Why Virginia Is the Perfect Girls Getaway Destination

"A picturesque winery just outside town with quaint gardens and grape-covered landscapes; visitors can sit at outdoor tables overlooking the vines and enjoy wine flights (the reviewer sampled one red and one white) along with light bites as part of the nearby Monticello Wine Trail." - Jessica Poitevien Jessica Poitevien Jessica Poitevien is an international storyteller and regular contributor to Travel + Leisure. 3 Best Day Trips from Washington, D.C. | Condé Nast Traveler

"This breathtaking vineyard, set along Virginia's Monticello Wine Trail, overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains and focuses on the varietals that Thomas Jefferson, America’s original winemaker, produced, including zesty Sauvignon Blancs, Blanc de Blancs, and barrel-fermented Chardonnays. But Pippin Hill's 16 wines span a variety of grapes and techniques; standouts include the mineral-forward Viognier and a classic Cabernet Sauvignon that's reminiscent of Bordeaux cuvées. Unlike some of the other vineyards in the region, Pippin Hill has a strong focus on food: the tasting room offers small plates to complement pours of wines, of course, but you’d be remiss to skip the Vintner’s Table, a group dining experience that features four courses (many with ingredients grown on-site) paired with Pippin Hill wines. If you don't have time for a full meal, note there are few things better than watching the sun set over the Blue Ridge Mountains with a glass of Viognier in hand." - Laura Ratliff, Kristen Schott

THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!! I am writing this so late my birthday was back in July! But my husband coordinated a whole surprise weekend for my 30th birthday with some of my closest friends and Pippen Hill was one of our stops! We had the best time LAUREN IS AMAZING!! She makes wine tasting so fun and effortless and not pretentious at all. The little bites they gave us with the wine tasting were someone of best bites I have taken EVER! I loved the watermelon and the chocolate cake and the macaron it was all sooooo good. We wanted to buy some everything and take it home (you cant unfortunately lol!). We were honestly sad the tasting was done because we wanted Lauren to join our crew lol she was that great! After the tasting we had a table and got to sit outside and admire the view IT IS AMAZING! The food they have to order is great as well, we had an amazing time just hanging out and taking pictures and of course we brought home some wine! Unfortunately I am already married but I am looking for any excuse to throw a party there, they also have great weekend experiences which I am excited to try out as well. GO HERE!!!! You will not regret it — was the highlight of my birthday weekend!

Pippin Hill is in a class of it's own. I'm a wedding photographer and my couples love real experiences, connection with family and friends, and being fully present. But to be able to do all of that while overlooking a stunning valley with top-tier food made onsite?? Incredible. Thanks Pippin Hill for being a great host!

Google
Pippin Hill is an absolute gem just outside of Charlottesville. The drive out is beautiful and really sets the tone for the whole experience. The views are incredible—rolling hills, open skies, and the perfect backdrop for a relaxing afternoon. The wine flights were so enjoyable and thoughtfully curated, and the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Lunch was delicious, and the Brussels sprouts are a must-try—perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and honestly one of the standout dishes of the day. If you’re looking for a peaceful, gorgeous spot with great wines, great food, and exceptional service, Pippin Hill is a must.

Breathtaking views while you sip your wine and eat their delicious food. They have gorgeous indoor dining and plenty of outdoor seating areas where you can bring your food and take in the mountains and rolling hills. Everyone we encountered was so nice. We went with our 3 kids and small dog (not allowed inside but able to sit outside with us). We ordered a flight of wine, butter noodles and the Brussels sprouts (they were so good I was tempted to order more to go). Thank you for making us feel so welcome! Some wineries are not so family friendly. We will be back for sure!

Had a great experience at this winery! The views are absolutely beautiful and create such a relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious and paired perfectly with the wine flights we tried. Gena was our server and she was fantastic—very kind & knowledgable. Overall, a lovely place to spend an afternoon.

Google
Great location, subtile and cosy. With a wonderfull view!!! Great sommerlier and great information about the wine. BUT.... with the tasting I wanted to see more like a "Sparkling wine, white wine, rose, red wine and maybe a dessert wine. We only had 2 white wines and 4 red wines. For the rest the food was great, the truffle oil Fries were amazing, but the sliders were very dry unfortunately. Just a honest review! ✨️🍷

Google
One of my favorite wineries in the world. (And yes I’ve been to wineries in Napa and Spain)…Fantastic food. Beautiful venue. The walkway with the hydrangeas is beautiful no matter what season you are in. And world class wine.

Google
My wife and I came up for extended weekend and came here on a recommendation from our daughter who was here 3 years ago - loved it. The vibe, the staff, the wines all very good. The entire place was very clean, and the views from the outside deck are spectacular. Get a reservation If you plan on going during a peak time (and you want a covered area outside to sit); we hit it on a Friday early afternoon and did not have a problem, but can imagine it would get crowded at others times. Enjoy!

Yelp
I've been to Pippin Hill twice now, and both times I left wanting to come back! This vineyard is definitely a favorite of mine. The landscaping was absolutely beautiful. All the flowers and lime/lemon trees were amazing. The covered patio is also perfect for a group on a nice day. We each got a wine flight. Everyone loved their wines so much that each person ended up buying a bottle to take home. I love the way they do the flight as well. We also shared a charcuterie plate and hummus which were both delicious. Highly recommend making Pippin Hill a must on your next vineyard day!

Yelp
I want to start my review by praising the staff for their consideration. My waiter was kind and accommodating and so was every other staff member I encountered. Pippin hill is a beautiful winery with gorgeous views. I had a reservation to sit inside, as I had seen that food is limited if you do a walk in and sit on the lawn. The menus are drastically different and what I wanted wasn't available without a reservation. Other wineries in the area have similar policies of inside being reservation only, but I have never seen a significantly limited menu difference between the two. In my opinion I found it frustrating to need a reservation to have a decent selection to choose from. The food was ok. I had the tomato burrata salad and the cheese board. The tomato burrata plate was ok. In my opinion I could have appreciated more balsamic reduction. It was $17 which I found to be overpriced for what you received. The tomato's were ok but nothing amazing. The cheese board was $28 and was scant. One of the cheeses I see in my local grocery store for cheap. I like it but I just don't see where the money went into the board. The serving was small. The cheese was fine but there was nothing unique about the board for it to be this price. I was slightly disappointed by the accompaniments and wish there was more variety. The staff were gracious enough to let me try several of the wines. I found them all to be average. Typical run of the mill reds and whites. Nothing extraordinary nothing great. The Chardonnay was worth the $11. I'd say the rest of the wine was just average and slightly below for the price. I was hoping to find a wine that made me want to return but unfortunately I found that they were all in my mind middle of the line. Considering the area in which Pippin Hill sits, I have to honestly say there are much better wines in the area for equal or lesser pricing. The food is also overpriced. You pay for the hospitality and good vibes. If you want a slightly overpriced brunch in a gorgeous environment with accommodating staff this is your place. If you are looking for bang for your buck I would not recommend. I wish I could give this a higher rating as I found my waiter so nice but unfortunately I was just disappointed overall.

Yelp
Such a lovely vineyard to visit. The site is so gorgeous and the staff is so friendly. They had greeters at the front of the winery which was so pleasant and everyone was just so nice. The wine here was good too! We got a reserve flight and white wine flight. Both were so good and I shared it with my husband. We ordered a lot of food and every single dish was so fresh and flavorful. It's farm to table so the meal was so delicious. I really enjoyed the short rib grilled cheese. The short rib was so tender and added a nice flavor and texture to the grilled cheese. my daughter devoured the fries. They were so fresh and I loved the toppings on the fries. The beet salad was so good. It was sweet and the beets went well with the toppings. Their pasta was good too! The noodles were cooked perfectly and they meat and mushroom sauce was so good with the dish. A must visit!

Yelp
Beautiful winery in Charlottesville! I went with some friends and we had a great time. We started inside with a flight and food, and then headed outside. I also saw that it was a wedding venue. There is a path you can walk along, down the hill with flowers. You can also see the mountains as seen in the pictures attached. I would definitely bring a visiting friend here to show what Charlottesville has to offer.
google avatar

Yelp
The views! The wine! The charcuterie!!! Obsessed!! So let's start with this. They tell everyone that the Brussels sprouts are their big seller. So everyone gets them and then it smells like...well...Brussels sprouts We enjoyed the PHF board and wine flights. The presentation were great on both! I was a little turned off by the unpasteurized cow milk blue cheese, but I am glad they told me what it was before I dug into it. There are lots of seating options here. We were lucky enough to snag a covered veranda spot - the seats are honestly a little comfortable but THOSE VIEWS!!!! My favorite was the Sauvignon blanc. Really cool and crisp and hot the spot on a hot day!

Yelp
THE BIG: Located in North Garden, which is about 20 mins south of Charlottesville. Beautiful estate with views for days of the rolling mountains. Picnic and outdoor seating available along with table service inside. Parking lot does get filled up quickly. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I have been here a couple of times and we wanted to revisit to see how the wines were. TL;DR: they are still delicious. We didn't have a reservation but there are picnic flights of four wines that you can choose from, all reds, all whites, a lil bit of both. We got the red and white flight. It was an interesting presentation with little glass bottles that you pour yourself and the stemless glassware. I'm not the biggest fan of stemless wine glasses but it worked the cuteness factor. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the picnic wine tasting of four wines was around $20. Beautiful views and definitely a must come back with a picnic to enjoy the scenery and wines.

Yelp
Pippin Hill has a great reputation, and it's well-earned. It's a lovely place to spend a few hours or an afternoon or evening. In addition to the winery and restaurant, there's a lot to see on the grounds, including beautiful gardens and chickens. In the tasting room, we tried the Confit Garlic Hummus and a BLT. Everything was very tasty and fresh, as we visited in the middle of summer. My wife had a sangria, and I tried a flight plus a glass of the rosé. The wine is delicious. My only complaint is we had indoor reservations because it was 100+ degrees outside, and the air conditioning inside could not keep up with the heat. I'm not sure if it was malfunctioning or just wasn't adequate for the space, but we sat near a thermostat and could see it was in the mid-80s inside and felt like there was no air moving in the space. On the porch, there's fresh air and ceiling fans, and that may have been the better bet.

Yelp
Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard, located just outside Charlottesville, is a truly beautiful place. From the moment you arrive, you're welcomed by blooming white hydrangeas that set a charming and welcoming ambiance. We enjoyed a glass of rosé and a charcuterie board; both were excellent. The views are absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere is peaceful and well-curated. Everything was clean and thoughtfully arranged, and the staff was polite, friendly, and attentive

Yelp
What an absolute gem! Pippin Hill is one of those rare spots that completely takes your breath away the moment you arrive. The views are stunning--rolling hills, lush vineyards, and that perfect Virginia countryside charm. We stopped by on a whim and ended up spending hours sipping wine, soaking up the scenery, and wishing we never had to leave. Every glass was delicious, the food was fresh and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere couldn't have been more relaxing. The staff was friendly and made the whole experience feel special--like you're part of something magical rather than just visiting a winery. We'll definitely be returning as soon as possible. If you're anywhere near Charlottesville, do yourself a favor and make the trip. Pure perfection!

Yelp
Such a beautiful location! We walked among the cosmos and took pictures with the mountains in the background. There are chickens and a garden, and the inside space is also gorgeous. We did the tasting with bites. The bites paired really well with the wine. That was the highlight for me. I did not expect the tasting to be so instructional, but I appreciated that. The wines are very good. We ate the food afterwards and loved everything.

Yelp
Great vineyard! Delicious food and wines to match! Service is excellent. Beautiful place inside and out

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard with a beautiful view, great libations and delicious food! We visited on a Friday, the day before my sister-in-laws wedding which happened to also be at Pippin Hill! We were able to snag a large table on the veranda. I enjoyed the frose (divine!) and we shared quite a few dishes, the Brussels, a shrimp and scallop special, truffle fries, and more. Everything tasted great. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The view, service, and everything enjoyed were all great. I would recommend and revisit Pippin Hill! Can't wait to return and relive the memories.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for a lovely Thursday afternoon out! First when we approach the winery, the views are breathtaking! Mountains in the background and viewing the grounds of the vineyard were like something out of an fancy estate. We were able to snag a table outside on the patio. It was hot but we were under some shade. Our server was delightful and asked what kind of wines we liked etc. We decided to go with wine flights - I got the reserve while my friend got the red. We also both got glasses of sparkling rose. The reserve wines were pretty good over all. The wild Common was my favorite of the reserves. My friends reds were okay. Some had weird notes like 'clay' or 'plotting soil'. The rose was really good! We also got some herb-garlic fries so we can munch on. We had a fun few hours there the roamed around on the grounds afterwards. The only thing I didnt like how expensive all the wines were (the reserve one i liked was $55 a bottle!!!). Overall a great winery to hang out and have some good wine.

Yelp
Delicious food, excellent wine--and the view is absolutely stunning! You've got to check out this winery next time you're in Charlottesville. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch and some truly tasteful wine.

Yelp
As a tourist, I would say this stop is a five out of five. I'm an anxious person and I didn't want to guess if there would be seating available when I arrived (or call to check), so I appreciated the online reservations! After reading through some Reddit posts from locals, this was a recommended spot! There are a few other popular wineries in the area to check out as well. As far as ambience, it's in a beautiful location with the rolling hills and mountains around you. The grounds are well-maintained and the building is beautiful and full of sunlight. We were sat inside and were greeted by friendly server right away that explained the menu. I decided to do the red wine flight, and my partner decided to do the white wine flight. We also ordered a charcuterie board that included the chef's daily selections. As my first true winery experience, it was fun to be able to taste the differences between each wine and play around with how each wine paired with items on the board. Their menu also has suggestions on what to pair with certain wines. After the flights, I ended up ordering a glass of their wild common, because hey, I wasn't driving! I also got a bottle to take home! I love black pepper wines, and tobacco wines, and they had several! Plenty of parking on site and your reservation is limited to 90 minutes. My only note is: I wish the waitress had come to check on us sooner, so I could order a glass earlier without rushing to drink it before we left.

Yelp
5 of us went on a Sunday (that happened to be UVA graduation weekend which we didn't know). We didn't have a reservation (though will next time) and got lucky with an (immediate) table inside close to a window of the gorgeous view. Our server was great, present, friendly and informative but never hovering. 4 of us were drinking and shared the red flight (yes, we had tiny tastes!) and really enjoyed it. We also shared sliders, sweet potato fries, the PHF board and then the chocolate cupcakes. Everything was perfection! The day wasn't too sunny but it was dry and warmish so we walked around a bit and got some nice candid family photos. It was very busy with a wait when we left, so next time definitely a reservation and want to sit outside and enjoy the view more directly! (Though the menu options seem like they might be different inside v outside so will have to check on that first.) Next time, be back on a date!!
google avatar

Yelp
Eh. Our friends highly recommended this place while we were in Charlottesville for my birthday/babymoon. We walked in and were essentially treated like trash bc we hadn't booked a tasting/food in advance. I'm very pregnant (like 37 weeks) so obviously I wasn't doing a tasting. My husband wanted a casual, walk-in tasting and was rebuffed by two members of the staff when he asked about it - although we had looked at the website in advance and saw this was an offering. It was crowded - but there were seats available on the lawn and inside. We were told the bar had tasting but he wasn't able to get any help. It's beautiful and picturesque and has a lovely view of the mountains, gorgeous landscaping, and a pretty outdoor covered seating area on the patio but we ended up leaving pretty quickly after walking around a bit due to the treatment, hubs didn't want to spend any money here so we left and went elsewhere. I'm sure had we booked a tasting in advance we'd have had a different experience but that wasn't what we came for.

Yelp
GET A RESERVATION. we went there today and asked to do a wine tasting. The hostess said they didn't have room for us. I asked to sit on the porch. The hostess said they were reserved. She offered for us to stand on the lawn at a high top table. We could buy food and wine and carry them out to the table. I went out there to see if there was a chair. There were a few table with chairs on the lawn but it was full sun, no shade. I went back and asked abt something on the shade She offered a green house. I went down to that. There were 4 tables and they were used. I went inside there are only 7 spots for wine tasting we just left. I didn't think it would be fun to spend $75 on a couple of diy wine tasting and hot in the sun charcuterie.

Yelp
We've been to Pippin Hill a few times after an annual board meeting and I gotta say it's just fine dining at its best. service is impeccable and the food is wonderful... our starter was homemade focaccia with caramelized onions, with a nice crabcake salad, finished off with an olive cake and fresh whipped cream--the latter of which was worth the trip out there. absolutely phenomenal finishing touch to the dessert. my one note is the chairs were pretty uncomfortable for a fine-dining establishment. but that's just a quibble. Pippin Hill has a woodfired pizza-making station that I could sit and watch all afternoon. just an incredible setting for any type of meal.
google avatar

Lola A.

Yelp
Such a cute boutique winery. The design gave off cottage vibes. Beautiful views and very cozy. Again, you won't find sweet wines here but there sweetest would be their petit manseng that was pretty good. And the short rib grilled cheese was perfection. Reservations are not required. Staff was nice and accommodating. We walked in and were able to sit in the enclosed veranda area.
google avatar

Brad J.

Yelp
Amazing small plates with nice pairing of wines. Service by Dustin was excellent. Kind caring and friendly. If you stay at Crossroads Inn you get 1 flight tasting comped. Terrace tasting enjoyed a beautiful vista of mountains with patio comfort that makes the ambiance breathtaking.
google avatar

Yelp
It's the perfect place for a glass of wine or a tasting on a crisp fall day! I went two weekends ago and it was the perfect quick get away from Richmond! It was a Saturday so it was very crowded, but that didn't stop us from having a good time! The grounds are beautiful and there is plenty of space to bring a picnic blanket and spread out! The wine was great! I did the flight and my favorite in it was the cab franc! You should totally go and sip wine and take in the views!
google avatar

Viktor B.

Yelp
Unique food menu. Wine and atmosphere is perfect. Only disappointed with the small table they set the four of us at. We had wine flights and apps that had no space.
google avatar

Bailey C.

Yelp
Friday afternoon. The view alone is worth coming! A absolutely gorgeous fall day on the hill. Friendly staff, lots of people, and calm fun atmosphere. Dog friendly. Patio is first come first serve. We got a wine flight and enjoyed the sunshine and mountaintop foliage views. Able to keep the wine glass with the $20 flight. Also a great place to picnic they provide blankets

Yelp
Had a great experience last Saturday visiting this beautiful vineyard. Unfortunately we did not have a reservation but luckily there was inside seating available with maybe a 5 min wait. The view from inside was great as they have two walls of windows. We ordered the red and white flights and a charcuterie board. Then when finished both ordered a glass to take outside and wander the grounds. It's a lovely property. So many wildflowers amongst the Mountain View. Will absolutely be back again!

Yelp
This place is absolutely stunning. The pictures truly don't do it justice!!! I did a little research and chose Pippin Hill as our one winery to visit while we were in Charlottesville for just two nights, and I grabbed a reservation online a month or two in advance for lunch on the covered veranda (very glad I did - it was full the whole time we were there). Our kind server, Ethan, a brought us to the most beautiful table facing out over the mountains - it was idyllic. We decided to share two tasting flights - the reserve flight and the white/rosé flight - and we liked the majority of the wines on both. Food-wise, we were very pleased with the large portion sizes (yes, it's expensive, but at least you aren't leaving still hungry!). We shared the PHF board (both cheeses were flavorful, and the two cured meats were particularly fresh - loved the nuts, jams, olives and toasts on there, too), and we planned to get an entree, but we were so full from the board that we ended up just doing two sides - the Parmesan & herb French fries (solid - loved the fresh herbs on those) and the roasted Brussels sprouts (best thing we ate - they were served on top of whipped feta and were topped a lovely vinaigrette). We grabbed another glass of the rosé and enjoyed strolling through the grounds for an hour or so (it was pretty windy up there, but still gorgeous). This was a very memorable experience for us - it truly felt like we were in another country. Amazing that we have something like this nestled on the east coast!!!

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance and wine were all wonderful. Service was above and beyond BTW! Dog and people friendly. Fantastic landscape.

Noli T.

Yelp
We went down to Charlottesville to celebrate my cousin's birthday, and originally reserved for an estate tour and tasting. Unfortunately when we arrived, we were told that we had actually reserved a dining table, though we scheduled through the link attributed to estate tours on the website. Management informed us that it was misleading/a mistake on the website and that the tours for the next day were also booked, so we decided to dine inside. The service was amazing and the food as well. We tried the reserve and white wine flights, and various dishes. Gina and Jordan were phenomenal and truly made this experience special. With the flights, they gave us a glass of the wine used in the tour so we could still experience it. The estate in general was also gorgeous and made for lovely photos.

Yelp
Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards is simply lovely on all counts. The space is gorgeous with a nice rustic feel and stunning views. We split the wine tasting, which was excellent. I enjoyed each wine; all bringing something special. Although, we agreed the cab franc was the winner of the tasting. We paired our delicious wine with their hummus and artichokes - which both exceeded our expectations. I'd love to come back in warmer weather to sit outside and enjoy all the goodies.
google avatar

Yelp
visited poppin hill farm and vineyard for my bday and it was such a beautiful experience. the venue is amazing and would fit any occasion I enjoyed sliders and a glass of wine. my server even gave me suggestions because I want to do a tasting but told her i like sweeter wines and she recommended one. she even gave me a special gift for my bday. "absolutely love this place" was something I hear a guest say and I absolutely agree.

Yelp
Nestled on a rolling hillside on Virginia's Monticello Wine trail sits this amazing restaurant! Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard is well worth a visit! From the views to the food it was amazing! The hummus platter and crispy Brussels Sprouts were perfect accompaniments for the outstanding wine flight tastings we tried! And the crispy chicken sandwich was delightful! We had attentive and knowledgeable servers and a view that was simply stunning. All together it made for a super afternoon! We highly recommend this destination.

Yelp
We love visiting the Charlottesville area to tour the wineries and vineyards. We love to try new places each time, but Pippin Hill has become a spot we return to. The view from the porch is gorgeous, and the staff are so warm, inviting and friendly. And they actually have good wine! Their white wines are definitely better than the reds, but they're all quite good. They also serve some meats, cheeses, and other small bites that pair well.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds - well manicured landscape overlooking the vines, with hills all around. The restaurant features high ceiling dining room, banquet room and beautiful veranda. We appreciated the dog friendly staff. Lots of cold water for Crosby & Bono. The service was very good. Tess was attentive and knowledgeable, with helpful recommendations and answers to my questions on the grapes. Excellent food. We enjoyed the delicious Mediterranean chicken and the chorizo & shishito. Finally, the most important part - the wines. These wines were 100% Virginia grown and go head to head with my favorites from California. Loved the vignette, reserve Chardonnay, cab franc and red blend dubbed Bundoran Blue.
google avatar

Jahnay M.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a beautiful view overlooking the mountains with delicious food and wine! I stopped in for a visit this past July for my birthday and was not disappointed! The service was good and the people were friendly! I also love that they offer different areas to sit in. Did I mention that the scenery was breathtaking? I also love the pet friendly atmosphere! This would also be a beautiful location for a wedding!

Michael K.

Yelp
Pippin Hill has everything you want in a winery - excellent wine, friendly staff, and wonderful views. I tried a flight of red wine and was impressed with every single one. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about wine and happy to answer all of our questions. The winery is located on a beautiful property, so I'd recommend leaving enough time to walk around and take some photos.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED Pippin Hill. We heard about this gem from a local couple we met at our hotel bar (always listen to the locals!). It was hot but we still opted to sit on the veranda and sip on frosés ...loved it. We ordered the cheese board and beet hummus. Everything was perfect! Special shout out to Ellie, the best server ever!! And Sam, the hostess who arranged our seating. We will be back!!!!

Danielle A.

Yelp
The food is always consistently great at Pippin Hill. It's a beautiful location and the staff is always happy and fun. Every time we've gone (usually with guests from out of town) it's been a great experience. And major kudos to the people that keep the gardens looking so beautiful - we always look forward to seeing what's in bloom! Try to make your reservation ahead of time - on Resy!

Kevin S.

Yelp
PHF&V is one of those few locations that does well because of its focus upon hosting events, light fare food, and a picturesque setting. In addition to the main room, seating options are situated throughout the venue and grounds. Food is delicious and drink selections are tasteful. FOH Team is friendly and helpful. The servers are spread thin, thus there was a continuous rotation of staff assisting. Managers weren't as approachable nor did they seem to enjoy their job. One's bill can quickly add up. Parking is a bit of a mess. Rather than vineyard hopping, set aside the afternoon for your visit.

Yelp
I had the best cabernet franc at Mountain and Vine recently. You MUST try it!!! It won a gold medal.

Yelp
Gorgeous venue with excellent service. The food here was also amazing. We enjoyed the sliders and Brussels Sprouts. The wines were also good for an east coast winery! This place would be a beautiful venue for a wedding.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite vineyards in Charlottesville. Waiting a month for the perfect patio reservation is never a pain, in fact, it gives me something special to look forward to. This place is perfectly charming. I've always said I'm not the type of person who would want to spend too much money on a wedding. When I visit Pippin Hill I'm like FORGET THAT! Sure I'll sell my soul to get married here. All jokes aside, this place is pretty special. When you walk in you're surrounded by huge, gorgeous flowery bushes. The facade is idyllic and the mountains surrounding the vineyard are even more picturesque. Every memory I have here is a special one. You're bound to have a good time here. If you don't want to wait for a reservation, you are welcome to get a drink at the bar and picnic on the yard. There is also inside seating offered (you usually need a reservation for those spots on busier days). The first time I came here was for my anniversary. My partner and I got some yummy bites and enjoyed a wine flight. On my most recent trip here, I came with six girlfriends. Most of us got the white wine flight. We all agreed that the zero white was our favorite. Wandering around the grounds is a treat too. You can walk through their vegetable garden, meet chickens, and look at the wildflowers. I love this place so much. It's gorgeous, the service is great, the wine is just right, and the views are to die for.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful and the food and wine are delicious! We opted to just try a few wines, enjoy the scenery and acclaimed food menu, but you can do a tasting. They have a beautiful porch that spans the length of the building (in two sections), so there isn't a bad view anywhere. There is plenty of seating inside and event space as well. The tapas style is really nice since you are likely to have trouble deciding on just one item with the variety of ingredients and tastes. The only notable that would have been a problem for us is that 90 minute table limit. Had we had all day, you'd easily want to sit there and enjoy for hours. If you're winery hopping, it's totally fine. Go enjoy yourselves!!!

Yelp
My best friend and I were there yesterday, April 17th and were extremely excited about the visit. Heard wonderful things about Pippin. We are on a fun trip, visiting wineries and hiking. The venue, farm and views were beautiful and the wine was good. What was lacking terribly, was the customer service. Upon arrival, we did not feel welcomed...just another person who walked through the door....like a fast food restaurant. We don't need the red carpet treatment, but you come to a winery for the wonderful experience. We asked to be outside. We were quickly told about the open seating on the porch rules and that there is no food service with a server to the tables available. Who does that? We had to go back to the hostess stand and place an order. Then, they texted us when our food was ready and we picked up our "box of food" from a side location. Get your own paper plates and plastic utensils.... Really? That is absurd! We love fine wine and spend good money for the efforts of wineries and lovely wines- but this set up was disturbing. She acted like she was doing us a favor to bring us our bottle of wine to our table....huh??Talk about ruining the mood for a fun afternoon. How you treat a customer is number one. Everyone is an equal. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Great location. Fabulous food. Friend and I went here for a 1 pm lunch reservation. We sat inside, got a bottle of wine and lunch. We shared a Cuban sandwich and pickled veggies both of which were excellent. We ended with toffee carrot cake. Perfect. We shared a flight and then got a bottle of pinot. It was nice to drink there. Nothing I would take home especially at the price range. All in all, lovely place, great food and pretty good wine.

Yelp
Pippin Hill was the first stop on a wine tour for my friend. Upon arriving, my friend (the bride) was pulled aside and told that due to a contract clause with future Pippin Hill brides, she could not appear or present as a bride and so she had to take a simple "Bride" headband off. I'm sorry.... WHAT? What kind of bizarre rule is that? My friend celebrating a special milestone in her life detracts from someone else doing the same? One bride wouldn't be able to picture her magical day here because my friend is wearing a headband? This happened on International Women's Day, no less; though this rule is ridiculous no matter the day. Left a bitter taste that not even the just-fine Cab Franc could wash away.

Yelp
Pippen Hill is a lovely afternoon trip. We drove over from Lynchburg to enjoy an outdoor meal and samples of their wine. The atmosphere was beautiful, staff was great, and the food was very fresh! Loved everything about it!

Yelp
We celebrated my husband's birthday after Christmas here. We ordered some of everything and enjoyed every dish. Most of our party had a flight and enjoyed all of the offerings. My husband is not a white wine drinker but he loved theirs. So much so, that we took 2 bottles to go and our daughter, who had been to this winery before also took a bottle to go. We purchased the Petit Manseng and Chardonnay Reserve to go. When we left, we took in the amazing views of the vineyard. We had reserved a table inside bc it was a chilly rainy day but realized when we left that the best views are on the covered and heated veranda.

Yelp
Views and Ambiance were great! We had a really good time. Views of the mountains and countryside were wonderful.

Yelp
Service is warm, inviting, and just the right amount of attentiveness, considerate and thoughtful - really outstanding overall. Food is good - salad was fantastic. Wine is also really good - all we tasted were good but I liked the cab franc the best. View is breathtaking. Just felt like a family member being there and enjoyed it all around.
