"It is impossible to list the best places to eat near Harvard without a nod to Pinocchio’s Pizza & Subs. A Harvard Square staple, Pinnochio’s has been serving up Sicilian-style pizza to hungry college students for over 50 years. If the smells of marinara sauce and garlic that emanate from the small shop don’t pull you in, the fact that they stay open until 1 a.m. most nights (and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday) will." - Celina Colby, Annie Harrigan

Loved the Sicilian Pizza slice over here!! 2 slices for $9.5 is decent pricing and is a pretty heavy snack. Highly recommend having the Tomato Basil slice. Great service and definitely plan on being pretty frequent over here. Plenty of veg options available and decent service staff too

This place has amazing pizza! You can order a whole pie or just grab a slice. My husband introduced me to it, and it's popular with many well-known people—their photos are all over the walls. They offer a variety of flavors. I tried the chicken and pesto slice, and it was delicious. If you're nearby and looking for a quick bite, this is the perfect spot!

Google
Great pizza but bring your appetite, they are HUGE! I had a slice of honey garlic and it was amazing! My husband and 3 boys shared a small pepperoni and couldn't finish it. Small dining area, lots of orders while we were there but most people order to go.

A Harvard tradition and local favorite for decades! Authentic, street-vendor, Italian pizza off the beaten path! Reminded me instantly of street vendor pizza that we had in Sienna, Italy. The location is quaint and cozy, clean and hospitable with quick service and cheap prices. The location was also mentioned in the hit TV series Suits.

Was in cambridge the other day late at night and didnt have a ton of options, ended up at "Pinocchio's pizza and subs". Standard cheese and tomatoe & basil. cheese pizza was done very well tomatoes and basil was good 7.8/10 for me

Google
Below average pizza. We got two slices of the pepperoni pizza. The crust was not fresh, tasted like heated supermarket crust pizza. Place looked so dirty and worn down. Not a pleasant place to eat in.

Google
I love everything about this place. The atmosphere reminds me of so many college town pizzerias, but this is the only place I've been to that specializes in Sicilian pies. Got a spinach slice before a wedding and returned after the reception for some kind of beautiful tomato pie. I'd be a regular if I lived anywhere near them

Google
If you’re looking for an authentic Italian place then I would highly recommend this place. The atmosphere very much felt like I was in a pizza store in Italy. The customer service was great, I got a sub and I like how they call you up and ask you what you want on it. My only critique is that the small cheeseburger sub was smaller than expected and I think was a bit overpriced(paid $10.50). Other than that the sub was delicious and I do see myself returning here to try their pizza :)

Yelp
This is my favorite no-frills pizza place in the US. I've been eating here for the past 20 years, starting when I was in college and living in Cambridge, and each time I have returned. I was back in Boston last week and had to stop in for a few slices. Of all the food we ate over our 5 day trip, Pinocchio's was the favorite for 3 out of 4 in our group. The tomato basil, peppers and onions, and garlic and honey pizzas were our favorite and had not diminished in quality over the past 20 years. The service is typically East Coast, they value efficiency over chit-chat, but are by no means hostile. The staff speak English and Spanish. The ambiance is decidedly mom-and-pop or hole in the wall with room for about 15 people to sit--so if you are coming around noon expect to get your pizza to go.

Susan Y.

Yelp
Ordered one small Sicilian with mushrooms, onions and tomato & basil, and one large Sicilian with pepperoni and jalapenos. I called the night before to pre-order and it was ready by the pick up time! Pizza was delicious and will be back

Yelp
Quick pizza spot next to Harvard. Cute with all the lights and decor inside. Service is quick. They take your order and head it up and hand it to you. They have many options but we opted for the Chicken Pesto and Pepperoni! The pizza is crispy which is nice but there is nothing really special about it. It was just a normal slice to me. Good for a quick snack if you're starving.

Yelp
Just passing through as a tourist. Googled this place to discover it is a regular favorite for the surrounding Harvard crowd. Stopped by for lunch, saw the massive togo order. Tried the local favorite Sicilian pep pizza two slices. Sauce is good, to me the pie is more akin to a half size Chicago deep dish. Saw the wall of celebrities including FB founder and Julian Edelman and others. Totally like the place . Thank you for the experience

Yelp
Sometimes it takes a while for redemption. After a concert nearby, she wanted some late-night eats and decided on something easy like pizza. I went for the buffalo chicken pizza. The slice was quite large and had a good amount of chicken. The pizza itself wasn't too burnt and was baked nicely. Also an important aspect was that the pizza was warm. Service was quick but informative and nice. Good spot for a cheap bite around an area that's getting more and more expensive for eats.

Damien K.

Yelp
Pinocchio's is a great place to grab a slice. I used to go here all the time when I used to work in Harvard Square. The location is sort of tight, so the ambiance is really a get in, and get out type of vibe. Which is absolutely fine, I just want to go in, and get my grandma slice to go. Lot of options for topping types, and they will quickly throw it in the oven to reheat and get you on your way. Its been here forever, and will probably continue to be as well. Service is fine, food is fine. You could go a lot worse, but this is good if your in a rush.

Chris M.

Yelp
It is located on a side street a couple of blocks from Harvard square. It has six tables if you decide to stay versus take out. I had a meatball sub, a small but it was large enough for one serving. The meatballs had a lot of filler. I think it was bread. That accounts for the four meatballs in a small. This accounts for the decrease in stars from 5 to 4. They have a variety if Sicilian pizza if that is what you are looking for. Overall the service was good. I had the help twice offer to help me. If I was in the neighborhood and had hankering for pizza, I would return.

Jay M.

Yelp
Another great steak , cheese, grilled onions ... this one best one yet ... steak cooked tender, roll perfect toast, melted cheese... onions abundant

Vishwesh R.

Yelp
Guess the hype only comes from location and history. Sicilian pizza slices are filling but don't taste fresh at all. The regular thin crust pizza was freshly baked but nothing outstanding. Also the staff could definitely put some effort into being more friendly.

Susan B.

Yelp
What a disappointment! I used to love this place when I was in school. Saw the opera ratings were still high and decided to go again when I was in the Square. What happened to the pizza? I got the thin crust which was not pizza dough. It tasted more like bread. But not good bread. Everything about the Pizza was off. One of the worst pizzas I've ever had, including frozen. Maybe I got the wrong thing. A lot of people were eating the Sicilian.

John A.

Yelp
Pretty cool Harvard square pizza. Great dough makes great pizza. Great little hole in the wall. Served many types of slices. Very fresh Service was fast.

Megan Y.

Yelp
Came here for a late night slice post concert and it was packed. We got the mushroom and tomato basil slices, which were great, however I did want the veggie and artichoke, neither of which they had available unfortunately :( Also had them catered once and it was really good! Just wish they stocked the slices that are on the menu.

J S.

Yelp
So good we got a T shirt. Our second time in Boston and this was our very first stop. It's just as good as I remember. A large pizza didn't stand a chance. Maybe it was our Pinocchio's merch but the service was top notch. Always a good time. Always good food.

Josephine D.

Yelp
I love me a good late night pizza spot! I was visiting in the area and helped myself to a couple slices. Small store front, so it's a little cramped for big groups, but otherwise it's great. Food came out quick. It was cheesy and delicious. What more can I ask for

Sidnie B.

Yelp
Loved their Sicilian Slice pizza! I got the Tomato and Basil Sicilian and it was great. It did get a little soggy after a couple of minutes, but the flavor was still really great. Awesome prices and really nice service. There's also pictures of mark Zuckerberg everywhere which was cool!

Adina S.

Yelp
As a Jersey girl, I've always struggled to find good pizza in the Boston area. I think the reason I like Pinocchios is that they don't try to perfect the New York slice. Their pizza feels like something totally different, with the square slices and the thick crust. This time, I ordered the sausage and chicken pesto. I was a bit underwhelmed by the sausage because they were stingy with the toppings. The chicken pesto had a really nice flavor, but again, very little chicken. Still, the slices were quite delicious. However, they really could have warmed up the pizza a bit more, as they turned out just above room temperature. The service here is very fast, so this place is perfect if you're looking for something on the go. It's a casual spot with some seating, but it's really nothing fancy. Recommend for a quick slice!

Chris M.

Yelp
Their website reads "For other delivery orders log in to Doordash, GrubHub or Ubereats and they will deliver to you within 45 minutes, it's very simple!" It was not so simple. We ordered on DoorDash and they waited 45min to cancel the order.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Cozy pizza place in Harvard Square! They are known for their square pizzas, which have a crispy, fluffy, and thick crust. I had the pepperoni pizza and the tomato basil pizza, which were both great! The service is super quick and they accept credit card for orders over $8. There is very limited seating inside.

Kevin Z.

Yelp
TLDR: The ol' reliable for late-night cravings. Crunch crust square pizza, let it rest a bit after getting it straight out of the oven. 8/10. "Square Pizza. Where do you get it?... Any self-respecting Harvard alumnus would know. It's Pinnochios." If the Harvard kids have been chowing down on Pinnochio's for decades, we might as well give it a shot. And damn, was it worth it: Coming out of a football game with a sore throat, tired feet, and a growling stomach, and then just squatting on a staircase while chowing down on some freshly baked pizza with friends, ain't nothing beating that. Since it was fresh and hot, the cheese hadn't gotten a chance to settle and firm up before I finished the whole dang slice, so I must say that I didn't have the best experience with the extra pizza grease, burned tongue, and cheese sliding off the dough. However, that pizza was still a dang solid. The sausage hits the right spot, and the flavors came with a punch. Especially enjoyable with some company.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
The restaurant is super small so it was very crowded when we stopped by for lunch today. Only a few tables and we were lucky to snag one when we did. I love that they had Pepsi products! The staff were all really nice. The food was fine- probably what we ordered (garden salad, which was okay, nothing special) and my son had a steak and cheese sub which he said was okay. Maybe a little small for the price, but he could have ordered a larger one too. The pizza smelled amazing.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Ponochios Pizza in Cambridge, MA, is a legit spot we hit up after a local hardcore concert. We grabbed their Sicilian sausage slices--dang, that thick crispy crust on the bottom was fire. Sauce game was on point too, no lie, we couldn't even wait for 'em to cool. Crazy thing, we found out we're chowing down at the table where Mark Zuckerberg and his crew brainstormed Facebook. Like, whoa, right? This spot's officially our post-gig go-to now. And get this, Noch's been doing their thing for a whopping 50 years, since back in 1966, serving up to Harvard and the whole scene. They're all about that award-winning Sicilian-style pizza and some killer steak subs. And seriously, those reviews aren't messing around--this place is legit. They even got a shout-out on 'Suits,' which says something. So yeah, if you're up for some solid grub, hit up Ponochios. Solid choice, no doubt.

Joseph L.

Yelp
Pizza and subs in Harvard Square! This is my go to spot for late night food when I'm in the area. It's tucked away in an unassuming side street, and vibes are casual, classic, Italian pizzeria with a menu focused on pizza and sandwiches. Me and my friends always go for their Sicilian slices which are very filling and very delicious; they're generously topped, and on an empty stomach two slices are usually more then enough for me. My favorite slices are their buffalo chicken, pesto chicken, and honey chicken -- I recommend any of these if it's your first time. The space is not too big, so you may not be able to grab a seat during busy hours but it's definitely worth it to stop by anyways and take the slice somewhere else in the area. The service is quick, and the pizza always hits the spot (bonus if you catch them pulling out fresh pies from the oven) -- always a good experience when I come here!

Adela G.

Yelp
Came here for a slice and it was great! It was made quickly and tasted great. It was Sicilian style pizza and I think the crust was corn(which I love). Will definitely come back!

Della S.

Yelp
I was drawn in by the long lines and cheap prices (1 slice for $4.15, 2 slices for $8.05) but I really can't see myself coming back. For late night eats I'd much rather stop by some of the other spots in Harvard square. We got 2 slices of the buffalo chicken pizza which had just been baked and was ready to go. The crust: THICK. If you are a fan of crunchy pizza crusts, you might like the crust here, but the combination of crunchy+thick crust led to very dry mouthfuls. The dough itself did not have that much flavor. Sauce: there was a lot of buffalo sauce on the pizza but it barely soaked through the thick, dry crust that desperately needed some hydration. Cheese: if there was cheese on the pizza I did not taste it. Toppings: while the buffalo chicken pizza had plenty of buffalo sauce, it lacked chicken. I could taste some tiny bits of chicken on the slice but they were barely noticeable. Each bite was mostly crust. This is a very popular late-night spot among Harvard undergrads, but it feels like the rapid pizza production has led to compromised quality.

Paul E.

Yelp
Pinocchios is a Harvard Square institution that I hope will always be there. The Sicilian style pizza is the best I have ever had & is always worth the extra cost compared to the regular. The place is modest & with a simple menu it's easy to choose what you want to eat.

Nikhil R.

Yelp
Pinocchio makes great pizza. We always go with different slices of vegetarian options, and all of them slack. These are all deep dish, so the crust is one of the best parts of a pizza. On top of that, they keep the ingredients fresh and bountiful. This is a fantastic option if you need good food really quickly as they have plenty of ready-made options to select from.

Neha M.

Yelp
Whether it's late night or you're just craving a quality slice of pizza, this is the place to go! They always have hot fresh slices ready to pick up at any time of the day. It's hidden on a corner in Harvard Square so it's easy to miss but the line outside might give it away, I got the cheese pizza and it was the perfect balance of cheese to sauce. The sauce was almost sweet which went really well with the cheese and crust. Overall, it's definitely worth a try!

Phil H.

Yelp
Sicilian style pizza. Spinach is my favorite one. Sounds weird but trust me, it works somehow.

Andreas S.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed the steak and cheese at this place! Pizzas are OK. It's become my go-to spot for late-night cravings. This is a famous hangout place in Harvard Square for decades, and the quick service is always appreciated. Solid 4 stars!

Aj S.

Yelp
Delicious. Extremely friendly service. Got a slice of cheese Sicilian and loved it. Recommend!

Greg W.

Yelp
Oh, Pinocchios... the quintessential "establishment" in Harvard Square late night places. Often nostalgically referred to as "Noch's (Nokes if sounded out)" the real star of the show here is the Sicilian pizza, but not the Boston style which is thinner than Nochs... it is more along the lines of what I grew up with in Western PA, which is basically pizza on a focaccia dough (with less oil than focaccia). Is it fancy? No. Pricey? Middle of the road but 1 Sicilian will furnish you 4+ meals as a single individual. It really hits all the notes of what you want as a local pizza joint or "dive" as it has become popular to call it. I don't think you can go wrong with the pizza, but I can't speak to the rest of the menu as I've become so obsessed with the Sicilian 'Za that there is no other option other than a salad to cut through all the awesome flavor and richness of the pizza. We also have never eaten AT Noch's... we have only done takeout or delivery and I'm not sure I would have it any other way. It's easily in my top 3 pizza places in Boston, which I will NOT back down from. I'd put it up against any other Sicilian pizza in the Northeast and Boston. If you are a fan of this thicc type of 'Za... don't hesitate and make sure you TARGET Noch's at some point soon!

Lisa P.

Yelp
This pizzeria is so flavorful and tasty. However, I find it to be a bit dry. The slices are also not that big compared to the pizza I have tried at other places. It is a great place to check out if you are a pizza lover like myself. Sometimes it gets crowded during the evening so it takes some time to get your order and the seating is also crowded.

Baldemar R.

Yelp
Maybe not the friendliest staff but they weren't rude. So I'm fresh from the NYC streets and trying multiple pizza joints out there so know what I like and what I'm looking for in a pie. First off I don't know if they only make square pizzas but that's what I went for. Usually I order a fresh pie and wait it out but today I had no time to wait today. Went with a pepperoni and a sausage and gave them a chance. Mark Zuckerberg was spot on! Very light and not doughy which I liked and maybe others might not. Now they slices are obviously not as fresh as a made to order but I can imagine how much better it might taste. If your around Harvard Square stop by.

Nicole C.

Yelp
This pizza was bomb. It's a small little place tucked away on a side street, but well worth the visit. I will definitely be back. Even when ordering at the counter, the staff offered amazing suggestions and made us feel right at home. It was so so good!

Amy X.

Yelp
Extremely satisfying thick squares of pizza. I haven't had thick, doughy pizza like this in a long time, since most places now tend to be thin crust. Warning that the honey chicken is spicy. Unfortunately I only had a bite before abandoning that piece as it was too spicy for my low spice tolerance. No frills inside in a way that feels fun, it's so casual.

Annie Y.

Yelp
This place is near Harvard, so it's a nice walking distance if you're visiting from Harvard. They have limited indoor seatings and the place is pretty small. The cashier didn't have a welcoming attitude and was busy doing other things. We ordered their Honey Garlic Chicken and Tomato Basil pizza. The pizzas comes out quickly and are in squares. The pizzas are really soft and do taste good. The Honey Garlic Chicken was very hone-y and garlic-y. The Tomato Basil was okay, still good, but nothing special in my opinon. Recommendation(s): - Honey Garlic Chicken Service: 3/5 Tip(s): - Limited indoor seating - They accept Apple Pay

Wes R.

Yelp
This is a mixed review. First time ordering from here and didn't look at their menu. That is my fault, but why would this be an acceptable pizza to send out. We wanted a Margherita pizza, but they didn't know what it was. So we got a tomato, mozz and basil pizza. The picture is their interpretation of it. Looks similar to their Rossa slice, which is what I guess they interpreted it as. The slice wasn't great, But the elements were not bad. Crust was good and crunchy under carriage. Pizza sauce was a bit in the saltier side. If there were actually any toppings on the one we got, it would definitely be rated higher

DJ W.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in a while and stopped in for a slice. Was shocked at the grease and unsatisfactory taste. Going to come back another time and see if it was just an aberration

Annie W.

Yelp
We came pretty early in the morning and had heard a lot about the famous Pinnochios Pizza. They only had cheese and pepperoni slices available, which was rather sad, but it just goes to show how freshly made their pizza is. We ordered one slice of cheese and pepperoni and decided to wait for more pizza to be ready, since they told us sausage would be out of the oven in around 15 minutes. The cheese and pizza slices were both burning hot when we got them, and the cheese to sauce ratio and the crust were both absolutely perfect. Just the plain pizza was super good and the pepperoni was salty and tasty. While eating, the pizza w/ sausage was ready, and we ordered two slices of that. Both of the pizzas were incredible, and left us wanting more. I definitely recommend coming a little earlier in the morning, if you don't mind having less options. We were able to grab a table, when normally, I would expect the restaurant to be pretty crowded. There was only one other table of guests, and it was a great experience. Their pizza is incredible, and we would definitely visit again if we had the chance.

Simply E.

Yelp
The best tasting, freshest Sicilian pizza you can find. Nice size slices, different toppings and open late. Friendly and fast service

Irene B.

Yelp
My friend who went to Harvard said that this was a popular spot for a lot of students so we decided to check it out. You know it's legit when the pizza is cut into squares. The place inside is super cute, not very big, but quite homey and warm especially with the unique wall art. We ordered the chicken pesto, chicken bbq, caprese, and the sausage pizza. The crust was pretty thick but crispy at the same time- quite unique especially as someone who is used to thinner crust pizza from LA. Definitely worth the try. The caprese, chicken pesto/bbq was pretty good but nothing too special. The sausage pizza however was probably my favorite since had the most flavor-- probably from the fat of the meat. Pretty fast service and would recommend for anyone the area to check it out!

Nicole D.

Yelp
Pinocchio's pizza has the most amazing crust. I wish they would introduce funky sauces or combos to the vegetarian-friendly slices, but I enjoyed the veggie pizza. The tomato & basil pizza was lacking some flavor though. The portion sizes were pretty great!! I was super full with 2 slices; highly recommend this place for a quick pick-me-up. I liked taking it to go and just sitting in Harvard Square with a couple friends. The staff was really sweet! They greeted me with such a warm welcome :) Would return!

Suman A.

Yelp
Loved this place! A little hidden gem in Harvard Square. This place is quick and tasty. We got the phill sub and a slice of pizza. Loved the vibes in here and service was great!

Hillary F.

Yelp
Got the Sicilian Cheese Pizza & Sicilian Buffalo Chicken, the cheese pizza was good it had a nice crisp crunch (ask for it well done). The Buffalo Chicken on the other hand wasn't good, it was chewy and cold even after getting it "well done", also only had about three strands of over cooked chicken , just wasn't good at all.

Jenni F.

Yelp
Pizza is amazing!! Fresh ingredients and fast delivery. Both regular and square are delicious

Jaci S.

Yelp
It came out fast but I wish it never had. I got a Greek salad that had no olives or pepperoncinis. The belle peppers were full sized slices. I had a bite of my friends pizza and it was dry and didn't taste good. It reminded me of pizza from a school cafeteria but worse. We almost went to a ramen place down the street and now I have to live with this regret

Kristen G.

Yelp
Great steak and cheese. Love the square cheese slices too. It's a small counter type place but there a few tables to grab if you are lucky. Quick and delicious.

Erika M.

Yelp
Not quite a 4, more 3.5. The pizza fresh out of the oven was great. We ordered sausage and none was ready so we waited and it was worth the wait. I recommend you order whatever the freshest option is for a solid 4 slice. The other slices were served immediately and were just good. My Italian sub was made to order and had great bread but needed more italian seasonings. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is very small 6 small tables. Recommend carryout if you have a large group.
