The Best Lunch Restaurants in Boston, According to Eater Editors | Eater Boston

"Fill up on traditional Filipino plates at this cozy restaurant in the Financial District. An all-day breakfast menu serves dishes like longganisa (sweet Filipino pork sausage) with garlic fried rice and a fried egg. For a heartier lunch, try the chicken adobo, often characterized as the unofficial national dish of the Philippines. If you’re looking for a midday snack, consider a purple yam and mango smoothie or calamansi citrus juice with brown sugar syrup." - Erika Adams

I finally made it to this Pinoy restaurant. I do urban sketching and had sketched their food before. So glad I am able to visit for real. They served pre-cooked dishes with rice (white rice and garlic rice). They also have desserts and drinks. My Filipina friends told me to get pork sisig and Halo Halo. They didn’t have pork sisig so I had to settle with the beef stew dish. The owner made me the Halo Halo because he didn’t want to disappoint me. It was the most delicious and fun drink! I bought an Adobo chicken to go for dinner. There is a story about this. A year ago, another Filipina friend made Adobe Chicken to work to treat us. I don’t think she made it correctly because it was soy sauce marinated fried chicken. I need to know what the rest thing tastes like. This time I will find out. It is a small restaurant with limited seating. But it has good vibe and people are very friendly. I will come back when they serve sisig again.

Flavorful Filipino dishes. I’ve been craving pancit, and I fulfilled my craving here. I got a pork combo with broccoli and pancit. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like you can just get pancit without any meat, so I ended up getting longanisa. The pancit was oily but in a good way. The noodles were firm. The longanisa was sweet and filling. I wish there was more broccoli, though. There were also these free ube crinkle cookies, but they were dry as hell. It had nice ube flavor, though.

Authentic Filipino food, like being back home with your mom. The staff is very kind and give off family vibes. Uncles, aunties, cousins and good food. We had tocilog, tapsilog, adobo, pancit, lumpia, and calamansi juice. We also bought diniguan and lechon paksiw, prepackaged in their fridges, to take home. The inside was decorated with parols and Filipino art, some of which we bought. Very affordable, especially given the location.

I heard about this place from TikTok and I cannot stress enough how good the food is. We got the chicken adobo and the pork adobo, the lumpiang gulag and I got an ube milkshake. Ube milkshake is VERY sweet but tastes like actual ube versus ube extract which is fantastic. The adobo chicken and pork was truly phenomenal, I had never tried it prior to this so I can’t compare it to other places but purely on the basis of being delicious, it was awesome. I’m still thinking about it now. The lumpia were also very good, freshly fried. For the price and the flavor I hope this place goes far

I had my first taste of Filipino cuisine at PINOYKABAYAN, and it was like stepping into a home kitchen rather than a restaurant! The place isn't too big, but it's warm and welcoming. The owners are genuinely nice people who not only took the time to explain how each dish was prepared but also shared little stories about the food that made the experience even more special. I tried a variety of dishes, and each tasted homemade—nothing pretentious, just good, comforting food. The sweet pork was definitely my favorite, with its rich, savory-sweet flavors that were both new and somehow familiar. If you're around Boston and looking to try something different, this cozy spot is definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re familiar with Filipino food or curious to explore, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve been part of the family. The personal touch from the owners makes it more than just a meal; it's a glimpse into the heart of Filipino dining culture.

You HAVE to try this new Filipino place in Boston! The food was delicious, clearly made with love 🥰 The owner was so so kind and did a wonderful job explaining how the food was made, I had a chicken entree with noodles. The meat was so tender it was incredible. I will definitely be returning! Masarap!! 😋😋😋

Authentic Filipino food with a homely touch. For a long time, Boston's culinary scene lacked a Filipino presence, so I was quite excited when I heard about the opening of Pinoy Kabayan. This was my first time trying authentic Filipino fare, and this place didn’t disappoint. The ambiance was reminiscent of a typical bowl place with counter service, yet it maintained a unique charm with most of its dishes being made-to-order. I opted for one of their hearty Filipino breakfast plates, which had traditional beef jerky paired with fragrant garlic fried rice. The beef jerky was essentially marinated lean beef, and its hearty combination with fried egg and vinegar sauce was enjoyable. Another surprise was their small but tempting selection of Filipino street food. The Kikam – a crispy fried fish ball – was an excellent side. Dining on styrofoam plates also contributed to a laid-back, almost food-truck-like dining experience. Being the sole customer at the time, I found the Filipino owners to be exceptionally warm and hospitable. Overall, an interesting addition to the Financial District's food scene. While it isn’t necessarily a high-end cuisine, it's certainly a spot worth visiting for anyone curious about authentic Filipino dishes.

Yelp
I was craving Filipino food and halo-halo so I went here. 2nd time going and at least this time I took pictures!! They have great homemade Filipino dishes like adobo, pansit, lumpia, sisig, tapa, tocino, etc. If you can't pick which one you like or you want to try them all, they are offering a bento box! I also tried their halo-halo and it was heaven! Last time I had this was a decade ago. I forgot how yummy it tastes! Just don't forget to mix it all together. Definitely an experience and will surely go back!! The lovely Filipino couple who owns the place are very friendly and nice (makes me miss my parents!). They are finally open on Saturdays too. A must try and they don't use msg and they use avocado oil if you are health conscious.

Yelp
Worst Filipino food I had in my life. I don't get all the great reviews. Did I go at the wrong day and time? Food was not tasty and was bland. Look how DRY the adobo they served me. What is with the nasty looking canned corn? How terrible that they would serve this food to their customers. Also, look how small the portion is. The lumpia was not included and I had to pay extra!

Yelp
This place serves up no frills Filipino home cooking, where the food is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. The food here tastes just like it came straight out of mom and lola's kitchen. The adobo, mechado, longganisa the garlic fried rice and pancit are all staples in a Filipino home. I'm a fan of their longganisa and they have Spamsilog, if you know, you know, this is the breakfast of champs! So for any Filipinos feeling home sick, come and get a taste of home here. The staff is friendly and the space is small, but it serves up some warm comforting food. Plus for all the people with a sweet tooth, YES they have Halo-halo.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and it was very quiet, they seemed like they were just setting up for the day. The food is prepped before hand and kept on warmers, so service is quick. We each ordered the 1 entree combination platter with adobo chicken, half garlic fried rice and half pancit noodles with some steamed broccoli. Adobo chicken was tender and very flavorful. I wish I just got regular white rice since it seemed like too many competing flavors with the garlic fried rice. Pancit was delicious, nothing felt greasy. I also got the 4 piece lumpia for $6 which I felt the portion size was very small. The lumpia are bite sized. Also tried the ube crinkle, idk how they managed to get it so chewy but it was a great dessert at the end. Overall a good experience, will probably just get take out next time. They have very limited seating inside. Street parking plentiful on weekends.

Yelp
Braved the holiday traffic heading to Boston for more than an hour and it was so worth it! My son immediately loved the delicious pork adobo. I ordered the tosilog and pork sinigang. My husband, who picked up our order, said that the owners, Rey and Janeth are very friendly. They even gave him great directions on how to get back to the freeway going back north which was really helpful! Went back there the second time and ordered more wonderful food. We're now definitely new "sukis" (regulars)!

Yelp
The service was nice and courteous. The food was not so good and honestly overpriced for the portion they give you. I also ordered their Buko Pandan drink and it tasted horrible. So imitation because they don't use the real pandan leaf instead I saw them use the pandan extract drop to make the drink. That is no good. I would not go back. The reason I went is because of the reviews, but sometimes it is hard to trust the reviews on yelp.

Yelp
The restaurant was quite small. There were about 20 seats. The owner was really nice and let me get half chicken adobo and beef tapa. The food was flavorful. The beef tapa was a bit too salty for my taste. I absolutely love the garlic rice!

Yelp
I stopped in Pinoy Kabayan last week looking for a quick snack. It's a nice casual Filipino restaurant with many different options! As a Filipino originally from California, it was nice to find a Filipino dining option in Boston. I got the 4 pieces of Lumpia which came with a dipping sauce and one of my favorite deserts, Halo-Halo. Everything was delicious and the staff was super friendly, I will definitely be back here for a full meal.

Yelp
My friend and I had an incredible time at Pinoy Kabayan this evening. The food was packed with flavor and they made fresh garlic rice and limpiang for us. Not only was the food delicious, but the people running it so friendly and welcoming! We got to know the owners, Janeth and Ray--they're the best. Janeth offered to make the fresh rice and even gave us a delicious fresh cookie on our way out! If you're looking for good Filipino food, or just good food, come check this place out! There is a small seating area inside (plus beautiful artwork on the walls) but service is also quick so you could easily get food to go.

Yelp
Wanted to write up a good review for this place! Came here during my trip with some friends to grab some food to go. We unintentionally arrived near closing time (we are sorry), but they were still so kind and welcoming to us. Their service and food was amazing. Our order of lumpia was freshly made and our meals came with some extra broccoli Maraming salamat po!

Blain S.

Yelp
Amazing food!! The service is great, friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back for more!! They are also very helpful with food allergies. Posted a sign and answered all my questions. The food is so good!!

Yelp
I'm so glad we finally have a great Filipino restaurant in Boston! Delicious food and the sweetest owners!! Janeth & Rey helped my company's Asian employee group celebrate our first Filipino American History Month with lumpia, adobo, mechado, tocino, Filipino style barbecue chicken, garlic fried rice, pancit guisado, & coconut macaroons. Our group devoured EVERYTHING. We are so thankful for Janeth & Ray coming in early to cook for us with short notice! I can't wait to come back for halo halo and more lumpia!

Algo L.

Yelp
Such a gem to find this in Boston. They also do catering! Very friendly owners and yummy food! I love me some Kikiam and Fishballs! I was only able to try a couple dishes. Need to try them all!

Yelp
This new Filipino eatery is quite good. The service is very friendly and efficient--the staff gave my group very helpful suggestions and explanations. The decor is basic and clean. The food is solid, and different than everything else available in the immediate area.

Yelp
LOVE everything we had! The Tocino was perfectly flavored, the kare-kare was very savory, and the garlic rice was perfect! Stop in for the perfect halo-halo!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick dinner before class last night - was thoroughly impressed! Great food, reasonable prices, owner was super friendly. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Pinoy Kabayan is the first Filipino restaurant in Boston. Ever. Filipino soul food in the heart of downtown Boston! I enjoyed the Filipino music while I dined and the colorful Filipino artwork on the walls. The freshly prepared entrees were pretty tasty. Additionally, the service was friendly and attentive. There were also Asian condiments available if you prefer added seasonings to your food. You can order in Tagalog or Ilocano, something you can't do anywhere else in the city. I appreciate having a mom and pop Filipino Restaurant for us to go to when we are craving real Filipino food. It's a taste of the Philippines right here in Boston.

Yelp
Delicious food. Very friendly service. Casual, friendly environment. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Chicken Adobo tastes just like my Lola's and the Halo Halo was so good!!
