Tearable Monsters

Google
We found out about Pinapple Ninjaz while reading up on places to eat in South Padre, and it was on our list of places to visit. It did not disappoint. The pina-colada was fantastic, and so much it needed a second cup, and the grilled shrimp and zucchini over rice was amazing. Hope i can come back and try it again someday.

Google
This was a refreshing stop. Let down with the chicken bowl - good portion but a little cold on the chicken and flavor was ok. Tacos were a little dry on meat and tortilla. The thing to get here is the pineapple 🍍 drank. Overpriced but so good. And they leave so much pineapple left inside - we scraped like a whole bowls worth more of pineapple afterwards. If your hot and thirsty, definitely stop here.

Google
Have heard so much hype about this place that we decided to give it a try. Visited the food truck on SPI today, and we were so disappointed. We left hungry and thirsty and with upset stomachs. We ordered a Texas Sized Colad and ordered The Big Baller bowl. After 20 minutes the food was ready but there was no drink. The chicken was old and dry. You could tell it had not been cooked fresh, like grainy sand in your mouth. The couple small pieces of lobster had been nuked so hard that we couldn't even chew them and had to spit them out. The shrimp were ok. The food lacked seasoning....except pepper. It had sooo much pepper. The portion and quality for what we paid was disproportionate. Another 5 minutes later, the Texas Sized Colada was ready. The name is deceptive. It was absolutely nothing like a pina colada. It was a lumpy and watery mix that tasted of absolutely nothing. Which is nuts because it was served in an actual pineapple!! The pineapple slices weren't sweet at all, not ripe. Paid almost $100 to leave with upset stomachs and still hungry. Save your time and money. There's tons of better food for way cheaper on the island. This place did not live up to the hype. The atmosphere was unpleasant. Dirty picnic tables, no shade to eat, lots of mosquitoes. Unkempt and run down area.

Google
I wanted to give this place a shot. But unfortunately it did not go well. Chicken was very dry, almost no pineapple on the al pastor tacos. Steak tacos were worse they had zero flavor, not even salt and pepper. Almost like they forgot to season. The main reason for my review is to mention that the food took way too long to come out and for it to take so long it was cold. Also, way over priced for tacos.

Google
The food here exceeded my expectations. The pictures looked really good, and so I had to give this place a try. My wife and I didn't expect to be blown away with the quality and flavor of the chicken bowl or the Pineapple coconut drink. The Zucchini fries on the pineapple were delicious right down to the rice and chicken. Each ingredient seemed to carry its own unique flavor that when combined ammounted to an incredibly pleasant meal to eat. The drink tasted so fresh and natural, you can taste pieces of the coconut mixed in with the pineapple drink. Incredibly refreshing. Food was expensive, $49 for two bowls and 1 Pina colada drink but the price matched the high quality, and the price is understandable with the way inflation is going at the moment. Wish they had one here in San Marcos. 5 of 5 stars

Google
My fiancé and I recently went here while on family vacation. The owner is so cool!!! He was super friendly, funny and overall a great guy! Our food took about 10-15 to get, he was working alone and fresh food is worth waiting for. We got the pineapple shrimp bowls and babaayyyyyyyy lemme tell YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! The flavor was ridiculous!!!!!!! The sweetness of the pineapple and the spices of the shrimp and zucchini!!!! Ugh it was beautiful!!!!! We are here twice and I wish I could get this literally every day!!!!!!! I will go back every year for these pineapples! We typically don’t eat out much on the island because it seems like we can’t ever find a place that is really good, this truck does not disappoint ever!!!!! #Jasmine&Aladdin

Google
The lobster tail bowl and the kickin chicken bowl were super delicious. The The pineapple smoothie was a disappointment, tasted like ice. Wait wasn’t too long. Workers were super friendly!

Google
This place is bomb. We ordered the chicken bowl and steak tacos. The chicken was so flavorful and the zucchini fries were a nice addition. Pineapple pico made the tacos taste amazing. Definitely will be going back!

Jorge V.

Yelp
Greeted before we even walked past the gate. Great service, good recommendation, fast, great flavor good value for a quick bite in the island.

Tiffiny C.

Yelp
Great island food!! I got the tail bowl and it was delicious! Refreshing but also savory, it certainly hit the spot! They also serve flavored/spiced tomato juice for you to mix with your BYOB! Prices are bit high but overall I think our selection was worth the price.

Anel F.

Yelp
This good was amazing, service was GREAT. Definitely allot of good, got the jerky chicken & fed 2

Ashley H.

Yelp
Orange chicken bowl was amazing! The sauce was delicious- and the zucchini was great. Would have liked more pineapple and chicken, but overall great.

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Excellent ceviche. This food truck's whole gimmick revolves around pineapples, so if you're allergic to this prickly fruit, you may want to steer clear. Pineapples help people get into that island mentality, and we saw a couple of these trucks peppered around. The one we went to was parked behind our hotel, and after having a couple of beers we stopped by here for some pre-concert grub. They don't have any to-go containers, hence me docking off a point. Your bowl is a carved out pineapple half, good luck with that. If you want your dish to go, they just wrap that sucker in foil. My cousin liked her chicken dish, and I don't remember what my sister and brother in law shared, but that was some really great ceviche, with a generous amount for $12, too. I've seen restaurants give half that amount for the same price, so I think we got a pretty good deal. The ceviche was tasty but I had to use all the lime I was given in order to get a nice tang going. Overall, though, I'd order that again. Everything tasted fresh and was made to order.

Renee S.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here last year and the food was fresh, delicious. Current visit is not up to par. The chicken is dry and luke warm and the rice is dried out. The chicken is not chopped up which coupled with it being dry makes for a chore to eat. I dont mind paying a premium price for good food but this unfortunately was a waste of money on this visit and is going in the trash.

Monte R.

Yelp
I got the chicken pineapple. It looked great - Instagram worthy - but it tasted not so good. The chicken was served in giant chunks, making it absolutely impossible to eat without cutting it up - but it was impossible to cut without utensils out in the open standing up from a food truck. It should have been served diced up in smaller bites. The sauce/taste of the chicken (what I had before tossing the thing in the trash) was ok at best. The zuchinni strings and rice were ok. Overall, it just wasn't good for me. Thumbs down.

Kerri B.

Yelp
Two stars because it was pretty. Mostly. We ordered 3 pineapple and coconut smoothies. Thinking that a food truck with pineapple in the name would actually serve a drink that tastes like pineapple was the hope. Well, definitely put your $10 smoothie hopes into another food truck because this didn't taste like pineapple or coconut. It tasted like a barren snowcone. The only indication I got what I ordered was the pile of fruit on top of the cup (not in it) and the stringy something stuck between my teeth after I drank it (could be pineapple. Could be coconut). And it was a little yellow on bottom. A little white on top. Otherwise. I drank snowy ice. We sipped. We hoped that it just needed a stir. Nope. Disappointed.

Bob Z.

Yelp
The food is really great looking! The service is friendly. If you want some good photos for your beach trip its a good option. We had the lobster bowl and another mix bowl i think. The food taste ok, decent buy nothing special. Not a big portion, but maybe limited by the size of the pineapple. Overall it's just not a great value. Like $65 for the lobster bowl, and there is just not that much lobster in there. a meal with a family of 4 with just normal chicken/ shrimp bowls will probably go well over $150. Their smoothie drink is also like $12. Its just a big ding on the wallet without too much bang. I guess if you want to pose with a cool looking bowl it might be worth it.

Yelp
I tried this food truck at the Austin Asian Night Market. This is pertinent to my review because I am ASSUMING the fact the market was absolute chaos might have contributed to quality a bit. This is also why I am not holding the 2.5 hour wait against the food truck itself (yes, I wanted in line from 8:15 pm to 10:30 pm). I got the kickin' chicken bowl, which, for $10 I think is a great price point. However, the rice was very plain, it didn't even taste salted. The chicken was dry and overdone, although the orange sauce was fine, and the grilled squash they stack on top was in dreadful need of some salt and pepper. It would have been really disappointing whether I waited 5 minutes or two hours. They did tell me they prepare fresh to order, which I appreciate, and the presentation is awesome. But I would prefer a simpler presentation with much better flavors. That being said, if I come across the truck again I am curious about the drinks. They looked pretty good!

John L.

Yelp
This is definitely a spot I had been wanting to check out as I was drawn to the idea of my food being served inside a hollowed out pineapple. Unfortunately, the spectacle of the food being in the pineapple is as good as it gets here. I got the chicken dish, which was $10. The spring was $15 and the lobster was $30. Boy am I glad I didn't spend more than $10 for this. The chicken was actually quite good with the orange sauce, but the jasmine rice was bland. They add some decorative items on top of the dish, but that's about it. I wound up eating as much of the pineapple as I could but without a knife you'll have to do this with your hands. Overall, for the money I would recommend going elsewhere, as the amount of food isn't very much and you're really just paying to have your food presented in the hollowed out half of a pineapple.

Tamara W.

Yelp
First time trying, i got the chicken and shrimp mix grill. It came with rice with sweet flavor sauce in a 1/2 pineapple as it bowl. Staff very friendly. My friend had a pineapple and coconut smoothie and she said it was "very good".

Donnis M.

Yelp
Tried the chicken dish at Circuit of the Americas during F1. The presentation was nice, but that's the only good thing to be said. It was $20 and the rice was raw in the first one. I walked back and they gave me a replacement. It was cold. I expect expensive at an event like this and I'm not expecting a gourmet dining experience but it should be food that you want to eat. Unfortunately I didn't want to eat it. I hope their normal location is better.

Andre V.

Yelp
When you're down on SPI for a little fun in the sun, you have to try this place! Pineapple lovers dream! Indulge in a pineapple boat with gulf shrimp and lobster or have a go at the nachos with crawfish tails! It will not disappoint! Lastly... take home some of their homemade michelada mixes! Tamarindo is worth every penny!

Albert L.

Yelp
Food was good and worth the short wait. The landlord however needs to do a better job in picking up the trash around the area.

Nick M.

Yelp
Employees refused to wear masks while preparing our food. Ignored me when I asked why they weren't wearing them. Endangering the public. Not cool.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
For a food truck, this was very good. My husband and I stopped initially to get something cold to drink. However, the pictures on the truck enticed me to try the chicken. It was very good. I also got the pineapple limeade, which was refreshing. My husband got the kickback colada and it was delicious. What could've given this a five star rating? There were no trash cans, no seating (though neighboring food trucks had their own seating). We were not in a situation to take this to go so I had to eat standing up at one of the wooden pillars they have situated there. My understanding is that this is a somewhat stationary food truck. Adding just a little bit of seating could certainly make for a better experience. It wouldn't need to be anything elaborate. I would also recommend a nearby trashcan.

Yelp
The Shrimp Pineapple sounded quite exciting from the start along with zucchini fries. The pictures gleam of prideful cooking. But a Thundrous clap of dissapointment quickly rode over us when we ate it. A half cut pineapple had been fried to appear as a boat. Presentation was quite phenomenal to be honest. The boat consisted of a very dry and offputting rice at the base. It was topped with shrimp and zucchini. There was little to no seasoning or even flavor to the shrimp and zucchini. I wasn't sure whether they had cooked it or not because there was zuch little flavor profile. Zucchini fries are not fries in any sense. It was simply sauteed zuchini strips with a little pepper on top. Chunks of pineapple had been mixed in but to no avail as there was no other flavor to appreciate a blend in flavors. All for the price of 24$? That was worth 10$ at best

Iris A.

Yelp
The food is okay. I got the big baller (comes with shrimp, chicken, & lobster) which costs $40 & in my opinion it was a solid 3/10 & not at all worth $40. The amount of food is not enough for what is advertised (they say the big baller is for two people but was not) & the food itself was not tasty ; no flavor. All in all just save your money please

Jean L.

Yelp
Bad customer service. Do not ask questions about the menu because you will get attitude, a lot of eye rolls and shoulders shrugged. This was our first time here so we had questions on the taste of the chicken and we were rudely told it's just like Panda Express and your taste buds are different from mine so not sure how you would determine the taste to be. My husband politely asked if they served beef and we were told "we serve everything on a pineapple so fugue it out." We were Rudely asked if we were paying cash or we would be charged 5$ extra for card. When I asked for the total she rudely said I don't know how much the taxes are. Honestly don't waste your time here. Service is not friendly and the food itself is not great!!! The other food trucks have great service and great food!! Very disappointing since I had been wanting to come here for weeks now!!!

Emily K.

Yelp
Completely over priced gross food. Undercooked all around. The rice was hard, the veggies were as well. Salt level through the roof. Ick. The shrimp were tiny and not fresh. I sent a note to their IG page and asked for a refund before I wrote this review. I opted to not get back in line to complain about the food at the time, being that most of the people waiting in line were NOT wearing masks. Days later I finally did get a response, and instead of just offering a refund, I got pushback. VERY disappointed. And am telling everyone I know to avoid eating here at all costs. Good riddance!

Jen N.

Yelp
Hey it's a travel destination stuffs gonna be overpriced sooo it is what it is. That being said yes a 10 dollar smoothie was tourist priced..BUT, I thought 10 dollars for the orange chicken bowl which is served in a pineapple was very fair and yummy....next time I'll ask for napkins.

Nancy M.

Yelp
Great fresh food from a food truck. Fun location where you can take your order into Tequila Sunset to eat overlooking the Bay with live music.... or eat on picnic tables right there. They also sell fresh pineapples 2 for $3.00!! Better than HEB price! Will update when we try the tacos.

Jmj G.

Yelp
Pineapple Ninjas brings a different twist to South Padre Island. It beats other fast foods in the island. The Padre Pastor Tacos (chicken breast marinated in Pastor flavor w/ pineapple, cilantro & cebolla) was good. The Kickin Chicken Bowl w/ Pan Seared Orange Chicken, Rice, Pineapple and Veggies has a great presentation.

Maria M.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this food truck and was so disappointed. We bought the big one that is supposed to feed 2 for $70 and 3 smoothies that we're way over priced and had no flavor. The food lacked so much seasoning.

Samantha D.

Yelp
This place was pretty good. Only reason I give 3 stars is because the rice was super super undercooked to the point I couldn't even eat it. We got the shrimp and chicken bowls. They were both great! And I loved the zucchini fries so good! Glad we decided to stop by and try this while we visited the island!

Sheridan L.

Yelp
Obsessed with this! Had to go back a few days later for a second pineapple bowl with orange chicken. The zucchini fries are phenomenal, and I'm pretty picky with that kinda stuff. The shrimp bowl was also delicious.

Emily M.

Yelp
My boss saw this on a show and told me about it. It was delicious!! My husband and I shared a combo pineapple bowl that could of fed 3 people. Highly recommend

Mia S.

Yelp
I mean, this place is cool for the aspect of "eating out of a pineapple" but to be honest, the food is OK. You're paying a ton of money for a little bit of food too. I left still hungry. The smoothie is good but not for $14. Just overrated to me.

Corby T.

Yelp
Got the orange chicken and it was amazing. I don't know if they cut the pineapple on purpose or not but we were able to easily rip it up and ate the whole dang pineapple after too with all the yummy flavors. Staff was super friendly, got to sample the micholada flavors and they were awesome too. Need them to come up to Houston one day so I know I'll get to try it again!

Mandi G.

Yelp
The lobster and the chicken pineapple were delish! The shrimp one was Spicy! The food is yummy the wait was long.. about 30 minutes. Staff was Friendly enough we had them in the Food Truck park on Padre Island and the seating was very limited.

Chloe C.

Yelp
They were so sweet! Food was good! Definitely recommend this place! Was in South Padre for a chill vacation and realized they had chamoy with pineapple and it immediately made my day.

Kate G.

Yelp
We were finally able to try this place, and it did not disappoint! We tried the orange chicken, salmon, shrimp, and ceviche bowls. All of them were fantastic. My husband said if we don't eat anywhere else on the island it would be fine by him...

Joey E.

Yelp
3 adults eating for $100 at a food truck is ridiculous. The Instagram gimmicky pineapple dish isn't worth the extra cost. No to go containers except aluminum foil is crazy. Staff was friendly and food was ok but for that price, I would need an orgasm to justify it.

Kaylin S.

Yelp
Extremely fair prices. The chicken pineapple bowl is better than the shrimp bowl but still very delicious. A bit spicy for those who are not a fan of it but insanely enjoyable. If I ever return as a tourist, I'd only eat at this truck. This is probably the best place to eat on the island without it costing an insane amount.

Violet C.

Yelp
Ordered a pina colada. No alcohol and it was still over $13 with tax and a tip. That's crazy for a smoothie. Tasted okay but nothing special.

Anita M.

Yelp
Ceviche was delicious. Bright citrus flavors. Yummy. The tacos were on point. If you care about what you eat. These tacos are bursting with flavor and good for you. The two ladies there were super nice and very attentive.

Kathy A.

Yelp
Visiting from Houston... I LOVE pineapples!! I was soooo excited to try this truck out and I was not disappointed! The idea of serving the food in a half scooped out pineapple was a genius idea and also cute. The kickin chicken bowl was great. It had marinated orange chicken on a bed of rice and veggies on the side. I've had that twice . The slize bowl which is pineapples dripped in lime, chili and chamoy (which is optional). I chose to have it all the way. Ate every bit of it and even tried to scrap whatever pineapple I had left. The kickback colada was decent. I can eat from this food truck every day. I wished we had one in Houston. I do agree with others. A trashcan is much needed so you wouldn't have to clean up after your customers. I've seen people leave their trash on the table in front of y'all truck. That is unattractive for other people. Other than that, if you're a pineapple lover like myself, you would not be disappointed. Sorry, I had mixed up the names of the dishes I had. The top one is kickin chicken and the second video is Slize bowl.

Leticia M.

Yelp
My wife and I came across this place on yelp when visiting SPI. We arrived around 8pm on a Wednesday. We noticed there wasn't a lot of people around and there were 2 other food trucks on the same block. We ordered the kickback colada, the grilled shrimp bowl and the pastor tacos. We received our drinks which were ok, nothing special. After that, the girl that took our order informed us that they didn't have any seasoning for the pastor tacos. She offered to make us chicken tacos which were not bad but weren't great. I believed this place is overrated. After reading the reviews we expected much more than what we got. Side note, this is a food truck. Don't expect much.

Adolfo Z.

Yelp
I'm sorry to say but Pineapple Ninjas is basically a gimmick, a way over priced gimmick. We had the chicken tacos and they were extremely dry. Nothing that came with the tacos could provide any moisture. They are definitely not worth the $10.00, $3.00 would be the price point they are worth. We also had the lobster and if I would have known that it was 8 pieces of lobster and a bunch of vegetables, I would definitely not paid $30 for it. At best maybe it's worth $10.00 at most. I definitely would not recommend Pineapple Ninja if you're actually hungry. Save your money and try a different local eatery.

Kim T.

Yelp
Overpriced and super bland. We got the shrimp bowl and the shrimp had no flavor. It was on a bed of white rice with a side of zucchini. Serving looks big but it's really not. The pina colada was ok.

Malena T.

Yelp
This place is over hyped. The food (regardless ) of your choice has no flavor. My husband ordered the Big Balla in was so bad!! In quality in flavor. Only the presentation was good. It was $40 dollars not worth it! I ordered the chicken bowl $10 it was the worst chicken I have ever tasted. We also bought the piña colada drink which was hot and the pineapple was going bad it had a funky taste. Lastly the smell of trash and poop was overwhelming. We spent $70 dollars only to throw the food away and order Tacos from elsewhere. My kids spent the same amount or more!! Believe me my friends my husband and family love seafood. So don't be fooled by the lady that pitches you the dishes. She's very nice don't get me wrong but she lies about the quantity and quality of the food!!! So in closing if you want to throw your money away I highly recommend this place. Otherwise take your business elsewhere. DO NOT LET THE PICTURES FOOL YOU!!

Sara S.

Yelp
You cant go wrong with a meal from Pineapple Ninjas!! Last night, I got the delicious grilled shrimp. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Under it was the best tasting rice I've ever had!!!!!! I was literally scrapping the pineapple bowl to get every last piece. Today I plan on going back for the ceviche.

Jere C.

Yelp
We stopped just to see what this food truck was all about. I referred the Guhmp Bowl. Massive amount of shrimp, zucchini, jasmine rice, and pineapple! The only thing that surpassed the amount of food was how awesome it was!!!

Victor C.

Yelp
I thought this place was actually pretty good. I ordered the lobster tail and my wife ordered the chicken bowl and both were really good. I do admit that the prices were out of this world. We paid 63 dollars for two meals and one drink. That didn't include the tip. We can't afford to eat there again.

Nellie V.

Yelp
They were really quick and the grilled shrimp was delicious. There is no place to sit, but our hotel was pretty close, so we just took it with us.

Erica M.

Yelp
Was a little nervous about getting ceviche off a food truck. But I was soo happy we did ! The ceviche was plentiful and very tasty! I also tried their pineapple drink but was not a fan. :/ too sweet for me but then again I don't like sweet drinks. They also have lemonade ! :D

BreeAnuh K.

Yelp
Very long wait and food was under seasoned. I expected more quality. It is an interesting concept, but needs more work. I ate there with a friend who is vegetarian. The cashier charged me more because my friend, who I visited the food truck with, wanted a dish minus the meat. Additionally, the cook was playing on his phone, working raw chicken without gloves and drinking a beer all while cooking. Food safety definately needs to be addressed.

Steve H.

Yelp
Some of the best food we had in SPI. The food and presentation was great. Thanks Pineapple Ninjas!!

Heidi B.

Yelp
Grabbed a lobster pinapple bowl when out with the girls on girls weekend. Loved the concept and it was good - I felt like it was severely under seasoned. My other friend who had the salmon bowl said it was delicious though! I would def recommend giving a try...
