The 18 Best Cambridge Restaurants | Eater London

"If a blackboard of 20 beers, arranged by style and provenance, does not inspire excitement, then okay, this place is not for you. But there’s much more to recommend this modern British restaurant armed with heavy-set tables in a Grade II-listed building than its beer matrix. It’s just as winning to get a pint of bitter and a classic Scotch egg as it is a hazy IPA and a bowl of nuts spiced with aleppo pepper, black sesame seeds, and agave syrup. The steaks, burgers, and chips are all top quality, the latter rustling restlessly from the fryer, and the generous Moroccan flatbreads are genuinely excellent. Great for a hearty lunch or a slap-up dinner." - James Hansen

Decent scotch egg. Sunday roast’s meat is alright but everything else on the plate is nice. The famous scotch egg did not disappoint— one of the best I’ve had. Mixed to a more chewy texture but not tough. Prominent sage and other herbs’ flavor. Slightly fatty so half per person is perfect :3 The sweet-tart apple sauce is very refreshing and delightful, though I sometimes forgot to dip in it because of the nicely seasoned egg itself. Roast beef seems overcooked. Only a hint of pinkness. Slightly tough but still tolerable. The beef flavor is good. Yorkshire pudding is fluffy and not greasy at all, though I hope it can be a little more eggy. Veggies are nice— especially the parsnip is cooked to perfect. The gravy is subtle and not overpowering. Fried calamari and prawn is not too heavy and the chili mayo is also lovely even fr a non-mayo person. I don’t drink but really appreciate the beer board with all the information :> The staff is friendly and the place is more spacious than I imagined. I really appreciate the young lady for adjusting our bill to the Sunday 2-course.

Google
The Sunday Roast I had was smaller than expected. It was a bit on the salty side, and I didn’t particularly enjoy the sauce. Others at the table had the halloumi fries and said they tasted quite good. Our waiter was very friendly, but we had to wait quite a while for our food, especially the desserts, which we ordered after the mains. The toilet is located on the top floor, which could be an accessibility issue for some visitors.

Google
Fantastic city center pub! The chef was incredibly kind and went out of their way to adjust my meal to suit my preferences, which is rare these days. The food was delicious, and the beer selection was excellent. Our server, a lovely New Zealander, was amazing—so attentive, with a fun and vibrant energy that made our experience even better. She was incredibly helpful, and honestly, she deserves a raise! I highly recommend The Pint Shop—definitely worth a visit!"

Google
Worst Sunday Roast Ever!!!!! Worst Sunday roast I've ever had. I don't normally put reviews, but honesty, this place doesn't deserve one start. My boyfriend and I ordered the Sunday roast (pork belly and beef). Both our plates were drowned in a greasy, overly salted gravy. Burnt potatoes and overcooked pork belly. The service was not better than the food. Having the waitress leaving the card reader machine to insert our cards on the table and telling us to do it ourselves. I have never seen this before!! I'm not sure whether we look to touristy for the place or if the service is always like this. I have ended up with food poison in the station on our way back to London. I'm glad there were open public toilets opened Make yourself a favour and avoid this place.

Google
Lovely modern decor, friendly staff, impressive selection of ales and lagers. The hummus with chilli oil and crispy chickpeas with flatbread was incredible and the fried prawns and calamari were a very generous portion.

This doesn't look much from the outside but it's an absolute gem... incredibly excellent food, we had a private room upstairs for a friend's birthday and the young lady who served us was superb. Highly recommend the Indian chicken pie.

Google
Modern Pub Working hard to write reviews for the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this restaurant. The restaurant is much bigger than I expected. The modern style attracts a lot of young customers. The portion sizes are quite small in terms of the prices. It's not the cheapest pub in the town centre. The food had slightly higher quality than Bath House, Eagle and Baron of Beef. But more expensive than them. But it looks very modern and clean, with big toilets. The service was good. As a reminder, this pub didn't provide chicken Sunday Roast on the day I visited. I suggest you check the menu in case you really want to have chicken Sunday Roast.

A warren of rooms makes up the pint shop as you meander past the bar area to the dining room. It was a gorgeous summer day outside, which made the inside hot and a little humid from the flavors wafting in from the kitchen. They have an eclectic array of beers on the wall and an extremely interesting list of gins on the menu. I gave them a 4 for the drink list and a 3 on the food. The menu is from all over. Grilled meats. Korean wings. Indian pie... it truly is a cornucopia of whatever the chef felt like cooking.... The scotch egg was excellent, not so much the Korean wings. My dining partner had the salmon, which was average, and I had the lamb leg, which was tough. Go for the drinks, but eat someplace else.

Yelp
Fun stop and quiet outside hangout. (AIE) This place was packed, inside. My friends and I enjoyed 4 rounds of whisky, beer, cider and house specialty drinks in the alley / designated smoking area. Inside on a Friday night, there wasn't a seat available. We braved the cold and drizzle for 2 hours. When the place started clearing out, we sat in a hall with stools and a counter. Seating area around the bar is all low top tables. Loud but worth the atmosphere. Great energy. 3 different bartenders helped us. All professional, patient and kind. Noticed the 2nd floor was for dinning. And if you need to work off food or drink, the restrooms are on the third floor. Clean, well stocked and charming decor. Memorable visit for a one night stay in Cambridge. (American in England)

Yelp
Brilliant Pub! Excellent ever evolving beer selection including delicious Black IPAs. The Sausge Rolls and Scotch Eggs are in my opinion "Best in Britian" I have eaten at the Pint Shop dozens of times.

Yelp
Great fish and chips and a great variety of beers. Great place for a drink or dinner!!! The service was great and they also have a garden on the back. Great place!

Yelp
We were guests for a fabulous rehearsal dinner hosted at the Pint Shop! All the courses were delicious, plated beautifully and the staff was attentive to my allergies. The juice rocket was a great hazy on draft! Charming ambiance! The scotch egg and pork belly were exceptional!

Yelp
It was fine. It was just early in the day and there weren't a lot of people there. The food was good and our service was also good. Give it a try.

Yelp
I had great recommendations from the bartender for a delicious citrusy IPA and their Sunday beef special. They were both exceptional!

Yelp
Best craft beer selection in Cambridge and probably the entire region. Got a nice second floor table with great service. Food was an cool take on classic dishes.

Yelp
MEAT. BREAD. BEER. That's the business tag line on the windows and menu. Based on the idea of original English beer houses, The Pint Shop has become a popular pub to enjoy a variety of cask and keg ales in the centre of Cambridge. I've been here a couple of times. When we came for dinner, the bar area was packed and loud. Once seated, though, the ambiance in the dining room gave us a chance to hear ourselves talk. BREAD To start, we had their selection of Bread, Sea Salt Crackers, and Cider Butter. A nice beginning bite. MEAT We also tried the Moons Green Beer Sticks (a jerky-like bar snack). Our mains were the Pint Shop Cheeseburger and Beer Brined Curry Chicken with chips. Both were good, and my plate portion seemed to be a whole chicken! BEER Though the name suggests their main selection of drinks involves British craft beer and cider, they actually distill their own gin and have a full bar available stocked with wine and whiskey. I've tried the house cocktails Sloe & Ginger (Sloe Gin, Lemon Juice, Ginger Ale) and the Dark & Stormy (El Ron Prohibido, Ginger Beer, Lime)--the former was smooth, the latter strong. ETC. Service was fine on both occasions. My only issue with Pint Shop is that when I came in for an afternoon snack in the less busy bar, the soft-boiled Scotch Egg I'd read about was severely salty; barely edible. I do hope that was just a bad batch that day, because this is a place I hope to return to!

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch and a drink on a Thursday afternoon, which turned out to be a great idea. Not crowded, just a couple of other people in. The bar tender greeted us, immediately ready to provide suggestions and tastes from their extensive beer list (compared to the vast majority of other UK and Cambridge pubs). Ordered a scotch egg and a burger. The scotch egg was quite tasty, perfect after you might have had a pint too many and need to soak it up a bit. The burgers came out rather quickly, and were extremely good. Be warned, when they say medium rare, they mean the rare side of it. It's fine with me, but I like beef to moo at me when I take a bite. It was hands down one of the best burgers I have had the pleasure of eating in a LONG time. If you're looking for a solid beer selection a d good pub grub check out the Pint Shop. Really the only drawback is that it is a bit expensive (but it is Cambridge after all), and they don't serve a full menu in the bar area.

Yelp
came with my husband for dinner, but i saw many people came just for drink. Scotch egg and pork is good

Yelp
Came here with my son for lunch (reserved in advance, a good thing), and it was really good. Ironically, neither of us had a beer (but what a selection!). The menus was inventive, and tourist-priced. My son had the burger (excellent), and i had the fried chicken w/aioli & shrimp pasty (both excellent). Service was friendly & efficient. The only negative (& really stretching here..) was the double espresso: it was too strong for me, & I think diesel is too weak... Very good. You should all go.

Yelp
Stopped into the Pint Shop twice for drinks whilst visiting my brother in Cambridge in late November 2016. Upon entering this is a small bar area up front with several small tables. While seating is limited, especially on the weekend, we were able to snag a small table without issue. There is also a very nice outdoor seating area in the back of the establishment which would be great in the warmer months Staff is super friendly. Beers ranged from £3.8-£6, with roughly ten draft and six cask beers. With a beer list consisting of cider, sours, ipas, browns, to pilsners, there is definitely something for everyone. For the non beer drinker, there was an extensive gin list and I believe other spirits as well. In terms of food, the main pub has a small selection of sandwiches and pub fare. They also have scotch eggs that looked great. While we never did have one of the delicious looking scotch eggs, we did order a cheeseburger one of the nights which was fantastic. Restaurant had a more extensive menu which also looked very appetizing. Overall - great spot for unique british craft beers and an extensive offering of gin. Highly recommend the Pint Shop.

Yelp
If I came here for just beer alone it would be five stars! But since I came her also for the food I had to knock it down one star. Let's start with the amazing beer selection they have! They have a whole chalkboard with many local beer and what they pair perfect with food wise! So it's super easy to pick a beer based off the type of flavors you like. The food itself was also very good too. I came here and ordered a burger and some "dirty chips" which were fries with parm cheese in them. The burger wasn't cooked to how I'd asked but it was still yummy. My friend had the grilled aubergine which looked so much better than the burger! May have to get the next time. The service here was pretty slow as we were only able to order one beer by the time our dinner was almost over. But the beer selection here is amazing so will def come back to grab many pints

Yelp
Pint Shop looks like an average place to grab a drink or bite to eat. It's very minimalist but open with two levels of indoor and outdoor seating. They boast a small range of craft beer and good GnTs. We ordered hot wings to start which were more on the sweet chilli side than anything that will make your eyes water. For the mains we got two sandwiches, a pork belly on sourdough and fried chicken on brioche. Both were tasty but I preferred the chicken with a somewhat spicy sauce, lettuce and pickles. Our sides were a yummy spinach with good flavour and a bland potatoes with truffle cheese. There was no truffle taste so I would skip it for fries which you can get with curry instead. The initial service was slow so they comped our drinks and made sure to check on us more often. It was a nice touch so I would recommend coming here as it's a large, clean bar with friendly staff which isn't always easy to find during the height of tourist season.

Yelp
I only came for drinks but it was amazing! They have so many gins available that it was almost overwhelming going through the menu. I ended up getting the gin of the day for my gin and tonic which was a Cambridge Distillery Japanese gin which was light and delicious. My friend got a different gin and tonic. The service was pretty fast for a Saturday night and we got our drinks quickly. The atmosphere itself is nice. We saw a mix of tourists and locals and even a couple who brought their own playing cards. They also had some bar food available including scotch eggs but I didn't order any. We ended up each getting a second drink and I got a different gin. I don't remember what I had for my second drink, but it was just as delicious and I feel I could have stayed there all night trying all of their different gins. Would definitely recommend trying this place. I just wish I could have tried the food too!

Yelp
I enjoyed at pie and a pint at this hip central-Cambridge gastropub. It was packed early-evening on a weekend, but most people were just having drinks.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our first visit to The Pint Shop. Being Valentines Day it was pretty busy but we were lucky and shown to a table in the back dining room. Theres a relaxed vibe with plenty of family groups coming and going. The waiters were top qualiry, friendly and attentive offering recommendations about the beer and even bringing us a refill because we were waiting a while for the pie. The beef and pickled walnut pie was delicious. Perfect gravy soaked pastry with crispy edges and pickled walnuts adding a little something extra. Fishfinger brioche was fine. Oh and the beer was great! Next time we're heading to the front bar and the bar snack menu....and we're already looking forward to it!

Yelp
Both food and stuff are nice. Love the lamp shoulder!! So delicious!! Thank you yelp!!

Yelp
The worst fish and chips you can have... worse than the ones in NYC. Two of us ordered greatest hits, fish and chips, and wings.. it was obviously too much for us but the waiter kept asking us if we want more... pic to follow

Yelp
If you are stopping in Cambridge for any amount of time be sure to swing in here for a pint! Excellent atmosphere, really good selection of beers, and very good pub food! The fish and chips were some of the best I've ever had, and the bartender was personable and friendly.

Yelp
Pints, pints, pints as far as the eye can see. What a gem of a bar. I love the chalkboard with all the different beers, where they're from, how strong they are, etc. Gives you lots of information. The staff were plenty friendly and the prices were reasonable for the location and the quality. Atmosphere-wise it is somewhere between a basic pub and hipster. It's pretty minimal furniture and it wasn't that easy to get a seat. But it's also antique and artisanal and hipster looking too. But you don't come there for the atmosphere. You come for the pints. And the pints are varied and ever-changing, and delicious.

Yelp
Oh the Pint Shop. A consistent favorite - I have been here consistently once or twice a month over the last 20 months. :D Try their roasts - fabulous pork belly and roast chicken. Their scotch egg is the best I've ever had. The seasonal greens are buttery and delicious - especially if you love kale! And then there are the puddings. Oh the puddings. They are a little (or large) slice of heaven. Fruit crumbles, cheesecakes, grilled bananas, ice creams.... The menu changes regularly, so don't be ashamed to go often!

Yelp
2.75 - 3 stars Visiting friends on a Friday night and since the Pint Shop came highly recommended by other yelp reviewers, we decided to pop in and grab a meal. Great selection of local beer for a pint, less than £6. Pricey, but a large variety conveniently under one roof. (-) Water cups : It's something minor and most of us are probably not bothered by this. But I noticed that the water cups were flipped upside down and the rim was placed directly onto the wooden tables. The problem is that the cups smelled of light bleach and wood. Also, the cups remained slightly humid inside because it was placed directly onto the table after wash. (+) Wild Garlic & Caerphilly Croquettes w/ Mustard Crème Fraîche £5.8 : A small serving for the price. The croquettes were hot, crunchy exterior, creamy bite and a nice savory start. (+/-) Flat Iron Steak 230g £15 : Ordered a medium - although more rare than a good medium. It was raining the day we arrived and we were looking for something hearty. We went for a side of chips / thick crispy skin-on fries - a steak frites. (-) Red Wine & Shallot or Tarragon & Green Peppercorn to accompany the steaks : The sauces had a light flavor and not as concentrated as I had hoped. It was runnier than I'm used to, but it was savory nonetheless. (-) Side : Baked Matchstick Potatoes & Cream & Lemon £4 - I'm conflicted by this dish. It's a roux? cream sauce with soft / soggy matchstick potatoes. It was overwhelming heavy and not a lot of chew / texture because of the thin matchstick potato pieces. I was tempted to drain the cream off of the potatoes, but I couldn't bear the thought of having more after the first bite. Sorry for being frank. (-/+) Overnight Pork Belly, Roast Spring Roots, Wild Garlic Sauce £14.5 : The pork rind was crispy and the texture of the pork belly was moist because of the wild garlic sauce. But the roasted root vegetables were overcooked and the portion was close to a small cup of roasted vegetables. Seeing that my personal preference on food is to have more vegetables than protein or 1:1 ratio of both, it would've been nice to have more (ie. roasted brussel sprouts, non-root veg included) on the plate.

Yelp
A nice, stripped back bar which is helping to breathe a new life into the Cambridge eating and drinking scene. Despite visiting on Bank Holiday Sunday - and hearing so much about the difficulty to get seats here! - we quickly found a table near the window; perfect for people spotting, especially when it's raining outside... The atmosphere is super laid back and there was a whole range of people coming and going throughout the afternoon. We only sat up front in the bar area, but I've hear some amazing things about the food, especially the scotch egg. We both enjoyed a pint of a Beavertown, served quickly and with a smile at the bar, and watched the world go by. I'm looking forward to coming back, sampling the food and spending a bit more time enjoying Pint Shop.

Yelp
This place is always super packed, so if there's more than one or two of you, I suggest making reservations. I got a spot inside, and it was very nice and clean. I came for lunch where they have a set menu with the option of one, two, or three courses ranging from 16 to 31 pounds, which is a bit pricey for the area.My drink, the Grey Herron cider, came very quickly. The waiter brought a glass with ice, which I wasn't into, so he quickly dumped the ice and returned. I got the deviled lamb shoulder kebab with flat bread and chili sauce. It tasted pretty ok to me. The sauce was creamy, which took away some of the warmth of the dish but didn't detract. The vegetables still has crunch to them, which is very important to me, and the meat was tender. The flavor was very Mediterranean with mint and dill leaves on top. The smell of the leaves was very nice, cutting through what would have otherwise been a savory dish, but the leaves weren't chopped up so I was unsure as to whether or not I should've eaten them. Overall, I liked it, but mixed with the cider, I had a bit of heartburn by the end of it. For dessert, I got the butterscotch chocolate pot with sesame brittle. It was delicious, but it was not worth 4 pounds. Overall, I liked it, but once is enough.

Yelp
I love the pint shop because of their beer and gin selections. You can't go wrong with either! The beers are constantly being changed out, but there is usually always a stout or porter on tap. That alone makes me happy. My husband enjoys their scotch eggs - he says they are the best in town, especially dipped in mustard.

Yelp
After a night out in Cambridge, we decided we should have some lunch before heading back to London. I asked my friend who lives there for a recommendation, and he said we should come to the Pint Shop. So I made a booking for lunch, and the three of us headed there to give it a try. It's a super hipstery gastropub. The beard to non-beard ratio among the employees is high. We were some of the first people to arrive (I guess 12:15 for a Sunday lunch is a bit early), but by the time we left around 2:00, the place was packed. Because I had to drive, I didn't have any beer, but my partner decided to order an interesting cask ginger beer from the menu that wasn't sweet, just a regular beer with a hint of ginger flavor to it. Very nice. I had the Cucumber Soda (awesome) and the ginger ice tea (a bit too sweet, but still nice). We also ordered some of the snacks while we were waiting for our friend to arrive, so we had some really delicious chili jerky and some beer sticks. Then we sat back and enjoyed the art. It was very nice, and we both found a piece we liked, but I couldn't convince my partner he needed it in the flat. Oh well! Food-wise, the menu reads like a dream. A lot of things on there that sounded amazing. I opted for the Sunday set menu and started with the potted crab on corn fritters and the roast beef. My partner got the bacon and egg croquettes and the roast beef. Our friend ordered the fried chili ribs and a burger. Starters were nice. I tried the croquette. They were probably the best starter. The potted crab was lacking a bit of oomph in all honesty. The fritters were nice, but the crab was kind of masked by the taste of the fritter. I think a potted shrimp would have worked much better to be honest. I didn't try the ribs, but both my friend and my partner said they preferred the croquettes. The mains came. The roast beef was one of the better roasts I've had at a restaurant, but my partner's was actually too rare in the middle so was slightly chewy. All the veg were good, and we also ordered some of the triple cooked spuds with truffle cheese sauce. I think my partner ate all the sauce but left most of the spuds. They were tasty though. I was quite full, but was still contemplating dessert. There was a chocolate stout pudding cake on the menu that was calling my name, but when I saw it on another table, I decided it sounded better than it looked. I just got some coffee, and my partner tried the red dessert wine (because we love the stuff). It was a malbec. And while sweet, it wasn't amazingly complex. But kudos to having a red dessert wine on the menu. My friend ordered the small cookie selection (florentine, pistachio cookies and blondies). They were all okay, but the florentine was a bit soft, the cookies were a bit stale and the blondies were a bit too sweet and dry. So while we had a good meal at Pint Shop, the food was a slight let-down. My partner commented that the menu read better than it actually was, and I think it's true. That being said, if we're in Cambridge again, we may actually give them another go. I think we may just have to be a bit more selective about what we order. (Plus go for dinner so I can drink too!)

Yelp
Excellent beer, good snacks, good food! Great ambiance although exceptionally busy during the weekends.

Yelp
Good beer selection. No public WiFi. Hard to hangout in the bar for a long time without WiFi particularly when you have to do some work.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Love the laid back gastropub vibe, with the simple white and wood details throughout. There is an option to sit at the bar area, which is pretty large, with a great amount of seating at benches all around and there is a more formal dining room. We sat at the bar :) The bar menu is perfection. It's small, but it has everything you'd ever want in a bar menu. Everything perfectly compliments the beer. The beer menu isn't huge, but they have 8-ish draft beers then 4 or 5 kask beers. All great selections. Now for the food - we had a hard time deciding, so we got almost everything :) Here's what we had: -Steak & ale pie: super yummy. the steak was so tender (almost like a short rib) and the gravy was perfectly seasoned. The flaky crust was also perfection. I was leery at first, because they took the pie out of a little refrigerated looking shelf on the bar counter. But don't worry! They are super fresh and amazing! -Chips & curry sauce: you guys - this curry sauce is #amazing! Why aren't chips always served with curry sauce?? And the crisps were excellent! -garlic toast with salted beef drippings - ok so this one came out, and I looked at my husband like, "what did we just buy, it looks like plain bread". But it was love after first bite. seriously - this was divine! I mean, total heart attack waiting to happen, but it's genius! So simple, but so perfect! -Salted beef frites: this was the star of the "meal". again, why don't all pubs serve this? the salted beef was perfectly seasoned and moist then they deep fry chunks of it and serve it with the most amazing dill mustard! ahh! i want more now! The only disappointing thing, was that they were out of Scotch eggs :( But everything else was perfect. Their bar menu also has some sandwiches and sausages rolls as well. When in Cambridge - go. And don't be afraid to try everything on the menu!

Yelp
Great food! Their Scotch eggs are an awesome starter! It can get crowded and busy, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. Service was quick and pleasant after being seated though. I will definitely be coming back

Yelp
This is some of the best food I have had in Cambridge. Both the food and the atmosphere is a beautiful and perfect mix between your high end pub and country side restaurant - and in the centre of Cambridge. They have a wide selection of special beers on draft and cask which changes throughout the evening (while we were there 3 ran out and were replaced). The food was the highlight. extremely simple and absolutely amazing. I had the lamb shoulder. which had been roasting on the spit for many hours - tender and the taste was fantastic. It came with fresh green peas and a butter based source (nothing else). My company had the trout. the fish whole; head, tail and all. perfectly cooked and very very tasty. The food like the room and atmosphere really combined the best of the pub experience with the quality and experimenting of a high end restaurant. only drawback (and this is minor) though the beers seem to be an important part of the experience (just look at the name) our waiter actually seemed close to clueless about the different ones - granted there was a lot but still. And also when we didnt order a side the waiter didnt inform us that there really wasnt much "starch"/salad/garnish included in the main. so we ended up having to order a side of fries when we saw the food. they were though delivered within 1-2 minutes and were incredibly crisp and perfect. I actually like the fact that you decide what type of side you want - but a heads up on the meals being basically only the "meat" and nothing else wouldnt have been bad Still, altogether this was a really good experience but do remember to order/ask about the sides for the meal

Yelp
No wonder it is 5 starts all the way. Thank you yelpers for the best culinary experience in Cambridge. Had the scotch egg even though it is not on the dinner menu, the Harissa and the grilled banana. It was just awesome!!! Had the pint house # 1 gin, made fall back in love with mixed drinks. The not so sweet and not bitter (from the gin) taste was just a great balance. Also the baby face assassin IPA was such a hit. If you're here in Cambridge, you should enjoy dining this place! Will be back in Sept, God willing :))

Yelp
Stopped in at the Pint shop for a pint before dinner. Lots of Beers from regions all over Great Brittan, Europe and even the US. Very modern looking. I had a Pale Ale from the Hackney Region (4.4) and my wife had a Red Ale from summerset (4.6). Very good and pints that were bigger than pints! There were dining rooms on the first and second floor. The food smelled amazing, although we didn't have dinner here. Next time Pint shop! We'll be back! Update: OK....The Pint Shop experience is complete. Had dinner there last night after not being able to get in to a couple places I tried close by. Arrived around 8:00pm and it was packed! Asked them If I could get a table for one and they got me in right away! The dining room was beautiful. It had the same modern features that the bar did, as I described it above. i immediately ordered a house gin and tonic and it was amazing. They are not shy with the gin, which is understandable as we are in the gin capital of the world after all. My entree was the ribeye in a whiskey raisin sauce butter sauce, which also had diced onions and tasted like a bit of cream. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. If you are American, this steak sauce is a taste that you do not know. With every bite, I was trying to figure out exactly what I was eating. It was very rich and creamy, but had a sweetness brought about by the raisins. But just go with it. It's one of those when in the UK things. We come all the way over here so that we can experience new ways of preparing the same proteins, right? Well, that's what this was. It was quite good. I would not run home to try and reproduce it, but I very much enjoyed my steak last night. I will also add that the chips (fries) they brought with the dish were exceptional. Thick cuts of skin on potatoes that spent just the right amount of time in the deep fryer and not a minute more. After dinner, my waitress brought over the "pudding" menu. "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!" (That's a Pink Floyd reference- you knew they were from Cambridge, right?) Well, I DID eat my meat, so I had to have some pudding. What is pudding in the UK, anyways? Well, I got the small chocolate cup, which came in a small sterling silver cup with a little cream on the top and a crunchy biscuit to go with it. It was not as thick of a consistency as fudge, but it was much thicker than the pudding we're used to in the US. It was SOOOOoooo good. You have to get it! I will close by saying that my server was amazing. Her name was Denisa and she took really good care of all of her customers. She worked very hard to make sure everyone had everything they needed, but was not around too much. It is customary to just round up to tip in the UK because your tip is built into the check but, I was inclined to tip a bit more. Thank you Denisa. All told, I got out of there for £33.90

Yelp
Had the prix fix lunch. Potted fish, bubble and squeak and quince crumble. All tasty, although the crumble was so bland I sort of wonder if the quince got left out. My gin and tonics were good (huge gin selection) and so was the service. I'd probably give them 3 stars, except the meal was a good deal, and all of my neighbor's food (not on the prix fix menu) smelled amazing. I feel like this could be a place I really loved, but I ordered stuff that turned out to be a smidge bland.

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant in Cambridge. There's an excellent selection of ales and the food is fantastic. Today we both had the braised beef ribs (they aren't ready till 1pm because the slow cook them for 8 hours!) served with red cabbage slaw. Last time we both had the pork belly and almost repeated as it was so good too. Pint shop is not a pub per-se, they have more of a gastro-pub approach but if you want a fantastic British pub lunch, this is the place. I put it above all others in Cambridge,

Yelp
This place was awesome! Food was amazing, server was super nice, beer selection was next level. I also loved the meat selection. Nothing but the best steak pork or chicken. Perfect place for a beer and a steak.

Yelp
Excellent pub food and beer. Have been on several occasions and makes such a change from bland, overpriced food in Cambridge's other pubs. Well worth stopping by if you like the hearty food on the menu. The acoustics aren't great when its busy, but apparently they're being improved.

Yelp
I love the pint shop. It's has a gin list! Also scotch eggs and sausage rolls for bar snacks. Also mulled gin! This place is amazing for eating if you have an allergy, they take it seriously and if you notify them in advance they are actually prepared, as in the server has takes to the chief and has a pre-highlighted menu for you to peruse. You really have to book, this place is so very hot with the locals. p.s I love the bathroom decor. To summarise; Service - Good! Food - Sooooo GOOODD!!! GIN - OMG YES!!!

Yelp
The Pint Shop is what I call a "new pub". Sure, those cozy little living room-type establishments that dot Britain are fun to visit, but they increasingly host generic taps and threadbare carpet. Pint Shop - as a new pub - is different. It has an open, bright floorplan, a reasonable amount of seating, and solid selection of craft beers. It's conveniently located. The barstaff are knowledgeable and friendly. The food is yummy as well. Solid.

Yelp
Utterly lovely from beginning to end. Friendly service, simple but elevated space, flawless gin & tonic menu. Potted crab and a steak with tarragon sauce felt haute-British, and was the perfect compliment to a night in the historic core.

Yelp
This place was very promising. Craft beer and great food. However I came in around 2:00pm, the restaurant refused to seat us. They refused to serve us the bar menu when we found a seat in the bar area. The host at the dining room was very rude about finding us seats, immediately said no, we can't seat you. Its very confusing when a restaurant refuses a customers money because they are fairly busy, (there were numerous tables open) It was a very strange experience. I wouldn't recommend coming here.

Yelp
Had an excellent craft beer here. Place was packed otherwise would have stayed longer. Decent little beer garden out the back.

Yelp
Great gastropub in the middle of Cambridge. Went there on a recommendation from a friend. Full selection of local keg/cask beer along with craft cocktails. Food is also surprisingly good (Scotch Egg is a must), high quality and reasonably priced. The service was personable and top notch. Has a quiet dining room along with an outdoor dining area as well.

Yelp
I wanted to have authentic craft beer and few friends took me to this place. Menu was overwhelming in a good way but I ended up having few different beers- they all were great! Best bar food too. If you're an American gal, you won't get billed for beer- seriously!

Yelp
Went for dinner on a quiet bank holiday evening. Not much of a drinker but there is a very wide selection. Menu is limited in that there were no vegetation entree options.....but that's not what they are known for. The food was exceptional. I had the beer braised chicken (if I'm being really picky I'd say it was slightly dry )with garlic and my son had pork belly. He said it was the best meal he's had on this trip. Would have given 5 stars but the service wasn't quite there. Our waitresses shift must have ended but we weren't informed. New staff didn't seem to care about us. Never checked in and we had a hard time getting her attention when we needed something.

Yelp
The meat is delicious! Servings are small and pricey, but taste great. The gin selection deserves a visit of its own!
