The Best Restaurants Near University of Houston and Texas Southern University | Eater Houston

"Though Pink’s has seven locations, the UH location, which opened in 2014, is significant in that its the first location to offer a full-service bar and a welcoming environment for students to grab an inexpensive meal and a locally-brewed beer with the option of enjoying a study break in the on-site library lounge. The specialty pizzas, including the Big Boss — a meat lover’s-style pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage, beef, and bacon and Canadian bacon — and the Bada Bing, which is topped with prosciutto, bacon, pepperoni, mozzarella, Roma tomato, spinach, and mushroom, are a major draw." - Minh Truong

The service is EXCELLENT! Im not here to give a review to the personal but the food and place I went to another location years back and the pizza was amazing fresh mozzarella great dough I was excited to try the pizza again: 1. Pizza dough feels cheap and the texture wasn’t great , soggy and chewy 2. Cheese quality terrible and the pizza was SALTY !!! 3. For $20+ a large pizza = a medium pizza anywhere else The place looks old , old tables and chairs not inviting at all For $5 you get a better pizza at Little Caesars I will never leave my money in such a mediocre place

**Review of Pinks Pizza** Pinks Pizza delivers a delightful experience for pizza lovers seeking bold flavors and high-quality ingredients. Known for their creative toppings and generous portions, their menu caters to a wide range of preferences—from classic pepperoni to innovative specialty pizzas. The crust is a standout: perfectly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, providing the ideal foundation for their flavorful sauces and fresh toppings. Their commitment to quality is evident in every bite, with premium ingredients like fresh vegetables, savory meats, and gourmet cheeses. The atmosphere in their restaurants is casual and inviting, making it a great spot for a laid-back dinner or a quick lunch. Additionally, their delivery service is prompt, with pizzas arriving hot and fresh. While the prices might be slightly higher than average, the portions and quality justify the cost. For those looking for something beyond pizza, their appetizers, salads, and desserts also hit the mark. Overall, Pinks Pizza is a must-try for anyone craving a memorable pizza experience with a touch of creativity and flavor that stands out from the crowd.

So our beloved love buzz pizza pub closed down permanently. Which sadden and heartbroke us. That place was one of our secret and loved places to go, especially for Valentine's Day. My girl suggested this place, not too far from where love buzz was. You can order by the slice or the whole pizza pie. But they come packed full of toppings, fresh Ingredients, great taste. If I could, I would rate this place higher. It looks like we just found out a new secret Valentine's Day place. Always we ordered the "this guy" and "the big sleep" slices. And got a slice of Hawaii five o to go and a s'mores pizza to go. It's not on the menu, just ask for it. 😉

Pink’s Pizza never misses. The ingredients are always fresh, the crust is perfectly made (seriously it’s amazing), and the flavor is on point every single time. The service is solid, and they’ve got some of the best ranch I’ve ever had with pizza. It hits the spot every time I’m in town. A must-stop for any pizza lover in Houston!

Google
Great pizza, friendly staff, good tunes and just all around great vibes. Pinks always delivers awesome pizza with awesome topping choices. I personally prefer to create my own pizza, but their specialty ones are all great, just more complicated. It’s also awesome they sell pizza by the slice when you don’t want or need a whole pizza. This location made some exceptionally great slices. Don’t forget they sell dough if you want to make some of your own at home!

Google
We got the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and Pizza Stix. At first glance, the pizza stix were a let down. There wasn't much cheese on them, but figured I'd taste it before forming any opinion. After trying it, it ended up just tasting like bread (really flowery bread). I believe it could have been really good with more cheese. I'd give them 2 stars, but could see them being a 4. The buffalo pizza, however, could just be based on personal preference. I've tried buffalo chicken pizza at other places and compared to them, this one was strange. I am not sure if things got mixed up on our order, but it was heavy loaded with rosemary. Not my preferred taste as it threw off the buffalo sauce. Overall, I give our experience a 3 because the crew was nice and it was fast service. Personally, I believe I've had better pizza at other places around Midtown that I would rather go to. But hey, give it a try and this might be your cup of tea.

So good, I ate two slices before I even made it home. I ordered pick-up, fast service and friendly staff. I ordered the cheese and veggie supreme pizzas both were the ‘16. The cheese was my favorite. The cheese pizza had the crispness that I was looking for , just bummed that the veggie wasn’t as crispy. The veggies on the veggie pizza made the pizza somewhat soggy, but still enjoyable so I’m not complaining there. My only wish that I was I could have told them to place both pizzas in the oven twice so I can get that New York style pizza. All-in-all, I had a cute meal and it was very enjoyable. Will be back soon.

Google
I've read other reviews about off nights at Pink's and getting low quality pizzas. After we experienced two off nights, I can say we won't be back. When a $7 domino's pizza tastes better, has more cheese, more pepperonis than a $22 Pinks pizza, something is wrong. After the first low quality pizza, we didn't return for about 3 months, then decided to give them another chance. When the two pepperoni pizzas were delivered, I knew they were off before I even opened the box. They felt very light, so assume they cut back the quantity of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni to save money, but keep charging over $20 a pizza. There are too many other good, high-quality pizza options in Houston. We won't be back to Pink's.

Yelp
One of my favorite pizza spots in Houston, especially if you're dairy free!! If you're not dairy free- get the Lazy Lasagna. I hate lasagna but I swear this is the best pizza!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Got the gluten-free, dairy-free supreme pizza. Im not too picky and just appreciate being able to eat pizza with these restrictions, but compared to all the other places I've had it from this is pretty darn bad. First, bc they didn't bother to to book it. Mostly raw bell peppers etc. Even the pepperoni seemed uncooked/added after the fact. Very little sauce or cheese. And the crust is ROCK hard, and I do mean rock, even though the rest of the pizza is undercooked. $40+ for a small nearly inedible pizza (literally HS cafeterias get it better). I'd call and ask for a refund (bc the crust is that fundamentally terrible that a replacement would be pointless), but they're closed. Again: I'm usually thrilled w/any pizza that meets my restrictions so I'm not really picky, but this was *that* bad :(. Ps. If you're in Houston and need gluten-free dairy-free, Pepperoni's on Monrose was way WAYYY better.

Yelp
This Hawaiian pizza....wow. If you think pineapple doesn't belong on pizza, you're wrong. The sweet and savory combo hits!! Italians don't come for me please. Just a solid local pizza spot that does not miss!!

Yelp
Great Pizza! Pink's Pizza in Montrose serves up tasty pizza with plenty of fun toppings. They offer pizza by the slice or whole and the service is great. My go-to is simply olive and mushrooms. Five stars.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could give -5 I would. I have gone to this location three times to order pizza and also order some dough balls to bring home and bake it. Every time I go in, I see the employee touching the touchscreen of the cash register, then open the cooler and grab the dough bare hand and place it in the to go container. I have asked few times now to at least handle raw dough with gloves but it seems like they don't care.

Yelp
This place is highly starred in Houston and was offering slices so I gave it a shot. It was unexpectedly tasty. The atmosphere is warm, the staff is friendly and very helpful. Pizza didn't take very long, and was absolutely delicious. Pizza slices are generous and tasty. Friendly staff, pleasant experience, will be back!
google avatar

Alexandra P.

Yelp
This is pizza spot I order from the most since moving to the area. The Classic is easily once of the best margherita pizza slice you can get in Houston! The cheese bread is also one of my favorites from here. I mostly order to go and they are always efficient and have my pizza ready on time. They offer inside sitting, but it is very limited. The place is pretty clean inside and the workers are always friendly. Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for good pizza!
google avatar

Mattie L.

Yelp
Pink Pizza has the best pizza. No matter when I go in to order, their pizza is top of the line and always great!! I won't go anywhere else. Always ten stars.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
We frequently order pizza for delivery from pink's. The service is fast and easy. The pizza is always high quality though some times it has arrived cold. Have not been in person yet so can't comment on the dining room itself or service in the restaurant but will be trying it soon because we love the pizza!
google avatar

Debra O.

Yelp
We had not ordered from here in probably 5 years. This review is for today. I placed my order online and it indicated my order would be ready for pick up in 45 min. There was a tracker that showed it was being prepared. It never showed ready. I showed up at the time I had been given and my pizza was ready as well as barely warm. I would guess it had been sitting there for around 20 minutes. The crust was ok. The pizza unimpressive. Bottom was a bit pale. All in all there are other choices nearby and we will not be ordering from here again. I remember 14 years ago excellent pizza. Not anymore.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
This is the worst pinks in houston. I highly recommend ordering from the pinks in rice Millitary! It's worth the extra 5 min drive. This pinks is awful with placing toppings. It usually doesn't have enough sauce and way less of every ingredient. It's also substantially greasier than every other pinks. Last time I ordered I paid over $2 for pepperoni to get 12 pepperonis on it. The other pinks location gave me 22. I also paid for ricotta which you can't see in the picture because they put it under the normal cheese which melted into a butter like consistency so that when you picked up a slice all the toppings slide off. Literally every time I order from this pinks it's a disaster of a pizza and tastes awful. The rice Millitary pinks is a 5 star pizza every time. This one I'm generous with my 2 stars.

John E.

Yelp
They forgot the anchovies. Everything else was fine, But when you order a pizza and request anchovies, there needs to be anchovies, or else you didn't fire the order correctly.
google avatar

Monica F.

Yelp
Whether ordering slices or whole pies, Pink's never disappoints! This tiny little place offers very limited seating (like maybe 4 tables), pickup and delivery. I generally get slices, so I can have variety. The crust is perfect, and 2 slices for little 'ol' meat hits the spot every time. They offer sodas, too. Wish they had alcohol, but they don't!
google avatar

Wendy O.

Yelp
Easily the best, hands down gluten and dairy free pizza I've ever had! The crust didn't come out of the fridge or freezer, wasn't premade. It was legit pizza crust. Sooo delicious! Whenever we're back in town, we'll be back again. (For allergen sensitive people: we had zero cross contamination reactions too. Which you know we appreciated.)
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
I had a slice of Pink's. Each slice is Made to Order for less than $5.00 Plenty. I ordered mushrooms , with extra mushrooms. Delicious. Great Service offered parm and pepper. Pizza quality was excellent. Even crust was delish!
google avatar

Candice T.

Yelp
Pizza comes out fresh! Got the lasagna pizza. Not much flavor. Gonna try again to see if I get more flavor with more toppings. The crust was great. Friendly. Cute place. Priced right, filling.
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
Loved the crust flavor and the service was quick. Nothing special about the ambiance the inside is small but was clean.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Plus half a star because of service The service is super friendly and gracious. I ordered two slices and the person who prepared the pizza thought one of the slices was underwhelming so I was given an additional slice for free. Very nice. The pizza is edible. But pretty much all pizza is so that's not necessarily saying much. The size of the slices (the slices that were of the standard of the server that is) were good. The pizza had ZERO sauce so it was basically eating a thick cut of cheese on top of dough. I asked for an additional marinara which was a bit confusing at first but made a difference. On the next visit I will request my slices with less cheese and more sauce and see if that makes the experience of the food better.
google avatar

Janet S.

Yelp
I usually order from the Heights location, but I'm at a friend's place for the weekend so we tried the Montrose Pink's closer to her house. The pizza was not quiiiite as good, but still servicable, no real complaints there. The hot wings on the other hand were really bad. All I could taste was maybe nutmeg? It was super strange. They had this bizarre kind of pumpkin-pie-without-the-sweet aroma. I wouldn't have ordered them if there weren't a $25 minimum on the order for delivery, so that's also kinda annoying.
google avatar

Dominique D.

Yelp
The pizza is bomb if you're craving Pizza pizza and not Round Tables or Pizza Hut. There's a huge variety of different pizzas to choose from and if you don't see the pizza that you want, don't be afraid to make your own. Came in with some girlfriends and had the time of our lives. The staff here is super friendly, fun, and just a great addition to an already great pizza spot. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
I've seen people raving about this place on IG for a year and I don't get the hype. When I walked in there was no one else waiting to be served. It's a small place. Maybe 4 tables and 3 stools. The slices were pretty pricey and charged per topping. I asked the lady taking my order what her favorite was and she said The Southwestern. It's their version of bbq chicken pizza plus jalapeños. The bbq sauce was pretty tasty, but I don't like their cheese or how they dice the chicken in little pieces. The pineapple bacon pizza was a disaster. Too much cheese, too many pineapples. And bacon bits. How disrespectful to a pizza! Bacon bits... like I can't. The service was friendly but this is subpar pizza. I prefer a better quality cheese for this price ($12 for 2 slices) and real bacon. Like crispy pieces of bacon that look like, ya know, BACON.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Words cannot describe how terrible of a pizza this is for $30. I ordered through uber eats. I ate a piece of one slice because i was hungry but im never ordering from this place again. There is barely any sausage on the pizza and it taste like it been sitting on the counter somewhere.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
One of the best pizza slices in Houston! It had one of the best cheese pulls that just melts in your mouth. It was a bit pricey, a long wait, and limited seating and parking though.
google avatar

JaDaven E.

Yelp
You know I really enjoyed this pizza! I got a supremo and I thought it was very good. However I'll say, it's good when compared to mainstream pizza places (dominos, Pizza Hut, papa johns) but when you put it up against some of the hole in the wall family owned pizza joints I'm not so sure this place holds up to those kinds of standards. My fiancé absolutely hated this pizza though and that's what made me drop a few stars. It was also kind of pricey to me. Would I recommend it to someone as my top pizza place, no probably not, will I be back? More than likely.

Yelp
Since relocating to Houston almost two years ago, I have been on a quest to find good pizza. I had heard that Pink's Pizza is the best pizza in town, so we decided to pick up a pie to go. The menu made it seem like we couldn't go wrong with any of the pizzas--they all sound delicious! We settled on a This Guy, which comes with chicken, prosciutto, sausage, spinach, goat cheese, mushroom, and tomato. It seemed like it would be packed with flavor. It took 40 minutes for one pizza to be ready for takeout on a Wednesday night. I've only waited that long for deep dish. When I finally got my first bite, I was disappointed. Honestly, the flavors of so many different toppings didn't stand out, and I am not a huge fan of their sauce. I will say they got their crust right, but that's about it. Pink's is just average in my opinion, and the quest continues.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
While the pizza is delicious, cheap it is not! Nor are the toppings overly generous. I stopped by the Gray st.shop for the first time in awhile. Ordered a large 1/2 Hawaiian, 1/2 Mediterranean pizza, cost almost $25, almost $30 with tip. I asked for no onion or fresh tomato on the Med. Side. The rep repeated everything correctly back to me. When I was given the pizza, I noticed fresh tomatoes but figured it was put on in error so I'd pick them off rather than make any sort of deal about it. Halfway home (almost to Spring), I looked at it again and noticed how sparse the toppings were. Than I noticed no mushrooms on the tag. If I'm spending that kind of money on a pizza, it should be right. And make up for the toppings I don't want with something else. I counted 3 olives on the Med. Side of a large pizza. THREE!!! I contacted the restaurant and they made it right. I have to commend the customer service. I'm sure that the next time, i can give a glowing review! Thanks Pinks. **EDIT**I returned to Pinks recently. The pizza was delicious. Everything was right & the toppings were plentiful.

Yelp
Enjoy getting a custom crafted slice or whole pie at this neighborhood pizzeria. No splash, no gimmicks, no over-the-top apps or infinite combination of ingredients. Just order one of their well designed pizzas and pay a very affordable price. Go home and enjoy your evening streaming sports or movies while eating pizza and drinking be. Make life a simple and positive experience.

Ann Z.

Yelp
Pizza was good but the reason for this review is the non-disclosure of use of common allergens on the menus found online. We order pizza and cheesecake. The cheesecake is FULL OF NUTS to which I am highly allergic. What is it with the freakin' Texans who can't make food without putting nuts all over it AND not disclosing it on their menu? Can you tell this is not the first time this has happened to us? Waste of my money. Tried to call the Montrose location (West Gray) to complain and their voicemail says we are calling outside of business hours. Um...it's Saturday night at 6:30. I think somebody didn't turn off the "away" message....

Yelp
After a few visits to Pink's--for take out and delivery--it's time I yelp them! I strolled in one night, 10-ish, to find the door was locked. Wha?! I'm hungry! Fortunatly, they were indeed open, they just keep the doors locked at night to keep the wanderers out. (By "wanderers," I don't mean the bar hoppers. The friendly counter chick informed me of a few instances with "crack heads." Wowza. So I ordered one giant slice of cheese peeksa and a "build your own salad." I'm a huge fan of thin crust pizza--crispy, thin crust pizza. It wasn't crispy at all, rather it was a super thin and floppy slice, once that needs to be folded in half to consume. It took me two days to finish the slice. Not kidding. Tonight I decided on delivery (which has a $14 minimum, though delivery is free). When I phoned Pink's, I was unsure what I wanted. Tough call between the fettucini Alfredo and a meatball sub. The fellow over the phone suggested the meatball sub "for sure." With a side of wings (had to up the bill to meet the minimum), I was good to go, and it was delivered within about 20 minutes. The sub was amazing. It was packed with Italian herbs; and the bread was super toasty and had a garlic kick to it. Highly suggested. The wings were kinda overcooked, but I guess I'd rather take that than undercooked.
google avatar

Scott P.

Yelp
Walked to the counter and said do you do Sicilian by the slice and they said "what's a Sicilian slice". Strike 1. Then I asked, can I have one with meatball, "we don't have meatball, we have Italian sausage". Strike 2 The pizza came out and it looked like chuck-e-cheese pizza at best! The pizza was sooooo floppy and tasted like garbage. Very cheap on the "Italian sausage" too. Strike 3-4-5-6 You should be ashamed to sell by the slice let alone be a pizza place. Never again
google avatar

Yelp
Pinks website SUCKS!! It's is confusing and completely not user-friendly. Twice now I have ordered a pizza for delivery that ended up sitting at the store because I didn't toggle the correct switch on their website. I feel like this entire ordering process on the web could be incredibly better. I will acknowledge that it is my error that has created this problem. But this website is not user-friendly in any way shape or form. It is the MySpace of pizza ordering. While I do you think their pizza is some of the best in town I remain adamant in thinking that the website fucking sucks. If anyone from the management staff from pink's Pizza read this review please update your website to be more user-friendly. As it currently stands it is in adequate and largely not user-friendly.
google avatar

Gabriel V.

Yelp
I liked Pink's Pizza. It's all young workers with many customers so I understand that they were slow but it was a little too long of a wait. I got one jumbo slice and it was good. I don't think it's anything too special but it's worth trying here if your usual pizza spot is getting boring or if you want to try something new.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Was in the area during a night of drinking and stopped by for a slice of Supremo to help me sober up. Pizza was decent and hit the spot! Great to be able to just Customer service is so so, but what do you expect..
google avatar

Sasha L.

Yelp
I dropped my pizza on the floor about halfway through it and they made another one free of charge. Of course, I left a generous tip. This place was very good and excellent service, highly recommend!!!

Malakwen M.

Yelp
By far one of the best pinks I've had the pleasure of dining at. Huge shout out to John D and his evening shift crew. Fantastic pizza great service better people!
google avatar

Jeilca G.

Yelp
Cheese bread is my favorite from here. Great online ordering made simple and efficient. Location is clean and friendly. I will definitely be back.

Jamie M.

Yelp
Reliably some of the best crust in town, and fantastic combos that include delectable pairings with goat cheese. Usually inflated prices, I hope it goes to the workers... Who are nice.

Haley C.

Yelp
Normally love pinks. But this pizza was sooo flat. I wonder if they changed their dough... pretty disappointed.
google avatar

Bradford G.

Yelp
TLDR: Great place to hit after the bars. Slices are decently priced and come out hot and crispy. Do it. Visit: Weekend (late night) Order: 2 slices (Cheese/Pepperoni) Rating: 7.6/10 One bite, everyone knows the rules... Whenever I'm in the area and feel the craving for pizza, this is my go to spot. The crust at pinks is on the thinner, crispier side (which I like), but does occasionally have a bit of flop if covered in toppings. I'm a simple guy, so I usually opt for a standard slice of cheese or pepperoni... sometimes with anchovies don't judge me. The pizza here is standard and consistently delicious. Is it the best slice you'll ever have in your life? No. Is it worth going? You bet your azz it is. Do it.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
One of the best Pizza places in Houston if just getting a slice I recommend the Hawaiian Five O for $3.50 vs the Rocco witch is awesome but by the slice has to many topping you are much better off getting a whole Pie.
google avatar

Tracy M.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst customer service. I placed an online order and wanted to tell the driver to call when they arrived since I'm in a gated community. It's been over an hour and I've called about 10 times throughout the hour with not anyone answering. I called the Montrose location instead to see if the person could pass on the message and the women that picked up said she couldn't help me at all and she was very busy then hung up on me. Horrible customer service and will not be using again.

Scout 8.

Yelp
Best pizza by the slice and they are always quick to get it out. I haven't found a bad experience at any of the locations.
google avatar

Macy B.

Yelp
We normally love Pink's but not this time around. We ordered a small cheese pizza with spinach and beef toppings. We had 2 slices until we realized that the pizza came with literally 4 countable pieces!! When you're paying $1.50 per topping you'd expect them to at least by there!
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Wow that was a terrible piece of pizza. Found Pinks because I happened to be down near them at the passport office and they are one of a few places that sell by the slice. Only needed a quick bite but damn it, $5.50+tax for a slice of pizza with a couple of vegetables on top of it? And it sucked to boot? I give two stars because it was hot and it was fast but that's about all I can say for this place.
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
We used Amazon Prime to order a 16" Supremo for dinner. Easy order, perfectly cooked, very fresh, delivered steaming hot in 35 minutes from order placement. Our other go-to pizza house never asks for less than 1 hour delivery and, while good pizza, is delivered somewhere between warm and cold. This will be our new go-to pizza maker. Amazon prime does add cost but is quick and efficient plus includes tax, delivery and tip for a cashless painfree transaction.

Isaac P.

Yelp
This place has very good food but is nasty and unhygienic there are bats infesting the bathroom and I'm sure other places to
google avatar

Timothy B.

Yelp
I do enjoy pizza with my face and Pinks filsl my face with their delicious pie. If your face hole need filled Pinks pizza will fill you.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
I ordered one 16" pizza and breadsticks at 7:39pm; it is now 9:04pm and I am still pizza-less. Also, I live literally 0.5 miles away. Unbelievable - never again. I've bumped up my original score from a one to a three. After I complained to Pinks on the phone, the manager was super nice and understanding given how hangry I was. Our pizza did take over an hour to arrive and was lukewarm, but management sent over a second order in under 30 minutes and comped both pizzas. Additionally, their marketing department reached out to me to offer me a gift certificate. I'll give them another chance because of their customer service and their pizza is delicious when it gets delivered in a timely fashion.
google avatar

Meredith V.

Yelp
Pink's Pizza is addictive. I'm so happy that the new location delivers to my front door and matches the quality of the original location. The magic of Pink's is the perfect crust. It's not too thick or thin and has a perfect snap and flavor. I also love their unusual combinations and am determined to try them all. This will be a difficult task because I'm obsessed with the Santa Monica...the more cranberry goo, the better! The Magnifico is also interesting and original...italian beef and hot peppers on a pizza? Genius. Any downsides? Yes, the price...two pizzas with tip is around $40. I've also received pies that weren't cut. A major bummer when your group is hungry and ready to eat...fixed easily enough, but a little annoying.
