"Full credit goes to the folks who decided to restore this totally hip Western property. It's truly a gem and a slice of SoCal history. Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams make the cozy rooms, which are adorned with adorable Western elements such as cowhide rugs, Pendleton throw pillows, and Mexican blankets, seem more spacious. The proximity to the stellar music at Pappy & Harriets and the desertscape alone are worth it, but if that doesn't seal the deal, it's the quiet time amongst the landscape, and the epic sunsets, that will." - Maxwell Williams, Krista Simmons

"The Pioneertown Motel is the kind of accommodation that generates giddy excitement among even the most jaded of Tablet’s hotel aficionados. We’ve seen every form of lodging there is, and this amount of personality and provenance has no substitute." - Mitchell Friedman

"The Pioneertown Motel is stylish and comfortable, but stops short of Hollywood-style glamour or opulence. The rooms combine vintage charm with a contemporary design eye and some custom furniture. The Canteen is the all-day lounge, but it’s no restaurant — there’s a surprisingly good one within walking distance, though, as well as Pappy and Harriet’s, a Western-themed rock-and-roll bar and barbecue joint that hosts national acts and a famous open mic." - Mark Fedeli

"How did it strike you on arrival? It's a rustic Western motel originally built in the 1940s by Roy Rogers that's been done up with all the amenities a city slicker could want. What’s the crowd like? It's a ragtag bunch of Southwestern enthusiasts looking to cut loose and have a good time. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms.Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams make the cozy rooms, which are adorned with adorable Western elements such as cowhide rugs, Pendleton throw pillows, and Mexican blankets, seem more spacious. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Beds are comfy, but admittedly aren't as luscious as what you'd find at a five star resort. You'll be so tuckered out from hiking the nearby nature reserves though that you'll still sleep like a log. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? Will they allows us back if we swipe one of the Pendleton throw pillows? We sure hope so. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Though the bathrooms are pared back, they're still leaps and bounds better than a campout. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?No Wi-Fi, but you're in the desert to detach, right? Right? What do they have for food and drink? There's no room service, but there's complimentary coffee and pastries at the front desk, and of course plenty of great eats at Pappy & Harriet's next door. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Full credit goes to the folks who decided to restore this totally hip Western property. It's truly a gem and a slice of SoCal history. Anything stand out about other services and features?Look, there's no spa or gym, but what you're here for is the serenity of the desert, and you get a double dose of that. What was most memorable about your stay?Getting to feel like a real cowgirl without leaving the creature comforts of the city behind. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The proximity to the stellar music at Pappy & Harriets and the desertscape alone are worth it, but if that doesn't seal the deal, it's the quiet time amongst the landscape, and the epic sunsets, that will." - Krista Simmons

Welcoming and wonderful. A place of unique history and a comfy nights rest under a beautiful sky. Many thoughtful touches, and run by some lovely humans, that couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming to us.||||Some great spots to see nature at her most hardy. Delicious food and drink options around. We took the opportunity to watch some live music and spent the morning watching the beautiful birds with a coffee outside our front door.

Great place to stay. Authentic decor, really comfortable beds, great shower with good water pressure. Simple, clean rooms, no tvs, but spending time outside stargazing with nice chairs provided was priceless. So easy to catch a band at Pappy & Harriet’s and enjoy the awesome bbq within a very short walk. I will definitely return soon!

One of my favorite spots to stay - and this little town is probably one of my favorite spots in general due to the memories made there! It's a great experience every time. It's unbeatable to be able to walk back to the hotel room after a show at Pappy & Harriett's. Friendly staff, great vibe. Will keep coming back each time I see a show.

If you are considering a trip to Pioneertown, please let this be your home base during your stay! My partner and I visited for the first time this week and had an amazing experience. I don’t usually vacation to places in the middle of the mountains of the desert, so I felt a little uneasy about our safety during the planning of our trip. Upon arrival to the motel, my nerves were quickly calmed when we checked in with Renee. She was so sweet! She connected with us and gave us local recommendations. The room and premises were everything that we were looking for on our desert getaway. Very clean, cabin style, huge bed, wonderful views of the mountains and stars, lots of merch to check out, cute outdoor seating including hammocks for star gazing. It was within walking distance to all the Pioneertown attractions which was very convenient. It was also within easy driving distance to surrounding towns like Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley which all hold their own lists of things to do. The locals and staff working at the motel and other businesses in Pioneertown were so friendly and welcoming. I really recommend staying here if you can in order to get the full experience! We were bummed to leave after our 2-night stay and are already planning our next trip out there. Thank you, Pioneertown Motel, for your hospitality and showing us a wonderful time! - Daisy & Monica

Google
Great location and unique setting however the accommodation falls far short on the basics. The disregard for people staying seemed evident when the constant noise of machinery and activity started very very early. Also the rooms have walls that are so thin that the your hear every ablution, shower and tap run - the water system is so noisy it impacted our sleep loads. The coffee in the canteen was also either not on or cold which was a shame. Great location but would advise against staying in you’re a light sleeper or want some desert peacefulness.

Google
Gorgeous, comfortable, quiet room in a desert garden setting. Choppers parked outside the door in this iconic Old West facade that was the setting of so many Gene Autry, John Wayne, Roy Rogers films in the 40's, 50's, 60's. No television in the rooms is a huge positive, and inspires you to sit outside in the rock garden and lose yourself in the desert night sky.

Google
With Pioneertown Motel perfectly settled above both Yucca Valley & Joshua Tree it's an excellent point of relaxation! Pioneertown itself is a beautiful little area of the desert with great food, drink, live music options with The Red Dog & Pappy + Harriet's being a short walk from your room. If it's your first time in the area employees of P.M. are extremely helpful with suggestions (being locals themselves, they know all the hidden gems). If you spent the day on a long, hard fought hike throughout Joshua Tee they even have a local masseuse, The Pointed Pearl, on call to get you relaxed for the evening (I didn't get a chance to use them on this last trip but defiantly on the next!). Oh! Don't worry, each room has their own AC so if it's a little too much to handle outside you'll have a nook of escape!

Google
This is perfect for what it is- a totally modern and redone little motel in the desert. Front desk service was friendly, room was immaculate, charging ports by the bed, camp chair to sit outside, canteen with free coffee and water, and a 1 minute walk to Pappy and Harriet’s. I’d stay here again and look forward to it.

Yelp
Very friendly and accommodating staff! It is always a pleasure when the staff knows what they are trying to do with their establishment and they try to make everyone feel at home accordingly. Nice motel-style accommodations, amenities, parking, and experience. Free coffee in the common room and just a great side quest to coming to enjoy my favorite band in a weird venue out in nowhere. Worth it for me, Pioneertown was great in general.

Brenda A.

Yelp
So cool, so neat, so UNIQUE! We spontaneously stayed two nights here to escape the busy world of Orange County, and we loved it! Each room has a little name, and has seating outside each room to relax and watch the desert. The area is very quiet and calming. The rooms are breezy, and feel fresh. The cow hyde rug was a nice touch, and same with all the leather and interior designs. It really felt like we were in a different state and traveling back in time! YEHAW! Outside there are hammocks to enjoy (VERY CLEAN!), and games to play. We played horseshoe and it was so fun. You use REAL horseshoes -they are heavy!! Staff members were also very nice and accommodating. There is a "saloon" attached to the motel where you can grab complimentary coffee, tea, water, and hot chocolate. There is also onsite parking (dirt parking). We will definitely stay again for a weekend :)

Hugh B.

Yelp
What makes it great is the quiet......... with no pool, no TV it has different experience. very rustic !! I l was star gazing in one of the hammocks and dozed off it was epic !! played horseshoes, walked over to where many old westerns were filmed. staff were great and helpful. it was a great little getaway......

Yelp
I had been wanting to stay at Pioneertown Motel for several years. When our flight home for Christmas kept getting cancelled, my boyfriend and I decided to get away from Los Angeles for the night and I was ecstatic that we ultimately decided on booking a night at Pioneertown Motel - finally! We stayed for one night, checking in on Christmas Day (12/25/2022). I am literally obsessed with the check in area and boutique/gift shop as well as the common area with coffee and tea both of which were decorated for the holidays. Magical! We stayed in the Roy Rogers room complete with a spacious bedroom with a decent sized bed although smaller bathroom and shower. Speaking of bathroom, I loved the smell of the hand soap so much, I bought some to take home with me. Back to the bedroom, my boyfriend was shocked there wasn't a TV but personally, I did not mind one bit. The room, however, was pretty cold and not very cozy. It was cool to stay so close to Pappy and Harriet's and Pioneertown in general. We ventured out at night to look at the stars and went for a run in the morning before getting lunch at Pappy and Harriet's. Overall, I really enjoyed our stay - it sure was worth the wait!

Yelp
Pioneertown, Ca. Great place to stay if you are attending a concert next door at Pappy and Harriet's and don't want to partake in the long drive home at night after downing a few beers. It is an old place and still retains that feel, but it has been greatly improved. The concrete floors are a bit cold in the winter at night but the AC heat pump keeps the air temp at a reasonably comfortable temperature. Hot water is reliable and the bed is comfortable. Pillow selection is not great you may want to bring your own. Nice little walk to old Pioneertown to pass the time while you are hanging out before the show. Food available at Pappy and Harriet's or the Red Dog, if you wish to walk only. Prices are high, but you're paying for convenience. We have also rented ABandB in the area at similar pricing, but I like "Walking Home" from the show.

Yelp
Stayed in The Duke room for one night and it was a cool experience. The grounds seemed well maintained, and takes you back to the old western movie sets! The room could use some deep cleaning, and the plumbing in the bathroom around the toilet needs some attention. It smelled funky and there was water around the base of the toilet. The curtains did not lend to much privacy, so I had to change clothes in the tiny bathroom. The air conditioning wall unit was not good...you had to stand in front of it to feel it and feel comfortable, it was a hot day/night. I woke up sweating... no bueno. The bed was clean and comfortable though! The room itself was spacious for two people, and I did enjoy the decor. It's very convenient for walking to Pappy & Harriet's for a live music show - which is why we traveled here.

Yelp
Perfect. Paradise. Pioneertown. Pappy's. The motel is conveniently located a hop, skip, and jump away, from the iconic Pappy & Harriet's, and they've done a great job of providing the perfectly complimentary motel for the venue. Not necessarily a requirement to stay at the motel after seeing one of your favorite bands at Pappy's, although, not sure what the heck else you're doing out there, besides walking the 100 yard strip of old Western reenactment town! The motel is quaint with Pioneertown vibes all around, management is friendly and professional, rooms are kitschy and clean, parking is no problem, views are amazing, and there's seating and hammocks aplenty on either side of the motel strip for patrons to relax, stargaze, or just take in the views. A true gem and highly recommend a stay!

Yelp
I want to love this place even more because I've been obsessed with them on Instagram for a while! I happened to be in Palm Springs for a conference and took a road trip home through Joshua tree National park and booked a night here. Since I've always wanted to come here I sucked it up and spent $465 for one night, plus taxes and fees. I got there around 430, hung out in the room for an hour or two before I went to Pappy and Harriet's. I was in bed by 11, and the only 5 star experience are the sheets on the bed! The Comphy sheets were so soft and lush I'll buy them for home. The night went downhill when my neighbors showed up probably drunk and high from Coachella at 145 am and I could hear them talking through the walls and I was sleeping on the farthest wall from that room. Then the took a shower or flushed the toilet and holy crap it was so loud in my room. I was up with the neighbors until 330 am ugh. 830 the next morning they were back at it with the talking. I was so annoyed. I told the owners when I checked out and all they offered was an I'm sorry. There was no credit or sincerity. The room and motel in general is a $150-175 a night place and it's sad they price gauge based on Coachella and other events over an hour or more away. I won't be back and I don't recommend unless the room is less than $175 a night and you don't care about noisy neighbors

Deborah K.

Yelp
This motel is beautifully restored and has such a cool desert cowboy vibe. The beds were so comfy. Slept like a baby. Tom, the manager, is a cool guy.

Jen R.

Yelp
Fantastic location. Friendly and easy check in/out. Great vibe. Quiet and beautiful at night with a sky full of starts. Pretty 'buggy' but... it is the desert after all. Super comfy bed and nice bathroom. Really enjoyed our stay and recommend!

Emma M.

Yelp
This has to be one of the coolest motels that I've ever stayed at. Normally when I hear the word motel I get nervous and think that it's going to be one of those crazy 8 motels where I think I'm going to be murdered in my sleep, but I was impressed by how beautiful everything was and how friendly everyone was. The ol' western vibe really stuck out with the town next door. They have really nice rooms with comfortable beds, a gift shop, and a game room where guests can grab some coffee or hot chocolate in the morning. I only stayed here for one night, but I look forward to coming here again if given the chance. I loved every minute of my stay.

Pedro G.

Yelp
The good... rustic and pioneer, yup, 100% The bad... faucet loose and clunky, half of shower head completely blocked, various things needing fixing or tightening, a solid layer of dust or cobweb on everything else and dim enough to need night vision glasses. Cheap polyester sheets ensured clingy uncomfortable electric static light show, cotton is overrated (not really) The Ugly.. see picture,, It's pretty disgusting to be breathing everyone else's skin cells and DNA because you can't spend 30 seconds cleaning the AC unit. What a pos... great piece of equipment (not) that sounds like a freight train pulling a squeaky wheel barrow. The thing must be 10-15 years old and can be replaced with just one or two nights stay. And as a final thought... some nights i can't be bothered reading a book or finding my inner self.. and I just want a tv. denied.

Dylan B.

Yelp
This is a special place. Nestled in the warm heart of a special place. No TV. No drama. No need to do anything but soak in all the majesty of the desert. There are even two highly-regarded restaurants a short stroll from the property. Along with joshua trees, jackrabbits, roadrunners, bluejays, and amazing energy. The rooms are rustic yet modern. The bedding is soft and sublime. Love it! Bet you will, also.

Zoey R.

Yelp
I've stayed here two different times, May 2016 and May 2022. Both times to see my favorite band Mariachi El Bronx playing at the legendary Pappy and Harriet's which is another review of excellence! (To be completed..) The hotel is quaint and welcoming if you are not into concrete floors and dust look on further this is the real desert vibes! Super comfortable and clean rooms with basic needs met with a fridge and pioneertown decor. Horse shoes and outdoor fireplace. Amazing views! Backside of property shows the desert views. Front side of property shows backside view of Pappy and Harriets outdoor area. There's a cool walk down a small dirt road to the red dog saloon another great amazing spot! Also you can visit lil shops with art and collectibles with great picture spots! **Be sure check biz hours in this area - some hours and days limited!**

Cynthia J.

Yelp
Loved our stay here at the cozy quaint motel which was right next to Pappy and Harriets to watch one of our favorite bands for 2 nights. We stayed in cabin 13 which was on the back side overlooking the desert and all the amazing stars. The property was so quiet it actually felt like we were the only ones there. The room was very cute and the bed and bedding was so comfy. The motel also had a free EV charger which was a nice little bonus. The staff was all so nice and accommodating especially Thomas who went above and beyond to make our stay even better. We will definitely go back :)

Channing W.

Yelp
Worse customer service I have dealt with in my 20+ years of traveling. Canceled my reservation without my consent and tried to charge me again for the same room I had already paid for. A real stain on what is otherwise a really cool town. Just AirB&B.

James N.

Yelp
Do I recommend Pionnertown Motel? You bet we do. Unique. Authentic. Quaint. Comfortable. What a great way to get away from the big city for a weekend. Just steps from dinner and drinks at Pappy and Harriet's or the Red Saloon (excellent tacos!). And the scenery will take your breath away!!

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Cute stay for JTNP! It is one of the closest ones to the park entrance. They have around a dozen or two rooms. It is walking distance to a restaurant and they have lounge areas where it is so peaceful! The floor gets a bit dirty as you're dragging in dirt every time you come in but room is great!

Victoria B.

Yelp
My go to spot always. I just stayed the night and I always come back feeling so stoked on this place. The motel is such a special desert gem and every detail of it is so intentional & beautiful. It is literally steps away from the iconic Pappy & Harriet's and all the western town shops, & also feels like it's own secluded oasis. There is a area in the back specifically designated for star gazing & everyone on staff is so kind. I'm a sucker for a good cup of coffee & they have an amazing complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa room that's open all day to sit and enjoy and play games or get some work done. Oh also I have to mention it's pup friendly which is always a bonus. :) definitely recommend and will continue to go back.

Nate M.

Yelp
Someone poisoned the waterhole! Or I drank too much at Pappy and Harriet's. I'd been to Pioneertown a few times before, but just to eat lunch at PH's and walk around the main drag at Pioneertown before heading to Hicksville Trailer Palace, which I highly suggest you check out. So this was my first actually time staying the night and gettin' down with old west. This is a small motel with about 20 rooms, all outfitted with a western theme, nice bathrooms and literally the best bed I've ever slept on. No joke the mattress was awesome. The floors are concrete and the amenities are not the best, but your stay here should be a "one and done" type of visit. Try to stay on the Eastside of the hotel, this was you'll catch a nice breeze and be out of the sun for the better part of the day. Just be prepared to be covered in dust and hear coyotes running around at two in the morning. A very fun experience and I would most likely stay again.

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
Literally the weekend of my dreams. This place was wonderful! I loved that there was minimal interactions with other guests (you encounter more people visiting the grocery store) because of everything going on right now. Renee was such a sweetheart! She was the first person I saw and she set the tone for the whole stay at Pioneer Motel 10/10 for Renee and her hospitality. She got us ice, water, Acetaminophen for my boyfriends ankle, and had the nicest energy. I could go on and on. The actual place itself was aesthetically pleasing, very clean, and provided just the perfect amount of seclusion. We had take out from Pappy's and we brought it back to the motel. They had cute seating areas where we had dinner at. Check out was a breeze and the man that helped me out was also really nice. Approx. 10 minutes from the park & dwntwn area. Stay here! You won't regret it.

Bob M.

Yelp
They say: Pet Friendly? $50.00 "per night" is absolutely absurd! Do you think your in Beverly Hills??

Megan G.

Yelp
Our family spent a couple of days at the Pioneertown Motel and it was wonderful. Every morning my son would "help" the inn keeper feed the mocking birds and then we would either head out to Joshua Tree National Park or some other local point of interest. The room was nicely appointed, with books and board games but no TV. My five year old could not believe there was such a thing as a hotel room lacking a wall mounted TV. However he was soon distracted by the horseshoe pit, hammocks, and Pioneertown itself. At night the motel made available hot coco and the aforementioned hammocks for star gazing.

Farrah A.

Yelp
I would have never heard of this town, much less this infamous hotel, had it not been for my friend's wedding hosted right onsite. Pioneertown Motel is a 1940s motel - built by Roy Rogers - that housed western film stars of that time. It's been fully restored since 2014 with around 20 rustic designed rooms named after legendary western film stars; there's plenty of outdoor seating - stargazing is a MUST. The staff is incredibly welcoming. Complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Rooms do not have TVs and the wifi is spotty, but guess what, you'll survive. There is much exploring to do. A stone's throw away is restaurant/bar/music venue Pappy & Harriet's (Nikki Lane performing a sold out show the night we stayed at the motel for a friend's wedding!); Main Street looks like a ol' western town movie set complete with a trading post, jail house, barnyard (selling artist items). This is where our friend got married - it was perfect in so many ways... If you plan on visiting Joshua Tree or want to see a show at Pappy & Harriets, I reckon' you book a night's stay at Pioneer Town Motel.

Craig W.

Yelp
Unpretentious, little motel, literally a one minute walk from Pappy & Harriet's. If you plan to imbibe at Pappy's (and who doesn't?), a room here is a very flat, quick and easy stagger back after closing time. The room sizes are smallish but not tiny. There are no TVs in the room--at least there wasn't in our room, which was fine with us. There's decent free wi-fi. Free coffee and hot chocolate in the little office building. Friendly staff. Clean room and very tiny showers. The place apparently sells out frequently because of large bookings by wedding parties, birthday parties, etc. There was a large birthday celebration going on during our stay. They were loud at night but that's to be expected. You can hear the bands play from the rooms facing P&H. I suppose, if you want a quieter experience, you might ask for a room on the other wing of the property which faces away from the restaurant. This place ain't cheap (I think our room was $200), especially for a motel almost in the middle of nowhere, but for the right occasion, I'd stay here again.

Melda E.

Yelp
We love Pioneertown and we came here last night with my sister and our kids. Since our house is in renovation in Joshua Tree, we decided to stay at the motel so we don't do the drive at night to Long Beach. Everything was great until we got home in LB. We all found out we have lice in our hair. I called the motel and let them know about the situation. The person answered the phone, I think he was Tom, was very rude on the phone and of course did not take any responsibility. I didn't expect anything from him but at least make sure that the room is extra clean after we left so the next person doesn't have what we have. I'm pretty sure we got it from the room. Instead he said we cleaned the room already and ready for the next guest. Wow. I really don't think they take really good attention cleaning their rooms. The whole thing is a like movie set but just have a better customer service and clean rooms.

Dorian R.

Yelp
Having coffee in the morning while looking out at the desert, relaxing by the fireplace in the evening and gazing at the stars from your hammock at night are just a few of the great memories I have of my stay. I loved the western theme of the rooms and the staff is extremely nice and accomodating. Looking forward to staying there again.

Maria E.

Yelp
I love it here SO MUCH. Boutique hotels have my heart and Pioneertown Motel is very unique in terms of its style and location. If you like desert vibes, Western history, and good food/drink, this is the place to be. LOCATION: Pioneertown is amazing. It's an old film set built for the Hollywood era of Westerns. Most of the storefronts are just for show but there are a few that are open (a couple gift shops). Normally, they have more going on (an old bowling alley as well as a Western show -- both currently closed) but Covid has curtailed their offerings. Anyway, the hotel as well as the film set are magical. Also, you're within a reasonable driving distance of other awesome activities -- Joshua Tree National Park (currently open), the amazing Integratron sound bath (currently happening under the stars only), the International Crochet Museum, the Noah Purifoy Sculpture Garden, the Sky's The Limit Observatory and Nature Center (currently closed for astronomy events although the grounds are open), among others. Additionally, there are hammocks outside the rooms and lots of benches to sit and stargaze. ROOMS: The rooms are decorated in a Western style and really cute. They are relatively simple and you won't find a television. I think that's done on purpose -- they want you to unplug and go look at the stars (I forgot to mention that even close to a full moon, the stars are magical around here). The WiFi worked well. They have a refrigerator in the room and provided two complimentary water bottles. No microwave though. Everything was really clean. The bed is comfortable and the shower is fantastic -- I had one of the best showers here. Maybe it's washing off all that dust or maybe it's the excellent heat and water pressure. Or perhaps all that. The AC unit worked really well. The room also came with vintage books -- Shakespeare, D.H. Lawrence, Plato. Oh and they offered you the opportunity to borrow them and mail them back once you're done. How neat! Also, the room came with several folding chairs that you could borrow (wish I knew that before I purchased a chair for the outdoor Integratron sound bath). Speaking of sound, it was very quiet here. I didn't hear any of the other guests through the walls. FRONT DESK: Surprisingly accessible with very friendly staff. They have someone there from 8am until 5am. No need to worry about checking in late. Complimentary coffee in the mornings. FOOD/DRINK: Pappy and Harriet's is just steps away. It's a well-known music venue with pretty solid food, great drink options, and an awesome atmosphere. They close at 930pm (currently) and always have a wait but they are really accommodating so if you get your name on that list, they should be able to seat you. Additionally, the Red Dog Saloon is a short walk away (also currently open until 10pm). Great place to grab a beer and some appetizers/snacks. Please note that both of these places are open Thursday through Monday only. GETTING THERE/PARKING: Turn right before Pappy and Harriet's and keep going (past their large parking lot). You will see the entrance to the hotel on the left. Ample and easy parking there. If you're driving from LA, be aware of TRAFFIC and plan accordingly, particularly if you want to eat dinner at P&H (late check in isn't an issue at the hotel, thankfully). We drove from LA on a Friday and left at 330PM. We got there at about 8PM. It's a 2-hour drive but it took 4 1/2. Only an issue during peak traffic times (took 2 hours to get back on Sunday, early afternoon). PRICE: The only problem, really. It's expensive. I believe I paid about $250 per night and it's probably not going to drop much lower than that. It was for my boyfriend's birthday so I splurged. In spite of that, they get plenty of bookings so if you want to stay here, make sure you book it in advance.

Yelp
We're so happy we came across this place that is pandemic safe and SUPER CUTE. We were looking for an escape from our home but still wanted to be safe and away from people. Each room has it's own AC/Heater unit and is right next to Pioneertown. They also offer hammocks and lawn chairs to stargaze at night. The staff is super awesome and incredibly accommodating. This is the perfect weekend getaway. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Great little motel with the bare necessities and a ton of charm. Staff is super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Damn even the hand soap is amazing... the rooms were relaxing, clean and comfortable. The whole vibe and decor is just what I'd expect it to be. This was one of our favorite trips and the Motel made the trip great. The Front desk clerk was so sweet and they even had a personalized letter for us. HIGHLY recommend you stay here! Especially if you're into history and film! :)

Yelp
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun ... Many of you will need to look that up. Go ahead. I'll wait. All we're trying to say here is that life has a way of passing. As much as the siren soothes us with her song, as much as it feels that this will just go on and on forever ... it won't. And if we don't make a deliberate effort to get out and about we'll look up one day and be all whoa how did this happen. In my experience, out and about means simply something that departs from the day to day. Something not of the pattern. A departure that sticks a stick in your minds eye and stirs it a bit; something that puts the viewer in a different setting with different stimuli. Like, a place where the remote is out of reach. We all have something in our figurative backyards like this irrespective where we live. Por ejemplo - I had 20 unprogrammed hours this weekend. So I went to Joshua Tree to see the yucca bloom. And after, with dusty feet and a somewhat refreshed perspective I settled in Pioneertown for the night. Here's the rub - this isn't for everybody, I don't think. If you get a little scared at the prospect of no remote and need coffee in your room when you wake up, don't come here. There are Best Western's and Holiday Inn Expresseses at the bottom of the hill that will trip your light not so fantastic. The rooms at the Pioneertown Motel are simply furnished. Very simply furnished. There is no television. There is a stand-up shower. You won't burn your fingers on the Wifi, it's that fast. But the pillows and mattress are quite comfortable and there were two horses right outside my front door and at night after supper at Pappy and Harriet's I wandered down Main Street in the dark and it was all western and there was a cat that ran out from a creosote bush and was all sup, stars for days, and I said yes then we were quiet for a spell.

Yelp
Way overdue, but better late than never. I got hitched (quite literally) on Mane Street in Pioneertown with a reception at Pappy & Harriet's, so a majority of our guests stayed at Pioneertown Motel. My partner and I stayed here as well. Weekday weddings are the best for so many reasons. No two-night minimums when you reserve the entire Motel for a Thursday! Working with the manager, Tom, was a breeze. He responds within a day and is *so* nice in-person. We paid the entire fee, deposit up front upon request and remaining balance IRL, then subsidized the room cost for our guests and they paid me directly. Even though you're supposed to make a special request to take photos onsite, Tom was cool enough to let us snap a few photos at the Motel before we trotted over to Mane Street for the ceremony. It was the golden hour and we got SO many beautiful photos. There's also a barn guests can rent for special occasions. However, Mane Street worked out better for our group. Our two-night stay (we got there the day before) was drama-free. VERY dark and quiet at night, but that leaves room for stargazing and enjoying Mother Nature. And since we had the entire place to ourselves the night of the wedding, there was plenty of post-Pappy & Harriet's fun to be had as well. 5-stars and can't recommend Pioneertown itself enough, Pioneertown Motel included.

Yelp
We stayed here to get away from it all for a couple of nights, and boy was it the place! Tucked away in the hills of the high desert, Pioneertown itself is a perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of LA or Orange County, but to make your visit really worth while, spend a night at the Pioneertown Motel. The building is cute, modern-rustic, with that high desert charm. Our room was clean, featuring an AC/heat unit, fridge (that was artfully hidden), and many books. Sorry, no TV, but you shouldn't want to watch TV here anyway! One side of the motel faces Pioneertown and the equally amazing Pappy & Harriet's, while the other side faces a vast expanse that is perfect for star gazing, with benches, hammocks, and if you look in the closet of the room there are chairs to take out if all the rest outside are full. It's super quiet too! Just as peaceful as I had hoped. The staff was extremely nice as well as helpful. Inside the office were postcards, t-shirts, blankets and more. I would totally stay here again.

Yelp
Buyer beware!! The customer service at this motel is absolutely THE WORST. The management is terrible. Their computer system messed up our reservation and even though they took out my money, the didn't honor my reservation (although they had availability) and instead wanted me to repay for a room already paid for. They claimed it was an error on my end when it's their website that is a total disaster. We couldn't believe the level of indifference and lack of customer service. There are plenty of beautiful places with service in Yucca -- but this is not one of them.

Yelp
Not a fan of the establishment at all. The walls are paperrrr thin. You can hear everything going on outside and in the room next to you. There are barely an amenities in the room. No soap bars. If you want to buy a Kind bar from the office it cost $4.75. Thats super ridiculous for a $2.00 granola bar. Spent over $275 to stay at this hotel and I felt totally gypped. Would never waste my money staying at this place ever again. Nothing special. Noisy and overpriced.

Yelp
Completely rundown, my family and I spent one night there and left the next day the door latch was broken. The shower is very small no room to move around and don't get me started with the beds rooms only come with one bed. Don't waste your money oh there's no TVs. You'd be better off in an air BNB

Yelp
At the end of a long and winding road, there's a place called Pioneertown that looks like it came straight from the set of a western movie. This is probably because that's exactly what the location was used for, old timey filming way back when. They even have a stretch of dirt road with some old shops selling everything from books to home goods, a great way to kill some time and snap some photos. The rooms fit the theme but are extremely well kept and comfortable. If one of the creature comforts for you is a television, then you'll be disappointed as they don't have that amenity here. The wifi was sufficiently fast so I was still able to get my dose of The Office streamed to my phone without any problems. Not many food and drink options nearby, but Pappy and Harriet's serves late night sips and bites until about 1am, and if you don't mind driving there are two 24-hour Del Tacos about 15-minutes by car. If you're smart, you'll pack ample snacks and booze ahead of time so you don't have to go searching for it in the middle of the night. There aren't a ton of rooms here, so if you know there's a show happening at Pappy and Harriet's that you want to stay overnight for, or you're planning ahead for that weekend getaway, book sooner than later as it fills up fast. I'd for sure come back here for a night while heading to or from Palm Springs. If you're into cowboy culture, this one will probably be right up your alley!

Yelp
Damn, this place is magic. Had never been to Joshua Tree/Pioneertown until recently and am going to need to book a trip back ASAP. Only a couple hour drive (well, depending on traffic) from LA, this part of California feels like you've been transported to another planet. Had the pleasure of attending a super wonderful wedding here, which made it extra special! Pioneertown Motel has only about twenty or so rooms, each with a simple yet trendy desert vibe. My room was comfy and no frills, which I love--don't come here expecting a television or even a hairdryer (although you can borrow a dryer from the front desk if you need it). There's a mini fridge and two complimentary bottles of water, plus the comfiest bed you ever did sleep in. This may seem like a "duh" sort of tip, but this is the desert and therefore very dusty. Don't bring your Sunday whites or your sky high heels--this is cowboy boot country for sure. Make sure to take a stroll down Main St, the old Western movie set that's very fascinating/photo-worthy. Pappy and Harriet's is the place to eat/drink nearby--you can also drive into town (about ten minutes) if you're looking for more options in the food department. The Joshua Trees, ultra cool locals, and slowed down vibe makes this place something else. I'll be back sooooon!

Yelp
Memorable stay. Hits....comfortable bedding and decor. Great location close to park and restaurants. Great spot for night photography or family get together. Staff was very friendly. Misses....in room coffee maker for early risers and blackout shades. Would stay again.

Yelp
What a beautiful experience. My sister and I decided to trek out last minute from LA and I'm so glad we came across PTM-- and this coming from me, a Joshua Tree regular! It's like they designed a beautiful motel then asked, how do we make each of these details one level more magical. It was incredibly clean, well stocked and beautifully designed. Beds, bedding and toiletries were great. Loved the welcome newsletter. Staff from management to facilities were super kind and welcoming, just like the rest of Pioneertown/Joshua Tree.

Yelp
LOVED this place even before they bougied it up, and now it is FANTASTIC! Never been more relaxed. Was going to stay one night, and we extended to two, could not possibly pry ourselves away from this heavenly haven. Renee and Tom, who worked at the front desk, could not have been kinder or more welcoming. And the beautiful woman who refilled the coffee urn for us was just lovely as well. Thank you for a PERFECT two days, we will be back!!!!!

Yelp
First time to the Joshua Tree area and knew we wanted to stay here when we booked our trip back in the spring. Needless to say it completely exceeded our expectations making us not want to leave. The decor of the room was amazing, so much so that I'm already researching a few items to get for my own home. The wild west charm and character of the entire motel will help you escape all your problems and relax in this desert oasis. The staff always went above and beyond whenever we had questions or needed assistance. We stayed for a week exploring all around the area falling more in love with the town and desert. I am already recommending Pioneertown Motel to everyone I know so they can experience this classic wild west motel that will take them back in time! This is the closest you'll get to "how the west was once".

Yelp
This place is really cute and conveniently located. Our room didn't have a TV which was kind of a bummer but not that big of a deal considering there's a lot to do there. I think the prices are a tiny bit on the steep side for what it is but it's more or less worth it in the end since you don't have to drive into town for anything if you plan on having a couple of drinks at one of the bars/restaurants that is walking distance. The people who checked us in/out were super nice and the whole feel there is really welcoming and friendly. My only complaint would be the weekend room rates. $300 for a room is pretty steep all things considered. Overall worth checking the spot out though x

Francois P.

Yelp
Stayed there last weekend, Tom the manager charged my card a week after my stay without any heads up for a camping chair missing from the room. Absolutely unacceptable that my card was charged without my consent or any heads up, and obviously I do not have their chair, so it's their word against mine. Tom has been radio silence after my 2nd email. Terrible experience, I would strongly recommend staying away from this place and find an Airbnb instead.

Yelp
I've stayed here twice since 2015 and it's absolutely magical. It was amazing even before the remodel. I don't know how to describe Pioneertown but let me just say it's pure magic. This last time we checked in later in the evening by John - he was so nice and incredibly helpful! Thanks for all of your help John :) if you don't want to stay at Pappy & Harriet's for too long then you can go around back of the motel and relax in the hammocks for some star gazing. The rooms are SO CUTE and cozy and CLEAN. Super comfortable beds. The sheets were like 8,000,000 count thread. Everything was perfection.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying at the Pioneertown Motel for a wedding in Pioneertown itself so right off the bat the location was perfect for me. The hotel itself was really clean, the workers that I ran into during my time there were so friendly, and it's basically spitting distance to Pappy & Harriet's so all of those factors also add into my 5-star rating. There aren't a ton of luxuries in this area (think: no TVs in the room, spotty Wi-Fi, room service? ha.), but if you plan to visit Joshua Tree or catch a show at the amazing venue that is Pappy & Harriet's I don't know that you could find a better place to stay than the Pioneertown Motel. Plus, it was recently refurbished and the rooms show it with their super cool vibes. If I find myself back in the area in the future I'd definitely be happy to stay at this spot.

Yelp
We stayed there last week when it was very cold. My quick takeaways... - the room was $175 for the night, I would expect it to have held heat. It did not. If we hadn't had our down comforter from home with us, we couldn't have stayed - the room is very bare bones. I was surprised there wasn't even a electric pot got tea/water. - front desk woman was a bit rough. I get you are not in the office all the time and we have to push a button and wait for you. But when you greet someone with a bad attitude when a guest arrived, it sets a tone - it's a cute idea but not worth the money sadly

Yelp
Very serene and peaceful here. Rooms were very clean, staff was always helpful and kind. We look forward to coming back and would recommend to all.
