff friendly, Excellent seafood and fish prices. Smoked fish variety that they smoke. You can pick your own live lobsters and they will steam for you if you don't want to do it yourself. Lots of local products. Highly recommend this business.
google avatar

Glenn M.

Yelp
Super friendly and great food what a perfect combo. Ordered the lobster roll and clam chowder and it's one of those rare instances that you try not to finish your meal because it will be sadly over. I quite simply enjoyed every single bite. I will DEFINITELY eat here if I am ever in the area again.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
The lobster roll was perfection. They also sell some local good, fresh high quality seafood, live lobstahs, some produce, dairy products, vino, blueberry pie and some other goodies. Call your order in.. Lobster roll is on a long toasted and lightly buttered hot dog roll. Loads of delish meat. Perfection.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
My wife's family always gets steamers and lobsters at this place for family dinners. They have a really good knuckle sandwich and amazing haddock chowder. They have a variety of seafood that's fresh and other things as well.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
Who would find a sandwich shop that sells fresh lobster and seafood and be willing to eat on the hood or sitting on a rock with out tables? We did. And it was beyond good. It was the very best lobster knuckle sandwich. Ever. Ever. E v e r. And traveling with a oyster knife offers exceptional fresh treats for a hungry man or family. So, find this place. You'll be so happy if good food is your desire.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
Cute spot not too far from the coast. Stopped in after a business meeting to get a taste of the local cuisine. Flavor of the lobster roll was excellent, but compared to the pictures mine was a little light on the lobster....especially for the price. This happened to be my most expensive sandwich of the year. The bread was buttered and toasted perfectly. I also had the clam chowder which good, but not great.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
If you are looking for a classic Lobster Roll, Pine Tree is the place! Pine Tree sells fresh seafood and a small produce/market selection. I love cute little markets like these in the east coast! The lobster roll was pretty hefty, and perfectly packed with lobster meat for only $15.99! The Clam Chowder was chunky and creamy, perfect for a cold Maine day.
google avatar

Kongyun H.

Yelp
We came here to get some dinner to go. We got two regular lobster rolls, two bowls of clam chowder and a cole slaw. It was around $54 in total and it's sooo worth the money for what we got. The lobster rolls are huge and absolutely amazing. They come in this buttery foot long roll and the lobster itself is fresh and delicious. With just the right amount of mayo. The clam chowder is one of the best I've ever had. It's on the thicker side but it's because it SO FULL OF CLAMS. I've never gotten so much clams in my clam chowder before. This is what clam chowders should be. And it's seasoned perfectly as well. And the cole slaw is super good too. Great food and great value overall.
