Really cool factory tour! I must confess I'm not really into sardines but coming here may have converted me. It was actually one of my favorite things I did on my trip to Portugal, if you're all interested about the history, food, or most importantly the history of food, you'll love it. You get a fun tour of the old offices along with a viewing of a (very) short film, a primer on the history of the company, a tour of the actual factory, and at the very end a tasting of one tin of sardines. You also get to wrap your very own can of sardines. I think for some tours you have to pay to get the can afterwards but for the one I did it was included in the price. The staff here are also very nice. We accidentally booked our tour for the wrong day, we asked if we could reschedule last minute and they were able to slot us in. Our tour guide was super nice and informative as well. Great gift shop too! It's way too easy to spend an entire paycheck here! Lots of cool goodies here including limited edition tins and accessories.

I had a lovely time on my factory tour. Upon arrival into the actual cannery, I beamed with joy as if I was at Santa's workshop as the lady elves staffed the sardine production by hand. Roberto was a great tour guide. I couldn't help but laugh when I wrapped my personalized can. I didn't purchase it but was allowed to keep the wrapper. Andre in the Can-Tin cafe was equally engaging. We chatted over many topics. I partook in their spicy sardines. They were substantial and delicious! In Italy, I purchase Portuguese sardines in olive oil, in bulk, at one supermarket chain. After trying Nuri brand, I know what I'm getting (but still enjoying in Italy) is not the gold standard for sardines. They're healthy just the same. Muito Obrigada Pinhais!

We just a tour with Francesco and we loved it, very good explanations and with a hint of fun. We got to wrap our own tins and taste them as well. We loved the can-tin! And you can tell in every detail that a lot of love is put into the place. 10/10 we would recommend.

Excellent tour! Highly recommend! Very informative and tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cannery. You can purchase ticket online on the Pinhais Cannery website. Get the full experience and take home a can of sardines personalized with your name and that you wrapped.

I‘ve done so many factory tours in my life but this was probably the best one ever. How can every part of the tour be so perfectly seamless and beautiful?? The staff are all so kind and friendly too. From now on my favorite sardines are Nuri! ❤️

Great tour! I like mild fish so was looking forward to learning about the business more than the tasting. I loved going through the office space and learning about the company’s history. The factory tour was excellent. Explaining every step of the process and seeing all the equipment. Unfortunately it was a weekend so they were not processing fish, but we were able to walk the floor. And the tasting was great. I won’t be a regular sardine eater, but it was a great experience “when in Rome”. I highly recommend this to anyone in the Porto area!

I very much enjoyed the tour. We were shown all the different areas of the floor and the processing area and taking through several historic rooms in the building afterwards we had a tasting. I definitely recommend doing this tour.

Great visit to Pinhais canning factory! This tour is well worth doing if you're visiting Porto and want to learn more about sardine canning in Matosinhos. Known for it's excellent seafood and historic fishing industry, Matosinhos is within easy reach of Porto. The tour included time on the factory floor watching work in progress, learning historic context, watching some great videos, a hands-on experience wrapping our own sardine cans, and a sardine tasting at the end in their lovely restaurant. The tour lasted around 45 minutes, and the tasting was an additional 30 min, and we could stay as long as we wished. Enjoyed this so much! Highly recommend!
