Saturday mornings bring growers, bakers, makers, and live music to Pioneer Park’s lawns. Frequently recommended by local guides and reinforced by recent attendee reviews, it’s a reliable downtown stop for seasonal produce and small Arizona brands.

Park is huge lots of families, sports activities very friendly very safe a waterpark when you’re hot so you can cool off plenty of soccer fields to catch up on your football basketball horseshoes and extracurricular activities The playground for the kids goes up so high it’s scary for adults completely accessible by anyone due to the amazing stairs and ramps leading up to the playground. This park is overall one of the best parks I’ve ever been to and checks all the boxes I recommend it to anyone tables grills lights, electricity anything else you need they have it and it’s very, very clean and friendly, if I didn’t say that already. And now they have added over 2 dozen monumental plaques diving into the history of the city of mesa and the amazing accomplishments that showcase everything from dobson ranch HOA to Roosevelt's putting a band on Japanese a Japanese Americans placing in internment camps main Street showcases a Very long intriguing historical view on post modern day before air conditioning became available mainstream.

Nice place to go enjoy the day, nice re done park, and water pad, drinking fountains, police bot in the field, bathrooms, tables an grills, enough shade, and space, train, and close to train, Mormon temple, stores, restaurants, Library, and of course Pete's.

Google
Super cool large unique playground suitable for all ages

Google
Though it's well maintained and they've clearly spent millions on upgrading it, the culture is still rough with unleashed unfix dogs, drug paraphernalia, and homeless occupying the same spaces as children. Totally still worth the visit but perhaps some vigilance would be advisable. The multilevel play ground is easily the tallest I've ever seen!

Google
Frequent organized events. Horse shoe pits, basketball courts, a Locomotive and many picnic tables.

Google
This park is massive. There are plenty of play areas and my 3 year old was able to play on almost all of the equipment independently. The splash pad is great and there is tons of seating areas.

Google
Fun place to stroll around or take the kids to the jungle gym and splash pad! Pokemon Go is also a huge thing for this park with stops and gyms everywhere, they also do a lot of fun things like food trucks and car shows! You can also usually find lovely people selling snacks such as Elotes, chips and candy from their food carts!

Google
What a spacious, fun filled place with activities for all types of enthusiasts. It was an amazing experience as from the street it didn't look so loaded with such things as softball and baseball fields, water spouts for kids to play in or to use a meditation moment. It also has an abundance of picnic areas. It was well landscaped with equipment in good condition and ample restroom places. The park is so big it was difficult to see from one end to the other with many wide sidewalk paths.

Yelp
Really big and cool park. Brought my son who is 1, he loved the splash pad and swings. Lots of structures to explore when he's older! Lots of covered areas with benches for events as well which was cool. It was busy but we still found parking pretty easily. Convenient location too since it's downtown Mesa area. Would for sure come back to explore more!
google avatar

Yelp
What a nice clean park that was being widely used. Men had gathered on a portion of the park to play horseshoes. Behind the horseshoe area I could see an old locomotive. The park is very green and kept up nicely. Lots of shady areas to picnic and park. Restrooms available too.

Yelp
Perfect park for all ages. Great for dogs, biking, skateboarding, playground, splash pad.. tons of grass, shade. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a nice park! We got to see the ducks they were so beautiful. The park has things for everyone, such a great time.
google avatar

Karis L.

Yelp
I'm not big on the area however, it's a wide-open park which is good as it makes it easy to transport from your car to your preferred area within the park. I went here to feed the unfortunate and it broke my heart to see that there were so many sleeping and hanging out here, especially in this heat! There's plenty of free parking! It's located close to lots of businesses all within walking distance. I would only go here to hand out water and food but that's just me and my preference. I have no other words but to tell everyone to be grateful for what you have.

Yelp
The playground for this park is pretty good, but also a bit wild. Again judging for my 3yr old and 5yr old... The 5yr old was able to get around to all part of the playground by herself. The 3yr old was not. She could get all the way up the tower except the ladder at the end of the beige ramp. Lol, so I had to crawl up there and get her. The nets in the middle of the green section were a little difficult to climb, kids and adults alike.
google avatar

Molly S.

Yelp
Great! Really fun for our eight year old. There's some very cool things she can climb up to and explore. Only complaint is that it's not fenced and that's only because my four-year-old loves to run away from everywhere lol. Really clean bathrooms all in all great time.
google avatar

Yelp
Haven't been in awhile, but last time it was very fun with the grandkids n the family! Great day!
google avatar

Yelp
This park was a mess and the people there were unkind to children. The worst Park experience I've ever had never again will I take my kids there.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Park, Homeless Problems, But Nice Park. The playground here is pretty great! +1 extra star: Huge and awesome slides with climbing to get your to. Fun for all ages. Cool swings and even a double swing my son loves! The splash pad is clean but could use a bit more going on, potential is there but just some spray up features and homeless wile bathing.... - 2 stars: The only issue is there are so many homeless people which means it feels like you need to be on guard watching over the whole area while the kids are playing. We have now moved far far away and will remember our times here fondly....

Yelp
Wonderful park! I grew up in Phoenix and we never had anything close to Pioneer Park as a kid. My family and I were in town for a wedding and my 5YO is all about the light rail so I did what any good dad would do. We took the 1hr + light rail from uptown to Main Street Mesa. Pro tip - not a fun ride with a mask on. Expect beard dent The park was clean, there was a large group of serious horseshoe players playing in the dedicated horseshoe courts (woah). The bathrooms were clean until a woman experiencing homelessness and mental illness decided to bath in there while smoking. The train was cool for a moment like all trains are that don't move. The splash pad was operational but had a partial fence around it. The playground though, OMG that was rad. I've only seen a few playgrounds this good around the country and I've been to several. It's amazing. Pro tip - kids should be 5YO or older for the playground. It's easy to get lost in there and it's freaken HUGE so much so that if you're chasing them around much you really need to watch your head. Felt very safe and yes there were a few people experiencing homelessness which for Phoenix it's a lot and knowing Phoenix people, that will freak them out. Having lived in Austin and spending extended time in San Francisco and LA I'd say Phoenix is ahead of the curve here. I don't expect most Phoenicians to understand that since most are void of empathy, entitled and ignorant. Otherwise, it's a good mix of people and a fun playground. As always, expect to melt come June-October

Yelp
It's a great fun park with tons to do but definitely not for younger kids. We had our 3 and 2 year old with us and it was very nerve wracking watching them closely using the equipment. There is signs posted stating it's more for 5 years and up kids with good coordination skills. Super fun though!
google avatar

Yulisa A.

Yelp
It's a great park. Perfect for older children. Definitely not toddler friendly but they do have an awesome splash pad.
google avatar

Yelp
We took our 6yr old grandson to Pioneer Park. Very nice park. Our grandson loved the treehouse structure, suspension bridge and the splash pad. The water was very cold that night, but we'll be going back.

Yelp
This is a pretty nice park located in downtown Mesa right of the Mesa street light rsil park and ride. We decided to check it out because they had the "Festival Forest" going on. They had a bunch of overpriced food trucks and a guitar player for entertainment. A quick trip around the area and we were ready to leave. The park is nice. It has a splash pad and a real nice playground for the kiddos. I may not go to the festival again, but I think the park rocks.
google avatar

Hillary T.

Yelp
So, the reason we came here was because there is a 'festival' every Saturday which includes food trucks, and a live band. It is from 5:30-9:30. We arrived a little bit before 5:30 and found a picnic table under a tree. There was a guy playing an electric guitar. The food trucks were just setting up. After we noticed the food trucks were open, so we decided to take a stroll around to see what each one offered. They had a free standing cookie stand offering a variety of fresh baked cookies, there was a waffle truck, BBQ truck, roasted corn, quesadilla truck, shaved ice, hot dog truck and kettle corn. I felt the trucks were way overpriced, but we did settle on some kettle corn for later. After we made the rounds we left as the music was kind of a bust as well. In all fairness it was just after 5:30 and maybe he was just warming up, but it was all instrumental no singing. Apparently, this happens every Saturday, so we may be back to try again, or maybe not. I can't really review the park itself because I didn't go past the food truck area, but it seemed large and nice.

Yelp
Awesome park with lots of old-growth trees... Just watch out for the unhoused or homeless
google avatar

Yelp
(My review is for the playground) I've been to dozens of parks in town and this has the best playground. My 2.5yr old loved every second of it. The slides are amazing. The slide with rollers is really cool also. Just so much for kids to do. This is not your average city park with a 6ft slide. The biggest slide must be 30ft tall or higher. Probably 10+ slides, many places to climb, and crawl. If you want an exhausted child this is a great place. We had a little scare because he slipped away, which is bound to happen at such a busy place. Fortunately he was just going up the big slide and he appeared at the bottom. Saw another parent have a near heart attack when the same thing happened. The obvious: this is in mesa. Downtown mesa. With that you get some colorful characters. There was a bilingual church concert going on while we were there today. Some of the patrons on the fringes of the park are homeless folks. They do not loiter around the playground area but do hang out in the park. I have not had any interaction with anyone there that would prevent me from going back.
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
Every park is five stars to me. Not this one. People without homes spend their day in the park. This might be the reason the park is empty on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We picked up lunch and Pioneer was the closest picnic table. Social service agencies were handing out food which was nice to see.
google avatar

Bach F.

Yelp
This is a beautifully redone park but it just doesn't seem to be kept up. It's huge surrounded by streets all around. It has an awesome big grass field and different events sometimes. The bathrooms are usually nasty and it appears unkept. Hopefully the city cleans it up and keeps it clean so it can stay a nice area for families in downtown Mesa.

Donna S.

Yelp
Took my 4 year old grandson today around 10 in the morning. Homeless people shooting up and passing out on slide steps. Big play area I was afraid there would be drug parifinalia or residue. I was very uncomfortable
google avatar

Ellis P.

Yelp
pretty good park, had a picnic here, but theres an extremely high police presence. the big slide could use a clean too.

Joey M.

Yelp
Super fun for the whole family! Some people that go to this park instantly fall in love!
google avatar

Veronica N.

Yelp
What a fun park! They have a southern Pacific train portion that you can go inside and check out its newly renovated, so it looks really nice with a fresh coat of paint. They have basketball courts, BBQ areas, water fountains, horseshoe area, bathrooms, jungle Gyms, lots of grassy areas and plenty of parking.
google avatar

Bekah S.

Yelp
The park itself is awesome! However we will be back to check it out more thoroughly when the crazy crowds die down. It was so crowded and busy today.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
This park was great! Plenty of fun! And it also offered something different than the usual park. Pros- Long slides. Creative structures! Great fun for kids older than 4! Clean restrooms! Well kept basketball park. Clean park. Great train! Cute splash pad. Tons of green space and trees. Clean Ramadas. Cons- Busy busy busy! (I nearly was run over by the older kids! No joke!). Not much fun or room for toddlers. If you have littles, please avoid this park on popular days and times! Awful parking space.
google avatar

Yelp
WOW ! What a great park, haven't been here in forever but what a great face lift on this one. The large playground structure has a little something for every age! My little one had a hay day ! It was sprinkling so we weren't able to fully take it all in so we're Going to make a day trip of it! They have an awesome water fall that projects pictures and lights up different colors, so neat ! The bathrooms were clean and well kept! The park was nice and is nothing like what I remembered from being here previously. This is a family must have day trip!!!
google avatar

Corey H.

Yelp
great improvements and there are so many different types of play areas for the kids, there is even a splash area just be a bit careful as there are still quite a few homeless people taking naps, loitering and asking for money at times

Claire W.

Yelp
The park structures itself were awesome, but for an early morning due to trying to beat the heat, I honestly did not feel safe. Loose the sketchy people, transients, drug paarifinallia and it would be ok. Won't be coming back here. In response to comment: I saw one cop car and they did not get out. Even with what looked like a drug deal as I got out the car. Also cars blocking the street. Maybe you should up the police presence and have cops walk the street. Still not going back.
google avatar

Kurtis H.

Yelp
We walk through this park once a day. My kid absolutely loves the water park area. It's beautiful at night when lit up, and most of the time the parks completely packed with families. Would highly recommend if your kid loves to run around and play, or just chill out and watch a water show.

Richard D.

Yelp
We came down to the valley and seen this park right next to our hotel and looked great to take our kids too in the morning with our breakfast. We have a 1, 2, and 3 yr old. As we walked up the place where the big locomotive is, I seen a guy trying to slap box his girls friend then as we walked over to the tables by the train I noticed people sitting at most of the tables and just thought they were there to enjoy the place as were thought we about to do. I quickly realized these guys were all high as hell or coming down. Some were standing around like zombies, in fact most of them were stuck in a zombie like state. I told my wife nope, not going to let my kids see this crap and left back to our hotel. This was 8:30 am, I can only imagine what the evening would be like. Stay away if you don't want to subject your kids to this sort of decay of society.
google avatar

Delylah K.

Yelp
I don't live in the area so it was my first time bringing my kids to the splash pad - great alternative to the hotel swimming pool. The park however looked like a swamp which I guess is normal for monsoon season.
google avatar

Aisha B.

Yelp
It's good park, my kids like coming here. But sometimes it gets really busy, overall good park to bring kids with different ages
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
Awesome park for the kids. We went s day splash pad was closed but had a great time on the structure and slides.
google avatar

Tyler L.

Yelp
Paranoid Parents... if you have more than 2 young kiddos, don't come by yourself on a busy day. Team up with a group of moms & dads. This place is amazing for elementary to junior high, but for your high energy little ones be sure you *CREATE A GAME PLAN. Talk about "stranger danger" and make your kiddos smart to the plan so that you don't have a 1 Star experience. Beautiful park!!!! We loved it
google avatar

Whitney C.

Yelp
This playground is amazing BUT I went alone with my three littles and I was scared to leave my stroller and diaper bag to go push them on the swings because their are sketchy people EVERYWHERE. A lady drugged up under the covered picnic area and a man that approached me when I was walking to my car acting like he was going to try to steal my purse. Bummer that the city doesn't handle this problem. We won't be visiting again.
google avatar

Celeste S.

Yelp
Big park with a splash pad. They occasionally have movies and food trucks. Google says it's a dog park which is a lie. It's a park where you can take your dog, but does not have an enclosed area for dogs to roam around.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
Took my toddlers here for the splash pad around 10 am on a Monday and while it's a very beautiful and updated park I didn't feel safe there with my kids. There were homeless people bathing in the splash pad and washing their clothes and there were people at a picnic table literally snorting something 10 feet away from where I parked my car. I wish I saw what all these other good reviews were talking about.
google avatar

Britney G.

Yelp
Wow! Just visited the reopened Pioneer Park and it is amazing. I've never seen a play structure like this before. There is plenty of variety for kids of all ages and tons of seating for adults too. However the park was designed for grownups to play too, so don't sit too much
google avatar

Ann R.

Yelp
We drove right by it. When we went around the side it was much better. We couldn't convince our granddaughter to leave. We'll have to bring her back when we have more time.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Playground equipment was really fun and unique, kids loved it. But the area didn't feel safe. Two cop cars were in the park when we showed up and sketchy people kept walking through the playground area. We kept a super close eye on the kids and didn't stay very long.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Live in the neighborhood and hate that this beautiful park is mostly a Transient home. The water feature for children is a shower to the homeless and the picnic tables/lawn their beds. You know it's bad when you don't see the neighborhood children at the park. I would take my children else where. Also put a doggy bag station at the north side of the park, dog poop everywhere!
google avatar

Cherie S.

Yelp
We love this park. Super cool new play structures. Bathrooms. A very cool splash pad. Lots of grass lots of tables. A train to check out. Bike racks.
google avatar

Tiffany F.

Yelp
They just did a huge makeover of this park. It is amazing. The toys are so interactive and up to date. The ramadas and tables are new and look nice. The park just looks awesome and I would recommend people come to here to have picnics or parties. On the weekends food trucks are available to try out. How cool is that! The city of Mesa works hard to make sure the park stays clean and nice. Park Rangers are normally around checking things out.

Lindsey L.

Yelp
The park has great playground equipment. However, there is trash everywhere and a lot of drugs. I took my daughter to the restroom and there was blood on the seats and burnt tinfoil on the ground. We quickly left and will not go back.
google avatar

Phillip W.

Yelp
We recently moved into the neighborhood and we just love this newly renovated park. Every saturday night we bring the kids out here for the splash pad, playground, food trucks and entertainment. Good job Mesa.
google avatar

Sylvia V.

Yelp
Really nice park! Went to my neices b day party there .It had lots of thing's for the kids to do .Thy especially liked the splash pad area! Plenty of shade and very clean. We'll definitely be back !
google avatar

A Z.

Yelp
They have really made a lot of great changes to this park and my kids love it. Where parks are concerned this is one of the better ones and it gets foot traffic in which is always great for Mesa. The new slides and other rides are fantastic, even the bathrooms are nicer. We are gonna keep coming more often
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
Went on a date here and besides the date being bomb as fuck, I loved the park in general! I might be a little too old to go up that huge slide I still did! And enjoyed myself good job
