This place is absolutely stunning. The pictures truly don't do it justice!!!
I did a little research and chose Pippin Hill as our one winery to visit while we were in Charlottesville for just two nights, and I grabbed a reservation online a month or two in advance for lunch on the covered veranda (very glad I did - it was full the whole time we were there).
Our kind server, Ethan, a brought us to the most beautiful table facing out over the mountains - it was idyllic. We decided to share two tasting flights - the reserve flight and the white/rosé flight - and we liked the majority of the wines on both. Food-wise, we were very pleased with the large portion sizes (yes, it's expensive, but at least you aren't leaving still hungry!). We shared the PHF board (both cheeses were flavorful, and the two cured meats were particularly fresh - loved the nuts, jams, olives and toasts on there, too), and we planned to get an entree, but we were so full from the board that we ended up just doing two sides - the Parmesan & herb French fries (solid - loved the fresh herbs on those) and the roasted Brussels sprouts (best thing we ate - they were served on top of whipped feta and were topped a lovely vinaigrette).
We grabbed another glass of the rosé and enjoyed strolling through the grounds for an hour or so (it was pretty windy up there, but still gorgeous).
This was a very memorable experience for us - it truly felt like we were in another country. Amazing that we have something like this nestled on the east coast!!!
