"Common sense in metro Detroit tells us that the best Lebanese food is found in Dearborn. However, Oak Park residents know that Pita Cafe offers a sturdy alternative right in town. A lot of folks come and order takeout, but stick around and enjoy the inviting dining room and order favorites like the chicken shawarma sandwich, lamb special, or a starter combo, consisting of hummus, tabouli, baba ghanoush, and warm pita — made fresh daily from a wood-fired oven." - Serena Maria Daniels

Google
The best crushed lentil soup and chicken shawarma pita anywhere! So grateful dine in is open again!

Very Fast Service. Up charges are a bit much. Competitively over priced. The same lunch special is nearly $5 less any where else. Shawarma was OK… Lots of Veggies.

I ordered a large fattosh salad. The salad had a whole lot of lettuce but not nearly as much chicken, cucumbers or onions. It looked like I received a small salad based on the amount of chicken that I received. Also it is way over priced compared to other places. I wouldn't have minded the price I paid if it was a good salad but the chicken was over cooked, tough and hard to chew. I will not be returning to Pita Cafe because I was very disappointed with my salad.

Long time place that we've never visited until recently. Went there with a group of six and tried a variety of dishes. They were mostly excellent and very flavorful. Service was excellent and fast and the waitress anticipated our every need. Food bill was very inexpensive. We spent less than $25 per person, but left stuffed and with enough leftovers for another couple of meals.

Google
Love Pita café! I've never had an issue and even if I do, it's always happily corrected. My family eats here at least once a week. The garlic is so fresh! You have to try the hot bread and garlic, you won't be disappointed!

Marilyn Bahoura

Google
I used to go there years ago, today I went there I was very disappointed! Please check your receipt because apparently they charge things you wouldn’t know they did! Please check the receipt! I was disappointed at everything the food and the service. Food was dry and my sandwich was garbage. The soup horrible. $53 for this was not worth it on top of charging for things not telling you! Like ranch or garlic also their salad was horrible and old! I’m very shocked and disappointed!!!

Google
My coworkers and I love this place. The hot bread is amazing. Garlic sauce is on point for sure. Great food. Their lemonades are pricey but they are delicious. Highly recommend trying at least once.

Google
The best food ever. We moved to Texas. But very time we come to visit Michigan. We go to our favorite restaurant. pita cafe

Judy N.

Yelp
BEST crushed lentil soup imo. We have been going to Pita Cafe for years! Great chicken schwarma, tabbouli and soup. The only thing is that they don't have the warm pita breads (fine if you're trying to limit carbs tho!) They are always fast for when we order carry-out!

Scott M.

Yelp
Pita Cafe was one of the first middle eastern restaurants in the Oak Park area when it opened decades ago. All these years later, and despite all the present competition in middle eastern eats, it's still one of the top places in all of metro Detroit. Shawarma, lentil soup, and cream chop (pictured) are all personal faves, especially with a side of garlic toum. As of covid, no table service.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Still solid after all these years. Great hummus and fresh baked bread in their hearth oven. Good shawarma and garlic dip. Toasty house fries. Decent prices. Solid place. Weird they are carry out only but dine in, but whatever. The food and prices are good in. Get the fresh baked bread, the chicken hummus dinner and some garlic on the side. Decent lentil soup too.

Anuj S.

Yelp
Stopped by here recently again after many years as we were driving through Detroit. I have to say things have probably gone down in quality a bit. The bread we paid for and got was not fresh, but there was a nicer guy behind the counter later that brought us some piping hot fresh bread later. I remember they used to just bring it to your table. Oh, and that's another thing. They didn't have any waiters and so... we ordered at the counter and had to eat there takeaway style. idk... it just didn't have that same experience this time around.

Church G.

Yelp
This has been my favorite restaurant for a long time! The indoor dining experience is wonderful! The staff and atmosphere are very friendly and welcoming! The food is fresh and amazing! And the way they handled our large pick up order was over the top!!! 10 Stars!!!!!!!!!!

christopher w.

Yelp
I love their hommous with lamb and fresh pita bread. It's the best in the area. I'd give it 5 stars but they aren't actually a restaurant as their dining area is closed, however, they will let you sit there and eat. Kinda janky if you ask me. We live a ways away, so takeout isn't really practical and not being able to dine in is a deal breaker. They used to have a real restaurant in Birmingham which we ate at all the time, unfortunately, they closed it.

Karen C.

Yelp
This place used to be amazing. We've been going for years-almost weekly. Unfortunately, it's just not the same. I think it changed ownership and now the food is flavorless and very expensive. Sadly won't be going back.

Marie J.

Yelp
They give you a lot of food for the price. It tastes wonderful! I highly recommend the grape leaves. The service is currently take out only. But they allow you to sit. They kindly brought out our apps first which was thoughtful. Then our entree. It was very hot and fresh! The women's bathroom looked like it needed to be cleaned badly. The lid on the far stall was so dirty and the walls and floor boards need a scrubbing.

Andy O.

Yelp
Food is still very good, but they constantly miss items on your order, which is annoying if you go and pick up but at least you can check, but if you order from a delivery service you're just SOL. They don't seem to be bothered to give you what you pay for. Pretty disappointing to see a once great place turning into mediocre.

Cory C.

Yelp
I used to come here periodically with work friends for lunch when I worked in the area. It was a great place to get inexpensive, yet delicious, chicken shawarma sandwiches. While they're still delicious, they're unfortunately no longer inexpensive: it used to be $3.99, but they upped to $6.99 last time I went, almost double the price! The chicken meat is flavorful and tender. It had a good proportion of chicken to pickles and lettuce. I asked for garlic sauce on side, which I appreciate them accommodating. I like that their garlic sauce isn't too strong tasting, like I've had at some other places. I also got a side of rice with slivered almonds: sadly, it was not as good and flavorful as it was in the past, but still pretty good. $5 is definitely too expensive for it, however. My friend ordered a side of hummus, which came in a little plastic sauce cup and they charged $2.99 for it! It was decent, but I've had better hummus elsewhere. I think prices aren't as reasonable as they used to be, but the food is still good overall. Their fresh baked bread is also delicious!

Owen A.

Yelp
What happened to this place???? Flavorless med eastern that's not worth the price point whatsoever. So many better options out there. These guys pride themselves on small portions, high prices, and mediocre quality food. Just skip it.

Kenneth W.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. Service had become a challenge but the restaurant recently switched to a delivery (via Door Dash) OR pick-up only model. The food quality is certainly worth a short drive or wait.

Tracey S.

Yelp
Not the same Pita Cafe...used to be a favorite...Now food precooked dry...so disappointing

Rob D.

Yelp
Chicken Shawarma was great. One lady here is extremely nice. Service was very fast. Have to come and check it out

Claudia K.

Yelp
I feel SO conflicted about Pita Cafe. They truly have some of the best tasting Mediterranean food in the Metro Detroit area, including Dearborn. That said, I don't love going in here, and I can't put my finger on why. One of the more recent times I picked up food, I was not very chatty. One of the guys was trying to talk and wouldn't drop it. He came out from behind the counter. ("You ok, honey?"). I'm sure they thought they were being nice, but it was actually off-putting, especially considering the entirety of their customer-facing staff is men. It's a lot. All that said, the fried cauliflower is absolutely phenomenal. It smells like farts and tastes like sex.

William W.

Yelp
Great food & service on carry out spot on. Have been many times for shawarmas (lamb, chicken and humus/tabouli). Always make sure to get some fresh bread and garlic paste it's to die for.

David V.

Yelp
got their chicken shwarmas and it was delicious! i would definitely come back! best in town, do yourself a favor and come try it!

Jasmine J.

Yelp
Delicious food and fresh juice. The service was good also. All the ingredients were fresh and it tasted authentic

Rochelle D.

Yelp
This is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. The food is consistently good. Well, I get the same thing every time: the vegetarian sampler and fresh baked bread. I've tried other things, but if I want something heart healthy that will provide a good enough portion for dinner and lunch the next day, it's my best choice.

Taryn B.

Yelp
Nice local pick up option for Mediterranean food. Call in orders are usually quick. There is dining space available inside.

Tim R.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite restaurant! It's horrible now, carry out only, totally disorganized, so sad!

Melanie D.

Yelp
Pricey but usually worth it. We don't realize how good we have it in metro Detroit with the abundance of middle eastern restaurants. Pita Cafe is my go-to because it's close to my house. Peak hours are busy though. Expect to wait in line even if you order ahead.

Judith Y.

Yelp
OMG!!! How RUDE can the people here be??? This is my second visit in the last few days, since COVID-19 hit and I wasn't ready for what I encountered. A few days ago, I got to the place near closing...and the guy at the register was very rude. In dismissed it because it was at closing. So I'm sitting here today and I'm experiencing the same attitude. Since the pandemic hit, something terrible here happened! It used to be the most friendly Middle Eastern restaurant. Now they are all very frantic and rude as can be!! The man that used to make the fresh juice even quit! Now they don't make the custom pressed juices that they advertise on the menus. I am sooooo disappointed in this place. I used to love it...the atmosphere, the friendly service and the wonderful food! Now it's a place of confusion. Oh...and I forgot to mention that the rude old guy on the register refuses to wear his face mask.

Nicole E.

Yelp
Place is always decent. I always get crushed lentil soup, hummus app, veggie grape leaves and a big salad. This is my go to after a team community service event at forgotten harvest down the street. Service is always good and food is consistently good. I just wish it were a bit closer to me in RO, as there are tons of good ones right in my neighborhood. Of late I have been on an OJ kick and buy 2 quarts every couple of days for my immunity boost. Their oranges are sweet and costs about $11/quart. Ordered a large hummus, fatoosh sans pita chips, shawarma plate, Greek spinach pie and a small and large lentil. It cost me $69.41 today. The salad and hummus were good, my husband enjoyed his shawarma plate but the meat is mostly dark and on the fatty side. Their OJ is worth the trip for me.

David Y.

Yelp
Friendly service. Delicious food. Would definitely recommend. Ordered the sautéed mushrooms and they are amazing. Would recommend eating them over rice.

Ima T.

Yelp
cut to the chase, The Worst. please, oh lord, how can you mess up felafel? well, they did. i had to keep checking to see if: is there actually felafel in the felafel sandwich? if this isn't felafel, what is it? it was a mess, a complete mess. everything we ordered was "off". the last time i ate there, pre-covid, it was not great. this return trip sealed the deal, pita cafe is off the list, for good.

Cassie W.

Yelp
Best middle eastern food in metro Detroit since I was a child. Consistently delicious!

Allyson M.

Yelp
We ordered food to-go for the first time from Pita Cafe. Service was timely, but the food was just okay. We ordered the falafel plate. Falafels were dry.. We ordered the shish tawook chicken entree, and I'll note the side of garlic sauce was a perfect, generous size (when comparing to some other Mediterranean spots). The chicken was tender but not especially flavorful. The best part may have been the grilled veggies, which we asked for in place of the rice/fries (no additional charge). It was a great selection of vegetables, all grilled to perfection. The lentil soup was okay -- not bad, but not great. When choosing Mediterranean carry out, this will not be on our list -- unfortunately, because it's so close to home! There are simply better places in the area.

Carolyn E.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 20 years; it's my favorite Middle Eastern food outside of Dearborn. The food is delicious and service is great whether you dine in or get carryout. They make homemade fresh bread; the little round puffy pitas. Definitely get hummus to eat it with, but it's delicious with butter or dipped in olive oil too. Honestly, everything I've always ordered is good; even their basic chicken shawarma sandwich is fresh and so tasty. As for dinner, you won't be disappointed with the whole or half de-boned chicken, it's amazing with sides, salad, soup, bread, yum! The inside is clean and cute; usually I dine in when I come here, and I already can't wait for my next visit!

Christa B.

Yelp
Pita Cafe is my go to. I've been going here for at least 10 years, I even drive 20 minutes from where I live to come here. Can't go wrong with their Shish Combo-Kabob, Kafta, Tawook...always good and fresh. Fattoush, lentil soup and hummus are also usually in my order as well as a side of pickled turnips! Yum!

Jody K.

Yelp
My coworker was going to Pita Cafe for lunch and asked if I wanted her to bring me anything. I asked her for a fattoush salad with beets & feta cheese. Pretty basic. Well, the salad IS very basic: lettuce, cucumbers, a bit of cabbage and some pale tomatoes. The feta is salty but has no other distinctive taste. The pita bread pieces tasted like it was just baked plain -- no additional seasoning or flavor at all. The dressing had a kind of sharp note to it, but no real flavor. And something in the salad was just bitter. I love fattoush salads, but this one is just very blah. But, to end on an up note, their (non-pita) bread is house made and it's fantastic.

Julie A.

Yelp
We got two full orders of deboned chicken with rice and salad and garlic sauce. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. We also got lentil soup- absolutely delicious! Best lentil soup I've had. Unfortunately, they forgot the pita bread. But it wasn't missed with all the other yummy food. Hopefully, they won't forget it if we decide to come back. Also, we order baklava. They are so small. So be prepared to get several pieces unless you just want a taste.

Norissa M.

Yelp
My favorite side is the cauliflower. Must try!! Never had bad service. Food is dusky ready in a good time

Stacey S.

Yelp
I think I have honestly found the tastiest and juiciest shawarma plate on the planet. Great hummus, great garlic sauce - not too overpowering - really tasty bread, too. Good service. Crowded parking lot, my guess that is that most of the parking is from Pita Cafe. Easy access to the freeway which makes it more convenient to travel to.

Cat T.

Yelp
I was picking up something near by and have never tried this place. I got the shawarma sandwich, Greek salad and chicken lemon rice soup. It was done super fast. I got inside and was blown away by how beautiful and ornate the inside was. It was so beautiful I asked if I could eat my to go order inside. They kindly welcomed me to a table. The food is amazing. I eat Mediterranean often... this is good stuff. I got so comfortable during my lunch there. I then ordered a fresh juice. Carrot beet. I asked to add apples. Wow it was so good. I felt so welcome and comfortable I asked for lemons (usually I just don't want to bother anyone). He then took my juice back and squeezed fresh lemons in my juice. I will a million percent be here more often.

Christy C.

Yelp
Long time favorite! So friendly and an essential neighborhood business right now! I love their chicken shawarma sandwich, some bread and garlic sauce, and maybe a juice or smoothie to go. The cream chop is also fabulous. Ive never had anything I didnt love to be honest.

Katherine E.

Yelp
I've always loved Pita Cafe. My extended family used to meet up here for birthdays and what not. The food quality isn't the same as it used to be, but it's still pretty good. I'll come here at least once a month because of the fast service and convient location. One complaint that I have is the fact that you need to pay extra for the good bread. You know, the little circle ones. They used to give it out automatically with each and every Carry out. Now, they just give you the cheap bagged stuff.

silvia H.

Yelp
Fresh smoothies & juices. Amazing soups, fresh salads. Flavorful sandwiches and dinners. Reasonable prices. You can taste that the ingredients are high quality. Garlic actually tastes like garlic (unlike many other places..) Truly, I have yet to have anything on the menu that I didn't love!

Jonathan A.

Yelp
Pre Covid this place was was 4.5/5 ! Post Covid 0.45/5 !!! So sad to see this place gone so down hill !!! Pita bread is now store bought from Kroger !!! I wonder if the management changed ? I understand Covid hit all of us esp restaurants but to cut corners and provide this $@$));: I am so disappointed

Ashley B.

Yelp
Can you believe that I have lived half my life 3 minutes from Pita Cafe, drove past it millions of times and never stopped in once? I have been missing out! I got a random taste for a chicken shawarma so I gave them a call for carry out. The guy on the phone was really nice and was patient with me and all my questions. I guess I had a different person that the rude ones I have seen mentioned in others reviews. I ordered a chicken shawarma, small hummus and bread. The dining area was closed because of covid but it was still clean. I knocked off a star because the guy that rang me up so fast that he got my order mixed up with another person with my same name and charged me for her order instead which was $3 more. Cashiers should verify someone's order BEFORE you cash them out, not after. Other than that, the shawarma was delicious...one of the best that I've ever had! I see why this place is popular. The hummus was tasty and the bread was soft even when it cooled down. I will definitely be back!

Jo C.

Yelp
Cute, friendly, caring owners and staff. Great customer service. Beautiful interior!!! I got falafel, the best I've had in a while. I recommend!

Chris B.

Yelp
Excellent food, got the sampler and a few sandwiches, all high quality, fantastically seasoned and great value. Glad we found Pita Cafe since we were losing faith in some of prior go to middle eastern spots!

Angie B.

Yelp
Quick carry out prior to dinner time on a Thursday. My chicken kafta pita sandwich was perfect. The crushed lentil soup is a little different - lemony - very good!

Jackie V.

Yelp
Solid every single time . I've probably eaten there 30 times . Fresh. Delicious . Healthy . Good portions . Great prices . Great service . It's basically all "to go since" COVID. Love it.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Pita Cafe is my go to restaurant for Mediterranean food! I moved out of state but I have to stop here every time I'm back in Michigan. I love the chicken shawarma sandwich and the fattoush salad. Pita cafe's fattoush salad is my favorite around.

Lora U.

Yelp
Good food, but customer service via phone/carry out service - not so good. I've frequented this restaurant several times. I've dined in and I've done carry out. This is the second experience I've had where the male answering the phone was "rude & crude. I placed my order, and I was told one of the ingredients I've requested in my frozen lemonade was not available. I then asked the server, "how much is just the lemonade?". He was very curt in his answer. From that point, I was ready to cancel the conversation and my carry out order - which I did.

Gemini 4.

Yelp
Incredible food, the chicken shawarma sandwich was to die for!! I wish I could eat one every day of my life!!! The lentil soup was also incredibly delicious! I highly recommend this place. The owners/employees are lovely and have great customer service!

Lavosha B.

Yelp
Love love love the chicken and rice w/ almonds and the sauce has to be in every bite. I also really like there lemonade and smoothie. What I like most is I don't feel heavy afterwards, it's light yet filling.

Shana L.

Yelp
Quick. Friendly and delicious. It's change a lot since the pandemic (such as it no longer being a sit down restaurant), but the food is still yummy :-)
