Amy’s Kitchen Is Shutting Down Its San Jose Factory, Eliminating About 300 Bay Area Jobs | Eater SF

"Facing what felt like the end of more than 20 years in business in March 2020, the Pint Sized Lounge was saved when it teamed up with its next-door neighbor for live, outdoor events—an effort that not only kept the bar afloat but also paid plenty of local musicians." - Paolo Bicchieri

This hole in the wall establishment has really been a good speciality beer location for 25 years. Equipped with a pool table and a state of the art music section. Adam, the founder and chief in charge will make sure you have a great time. This is a must go - to for sporting events. Wear the gear and expect to drink some awesome beer and/or wine!

First time coming here today. The bartender, Patrick, was super welcoming and kind. My girlfriend and I chatted it up with him. Made us feel right at home. Place was clean and relaxing on a hot day. Will need to come back. Not just for great beers and a rad bartender, but also for the live music. :)

Google
Not your average bar. In the best way possible. Awesome list of rotating beers. Very friendly staff. Pool table thats always busy but easy to get a game in. Awesome selection of Sake. This is the place to come to if you want a beer and good chat.

Google
I'm a beer nerd, and I love this place. They have a truly impressive range on draft, which always passes my "I've never had that before" test. The staff knows their beers, are down to Earth, and can help both the beer novice and uber geek find something great. The art work in the place is fantastic. Great spot.

Google
Cozy small bar with a deep romantic feel. One nice pool table and a very nice set up inside. To your left as you enter is a squeezed bar where friends exchange stories and to your right, a nice soft bench seat with several tables offering a great comfort. I highly recommend a night at Pint Size Lounge!

Google
amazing selection of hard to find beers

Does God exist? Yeah, God does exist. How do we know? Because an epic place like Pint Size Lounge is there for us we know that God exists and that he loves us!

Yelp
I cannot believe this sweet bar has been here almost 28 years and I, a lifelong Marin resident, never came across it. Wandered in as we parked to grab some Mex food on the next block and wound up staying to watch the World Series. Great selection of beers on tap, especially loved the District 10 Shadows of Prague Black Lager. What an unusually delicious beer with the best aftertaste. Sadly, the very friendly and informative bartender said the brewery has gone under and we were drinking the last keg of this beer. (Note to self, some back soon to drain this keg!) Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the cigarette smoke that seems to waft in as we were sitting at the bar. Yuck. Otherwise, what a fun experience. Check them out!

Yelp
As "San Rafael" as a place gets. This spot has been a gathering place literally for generations. The best rotating selection of beers in Marin, wine for everyone's taste, pool and music in an intimate place with fun art. Cool side note, when the juke box isn't playing, it's vinyl classics on a legit tube amp! Many memories, friends and good times have been made and had here. They even throw kick ass street party concerts during late summer and fall.

Yelp
perfect dive bar to hang out and they have a great wine, cocktails, and beers for everyone, personal favorite is all the phenomenal beers they're able to get from across the west coast--including Great Notion Brewing and Lagunitas, along with a bunch of local favorites here in the Bay area. Also, really cool pop art hung around the bar so this place is great even for a date and not just hanging with friends. I came here for a wedding after party and it was a great time!

Yelp
Fun place, cool atmosphere, definitely worth checking out. This is an odd place because you will miss it if you aren't really searching for it. I've driven by it so many times and never even knew it was there. The bartender was super cool and very accommodating . Pint Size Lounge is not a full bar which we didn't realize until we tried ordering cocktails. That was our mistake and does not reflect on the business establishment. My friends and I stopped by after work and ended up enjoying our drinks outside because it was pretty loud inside. This was a great choice because we could people watch and check out all the activity on 4th Street while carrying on conversations and enjoying our cocktails. If you are in the area and want to check out something different, I would recommend checking out Pint Size Lounge.

Yelp
Came here for an afterparty after my friend got married nearby. Beer and wine only. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday night when we arrived around 11, with a couple folks chilling around the pool table and one of the booths. There was still plenty of room for our group to relax. There's a parklet set up for outdoor seating as well. I didn't order anything as I was driving, but it looked like they had a good selection of beer and wine. This was a super chill spot for our group to unwind and chat after the wedding.

Yelp
Pint Size packs a punch. One of my favorite Bars in this area because of their Beer selection, loyalty to local artist, music and whatever you want to play in the jukebox. I ordered a pizza to be delivered here and shared it with just about everyone, it's that kinda vibe if that makes sense. A Vintage Vinyl sound system spins transforming the spot to wherever time and place of your choosing. Stop by, Celebrate or hangout. I think they got something real cool going on with their signature Texas Longhorn above the bar. whichever way you decide... one customer said that it's trying to "Steer" you in the right direction.

Yelp
I found the velvet blown paintings again! A true Marin original. When are the movie nights?! There are two projectors and screens.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience at Pint Size! Hailey, our bartender, was exceptional--she provided attentive, thoughtful service and made us feel truly welcome. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor elevated our visit. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
What a cool local place in San Rafael on 4th street. Came in for my birthday and Tim took great care of us. He told us about a few different local SF breweries; Adobe Creek, we tried their Berry Royale Double Fruit Tart Kettle, it was excellent with notes of cherry vanilla and lactose. Also tried the Humboldt Cherry cider, excellent and tart. Laughing Monk Sister Jacinda was also a great IPA. Super great place in town, knowledgeable + friendly team, and incredible brews. Will be back.. support local!!!

Yelp
No respect for customers Bartenders piece of shit Owner is rude Looks like they don't need money or customers I hope they gonna close soon They have just 4/5 customers looks like they cannot even handle this business
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
I love this hole in the wall! It's got a great selection of draft beers, the service is friendly and real. Decor is exactly what you're looking for...looks okay in the dim light and likely quite rough around the edges with the lights on. Perfection!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
They're pretty serious about beer in here. They have some good stuff on tap as well as a lot of fancy bottled beers. They stock a lot of labels you don't see often. Pool table. Good music on vinyl!
google avatar

Yelp
From dive bar to neighborhood bar to beer destination. The owner succeeded achieved his dream in transformation. The interior is still a little strange but the complete remodel changed its overall look and it's more inviting, yet some of the remnants exists as part of its old charm, that's part of The Eclectic nature of this place. The beer selection is unlike any you'll find anywhere else in the area. And it's constantly rotating and changing plus he has a beer bottle room with select bottles from all around the world. It's a Beer Drinkers delight. The beer well has up to 18 beers available on draft and the bottle beer is unsurpassed. If you like beer and a place that has a friendly environment that is welcoming to the neighborhood and stop up here. Nate my barman was cordial and knowledgeable. He, like myself finds the changes of beers a learning experiece.

Yelp
Perfect little dirty skateboarder lurker bar. Although it isn't dirty, just some of the locals are, but I like that. I used to come here frequently back in 2000 before I moved, but I'm back! Nothing has changed except for the owner has a grey hair and a few more creepy clown paintings. I was bummed to see the patio shut down, but hopefully they will work that out. Music is awesome and selected by the customers, bartenders are friendly, beer is cold and the wine glasses are BIG! I hope they bring back karaoke night. I'm overdue for turning myself into the town jackass. Congrats on the awesome turn out yesterday at Summer Fun Day. I think I was hanging around for 5 hours. I'm officially a lurker....again.

Yelp
Prices are not listed! Beers are more expensive than SF. So sad because I loved the vibe, music, and bartender. But $15.50 for 2 beers isn't ok :/ Please list your prices on the menu - $7.50 and $8.00 beers makes me want go to a different bar.

Yelp
Good, solid bar. Recently went for the first time and they were having a taproom takeover event from Firestone. Got to taste some really great Firestone beers. They've got a big selection of beer in general - lots of local ones too like Fieldworks, Fort Mason Brewery, Lagunitas, and Iron Works. It's divey in the best way possible, a pool table and juke box. Some really weird art on the walls, nothing like a terrifying, creepy velvet clown to brighten your day. But seriously, I ain't knocking that - they own it. The bartender that was there was really nice, she knew her beers well, friendly and was hustling. I gotta head back there again on a busier night, try some other drinks, etc. but glad I finally stopped in because I'll for sure be back.

Yelp
I found my new local bar. I love and miss cool dive bars with friendly bartenders and fun tunes. I'm so glad I found this location. It's just right, Cami is great. Cheers!

Yelp
DUMP! A tiny hole in the wall that doesn't serve hard alcohol. I walked by there on the way to yoga and always wondered why the place was empty, now Iknow why. Unfriendly staff and very small selection. Best to go down the street to any other bar than this place. How does it stay in buisness when it's always empty?
google avatar

Gary A.

Yelp
Really divey place with an AMAZING beer list. I went in because they had a weekend special for some of the Goose Island sours. If you are not a beer geek, those are some really hard to find beers and the fact that they had five on tap PLUS the Bourbon County stout was too much to resist -- so I made a special trip. The bar tender was very, very friendly and pleasant (and not hard on the eyes, if I may say so) and I was able to try a flight of all six for $26 -- not bad. They had the Giants game on the tube, which certainly was not a bad thing.

Liz W.

Yelp
Never set foot inside pre-covid but since then it's become a neighborhood mainstay with live music Thurs and Fri nights on a sweet streetside stage with a real bar and tables. Great rotating bar menu, fast service & sports on too. Food is not good but who goes for the food?
google avatar

Yelp
Pint Size is weird - for San Rafael. You get used to going to places like the Mayflower, Flatiron, or (God forbid) Nickel Rose. All "safe" bars, nicely appointed, with stuff going on. Then, I finally - having walked by it dozens of times - popped into the Pint Size to check it out, and was hooked. Marin has dive bars. Mattuccis, Trevor's to name a couple - but they're a different vibe. Always empty, with one or two sad drunks at the bar trying to drown their sorrows. But if you picked the Pint Size up and plopped it down anywhere in the City, be it the Haight or Trendyloin, it wouldn't be out of place at all. Dark and dingy, the pool table always in action, the jukebox belting out the tunes, and a surprisingly good beer selection. Cash only, no booze license - just beer and wine - and the place can be quiet. (More indicative of San Rafael nightlife than it it Pint Size, methinks). All in all, this is my new go-to spot.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the lesser well know drinking establishments on 4th st, the Pint Size serves up a rotating set of tap handles of great craft beer. Great place to chill and have a pint

Yelp
I'm creating this review based on one night-- but one that will forever change my perspective on San Rafael bars. After a crap pint at Mayflower-- my group walked down the street to Pint Size Lounge. Behind the curtained doorway was a small but no-nonsense bar with a single bartender with a couple regulars hanging out. Bar highlights: 1. Only beer and wine are available-- but that's all I'm looking for-- so to us, it was perfect. 2. There was indie hip hop and rock playing alongside fantastic, interesting wall art up that was complimentary to the place (the majority of the clown paintings are on a shelf above the other art). I loved every song Charlie(sp?) was playing on the jukebox. But it wasn't so loud that you couldn't talk with your friends though-- also nice. 3. Plenty of comfortable seating for any size group. Everyone was pleasant and cool-- with groups at the bar and side tables playing pool. 4. There was no one jockeying to be seen, or being a drunken fool. It was perfect for hanging out. It was EXACTLY the vibe I was going for. Charlie was a fantastic bartender-- sweet, accommodating, and knowledgeable. I'm definitely going back on her nights there :D This bar is a oasis in the Marin bar scene that this former SF resident can escape to. Fantastic!

Yelp
Pint sized it is not, and a surprising amount of fun it is (for a San Rafael bar that is). My friends and I were not quite ready to call off our Sunday B-day BBQ but had polished off the last of the chicken, quinoa and 2-buck Chuck and were in need of a good ol watering hole. Only problem? It's 9pm on a Sunday...in San Rafael...buh duh buuuum We head over to the Mayflower which for no stated reason, is closed. In come Pint Size with it's nondescript and nameless facade, overshadowed by it's neon sangria bar neighbors. Granted, when we first walked in we were the only customers, but as the night progressed, the bar was frequented by more Marin folks in need of a break from the rich life. The rest can only be described in poem form... The bar smelled a little like pee, but made it slightly more "dive bar-y" They had some good beers on tap, and friend even got a Brazilian birthday dance on her lap! The night was played away with a game of pool, to which was followed by foosball which is always cool! Oh little Pint Size, you might be responsible for my demise!
google avatar

Bonnie B.

Yelp
Exactly what Marin County needs! A hole in the wall, with GREAT beer, a pool table, and no-nonsense rock and roll scorching the speakers. Always an interesting, eclectic clientele, small batch brews, and free pool during certain times. You like weird clown art? They got it! Belly Up!

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite bar. I have lived in LA, SF, Miami and traveled all over the world. The atmosphere is perfect. If you want to party you can. If you want to lay low and do your thing and not be bothered you can do that too. I have been going to the Pint for fours now and have not found another bar to match. I agree with another Yelp review that this bar could be placed in the Mission and fit right in. The Pint could be put in NYC or LA as well and quickly become the "The Spot." Outstanding beer selection. If you think you can play pool, The Pint Size Lounge will be a humbling experience. Probably see you there tonight. P.S. I don't know what Scott D. and Shaun G. are talking about. The owner Adam is one of the nicest and most welcoming people I know. I bet these guys are pissed because Adam cleaned his pool table with their faces. Don't let these two illegitimate reviews detour you. The Pint is Legendary. Scott G. has four review - two of the establishments don't even exist, and he's claiming My Thai is the best Thai in Marin!!! Need I say more. I'm actually glad this guy won't be frequenting The Pint. You'll thank me for sharing this hidden gem...
google avatar

Yelp
A true and honest 3 rating... (even though I am a gin and tonic gal). I love this place. My son turned me on to this place a few years ago. Walk in the door and immediately you are faced with a dilemma... Some of the best "kitchie" religious articles I have ever seen and on the right a wall full of clowns. Mind blowing... which way to turn.. Regardless of the date, time, year you go to the Pint Size the only way you could have a bad time is if you are in a bad mood.. Nice people hang there....
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
The Pint Size Lounge is gallons of fun! My husband and I moved from SF to San Rafael in October, and haven't been too impressed with the bars in Marin. Pint Size Lounge won us over as soon as we walked in. The lighting is perfect, the art adds a really cool atmosphere, there is a fuzball table, a pool table, a patio and the juke box has an awesome range of music. We will definitely be back...
google avatar

Alissa D.

Yelp
-kickass bartender -cool art -big backyard -sweet jukebox -foosball, pool, and computer gambling = A+
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes! FINALLY! I bar that is so UNMarin! I don't feel weird for wearing leather, having tattoos, and wanting to listen to something other than Top 40 that isn't ho-dunk! Great beers, nice staff, and great vibe. I'll be back!
google avatar

Tracee E.

Yelp
Love this little secret hidden on the west end of San Rafael. The art alone can keep you entertained while sculling some pints of their small but solid collection of beers on draft. (The clown art work can be scary, so warning to all you coulrophobics!). They have a pool table and big screen TV to entertain you, or you can hide in one of the dark corners for some privacy. Either way, great entertainment is almost guaranteed and if not, you can commandeer the digital jukebox and watch people's reactions to your selections (hehehe).
google avatar

Maxine L.

Yelp
I am on a long term trip so I am not really following the weedays/weekends pattern so much. Yesterday I wanted to go out and it was Monday... Since I am not from around here, a friend suggested me that place and even if it was quiet, it was so much fun. I sat by myself at the bar and the bartender, Nathan, just made me feel super comfortable. It was actually the first time I went out on my own and I ended up setting another meeting at Pint Size Lounge with the people I met on Thursday! Can't wait!! The beer is delicious too!! And affordable! Loved it!!!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I love the Pint Size!! The beer selection is unique and changes periodically which I like. The decor and seating is very unique, it feels like an eyespy at times! I make sure to come here when Cassie is the bartender, she knows what I want without me telling her! (I swear I'm not predictable) There are several IPA's which is great too! I like how they have the projectors on both sides of the bar for important sport games! See you guys next time :)
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
Oh, Pint Size. It's almost always a bad idea when I end up here (my fault entirely), but you keep me coming back. This place has the cool. I've been coming here on and off for over a decade, and they consistently have some of the best beers on tap anywhere in Marin. The dark red interior and curtain at the door make it feel like you should need a password to get in, and you can make yourself comfortable at the bar or one of the high tables if you're there with friends, or you can sneak off into one of the dark nooks and corners if you (and maybe someone else) want not to be seen. The internet jukebox usually has something obscure but good on from the indie or hip hop world, or some gem of Americana from the past ironically played. Free pool Mondays, which is when I usually find myself there. The bartenders are helpful even if occasionally distracted, and the owner isn't hard to find or approach. The Pint also plays host to a number of special events such as DJ's, Burlesque shows and block parties. I really feel like it's at kind of a lull right now, as the back patio is temporarily closed thanks in part to some idiot neighbors who complained after they moved in and discovered that a bar makes noise at night (gosh who knew? The Pint Size has been there for well over a decade, and it was the Copa before that for no short time, maybe they should have done their homework before they moved in). The place tries hard to be part of the neighborhood, setting up street fairs and hosting local events. I really like the place and think it brings not only a cool drinking spot but positive character to the community.

Yelp
Great place. Clean. Down-to-earth people. A Westside gem. See you there.
google avatar

Cheyenne L.

Yelp
Beer and wine lounge with local color and fantastic rotating artist displays! This is my local "after work" bar - I love the atmosphere and the staff. The red felted pool table is unique and fun too!
google avatar

Adrienne B.

Yelp
This place is teeny, intimate, pint size...just like my review: Boddington's. On. Tap. [the end]
google avatar

Isaac O.

Yelp
I love that I can actually sit and talk to my friends here. It's just the right amount of "divey" and they have a good selection of beers. Some people don't like that it's only wine and beer, but personally I think that helps it not have the influx of belligerent drunks some of the other bars (that I also love for different reasons) have. Interesting art is always on the walls, it seems to change just when you're looking for something new. And there's a pool table. That's where you'll find me. Too bad the back yard isn't open anymore, but it's not the Pints fault, it's San Rafael being stuffy. That's why Adam can't get a liquor license, he's tried, but San Rafael doesn't want another liquor serving bar. Fine by me. I'll enjoy an IPA.
google avatar

Yelp
It is a dive bar, but has so much more potential! Whoever is running the tap lineup and bottle inventory is a shining star but this dive needs a revive. Let me explain - it is a dimly lit bar, and from the outside looks like you might need a tattoo or piercing to get in. However, don't be deceived! It is Marin after all... anybody is welcome. There is plastic and duct tape on the bar top (to kind of hold the padding in). There is some kind of sign/design made out of tinfoil in the entryway. There is no ventilation whatsoever - so it's always stuffy inside, even on moderate days. A lot of people there know each other. There is a pool table, which is easy to get on if you like to play, though you might be asked to rotate out or play the next guy. There is a juke box, which hardly anybody uses the bartender usually uses his/her Pandora station. There is also some sort of electronic gaming computer station right in front of the bar (get rid of that 90's shit yo!). There are always 3 TV's on right above the bar. The beer is the high point, and is the ONLY thing that keeps me coming back. There are great bottles on inventory and tap takeovers to keep me interested enough to go. However, I never stay long as my butt begins to stick to the vinyl seating and I start to get fed up with the dingy atmosphere. Maybe I'm old, but I begin to think about how much more comfortable I will be at home. Good thing the bar is in walking distance!
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
There's not a whole lot going on, the owner is meh, and they only have beer & wine. The outdoor patio used to be open and now isn't. The best part about this bar is the digital jukebox.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
The good - Friendly staff, lots of beer & sake, red velvet pool table, digital jukebox The bad - No hard liquor, no food, and no beer menu. I swear half the beers are IPAs I had a nice time, but left slightly disgruntled.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Good beer selection. 50cent sake shots. Jukebox and pool table. Friendly bartender. I'll check it again next time I'm in San Rafael. Good vibes from almost all the customers in the bar.
google avatar

Búrt F.

Yelp
Bar tender was friendly... enough. The bar offers a very unique and different atmosphere, with paintings of clowns and demons adorning the walls. Upon entering, my date and I were warmly greeted. Unfortunately, this is when things took a turn. When I tried to order a Manhattan and a cosmopolitan, I was informed that this bar did not serve hard alcohol. Maybe because I am from elsewhere, but this was startling. We left drinkless.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I love this bar. Its unfortunate there is not more places like this is San Rafael. There is only beer and wine, which is unfortunate, but the atmosphere and vibe make up for it. Good music, funky art, and a pool table. It would be nice if they could open up the patio again.
google avatar

Barry C.

Yelp
Got a recommendation for Pint Sized Lounge and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic beer selection - great tap list and bottle selection. Friendly service and generous tastes. Great place for beer lovers.
google avatar

Roger E.

Yelp
Best bar in marin. There. I said it. Good beer selection. I'm glad there is no hard booze there, makes out of control drunk people few and far between. The pool table felt is in good condition, they have a fooseball table, and it's always a cool crowd. More of the rocker/rockabilly crowd, the jukebox has EVERYTHING and the owner is really cool. Gabby H sounds like she's had some sort of deep seeded issue with clowns, but here is a hint... THE ART CHANGES ALL THE TIME....
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
Well I guess if I drink too much tasty beer and wine that night and do something stupid half nakedly sprawled across the pool table, that at least I'll be able to walk to Planned Parenthood across the street and get business taken care of bright and early in the a.m. The scene at Pint Size is pretty chill. The people are always nice, the beer is always good and cold, and when I drink, I do like a little pool here and there. Nothing wrong with playing when you're horrible as long as you can drink just enough to take the pain of embarrassment away.is Dark, with local artists mad skills posted on the walls, this intimate San Rafael bar is centrally located and my bartenders are always great. My boy Leo rocks, Katie is fabulous, and the owner, Adam, has always been super cool. Flash artwork sometimes flanking the walls courtesy of the fabulous Mr. Theo Mindell of Spider Murphy's tattoo makes me feel right at home. I love myself a little bit o' old school rockabilly greaser: the pomp, the duck's butt, the folded up jeans with the rag out of the back pocket. Brings back the old days to me, so familiar, and yes, I still rock my skinny black jeans, my high heels, and my red rag sometimes. The back is closed due to San Rafael gettin' a little pissed about the fact that when we drink we get a little loud, but that's always to be expected. The jukebox plays everything from rock to hip hop on the weekends. The bar brings rockers, rockabillys, and a couple of hip hop crews out to mix, and it's fly to see some diversity for once in Marin. I'm just thankful that unlike a lot of other places, when I ask for my beer, I don't have to trip over some douche bag suit or some yoga gear wearing yuppie who's been wondering why my hair is pink and my tats are bright. Ahhhh, nice to blend in sometimes I must say.
google avatar

Yelp
The worst bar experience I have ever had. My girlfriend goes to the bathroom after saying shes not feeling so well. The bartender furiously chases after her yelling " No, No, No....you're not f***ing puking in my bar. It's not my job to clean it up." When i calmly go to defend my girlfriend to resolve the situation I get verbally attacked by the bartender and some locals that are sitting at the bar. The situation quickly escalates, but could have been easily resolved. However, the bartender made no attempts to calm anyone down, instead she contributes by yelling at us even more. Not a good idea with a bunch of drunk males and no bouncer. While we attempt to leave the bar one of the locals came outside looking for a fight. COMPLETE MADNESS!!! Uncivilized, unprofessional, and unworthy of my time or my money. Never coming back again.

Yelp
For some reason, this bar never hit the right chord with me. It's dark, dank, sells a crappy selection of beer, smells funny and has scary clown pictures on the wall. Unless you want to have reoccurring clown nightmares, there is no reason to spend that hard earned cash here when the Mayflower is right down the street. But then again....maybe YOU like clowns.....
