Pistolas Del Sur is a fantastic addition to the South Philly food scene and a worthy extension of the Pistolas brand. Located right on Passyunk Ave, it brings the same energy and quality that fans of the original locations have come to expect, without feeling like a copy-paste chain. The space is vibrant but laid-back, with a good mix of bar seating and tables, making it equally suited for casual dinners or group outings. Service is consistently friendly and efficient. The food here is excellent across the board. The burritos are easily the highlight—massive, packed with flavor, and perfectly balanced in texture. Whether you're going with carnitas, chicken tinga, or their seared shrimp option, everything tastes fresh and carefully made. Their tacos, nachos, and house salsas all follow suit with bold seasoning and high-quality ingredients. The drinks menu also holds up, with a strong showing of tequilas and margaritas that hit right. Takeout is handled well, too. They pack everything with care, label it clearly, and keep hot and cold items separate—no soggy tacos or leaking salsa cups. It’s rare to find that level of attention to detail in to-go orders, but Pistolas Del Sur nails it. Overall, it’s another win for the Pistolas group—great food, great service, and a welcome new presence on Passyunk.

Stumbled across this place due to its late hours. I had no complaints about the food. Even the wings were good. They also still served us 35 mins prior to closing.

Google
Very cute place. The outdoor seating is nice. Paloma was very good and the tequila selection is nice. Birria tacos were very good and their house made hot sauce was so good we got some to go. Mahi tacos were just ok. The pieces of fish were so big that they overwhelmed the taco. You couldn't taste any of the other components. We will definitely go here again though.

The energy here is contagious—between inventive tacos and an awesome beer selection, there’s never a dull moment. The staff make you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. Great spot for a fun night out.

Was exploring the East Passyunk Ave and landed at Pisstola'a for dinner. I knew they had several versions of ceviche on the menu. Selected the Ceviche Mixto. Plenty of lime juice, heat from Serrano peppers. Served with corn tortilla chips. I like mild to medium spice...this had more heat than I prefer...but I did finish it...very flavorful. Also ordered tortilla soup, also very flavorful. That I could not finish. Just too spicy for me. The chips were super crunchy...I Prefer thinner chips. I would go back, everything was very fresh, served fast and they have a great menu. Just need to dial down the Serrano usage for me.

Needed a place to duck into for an hour or so and they were very accommodating. We ordered the papusas and chips and salsa and both were very good. Drinks we ordered were also very refreshing and they had an extensive selection. The menu and reviews made us want to for a full meal.

Google
Great food. Delicious. Unique options and flavors, it's a great taco place. The songs playing in the background were excellent, and the artist decor was great too. The server was also great, we went around 11:30 AM. Most importantly, the food was very good. I'd highly recommend. It is a little pricey, but worth it for the quality. Plus considering inflation right now, it's a pretty decent price.

Yelp

Yelp
These Mexican seafood devours come from a South Philly favorite @pistolasdelsur on Passyunk Avenue. This establishment has both indoor and outdoor dining while also serving up some of South Philly's best, Mexican food. Their bathrooms are clean. Their staff is very welcoming and very and easy to talk to you when it comes to learning your way around the menu. they have small little boost to eat in for you and your friends or maybe a date night. The bar is very unique with top shelf spirits. While here I ordered the tuna, which was very fresh and simply amazing. If you ever find yourself wanting some great Mexican food please check out @pistolasdelsur yes please tell them I sent you lol ‍ - Shimmy #foodie #food #foodporn #foodblogger #foodphotography #foodstagram #philadelphia #philly #water #tuna #bathroom #clean #vibes

Yelp
Food is AMAZING!!!. I ordered from DoorDash. I had the Shrimp tempura tacos and Pistola's Wings. Everything was great!

Yelp
Super chill place to sit at the bar, listen to SZA, and watch the game. I like that the TV is on mute because I'd rather listen to music than baseball. The wings, corn, and plantains are all excellent. Plenty of seating on Sunday night when the Eagles fans are elsewhere. Happy Hour menu has awesome deals. Will be back for sure.

Yelp
Really enjoyed Pistola's Del Sur in pretty much every sense. Tacos were good (both land and sea), had a tasty smaller plate as well, service was quick and friendly, vibes were lively and fun. Only thing preventing a 5-star review here would be my not testing Pistola's to its full capacity-- there was a whole bar, lots of cool drink options, burritos, various guacs, etc. and I just didn't have a chance to try them. Looking forward to coming back and sampling everything else-- confident this review will be increased to a 5 when I've had the chance to try it all

Yelp
Very tasty tacos here, good prices for them especially during happy hour. Nice staff really quick. The churros are also good (but the dipping sauce doesn't quite match). Overall really good food. Thanks

Yelp
Daughter go to is the veggie burrito I love the veggie taco/ or sea taco / Brussels taco. Last time i ordered the rice bowl and was pleasantly surprised- (didnt like the big onions) Love a traditional margarita! Service was good.

Yelp
Ugh just love this bar. My favorite place on east pass to watch a game and chill. The food is SO good. The service, especially if you sit at the bar, is amazing. Margaritas are perfect. Never had a bad bite here. So happy it's in the neighborhood.

Yelp
i stopped in and there was a barbie event (halloween weekend) - which was pretty cool. they had themed cocktails, a barbie box for photos and were giving away prizes for costumes. i ordered a rice bowl with brisket and brussel sprouts - holy hell it was delicious ! and a great price for a large amount of food. the bartender rachael was awesome and extremely nice.

Yelp
We came to eat here in 2019 while visiting Philadelphia. I don't know how it is now but I found some pics in my camera roll and remembered how delicious it was. If I'm ever back in the area I would definitely give it another try.

Yelp
Came for happy hour. The items that qualified were limited so basically ordered from the regular menu. The margaritas were good, not too strong and not watered down. The Korean beef tacos and nachos were nice.

Yelp
Love this place. Whenever I come here the staff is incredible and service is topnotch. And I have never had a bad meal. The tuna avocado is one of the best things you can get anywhere in the city. The wings are bomb. The tacos are delicious. And the margaritas pack quite a punch! Nice outdoor seating. The bar inside is a bit small but clutch if you can get a seat. The interior is straight forward but nice. The prices are comparable. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Came here with some friends on Sunday evening and was glad I did! We ordered chips and guac and usually restaurants are pretty stingy with their guac but there was a decent portion - we even had to ask for more chips. We ordered tacos - there's 2 to an order and unfortunately, you can't mix and match. I ordered the spicy pork tacos and was surprised to see how big they were, they were also very filling. I also ordered a side of rice and beans - also was a decent portion for a side. They had this great hot sauce, I think it was homemade but it was so good and spicy. Would love to come back to try their burritos and drinks! They also checked for our vaccination cards and verified with ID even before it was mandated in Philly - made me feel a little bit safe with Omicron on the hunt!

Yelp
We went for happy hour, we hung out at the bar! It was happy hour until 7PM which was awesome. We got the bao buns and brussel sprouts tacos - so yummy. The pico was really fresh and delicious too.

Yelp
After hearing mixed reviews, my boyfriend and I wanted to give this place a chance, so this past weekend, we finally did!!! We were lucky enough to be seated at one of their outdoor tables. Usually, when eating out, we have problems because of our food allergies, but our waiter, Michael, was very knowledgeable of the menu and let us know what we can and can't have. I had the Mahi Mahi Tacos, and my boyfriend has the salmon tacos without the special hot sauce. Also, the Pistachio guacamole is to die for. 10/10 would recommend.

James W.

Yelp
As all have noted, the food is top notch!!! I can't speak for servers/bartenders other than Kate but should you be so lucky to have her tend to you you will find that she is exceptional and amazingly efficient to the degree that I thought she was probably one of the owners LOL!!!, of which I queried, and learned she is not (though she should be - given this lady a raise!!) Thanks Kate!!!! James

Yelp
Good drinks and food. Covered Outdoor seating which is a plus. Happy hour is a great deal too.

Yelp
I've been living in the area for a little over two years. I have heard people raving about this place. I finally pulled the trigger as my sister and niece flew into town for a visit from Florida. Figured why not make it a girls night! WORST mistake EVER! Service was horrible and we were the only ones seated inside. We had to literally flag the server down for attention and the food was not that great! I don't get what all the rave reviews were about! Definitely would NOT recommend!

Yelp
Totally blown away by Pistola's!! YUM! We've driven passed almost every day since it opened and never really thought to stop by after not really remembering Jose Pistola's (named for the owner Joe Gunn-get it? Joe/Jose Gunn/Pistola), it's brother shop in Center City, to be that memorable. Then again, we only went for drinks there. But when we were looking to dine al fresco and not travel too far over the weekend, we decided to give it another go. Sooooo glad we did! The food is newer Mexican and the menu is quite interesting and very plant-based friendly! We loved the crispy brussel sprout tacos with sweet honey that balanced the fried jalapeños so well! These were outstanding! The falafel tacos were such a fun fusion! The jalapeño yogurt does pack quite a punch, maybe a hair too much for kiddos, nevertheless, the stuffed tacos in a fresh delicious shell, topped with feta was well received! Their guacs are TO. DIE. FOR. We opted for the toasted pistachio variety, although the pomegranate was so intriguing. (We'll save that for next time!). It was unreal! The goat cheese is in chunks and can easily be removed if you're sharing with friends who are dairy-free. The lobster tacos has big meaty chunks of lobster over a thin layer of black bean purée, with some corn, slivered radish, fresh avocado slices with a spicy chili sauce. Hubs really enjoyed them! The garlic papas fritas and elotes corn were great, inexpensive side options for the kiddos, as were the Philly pretzel bites with queso on special for just $5 during the Phillies game! The draft list was super solid, with some local gems, and the blackberry marg was perfect. It wasn't too sweet and filled with just the right amount of tequila! All and all we were all very impressed. There's some fun American/Mexican dishes also, such as hotdogs and veggie Beyond burgers too. *There's also the option to sub soy chorizo for regular meat when possible for any vegans and vegetarians! Very cool! The have happy hour specials, game day specials and music trivia on Tuesdays we're definitely looking forward to hitting up! Bring quarters for old school meters! Coming at an off time if you want to dine al fresco is definitely the way to go! We found 3pm on the weekend right in between lunch and dinner to be the easiest. The outdoor tables are slightly covered so if it drizzles, there's no issue. Such a winner and a great place for groups, as well as families in the East Passyunk district!

Yelp
Stopped in here for quick craving of tacos! They have fantastic guacamole! I got the Mahi mahi tacos which were good! There was only 2 and at first I didn't think it was enough but surprisingly enough it was! The ambiance is nice however it was a little too dark for my liking, food is good though I'd definitely go back for another tacos hankering!

Yelp
What troglodyte could give this place anything less than 5 stars? Haven't had a bad thing on this menu. Ever. This place elevates traditional Latin food with creative twists. Always something new to discover. Don't listen to the mediocre opinions on here. They know not what they eat.

Yelp
Pistola's is one of the best Mexican restaurants around, and one of the better bars in the area! They have a lot of options for indoor and outdoor seating; and they always seem to have room for big groups. Their margaritas are amazing. I could share one pitcher with just one other friend, but they are strong! The pitchers are definitely good enough for 4 people. Their food is great as well. Nachos and grilled shrimp tacos are some of my favorites. Their quesadilla is surprisingly really tasty and flavorful! Their portion sizes are reasonable too. Overall, a good deal and a big restaurant to fit all your friends. An amazing place to have a fun night.

Yelp
I came here with two friends on Fat Tuesday and we had a great experience! We walked in about 6:45pm and realized that Quizzo had just started. We missed the first round but decided to join in late for fun. We also placed an order for a margarita pitcher ($10 off!) to take advantage of happy hour before it ended. I wasn't super hungry so I just got the Chopped Salad (iceberg lettuce, baby arugula, corn, tomato, queso fresco, pickled red cabbage, tortilla chips, and avocado ranch dressing). It was delicious and really hit the spot! My friend got churros and I had one of hers - they were delicious! A lot of times, churros can be heavy and oily, but these were light. The chocolate dipping sauce they came with was a perfect accompaniment. I definitely plan to return to try some more dishes on the menu!

Yelp
More opportunities to visit a Pistola's, olé! Pistola's Del Sur translates to Pistola's of the South. For those of us who don't venture to East Passyunk often, it's right off the Snyder spot of the BSL and at the beginning of all the dining and nightlife action. It has the same greats of the other Pistola's locations: delicious food and stellar craft beer. They carried a Cantillon and other great gems for Philly Beer Week for goodness sake! I thought the restrooms were a seriously upgrade over Jose's as well. I love me some Jose Pistola's for sure, but this bathroom was on the ground floor and so clean, trendy looking. Even if you haven't been to another Pistola's before, the bottom line is that they have an excellent variety of non-pretentious, but quality Mexican food. When I need a burrito fix, I think Pistola's first. I probably won't make the trek south frequently without a rare beer incentive, but I'm thrilled to know that the opportunity is there.

Yelp
Excellent excellent excellent! Thank you to Adam, 'Beach', and Mr. Bashir (a patron) for the wonderful experience. I learned a heck of a lot about mezcal. The drinks were great, and the food just TOO GOOD!!!! The food blew me away. Simple Spanish cuisine jacked up to 11. It was everything I wanted in a dining experience and then some. We ordered the spicy tuna guac and ceviche mixto. I could have stopped there seeing it was divine, but we then got the crab enchiladas which took it over the top. Didn't even have room for dessert. All in all we will be back. This location is near several public transport and car service stops. So nothing will stop me from another margarita the next time...

Yelp
I came here yesterday for lunch. I'm glad they offer both their regular and brunch menu during brunch hours because I was in the mood for tacos. We celebrated National Margarita Day with Blueberry Margaritas which were so tasty with the perfect amount of tequila. The oysters are an awesome deal at $1 each. They switch up where the oysters come from and as of yesterday they came from Massachusetts. They varied in size and were so good. Next time I'm going for at least a full dozen. The tacos were so delicious. I had both the spicy pork tacos and pork belly bahn mi. The pork was cooked perfectly and so tender. I no longer live in the city but the food and drinks are a good enough excuse to make the trip down 76. I'm glad they are making good use of this location as it's a good spot down Passyunk and you can usually nab a street spot. I had no issues finding a street spot practically across the street on a Saturday. The service was great and the waitress knew her stuff when it came to recommendations.
google avatar

Yelp
AMAZING! My friend and I were biking when my peddle fell off in front of this place. As fate has it, I was meant to go here. After some food and a pitcher of margaritas were both die-hard fans. We are coming back for those $10 off happy hour margarita pitchers! Booyah!

Yelp
My first visit to Pistola's Del Sur. I stopped in for Happy Hour dinner and drinks recently before a Flyers game because my usual place was closed for an internal event. This is a great addition to the East Passyunk district and a good place for drinks and small plates. Be sure to check out the Happy hour specials on the boards when you visit. I especially enjoyed the nachos, pork belly steamed buns and the Freedom tacos. These are some definite must-try items on the menu. They have outside seating, bar seating and table seating available. Parking is street. Looking forward to my next visit to try the other items on their menu and some of the awesome sounding margaritas they have on the menu.

Paulena S.

Yelp
Had a craving for ceviche so went here. Standard service. Tuna ceviche was literally soup. It had six pieces of tuna in it. The only good thing about the meal was our beers.
google avatar

Neelam P.

Yelp
Kid friendly place to grab some Mexican. The space is huge and loud, which is perfect for vocal/overexcited kids. I wish they had more vegetarian menu options, especially the tacos. We tried the nachos which were pretty good, a tad bit too salty. The corn is really good and the kids quesadillas are a good portion size. Tons of drinks available if that's your thing. This would probably be a good happy hour spot too.
google avatar

Danica S.

Yelp
We wanted to do outdoor dining for the first time post vax but so many places were full! We ended up grabbing a table here, and we did appreciate how spaced out everything was. Indoor dining has also great separation. We got the goat cheese guacamole along with 2 burritos. Portions were a bit small for the price, and food was not bad, just not spectacular. Would go back for drinks and apps with friends, just not for a full course dinner. Service was great!

Yelp
I've been eating here since moving to Philly 3 years ago. Yummy guacamole, margaritas, beef burrito and brussel sprout burrito (amazing!).

Yelp
I've gotta give it up to Pistola's.... just wow... hands down new favorite spot for $1 oysters. Made it here just in time for the last few minutes of happy hour and ordered everything that sounded delicious at the time. Had the tuna and salmon belly tiradito Steamed buns and pistolas burger cooked to preferred rarity . All I've gotta say is... I'm gonna be a regular here lol.
google avatar

Morgan K.

Yelp
I lived above pistola for two years and this place is truly the best. Def gained a couple lbs from their spicy pork burritos but it was so worth it lol. Honesty their wait time for takeout is top notch. It's always ready when I get there and the food is awesome. Even after moving I still consider myself a regular haha. Really recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not gonna beat around the bush. This is the best "Mexican" joint in all of Philly. Don't bother trying to dispute that...go try it for yourself. Yes, I put quotes around Mexican. There's a bit a fusion here so it's not traditional Mexican. Everything we ordered was good, full of flavour and even the presentation of the food was pretty (don't let my crappy pictures throw you off). We debated staying longer so we can digest and just keep trying other food but figured it was easier to just come back another day. Lots of variety on the menu...bring your vegan, vegetarian and meat eating friends. If beer is your jam, they have a ton to choose from. They have 4-5 wines on tap as well. Service was excellent. I'm always nervous when they don't write anything down but she was all over it. The manager was very visible and kept checking on everyone like we were guests in his house. The bathrooms are clean. Street parking (feed the meter or you WILL get a ticket) can be a bit of a pain but we found a spot without issue. You should absolutely go here. Go often. Let's all become regulars together.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Mexican Street grilled corn w/chipotle mayo and cojita cheese. A bit too chipotle mayo for me, but it was very tasty with amazing starchy corn flavor. Not a mayo fan, but the addition of the chipotle got me over that. I would order this for sure if I could get light mayo. Short rib tacos. Big chunk of beef short rib and pickled onions. Great flavor in the beef. Korean pork tacos served with mini short riblets on the side. I didn't taste this, but my daughter said they were amazing. I love Asian pear and that was added to the beef. Chopped salad Arugula, cabbage and lettuce mix, dice tomatoes, corn, cojita, diced fried flour tortilla, pickled red onions. I chose a side of avocado ranch and sherry vinaigrette. The 2 dressings were great together. Sitting outside was a great level of entertainment w/people wat

Yelp
My past review was removed. So I'll make it more clear. I saw a mouse while eating here. Can't imagine how the kitchen even looks. Very over priced. Food was very sloppy and tasteless. Not to mention I have to show my vax card but the bartender can work maskless. Didn't check the woman's vax card when she entered because she knew her. Didn't know rules work like that. This restaurant also made nasty comments about my boss. Post was removed but it's still the fact it was ever said. I will make sure 4500 local 98 members do not go to this place. YELP HURRY UP AND DELETE THIS REVIEW. This is just my opinion.

Yelp
The first week back to real life after the holidays was definitely a struggle, so when Friday finally rolled around, my boyfriend and I were more than ready for a fun night out. With the keyword being fun, it didn't take us long to decide to check out Pistola's Del Sur for dinner and drinks! We walked in at about 8 pm to Pistola's new location in Passyunk. We were immediately seated at one of the bar tops near the bar and right outside the kitchen. We got a perfect view of the TV that was playing the Sixers game - we were all about that! Prior to even looking through the drink menu, I knew how I wanted to start the night off - a spicy mango margarita! It's my favorite at the other Pistola's locations, but unfortunately, they didn't have it at this one. :( While they did offer a mango margarita, they didn't have spicy mango. After double checking with our waitress, she informed me that although they didn't have it, she could create a similar version so I decided to take her up on it. Although it wasn't exactly what I'm used to, it was good. As for food, my boyfriend and I got the octopus and cactus salsa. Although we are usually all about that guac, this unique dish was calling our name. The octopus was delicious and we were both raving about the cactus. Although I'm glad we branched out a bit from our usual, I did miss the guac. I now know not to make that mistake again - ALWAYS GET THAT GUAC!!! As for my entree, I got the spicy pork tacos which came with grilled pineapple, kimchi, and cilantro. So tasty! Very flavorful and I loved the sweet and spicy combination. The tacos were filled to the BRIM with pork making them pretty messy. The soft tortilla wasn't really holding everything together so I ended up using a fork during most of my meal. Still, the tacos were very good so no complaints on my end. There's no dainty way of eating tacos anyway! After our appetizer and entrees, we were pretty full and passed on dessert. We did have room for one more drink though! This time, I tried the El Diablo marg while my boyfriend stuck to beer. My second drink was so-so. Although there isn't anything particularly bad to say about it, it just wouldn't be my first pick. Our waitress, Lindsey, was awesome! Super energetic and funny, too! She was attentive throughout the entire night which was much appreciated. She also let us in on a little tip: did you know the freedom tacos are HALF PRICE on Sundays?! What a great way of guaranteeing a solid Sunday funday! I'm sure I'll be taking up on that sometime soon considering the freedom tacos are my boyfriends favorite ones! I would highly recommend checking this place out, whether on a weeknight or weekend! Make sure you go in hungry and ready to devour some delicious Mexican fare and margs!

Yelp
I'm not sure i'm qualified to really rate these guys, as i only had a couple of glasses of wine. I did enjoy the fact that the wine was "on draught", which gives you a better wine opportunity at similar bar prices. Good pour. Maybe next time i'll hit the apps...
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Came here for the tacos, but was blown away by the guac! If I had to rate my food, I'd give 2 and a half stars to the Korean Rib tacos I had (the pico was good, but the meat was pretty rubbery and not very good). The downside to the pico was that it was rather watery, making the taco basically fall apart the second I picked it up, which was a bit frustrating (and is the reason why you will find traditional tacos with two tortillas). The spicy tuna guacamole gets five stars from me, though. Extremely tasty, and something I'd definitely go back for. Only downside was the small portion of chips, would have loved more!

Yelp
While visiting Philly a friend recommended we try this place out. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we could not dine in unless we wanted to wait 30+ minutes so we decided to just get togo. The staff was super friendly and accommodating and we got our order in about 15 minutes. We got the chicken tacos, 2 orders of the corn (so delicious!!), a burrito, churros and I personally got the salad with shrimp added. All the food was super flavorful and we devoured it. Best part to top off the meal was the blackberry margarita I was also able to get Togo. I hope to come back again next trip to Philly and hopefully can dine in.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of the Pistola's restaurants and Pistola's Del Sur is no exception. We popped in after a killer Eagles win with some friends from out of town - San Diego, to be exact. These folks know their tacos. We shared an order of nachos with beef and the freedom tacos. I think these might be my favorite nachos in Philly. The toppings were adequately dispersed across the chips, and the taste was great. I'm also a huge fan of those freedom tacos and they did not disappoint. The San Diegans were impressed. Our server, Becca, was incredibly sweet and went out of her way to make us happy. After receiving our order of wings, she recognized right away that the wings were not well-done as we had requested. She swooped them away and we received a plate of well-done wings a few minutes later. I do agree with Jaime S that the margs are on the sweet side. For this reason, I'll remind myself to stick with beer. They always have a well-balanced menu of crafts and even a couple light options for when you just can't do another heavy brew. Super pumped about this addition to East Passyunk Ave and looking forward to many more visits.

Yelp
Gotta represent Jose Pistolas at their newest location in south Philly, Pistolas del Sur! I finally made my way down there because I love the original location so much. Well Del Sur is just as amazing. Delicious nachos, guacamole (love that spicy tuna guac!) tacos, love it all. And they even have the buns that I love so much. Cool atmosphere too. Even better, the prices here seem to be a tad cheaper. The guac was $1-2 cheaper, margaritas were cheaper, and there is some damn delicious rare craft beers on tap that were also great prices. The best thing is buck a shuck oysters all day every day. I hate to give away the secret, then they stop doing this, but for now, it's true and oysters are $1! Amazing. Highly recommended, this is the 3rd establishment now by the Jose's Pistolas team and I love all 3! Cheers!

Yelp
This is my second visit and I've been disappointed both times. I had high hopes based on my experiences with the NoLibs and center city locations, but the Passyunk location just doesn't live up. The service is a little snooty, the drinks are so strong all you can taste is alcohol, and the food is the single redeeming quality. I want to like it, but alas.

Yelp
If I could give less then 1 star I would. Terrible food. Terrible service. Dirty. Overpriced. Make sure to check your bill to make sure it's correct.
