"Downtown Berkeley cafe Piq, known for its large patio and Italian baked goods, closed abruptly over Thanksgiving. Plans are in place for a new Italian cafe, Passione Caffe, to open soon at the same location." - Janelle Bitker

Good selection of pastries and baked goods. They have a section upstairs with seating. Lots of students camp out here with their laptops. Coffee is a tad better than Starbucks

Best appetizer ever. The original taste of prosciutto with cheese in a just baked bread. They have a terrace outside and two levels. Nice place to have lunch and coffee!

Delicious bakery and coffee. Nice and charming serving. Recomend... the music could be more appropriate instead of the regular pop radio...

Overall a very nice place. The ham and cheese croissant that I ate was very tasty, so good that I forgot all about the price which seemed high at first. They have seats on the main floor, an upstairs area as well as outdoor seating. Good mix of young and old people here. Lots of pastries and drinks but the main food selection is a bit limited. They do have a pasta of the day.

Newly expanded, menu selection simple and very well done. Staff helpful. The upstairs had many people on laptops while downstairs was more conversation. The breads and rolls outstanding. I had sandwich with heirloom tomatoes and provolone and it was excellent. Good place for a simple but satisfying lunch.

Had the vanilla orange organic tea. It is a wonderful blend. Also great if you like to add soy milk to your tea. Can't beat the price either, with free resteep if desired. Pastries are great as well. Didn't try the food. Selection looked good but a little pricey. Overall great place, great customer service, and plenty of tables. This place is great for meetings since it's right off of BART in downtown Berkeley. Pricey compared to what you can get nearby, but usually better than nearby coffee shops too. Plenty of seating inside and great outside. Food is pretty good, and they have fresh squeezed orange juice. You get the occasional homeless person (it *is* downtown) who will cause a slight disturbance, but it's typically not troublesome, and you can buy a snack there to help someone out if they're in need.

I just love the service , the owner is a gem, as is the manager. Friendly, hospitable people in a challenging town to own a business. The food is wonderful and authentic , the coffee is another point in which the owner takes great pride and shows his affection for his customers and his craft. A must if you're in downtown Berkeley.
