The Best Restaurants to Try Between Los Angeles and Palm Springs | Eater LA

"Located inside the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa complex is a nostalgic 1950s-style diner popular among truckers for its steak and eggs, fish and chips, and Frisco melt — the latter served on Parmesan-crusted sourdough with grilled onions, Thousand Island, and a seared beef patty. If traveling with kids, the little ones can eat well and stretch their legs before hopping back on the road. The red leather seats and checkered flooring will bring you back in time with them." - Mona Holmes

Google
Can’t honestly say enough about the food and the service here. I had the chicken fried steak and it was the tastiest and definitely the biggest one I’ve ever had. All the food here is absolutely amazing! Well worth pulling off the freeway for and really easy to enter the old/ little Morongo casino/bowling alley building. PLENTY of different sized vehicle parking spaces here. You definitely get what you pay for here!!!!!

Stopped for the Big Rig Special. Great deal! Hash browns were good. Eggs cooked perfect. Bacon was good, but the sausage had a weird taste. Pancakes were pretty dry. Service was good and friendly. Nice and clean! We will come back and try the Cobb salad for sure!

Google
Luke warm, gristley chicken rounds out this otherwise underwhelming Cobb Salad. And the ranch sucks - how you gonna run an Americana diner and have crappy ranch dressing? Worst salad I've had in months.

Shauna was just awesome. Our first time here on a Sunday in quite a long time. And we are used to our regular servers. But oh my gosh, Shauna was a complete new breath of fresh air. She really watched out for her customers. We ordered a meal, but with something left off and the cook messed the order up. And she came back and apologized and said she was having them make it correctly. She was zooming all around to make sure everyone got their orders. She really does take of her customers. We will be looking for Shauna in the future. And if Shauna is reading this, thank you for your kind words and your great customer service.

Went here on 9/12/25 and got the Char-Broiled Ny Steak Mashed potato, seasonal veggies, served with a pat of garlic butter. The Food Was Fire And Service Was great my server Ivoney was amazing & Beautiful

Google
Give it a one star as I was never informed I could not eat here due to having 2 small children and they are not 18 over. I drove from the other side of the morongo casino as I was told by a manager how good this place would be and my child would enjoy their delicious milkshakes, but its unfortunate that we weren't able to try it.

Google
I'll tell all my fellow truckers right now; this a hidden honey hole of a diner. The best coffee and breakfast is GREAT; top notch & the diner bar is walk in seating! This easily better than any rest area of travel center along I-10 in California. Did I say GREAT BREAKFAST! ☕️🍽

Yelp
Food:Amazing Service: My special migraibe T that Clide the bartender made me. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. Very polite and punctual. Call him DR. Clide. He is very good at working in a fast paste environment its very bussy fridays. Promotion time. Give him A RAISE OR A BONUS BECAUSE HE IS DEFINATELY OVER QUALIFIED FOR HIS CURRENT POSITION. Yelp
Is this one of Americas great Diners???? Put on the brakes because it is not. But it is a good Casino diner! Pit Stop services the small older side of Morongo Casino in Cabazon. The side with bowling bingo ad Poker. The menu is big and the do offer daily specials including a daily $27 Prime Rib dinner. I had the Frisco burger and that was a great patty melt with a expertly executed Parmesan crust on sour dough bread. The pre-fab coated and seasoned fries were very good, hot, crisp and just minutes out of the freezer. Im not complaining but my friends were, they didnt like this style of French fry and thought they tasted fishy. The Ice-cold Onion rings were immediately sent back to the kitchen and fresh hot order arrived in about 15 minutes. Service was good and yes we would eat here again on our next visit to Morongo bingo, because it's the only option.

Yelp
WOW, great experience for brunch. A warm welcome and friendly smile by supervisor Karla and host Cory, who sat us down to our table. Had Lola for our waitress who had taken all our orders . Requested not to overcooked wings and side salad to used romaine lettuce. And especially make sure on our New York Steak to be Rare & Medium Rare. All the food came out perfectly made per our request, perfectly seasoned, not salty. When our food came out , assisted by Tania, her coworker. Loved seeing "TEAMWORK." Loved how they keep restaurant clean, sanitized, and always organized. WOW! The biggest Chicken Fried Steak and Hashbrowns in town with a side of two eggs, sourdough toast for $19. My youngest son enjoyed every piece of it. I asked a piece to taste it was so good. My husband & I had the New York Steak one. Rare other one Medium Rare both made just the way we wanted cooked perfectly as per our ordered. Both tater tots made crispy & chicken wings not overcooked. With a side of veggies, I loved all we ordered. Shout out to the chefs and line cooks who prepared all our food, which was perfectly seasoned ,cooked, made just the way we wanted. Highly recommend, and we will be back when around the area. Thank you again to Karla, Cory, Tania, and last but never forgotten, Lola. All of you made our brunch an enjoyable and all your friendly smile, an upbeat personality radiated to my family and I. Made our day :)

Yelp
The restaurant is attractive and has a cool vintage look. The hostess was nice. I would have loved to give this place high marks but I was really disappointed with the quality of the food. I ordered the special of the day- Cajun catfish with veggies plus a side order of loaded baked potato. Because the potato was ordered to go, I opted to have the toppings placed in separate containers instead of directly on the potato. When I got home, I was unable to eat the potato. It looked old and smelled foul. Most people probably wouldn't have noticed because loaded potatoes already have their toppings on. As for the fish and veggies, they were okay. I wish whoever supervises the kitchen would pay attention to the quality of food that is being served before presenting it to consumers. . Would I return? No

Yelp
Had to stop in from a trip to Palm Springs for a medical procedure where I couldn't eat since yesterday afternoon. The Pit Stop provided the perfect solution with their bacon barbecue burger and their famous onion rings. They have yet to fail me in anything that I have ordered. The service is great and I'll will most likely be back again to try another dish! Sorry no photos this time, I was ravenous!

Yelp
This is easy off and on the 10. If you're hungry, don't pass this up. Easy parking too! You'll pull up to the old Morongo Casino but it's not what you think... You don't have to be a gambler to make this great pit stop! Or go ahead and gamble in this small, clean and friendly casino. The Pit Stop diner is straight ahead as you come in the door. Enjoy sweet, attentive service by "Lola", in her sparkling clean 50s diner, Pick your spot and get ready to enjoy some great food. Im a catfish aficionado, on my way to Texas for the real thing and found it right here! Texas style hush puppies, best crispy fries you've ever had, excellent fresh coleslaw, and... fried catfish! The catfish has a light crispy, crunchy cornmeal breading, fried to perfection, with high quality "clean" tender catfish. "Clean" means it doesn't taste like a bottom dweller, which it is! Hubby loved his "Big Rig" $10 breakfast with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes. Even the coffee was above board, fresh and rich coffee flavor. See you soon Lola, on our way back!

Yelp
Driving back from Palm Springs, we were done with late night fast food for dinner. Few choices for a sit down but the Pit Stop Diner was open. Located inside Morongo Casino, it is on the casino floor. It has an extensive menu and there kinda funny to hear the ka-chning of the machines while were eating. The food was tasty, good portion size and filling. Service was friendly and efficient. Our server tried to help us save money by promoting their rewards program. Now we know where to go if we want to enjoy a sit down meal.

Yelp
Pit Stop Diner exceeded my expectations! Going into a casino for brunch.. set the bar low. I was pleasantly surprised with my meal. Portions were large, selection was wide enough, and service was all kind. My friends and I weren't distracted by the sound of slot machines nearby. We even enjoyed the throwback tunes playing on the diner speakers.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to this diner for years now and I love it, the food is good and the service is great, always friendly wait staff. Also, if you play poker make sure to rack up enough points to use at the diner, for every hour of poker you play it's $0.50 to your players card, trust me if you play a ton of poker the points really add up fast. Check this place out if you're ever in the area.

Lesley R.

Yelp
No kids allowed! Very unfortunate. Took our business elsewhere. Casino should really update this I mean come on we are going to sit and eat not gamble.
google avatar

Vanessa G.

Yelp
The Pitstop is a wonderful little diner located in the "Casino Morongo" section of Morongo Casino. This is in the smaller building adjacent to the main casino. There are some slot machines and a small bar as you walk in, and then you see the diner. The breakfasts were top-notch. I enjoyed my "build your own omelet." I was happy there was turkey sausage, as many restaurants do not carry that. My mom ordered a ham steak with eggs. I didn't snap a picture, but her ham was as big as steak and had a perfect char grill. Everything was yummy, and I even got to enjoy a Morongo Mule adult beverage. Service was friendly, efficient, and with a smile. This will definitely be our regular diner anytime we are out in this area.

Yelp
I was surprised by the ratings of this place. Food was ok but not something to write about. Wanted a shake since it was a diner but they didn't have any shakes. If we weren't so hungry, we would have tried elsewhere. So we took a chance. Staff was super friendly and attentive so that upped the stars. I won't be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and food. I think they have Thanksgiving turkey dinner around which is rad.
google avatar

Dena G.

Yelp
Pit Stop Diner is a hidden gem at Morongo. If the line is long at Good Times Cafe -- or even if it's not -- bail out and come on over to Pit Stop Diner in the "Old Morongo" casino. It is real. It is solid. It is yummy. It is not crowded! Staff is great! Service with a smile.
google avatar

Joshua C.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place I was welcomed with a smile and the food was very delicious everyone here is very friendly highly recommend and they have parking for truckers too Thank you to Tania for taking care of me
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
The food is typical diner food and is actually really tasty. They actually have daily specials so you can save some money. I had the fried chicken sandwich with onion rings, good stuff. My wife recommends the French dip sandwich with tater tots. Can't complain about the service we're always treated well and always leave a good tip. It's hard to make a living after Covid. Pit Stop is good stuff.

Yelp
The Pit Stop Diner over at the old Casino Morongo (just tram ride from the resort, see the valet) has a menu very much like Good Times but with more items. I think the prices are slightly lower too. We got there around 11 AM and the place only had a few patrons. Our friendly server came right away & took our drink orders. We wanted the Mangocart Micheladas but they were out of Mangocart so we got Modelo. After getting our Micheladas, we ordered. Cheeseburger & salad for my husband, breakfast sandwich with bacon on sourdough & hashbrowns for me. When the server was about to set down my hashbrowns she noticed they were pale so she asked if I wanted them crispier. It's like she read my mind. She took them back & had them browned up beautifully. The sandwich was loaded with bacon & the eggs had perfectly cooked yolks. Soft but not runny. My husband said the burger was exactly what he'd wanted. Nothing fancy, just a good ol' cheeseburger with iceburg lettuce, tomatoes & onion. The only negative would be the wait time for our food, given that there were so few people in the diner.

Yelp
I always order food before bingo, and spend a lot of money. Loved the bottles of water that Matt would bring me and others. Today March 18th I went to the Pit stop diner and ordered, David the manager was rude and disrespectful! I ordered and tip the nice lady. I won't be back due to David's rudeness. I enjoy Matt, because I ask him what he recommends. Boy does he come thru! I've had salads with Phili meat( yummy) as other things from the menu. He is golden for the pit stop. P.S I give Matt 5 stars and David zero stars! Never order the tortilla soup just GROSS

Yelp
The Manager Kristine is Awesome! The Food is pretty good and reasonable. Thanks for that.

Yelp
First thing I noticed was this place is very clean..floors, tables, glasses, silverware, plates, etc....The food itself was decent...I got the Big Rig breakfast special...The watiress was excellent and very friendly...No complaints...Would return again.
google avatar

Yelp
Not cheap and ok quality. Not an inspired nor scratch cooked kitchen. Just heat and serve standard restaurant supply basic fare. Friendly and clean. Get your order in completely first chance because the server probably won't be back even if you're the only occupied table. Forget a coffee or water refill.

Christina I.

Yelp
Had dinner here last night. The teriyaki chicken sandwich is amazing! Came back for breakfast today. Kelly and Lola were wonderful. So friendly, and accommodating. King waffle was a treat. Belgian waffle with bacon bits, bananas, candied pecans, and a peanut butter sauce. Delicious we will definitely be back
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Seated relatively quickly and order taken but it's a bit of a wait for the food even with only 2 other tables occupied. I'd guess the kitchen is serving food to other parts of the casino for it to take that long. The staff is nice enough but make sure to ask for everything before they ghost on ya and you feel like your sitting in a twilight zone restaurant that time forgot; like it's a prop. The food was alright and since it is your only option if your in that particular building. Pricing is too high though for a party of 3 with burger meals and only 1 ice tea; price is $37; I get you have the people trapped in the building but for that price point in the middle of nowhere land of indio, you really should step your quality up or lower your prices.

Anna M.

Yelp
Not a PIT stop with kids. Inside the Casino. No kids allowed. Tried to stop on the way back from LA closest restaurant near Dino exhibit.

Maribel R.

Yelp
Thank you to the most kindest server i have ever experienced.Tania was very knowledgeable on the menu and helpful with every question i had. I will definitely be coming back hoping to have tania as my server food was amazing overall.
google avatar

Nancey C.

Yelp
Great breakfast's lunches, dinners menus. Less expensive than good times very good reasonable price service is usually very good the pit stop has the same menu as good times cafe located at the large casino, but the price seem lower. There is no ambiance, strictly for hungry gambler.
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
Never a gamble with the food. Honestly I don't know why people don't love on this place. From prime rib to Tater tots everything tastes great. if you show your players card you get a discount and the parking lot is never full, I love the old casino experience, the staff is friendly and attentive
google avatar

Beatriz S.

Yelp
Went last year in May and LOVED IT. Staying at Morongo again and walked from the main casino, at the doors a very rude security guard stopped us and said NO KIDS... I said they aren't going to gamble, just going to the restaurant... still a solid NO .... I was pretty upset and super bummed out and walked back to main Morongo starving
google avatar

Yelp
I'd start this review by saying that the place looks really new and clean! It felt nice watching the football game while eating. We mom and I had the appetizer platter, she ordered the loaded potato and it was huge! The size of the plate, and it was good too. I had the BLTA with avocado and it was good ! I had to visit at least three times to make a review and finally had to say it's a five star. Lisa our server was great! She checked up on us and was nice. To top it off a big guy came to our table to ask us how our food was and it was the chef! His name tag said Alexandro. Good job chef and keep up the good work. Pit Stop? You have a nice group of people working to make a good name for you now. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I've seen this place advertised ever since Morongo casino was remodeling so I was curious to go check it out. I wasn't very impressed first off it's not in the main casino of the hotel it's in the old building where they have the bowling alley and bingo. So you can take a shuttle or walk, but with all the construction going on and shuttles far in between it's not feasible getting there unless you lose a good parking spot close to the hotel to drive over there. I had to go get another card, because apparently you cannot use your existing moringo rewards card in the old building I don't know if they are trying to have two separate businesses in one, but I had to get a casino Morongo rewards card sounds like the same name, but its totally different. I went up to get my card and the old woman with dyed black hair with a rat's nest of a hairdo gave me the rudest look all I said was "hi I don't have my casino morongo card may I please have another one" after the dirty look I handed her my ID and she slams my ID back on the counter along what followed with my new rewards card slam on the counter I couldn't believe the ryde customer service. So then my friend and I make our way to the small little pit stop cafe I couldn't believe how small it was, but nonetheless by this time we are hungry we had checked out of the morongo casino hotel and ready to eat I ordered steak and eggs my friend ordered something else my steak was so tough I ordered my steak medium i got medium well they had latino cooks in the kitchen because the music was blasting so loud in Spanish I couldn't believe they would allow it being so loud. I'm all for whistle while you work, but that doesn't mean the customers have to hear it too. The service was a bit slow, but by this time it was expected I see that casino morongo has low standards when it comes to customer service, staff and kitchen help limits need to be set by management and staff need to be taught that customers come first especially when customers come to gamble and spend good money at the casino, because there are plenty of other casinos playing and paying customers can go to. Needless to say I won't be going back to casino morongo shack in the desert and $14.95 for a meal is not a good deal when met with resistance and attitude from staff.
google avatar

Monica C.

Yelp
Stopped in for a couple drinks and lunch. Prices are cheap, you definitely get what you pay for but honestly the food was still really good. It's not the best quality, but Would still recommend. They have a lot of options. Staff was friendly and attentive. We would go back.
google avatar

Meriya W.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We got sat down quickly and everything was super clean. Our server LOLA was so friendly and super attentive. Our food was delicious and LOLA let us know about the specials. Can't wait to come here and eat again. The casino itself was so nice! Smelled really clean when you walked in and staff was so friendly!!

Yelp
I ate the bacon cheese burger with Totts. The meal was great and the service was very friendly and the place is very clean

Yelp
I'm so happy this casino is still open to the public. I had to stop to get my truck checked, while a mechanic looked into my truck.. I grabbed a bite to eat. This place is AMAZING!!! It's beautiful elegant the staff is so friendly. I just love friendly, attentive staff it makes my food taste that much better. not only was my food fresh, it was delicious. I will definitely come back and highly recommend anyone to stop and look into this casino and their food. Only because, I'm working, I couldn't have a drink, but one day.. I'll swing by for one.
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
The perfect diner. Great service and good food. We got far too much but all of it was good! Side salad w/ thousand dressing- great lots of toppings and the dressing was good, loaded baked potato- HUGE slightly warm not hot only downside, Fish and chips- fish was great, good breading and hot, coleslaw was amazing, tartar sauce a little bland but their ranch made up for it, special lobster tails and Mac and cheese- GREAT, smaller lobster tails but so delish, not tough at all and the paprika and butter on top were great, Mac and cheese nice and cheese not dry. Service was great, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and checked on us a few times. The restaurant is clean and the restrooms near in the casino also sparkling. They have great specials I would definitely be back. Can't wait to try more!
google avatar

Nando R.

Yelp
First time here. We had the Big Rig breakfast special. It was basic but good. For $8 I can't complain. Service was good. We will be returning.

Tammy G.

Yelp
I love the small town diner feel. My only problem is they don't open until 8 am. They have a great Big Rig special. Good size breakfast for 9.99. Totally worth it. But, I don't know one trucker that drives a big rig that can wait until 8 am for breakfast.

eli r.

Yelp
Good food and great service. 2 eggs with avocado n bagel filled me up in the best way... and I'm a big man
google avatar

Calva E.

Yelp
Great cook, great service, great all American breakfast We had a group of 10+, we were seated rather quickly and the service was superb. The hash browns were lightly salted and the bacon was crisp to perfection. I couldn't resist to take an onion ring and tater tot from my neighbor... it was all delicious

donald s.

Yelp
Came back next day and Krista made sure it was done perfectly This is true example of a manager stepping up to the plate and knocking it out of the park. Back in good graces pit stop.
google avatar

Yolanda S.

Yelp
Awesome service ! Great food loved the hot wings & the Chicken Alfredo was delicious, staff is very friendly & respectful very clean environment definitely coming again! A must stop if you are visiting the area!
google avatar

Lynae S.

Yelp
I just had the 1/2 rack ribs. The ribs tasted so good meat came right off the bone. I know that next time I go to th pit stop diner I will order them again.

Team R.

Yelp
We went to Morongo to play some BiNgO and found ourselves getting a bite to eat at the "PitStop Diner". Our waitress, Kristen, may even be the manager, was awesome! She was running around assisting the other waitress, Haylee. Haylee was awesome too! If your heafing to the desert and want a really good meal, CHEAP, this place is worth the PitStop! The homemade shakes were good too!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Strict 18 years old and above. We had our kids so went somewhere else. It really should be posted somewhere before going in.

Stacia S.

Yelp
We came to the pit stop dinner because of there Thanksgiving Special,3 Adults,21.95 each,I was impress with the quality of the meal and quanity,3 courses for this price,we had great service, our wait staff Aaron was very friendly and meeting our needs,I will recommend this place to friends and family, not crowded, watching civic rules, all around best value, thankyou Morongo-Stacy+Mike Strout.

Marley R.

Yelp
the food was delicious! the server was super nice and friendly. the grilled chicken sandwich was super tender and yummy. the bbq burger was also delicious! A super cute little diner, very clean and affordable.

Hiro M.

Yelp
casino morongo inside pit stop dinner. food is great and the service was good.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Horrendous.. had a party of 7 and 4 of us got sick, all of us ordered the bacon burger and it looked like someone left it in a tub of water for a days and just slapped it on the grill. On the way home 2 of us had to get out of the car to throw up on the side of the road. Never ever will be returning to this place. This place needs to get inspected ASAP before others get sick. DO NOT GO HERE.
google avatar

Bob P.

Yelp
Such a disappointment. Six staff for five tables and we were ignored for twenty minutes. The spaghetti they brought out seemed like it wasn't even strained there was so much water in it. Spaghetti, not soup. Way over priced for what you get here.
