This "hidden" treasure is in the heart of Avondale, tucked down a residential street in a small unassuming building. There is a small parking lot located next door now, which is probably the only change they've made in many years. (It's a good one though.)
Their meats are high quality and frankly worth the price. The people who work here are friendly and efficient and know what they are doing.
I haven't had breakfast here but I'm a fan of their sandwiches, particularly their chicken salad. To be accurate, it's not what you expect in a "chicken salad" it's more what the Brits would call a "chicken paste" or a "chicken spread." It's super smooth white meat with nothing weird (like pickles or fruit) in it and just enough mayo to bind it.
You can even just buy a tub of chicken salad to take home and make your own tea sandwiches to serve to the Queen. Or pretend to. Don't judge.
My favorite sandwich there is the St. John's which is just chicken salad, provolone, & applewood bacon on grilled sourdough. Simple, but perfect. I shared a picture of it, doesn't photograph well, sorry, but trust me, it was delicious.
I usually get the chips but you can substitute other sides, and I tried the Greek pasta salad last time. Quite good. Nice dressing with a generous amount of feta, olives and pimientos in it. It was an enjoyable change.
They also have homemade baklava which is delicious. I tried that as well for the very first time. A lot of people avoid it, thinking it would be too sweet, but it's not. It was a perfect balance of savory nut meats and butter with a very earthy honey. I've heard the owner's wife makes it - if so, she's a master.
Pinegrove is big on social media, so follow them on Facebook, etc., to keep up with specials and other events.
