The Best Restaurants in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama | Eater New Orleans

"Pink Pony Pub is a classic beach bar, and this one’s been around forever — since 1956, to be exact. A bright pink beachfront building beckons for satisfying bar food like super-loaded nachos, fried shrimp, and a customer favorite, the burger on sourdough. This is the spot to drink cocktails in all the colors of the rainbow, some not necessarily found in nature. Leave all pretension at the door and enjoy the fun." - Clair Lorell

We came across this place when looking for somewhere to eat on the beach. Before being seated the hostess informed us they were out of about a third of the menu items. We decided to stay since there wasn’t a wait. The food, service, and indoor atmosphere was ok. The outdoor atmosphere was better because of the view of the beach and ocean. The seating indoors was plastic folding chairs and tables, outdoors was wooden picnic tables. They were not the most comfortable but I guess that is the look they were going for. The location right on the beach is pretty much what this place has going for it.

Google
Great place! The drinks are AMAZING!!! Highly recommend the Bob Marley and key lime colada! The burger of the month was a pimento cheese burger with fried green tomato and I loved it! The grilled fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly! Not to mention the best fried pickles I’ve had in a long time! Not too salty but very tasty!!! Staff was mostly friendly and happy to answer questions. The food took about 40 minutes to come out but the place was packed and the drinks and appetizer came quick. The patio is amazing and has a beautiful view of the pier

I’ve been coming to the Pink Pony since I was a kid, and it’s always held a special place in my heart. So naturally, when I came home to visit, I was excited to stop by and relive those memories. Walking in, I was thrilled to see that the place still looks the same—there’s a charm and familiarity that makes it feel like home. That said, I do wish a bit more care was put into the food and drinks. Respectfully, the Bushwacker I had was almost undrinkable, and the oysters I ordered weren’t properly shucked—there were shells in nearly every bite. No house-made ranch, and the overall menu felt uninspired, almost as if it was put together without much thought. The location is unbeatable, and the vibe has all the potential in the world. But it feels like the quality of the experience, especially when it comes to the menu and service, hasn’t caught up. Our server wasn’t particularly friendly either, which added to the sense that things have slipped. Despite that, I’ll always come back—this place is part of my history. I just really hope to see it taken to the next level someday. It truly deserves that.

My friends and I visited during a festival. We ordered a Caesar salad, chicken tenders and fries, blackened shrimp and fries, and fresh oysters. The quality of the food was great. We enjoyed all of our food. The drinks were delicious. Our server was fun, polite, and fast. The atmosphere is exactly what you see on TikTok! Overall, I highly recommend a visit!

We came for the Nachos, and they were out of cheese? So we stayed and got burgers, they were good when they finally came out. Although when our app came out, no one every gave us napkins, utensils, and our waiter disappeared for about 20 minutes... we noticed we were not the only table awkwardly waiting. Other tables, with other waiters went up to the bar to ask for drinks etc.. location is cool, theme is cool, but a bit run-down overall with foldup tables/chairs on the inside. It took a really long time to get our food and the place wasn't super busy. Parking is in a small paid lot in between them and Hangout. We were rather dissapointed. I think if it wasn't "famous" and on the beach, there's no real reason to go.

We were greeted at the door with smiles and laughs—shoutout to the friendly staff for starting our visit on the right hoof! 🐴✨ It was quite evident they had a busy day. We arrived around 3 PM and barely had to wait (yay, off-peak dining!). The vibe inside? Pure retro joy with 70’s & 80’s hits setting the mood. 🎸🕺 Now, onto the food! I ordered the blackened grouper po’boy, and WOW. The fish was chef’s kiss🤌—fresh, perfectly cooked, and smothered in delicious remoulade sauce. Paired with crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and a sneaky pickle, it was love at first bite. 🥖🐟💕 Big cheers to Kaycee, our awesome server! 🥂 She was on it with the drink refills and made sure the cold beers kept flowing like a Florida breeze. 🍺💨 Speaking of breezes, we dined indoors because it was a bit chilly, but we could see some feathered "friends" outdoors enthusiastically helping with cleanup once guests left. 🐦🍴 If you’re craving great food, good laughs, and a fun beachside atmosphere, gallop on over to the Pink Pony Pub. 🐴💗 #FoodieFun #BeachVibes #PoBoyPerfection #CheersAndChill

Google
This was our first time going to the Pink Pony Pub. We ordered fried green tomatoes, buffalo chicken dip, kids fried shrimp plate, chicken tender basket and the oven baked LUMP crab cakes. The fried green tomatoes had no salt or seasoning. Same with the chicken tenders and they were so dry! My $21 LUMP crab cakes had no LUMP crab meat, it was like the crab meat you get out of a can. They were also burnt! I suggest going for the hype and not the food!

Enjoyed lunch and not too busy for a Monday. Blacked shrimp on Greek salad was fresh and yummy. Service was great and staff friendly. Nice atmosphere and views of the ocean. Would recommend stopping here where you’re in Gulf Shores.

Yelp
Great place on the beach. You can't miss it as the building is a very bright pink. It's a very basic restaurant. Nothing fancy. But that's part of its charm. Has a great outdoor deck. We were here for hangout fest. We had Kevin (I hope I have the right name. He was from Jamaica) as our server every day we were there. And he was beyond amazing! I've been meaning to write this review since last year! He was prompt attentiveand always had a great smile. The food is bar food but it's decent. I had a salad and it was great. My ONLY complaint was that for those of us who were there for eight or more hours, eating, drinking and generously tipping, was the long line to use the bathroom from the concert goers was annoying. Women were walking in and just using the bathroom. They were not patrons of the restaurant. There's only two stalls in the women's bathroom. The line was so long and the bathrooms got to the point of being gross. I had asked the servers if they were charging a cover charge or you would need to purchase a drink in order to use the bathroom. They said the manager didn't want to do that. It really turned out to be a free-for-all and was the reason we left. Maybe it's a better place to go to when they don't have hangout fest. We will definitely visit while we are there and hope to have Kevin as our server again.

Yelp
The food is okay. Kind of gives greasy fair food vibes. The vibes with outside seating are awesome! The tables outside are ocean views, sand basically under your feet. It is enjoyable for the view! Good service! Make sure you know the prices of things before ordering. I accidentally ordered something that was like $100, so that sucked. It was like alligator bites or something, lol. Basically, awesome views, good service, but meh food and meh prices.
google avatar

Yelp
You cannot miss the building! It's very cute and in the middle of town. It was very busy but we were sat and served very fast. There's inside and outdoor seating with steps to the beach. Children are allowed until 9pm. The food was okay. It wasn't bad but for the price it was fine. The drinks however are very good!

Yelp
This pub had the best frozen adult beverages that I ever had. The service was great and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about what was going on around the area. Being right on the beach was very convenient and created a nice atmosphere about the place. We will make sure to visit again next year.

Yelp
A fun, easy pub by the beach. Parking is a bit of a challenge so we parked across the street at a public lot - the Pink Pony and neighboring establishments were full of people! I came here as a group on a Sunday afternoon into sunset and hung out on the patio outside facing the beach. There were patrons of all ages here - adult parties, families and baby boomers alike enjoying the ambiance of a summer-like sunset in October. Service is ok - the hostess seemed spaced out and indecisive where to seat us and made us decide. Our server was all right and attentive - and quick to wipe I a spilled martini. Oops! We didn't have a full meal - just some tater tots and drinks, which were delicious! Fair prices and as expected, the crowd gets rowdier as the night continues on. Overall, a fun place to try at least once for the epic views!

Yelp
This place is excellent right on the ocean and on the beach. Kelsey rocked it with the drinks and the service and even let me know that the crab claws would be a little more expensive due to the market price before I ordered. very fun, place to hang out and have some good food while enjoying the ocean as well as a few drinks. The prices weren't too bad for the amount of food that you received very good.

Yelp
May be an unpopular take on this establishment but here it goes. This place could be soooooo good. It has an amazing location and is right on the beach. However, we were not impressed by the service or the food. Nachos were the size of a trash can lid and had so much promise but were so soggy. Was hoping for some spice in the shrimp spaghetti but it was very bland. Not a ton of flavor in the frozen drinks we tried either. I feel like this place gets a lot of hype because it's easily accessible for folks to grab a bite on the beach but save your dollars and take a few steps further to her something better.
google avatar

Greg Z.

Yelp
The food is a 4 here. Other one star reviews are a little ridiculous imo, but define not a 5. The Pink Pony is a 1956 Gulf Shores original so saying it needs updated is rather odd since once the vibe is a 1956 original. Pretzel Pimento bites were unique, chicken strips basket had 8 strips, Po Boy was amongst the best I've had in Gulf Shores.
google avatar

Yelp
Liked the drink menu. Food was good. Inside seating is cramped. Limited bar seating. Outdoor seating was basic. View was gorgeous, staff was friendly.
google avatar

Shelley S.

Yelp
We came here for lunch, located right on beach. Great atmosphere, outside and inside seating. My grandma had popcorn shrimp, my uncle the hater bites and gumbo and I had the tuna dip. Everyone liked their food, my tuna dip was more like tuna salad. Service was fast and friendly. The drinks looked real tasty. The weather was perfect to eat on deck, and steps to the beach.

Yelp
Our waiter kevin (yabadabadoo) is an amazing kind waiter who has been here for years. Always traveled for soccer and ate at the pink pony to see him. Never fails to make me laugh and always remembers me! He definitely deserves a lot for going above and beyond with his job! he's

Yelp
A nice bar right on the beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. The pub has a nice drink menu and local craft beer. The food was ok.

Yelp
It's pink and its on the beach what else could it be but the Pink Pony Pub! I've been going here for decades and the main thing to do here was to go early, drink a few beers and enjoy the scenery of the beach along with the eye candy that used to be inside the pub before heading to Flora-Bama. The eye candy was the main draw of this place as they used to have good looking girls working here but not so much anymore. The food here has always been average and these days I would say Pink Pony has slipped quite a bit below average for the area as many other places have actually improved their food. They also used to have bands here later in the night and sometimes this place used to draw a good crowd and I've had some fun times in here but over the years the music seems less common so I generally end up having a lot better time at Flora-Bama. Overall this is a spot to enjoy for the long history it has and to have a nice spot right on the beach to enjoy for a bit. My video review of Pink Pony Pub is here: https://youtu.be/-mWxtTY7V4Y

Delana M.

Yelp
At Pink Pony I ordered the lump crab cakes with a side of fries. We came in with a large party and there weren't able to sit us until everyone showed up, so we couldn't get a table right away. Once we ordered, it seemed like the food came out quick and everything was correct. One thing I wish would've been different is if the crab cakes would be served on a bed of rice or something to add to it. The cakes themselves were very yummy. The inside is a little on the smaller side but still a good option if you are hungry.

Yelp
Another fun place on the beach. Great seafood and drinks. Was a little cloudy so we sat inside but very retro beach vibe and the food was very good. I had the shrimp Poboy, and actually finished the whole thing and we also had the coconut shrimp, very plump, very fresh very tasty. It's a little unassuming from the outside, but you won't be disappointed with the food or service.
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
It's cute little pink building right on the beach, with a fun atmosphere! It's a stop every time we go to gulf shores! We were seated right away and drinks came out quickly. Staff continues to check on you and make sure you're good. Plenty of options for drinks and food. We got the nachos to share, so great since it is so large. Food was okay, nothing special. Great place for a quick bite and drink while walking on the beach.
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
I have always wanted to come here. We stopped in for a drink or two. We had very nice service. The drinks, not good. Overly sweet and not sure about any alcohol. We only ordered one round. The place needs a good deep clean and overall not a fun vibe. I was thinking it would be more. Kind of glad we didn't eat there. But this place is iconic and will always probably be busy.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
We had to stand by the door for 15 minutes to wait to be seated, because there's no sign reading that you can sit on the patio where you'd like. We ordered the dozen raw oysters, which were full of cracked shell and I must say, you could wipe off dirt from the inside of the shell with your finger. When something looks disgusting it's not appetizing and edible, and at almost $2 an oyster, they should've looked better. Hubs had a pina colada which was tasty. I ordered an espresso martini and it was the worst adult beverage I've ever had. We didn't complain, just paid our check and left. Absolutely will never be back.
google avatar

Brandi R.

Yelp
We stopped here today for some afternoon cocktails and a snack! Ivan & Dallas behind the bar were fantastic! The drinks were the best we've had in our 3 weeks here in Gulf Shores!! We had the Smoked Tuna Dip and the California Cobb Salad, both were delicious!!! We will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Typical bar food with a great view. Not the newest place around but the food is good and the service is excellent.

Yelp
A must visit in Gulf Shores! It's an adorable pink building with an outdoor patio facing the beach. The staff are all very kind. The drinks are delish- I highly recommend the key lime colada! So yummy. We also ate dinner there one night- the nachos are amazing and are HUGE (not kidding). Don't worry if you can't finish it they will wrap it up in foil for you since it doesn't fit in a box usually. Makes great leftovers. Pink Pony Pub is also a great place for a mid-day drink. It's right off the beach and is walking distance from many of the condos! Keep doing what you're doing Pink Pony Pub

Yelp
Love the Pink Pony! It looks right out onto the beach. So much fun to belly up to the bar. The bartenders are friendly and very helpful. The Bushwacker is delightful. The food is worth every penny. On friend ordered the raw oysters and couldn't stop talking about them. My other male dining companion ordered the shrimp basket and couldn't eat the full basket. I had the grilled shrimp and a side of hushpuppies. So far, the best hushpuppies I have had in gulf shores.

Jack M.

Yelp
Absolutely classic. Right on the beach. Nachos are the way to go. Good service with friendly staff. Well priced food as well.
google avatar

Yelp
My father in law loves this place! It's a staple for every visit. This was my first time. I love sitting outside and watching the ocean. I had the crab cakes and they were perfect! Good ratio of crab to breading. The martini was spot on. It tasted like grape kook aid. My one year old had chicken and fries and they were also good. My husbands burger was just ok. Our waiter was very nice but it was very hard to get his attention. He had a large party inside and we felt a little left out being. It was Packed so plan for that! Overall we had a good experience.
google avatar

Courtney H.

Yelp
Customer service was great food was lightly seasoned :( great viewww . I enjoyed everything here
google avatar

Paula W.

Yelp
The Cajun Nachos were amazing!!! We did not realize how big the order was when ordered but throughly enjoyed. We also had the smoked tuna dip and I recommend for sure. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. The patio is right on the beach so that was nice and our server was great.
google avatar

Tracey G.

Yelp
Better than expected! Thought this was just a bar but pleasantly surprised at the good choices. Loved the big selection of drinks. The nachos and strawberry beach ball were great! The ambiance is so nice right on the beach and our waitress was great and recommended my drink!I would come back for sure!

Yelp
The service sucks. Waitresses completely rude. 1st experience I went on a Saturday. I just assumed, tourist day, probably had a crap day and could care less about the next person. Tried again today (Tuesday) the server was rude! We walked up the stairs in the beach side. Put my things on an empty clean table. It was not busy. Had maybe 3 tables outside with people. So I went inside tell them we were there. (Knowing from being there on Saturday they do not come outside often to check on tables) I let a server know. She looked at me- stepped back then looked at me from feet to head. Said, " you just sat yourself" Umm. Yeah! There was no sign stating not to- it wasn't busy- and nobody came outside. The severs act like we are an inconvenience. The Saturday server, I had to go find to ask for another beer. She was on a her phone leaning on the counter. Guess they trained together. We ended up leaving. I know it's a tourist town- another butt will fill the seat. They don't care. Which is too bad. I'll spend my money where people want it.

Yelp
Love The Pink Pony Pub! The food is great and the experience is amazing. A must visit when you are in Gulf Shores.

Yelp
I came here with my business partner after a nice day of riding waves at the beach and the location is just perfect for a quick break to drink and grab a bite to eat. I had ordered the gator bites as a appetizer and my business partner ordered the shrimp basket. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted incredible. The service was mediocre. Our bartender was less than enthusiastic that we were there and had not been helpful in suggestions on what to eat. We had went to grab a picture and came back and our seats were taken which was kind of irritating due to us opening a tab then having to order through a server as well. The drinks were great so I wasn't to disappointed however service can make or break a dining experience and our experience was questionable. Bottom line is the foods consistent and delicious. The drinks are tasty and on point. But if you want quality service I don't know if I could confidently recommend this place.
google avatar

Swizzle D.

Yelp
Kimberly Ann was a great bartender. Drink is Pina Colada with a Rum bump. Definitely will be back every year
google avatar

Jerad G.

Yelp
Friendly staff, fast service, and alright prices. Located right on the beach. They got great food, drinks, and air conditioning if you need to escape the sun. I came in mainly to try the gator bites. They're delicious in case you're wondering. Finding parking nearby can be a hassle. It's definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
The reviews were right and not accurate enough! I will say that the service people were kind and friendly they were very very slow. Taking their time to do everything. We weren't in a rush so it was fine but just know that it will take you some time. They were happy to bring whatever you needed just slowly. Now on to the environment- ugh! It was disgusting. This is a hole in the wall place. We visited at night so the outdoor area was FULL of bugs all kinds. From flying ants to giant cockroaches. It was also very dark - which is understandable so not to attract more bugs but you couldn't see what was crawling around on your food. The food was ok. We had fried pickles, raw oysters, a grouper po boy with tater tots and the shrimp basket. The shrimp were good and deveined which was a plus. Ok boy had meager pieces of grouper which was very disappointing because the price was fairly high - listed as MP. Megan the bartender was great and makes a wonderful lemon martini! Overall, if you are planning to eat here - make sure yet have time and if it is for dinner. Eat inside! The ocean view isn't worth having bugs crawling all over you! And the tables are wiped down inside. They never wipe the outside tables off after each person. Shrimp basket is my recommendation
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Prices are higher than expected given the food and the atmosphere. Eat out side only if you want to share with the seagulls. Customer service not great.

Yelp

Yelp
First time being here and service was very good. The highlight tho was the food! Coming from a seafood lover I was very happy with the variety of fish and shellfish they had to offer. Great atmosphere and I recommend a visit!

Jamie L.

Yelp
Love this place. After strolling on the beach, a classic place to pop in for a drink and some seaside bar food. The service was exceptional. The ambiance is what you expect from a beach side restaurant/bar. The only thing that makes it better is when there is live music or karaoke

Caroline C.

Yelp
My group (5 people) were greeted and sat very quickly. There were a lot of open tables when we arrived. However, we sat at our table for over 20 minutes and were never approached by a server. Multiple employees walked past us/looked at our table. Nobody even asked what we would like to drink. We ended up leaving.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
We had the chicken nachos and they were HUGE and amazing!! We had to take a lot of them back to the room and our waiter KEVIN wrapped it up and gave us instructions. Kevin was awesome!! Best personality- awesome server!! Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Phuong N.

Yelp
During HangOut Fest, a friend and I tried their nachos. It was hard to decide which one to get and our server told us we can do half and half. I got the seafood and beef. When the server came out with our nachos, we both knew we could finish it by ourselves. It was massive! The picture doesn't really show how massive it is. The nachos would be great to share with at least three people or four! The only complaint I would have is the chip they use. I just didn't care too much for it.

Dennis R.

Yelp
The view from the deck is 4star and the hostess was nice. Service was super poor and they were out of not one but several food selections. Poorly managed. Did the guy who orders food just not show up this week? Laid back to the point of being out of business.

Bill B.

Yelp
We were told it would be a 30-minute wait for seating. Easily took twice that long although there were many tables available inside and outside. Hostess was rude from the beginning. I grabbed two rounds of drinks at the bar and joined my family outside. After being seated, our waiter took our order and it was 40 minutes before our food arrived. Waiter never returned for refills or to take orders for more beer. They weren't busy enough to be in the weeds that badly. The food was OK... just OK. The place has been recommended by friends, but they hadn't been there in several years.
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
Hands down the best grilled fish we have EVER had. Omg! So good. Jen took amazing care of us, never let our drinks run out! Everyone was so friendly. Amazing drink menu! Definitely give this place a try if ever in town! It is on the beach so the view is amazing. They give 1.5 oz shot pours, which is plenty! Check them out, you will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
This is an updated post-Sally review, for more extended details please see my previous review. This place is literally on the beach so they will always take a beating on severe weather but they've been on this same location in the same building siblbce the 50's and they always bounce back, gotta love the concrete construction and resilience of the people here. It only took a few weeks for them to do repairs and reopen and last repair of the steps onto the beach done very quickly. Nice job! This is one of my very favorite spots on the beach in Gulf Shores because the view is awesome, our regular guy Kevin is really a terrific server and cool dude who everybody looks forward to seeing. Funny stortly, when he has a day off some other servers wear a name tag "Kevin" LOL Let's talk food, the salads are good, the burger is not bad, but a few items are absolutely not to be missed. The gator bites are delicious, fresh and golden brown with a kickin' tiger sauce. The Cajun nachos are outstanding, loaded with cheese, crawfish and shrimp with a rich mushroom sauce with all the fixings on the side (jalapenos, onions, diced tomatoes, sour cream and salsa) all in a giant platter and super tasty. There's another dish is over the top delicious and is my favorite pasta dish on the Gulf coast, it's the Shrimp and Crab Spaghetti, it is crazy good! It's Gulf fresh shrimp, jumbo lump crabmeat and jalapeños tossed in a garlic parmesan cream sauce served with Louisiana French bread. You can opt in or out of the jalapenos or extra onions but I have it with the works. It's easily a big enough serving for two people and is really terrific. They've got lots of other seafood and other offerings but I highly recommend these above mentioned faves. For the full menu and more information check out: https://pinkponypub.net/ The decor is very beach with plastic chairs inside and hearty rusty picnic tables outside with lots of specialty drinks and beers so it's not fancy or fine dining but it is a very good beach spot that a lot of people overlook when it comes to lunch or dinner but they are missing out. Plus there's karaoke :-) Bottom line: Some good food with amazing on-the-beach view and friendly Cheers-like service. Oh by the way, the sun sets out front here all summer long! What's not to love?!
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
This. Place. Is. Incredible. Nestled right on the sugary sand of the Gulf with indoor or outdoor seating. There was no wait! I had the fried grouper (easily the best fried fish I've ever had) with Tartar, fries and Hushpuppies. My boyfriend had the 1/2lb shrimp, grilled. Service was top notch, our server Damian answered all our questions and was super friendly! Great food. Great location.
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
No karaoke... nothing more to say. Sat outside and was disappointed to learn they are closing early each night and there is no karaoke... Hope they can get this turned around and bring the karaoke back!

Yelp
When traveling to Gulf Shores every summer, the Pink Pony Pub is my go to escape for a quick bite and amazing drinks on beach days. The team consistently gives great service and the drinks are delicious. If you are on the beach, make the walk down and grab a drink!

Yelp
First experience and yum! Okay the acoustics are awful, there was a large group in while we were there and I couldn't here the person across the table from me. BUT the food was great, the server was friendly and the one drink our table has was reported to be very good. Do try the gator bites! They are amazing!
