Pitango Inducted Into Prosciutto Specialists’ Group | Eater DC

"A months-old Adams Morgan hybrid gelateria and neighborhood eatery, Pitango Gelato & Café has earned entry into the Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma for the attention it pays to gourmet meats, an honor that also extends to its sibling bakery in Baltimore, Maryland. To celebrate the membership, prosciutto specialist Francesco Lupo hand-sliced bone-in Parma ham at the newest of Pitango’s six D.C.-area locations, and the prized Italian ham is featured in the café’s sandwich offerings. The 40-seat AdMo spot serves an Italian-leaning menu packed with charcuterie, sandwiches, avocado toast, salads, and pastries, and the drink list has expanded to include more Italian liquors and aperitivo specials such as the Rosé-us Maximus (grappa, vermouth, prosecco, and club soda) and a Negroni. As founder Noah Dan says, “Prosciutto di Parma is magic! The whole product and process is incredible and at the same time it is so easy to ruin a good prosciutto by not paying attention to small details.” Pitango plans prosciutto-based events, gelato-making classes, and wine tastings to highlight that care, with announcements to be posted on its Facebook page." - Tierney Plumb

Google
Very friendly and accommodating staff. But, the Gelato were thermonuclear sugar bombs. There was so much sugar in them that any other flavor gets buried. Whoever is making them, at least halve the sugar!

Sukesh S.

Google
We had a delightful time at PitanGo Gelato! Their gelato is incredibly creamy, and the flavour selection is refreshingly unique. We tried hazelnut, cardamom, black tea, and walnut — each one stood out with its distinct taste and smooth texture

Google
Of the hundred or so cities in the US I’ve been to and of the dozens of countries, this place has really stood out. Excellent flavors (all homemade on site) but the staff was so genuinely kind and patient. Even visiting on a cold day in November, this was an excellent gelato.

Prasad M

Google
The place is a bit small with few tables indoors on a hot day. Found it a bit pricey for the cup sizes. There are some unique flavors on the menu, and the gelato is smooth to taste. We had the cardamom, turmeric ginger, and hazelnut chocolate flavors

Kathy C.

Google
I love their gelato and my husband can get a delicious chocolate sorbet, he’s lactose intolerant. The customer service is outstanding. When my grandkids have had issues they always help make it right. I appreciate that.

Google
I just moved to the area and was desperate to find a decent hot chocolate. After strikeout after strikeout at other cafés, I decided to give Pitango a chance—big mistake. ‘Hot chocolate’ is a generous term for what I got. It tasted like someone heated up water and waved a piece of chocolate near it. If you enjoy drinking warm, brown-tinted water with a hint of syrup, this is your spot. I walked out more disappointed than when I walked in, which I didn’t think was possible.

Google
We had a great time here at Pitango the staff was super friendly and helpful. The gelatos were delicious, we were able to try a lot of the different flavors they have and it was amazing! You can choose two or three options on your gelatos so that is great if you want to try multiple flavors. It was one of my best experiences eating gelatos, when we are in the area again, we will be back for sure! I'll highly recommend it 🔥🔥🔥

Vladlena J.

Google
I live in the area and would often get a little ice-cream treat. But after today I will not step my foot at this establishment EVER AGAIN. Worse customer service I’ve ever had. Mean, rude, just gross. Kilwins has my full attention and money now. Fix your attitude to your loyal and local customers!

Yelp
Pitango is a delight to my heart. The gelato is always creamy, silky, and rich in flavor. The menu rotates, so I usually ask the staff for their pick of the day: decision-making is hard when everything's good. I'm a tea person, and I'm obsessed with the black tea and matcha flavors. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the room is bright with a great view of the beautiful streets of Fells Point. A must-stop for me whenever I am there.

Yelp
Food: We got the blackberry, pomegranate, and hazelnut flavors. They all tasted great but the textures were a little weird. Service: Everyone was very nice and helpful, letting us try the different flavors. Ambiance: The place is quaint but air conditioned. Price: This was the drawback since everything was a bit pricey.

Yelp
Always so yummy! It is quite on the expensive side but that's to be said with gelato! The workers here are also super nice and welcoming. The shop is simple, not that many chairs but they make it work.
google avatar

Jolanta L.

Yelp
We ordered mango, strawberry and chocolate hazelnut. I was very amazed by the Chocolate Hazelnut flavor, it's very flavorful, it's definitely the chocolate hazelnut I had in gelato. The service is great. The only thing is the size of "large" is still fairly small, so they use one size cup, it's just you could get more flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing gelato spot in Fells! Ordered the passion fruit and pink grapefruit sorbet gelatos. Both were excellent and refreshing. We ate outside on the benches, as there is limited indoor seating. Can't wait to come back and try some more flavors! Friendly service with the option to sample before buying.

Yelp
Good variety of gelatos and sorbets in Fells Point, everything I have tried has been delicious. The sorbets are super fresh, esp the Mojito flavor, and the gelatos are very decadent. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Desserts ordered: -Sipping Chocolate Affogato with caffe espresso gelato. Delicious gelato to balance out the bitterness of the espresso. My description of the espresso gelato is the same as my other gelato: rich, creamy and not too sweet. 9.5/10 -Regular cup of Chocolate Hazelnut Affogato: Rich, creamy and not too sweet. Hazelnut flavor was balanced along with the chocolate in perfect harmony 9.5/10 -Ambience: Small interior with limited seating, but it had a nice decor and layout with good lighting. -Cleanliness: It was clean. -Service: Even though we came 30 minutes before closing (Sorry! I hate doing that!) they had good attitudes and smiles on their faces :) -Transportation: Walking -Value: Average price of gelato/ dessert nowadays, but the taste justifies it. 8/10 -Wait time: Served in less than 5 minutes. No line and all they had to do was scoop the gelato and get an espresso shot going. 10/10 Personal notes: I've heard stories and had this proven in my own experiences: the true gelaterias are not those displayed with colorful mounds of cream, they are hidden under metal lids. It makes sense for me in a practical sense, keeping the bugs out of the sweet dessert. Also, in a sense, it speaks to a different culture over there. I've never been to Italy but I imagine the culture is different, including how they sell products. A gelateria with all its gelato displayed wows potential customers and draws them in. The gelato hidden in the pot is much more humble, and lets its flavor do the talking. I really do enjoy this line of thinking. Ah, also the ingredient quality is amazing here. I've recently been drawn to organic grass-fed milk products, and considering how I can feel good about the ingredients along with the spectacular taste, I'm very impressed. I wish more places used grass-fed milk.

Yelp
Amazing gelato spot, so glad I could stop by! I got the pistachio and stracciatella flavors. Both were so delicious and creamy. I really liked the texture of the gelato as well. There's some seating inside but it's the perfect treat to grab and take with you while walking around the area on a nice day.
google avatar

Yelp
Although a chain, Pitango's is worth checking out. Staff is welcoming and helpful; service is fast. There are some tables inside, but why stay inside when you can walk the waterfront with your treat? Paid street parking is available in the immediate premises, or free street parking can be found if you don't mind walking one or two blocks. Since it's a smaller shop, it can get crowded when busy, but it doesn't get overly loud. They have a good amount of flavor options with some very unique choices depending on the time and location. There are also many non-dairy options. I highly recommend the strawberry sorbet on a hot summer day! Prices are slightly higher than I'd normally pay, but they aren't so bad that I wouldn't return. This place is popular for a reason - I recommend you find out why for yourself!
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
Loved the pistachio and hazelnut flavor together!!!!! I would go back to try other flavors.
google avatar

Ren H.

Yelp
The best gelatos around! I recently came back while walking around Fells Point. It's been so hot out and a cold gelato sounded amazing. The staff greeted me when I walked in. I looked at their flavors and asked to try a couple different samples before settling on the Fior Di Latte. It was light in milk flavor and was so creamy - simply delicious! It's a casual spot to get gelato or other beverages. Pretty pricey but fun to come for a rare treat!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
It's not Italy but it's still pretty good. If you know what the real deal gelato is supposed to taste like, lower your expectations and come thinking of ice cream instead. That said, it is lovely ice cream and the staff is helpful. We happened to come in on a night that the manager was training a new employee who was doing a great job despite being obviously new. I got a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of hazelnut and it paired really nicely together. My boyfriend got the ice cream sundae which wasn't the prettiest thing ever, but it seemed good. Unfortunately, we came in close to closing time and the manager was not shy about letting us know this. We were asked to leave right at 9pm on the dot along with many other customers. He was respectful about it, but I did feel rushed and my boyfriend wasn't able to finish his sundae. All in all, if you're hankering for ice cream in Fells Point, I'd recommend this spot.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
They're gelato is 'real'. They keep the gelato covered and import their product. Pitango got busy with a short line when we went but the service was very fast still. You can get samples if you're not sure from their many flavors. The workers were very friendly and didn't make me feel bad about asking for samples either. Overall, great service, good amount of options, and worth returning to!

Yelp
Creamy, cold, buttery, rich texture and flavor. What more can I say about the decedent Pitango Gelato. Yummy, Yummy every time lol A delicious end to a fun filled day with friends . I love this location for a personal treat, romantic stroll down Fells Point by the water, or something sweet at the end of a hard week. We've been going to Pitango for years. Today we were served by Joseph. He was extremely professional, timely with all of the customers coming in, and friendly. I love the new signage of the all of the flavors that they offer as well as the signage for price and size of the cups. One regular size is $7.25 a little steep, but very worth it for the quality and flavor options of the gelato and sorbet. You call also choose more than one flavor with the regular size cup which is nice. I ordered the Pistachio gelato mixed with the flavor Crema. Both pairs together so good. Very delicious. They also have a rewards system , 50 points = $3 off towards your purchase and they offer a birthday reward if you register. Next time your in Fells Point you must try, and being friends. Enjoy!
google avatar

Jessi S.

Yelp
Delicious gelato! Prices are steep but you get what you pay for! I really like that the cones are included and not a surcharge. I always get the pistachio.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
Cute little walk in spot with some window seats. Sooooo many flavors to choose from. The staff is friendly and helpful and let me try a couple flavors. I got the coconut milk gelato and mojito sorbet. Great combo. I will be thinking of this place a lot until I have a chance to come back. Super refreshing with a silky texture. If you have not been here.. Go here!!
google avatar

Brenda S.

Yelp
Pitango Gelato consistently is one of the best sweet treats in Baltimore! I love how it actually feels like gelato unlike a lot of other places that are more ice cream-y. The flavors are always changing and funky fresh! I wish they kept their original Fior De Latte but it's ok, I still love them!! The people who serve you are always so sweet and let you try whatever flavors you want. The location is so clutch in Fells for a sweet treat after dinner!
google avatar

Tracey W.

Yelp
Such a cute little Italian style coffee shop. They have a unique variety of flavors, the (you know I sampled some before choosing) few that I tried were rich and smooth. I choose the pistachios (no s in it ) and the almond selections. Expect a little wait the line was out the door. The young girls were attentive and friendly. I got a small, in which you can get two flavors. I also got a coffee because why not, the macchiato was also very strong and rich, I couldn't get it to sweeten up even with the ice cream in there. I would come back to try the fruity flavors. See you there !!
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
Took a stroll to Baltimore today and we were looking for something yummy to eat for dessert. We stumbled across Pitango Geltao. As we entered, we noticed that the gelato is stored in metal tins with lids, great first impression! The menu has GF options and FF (fat free) options labeled, and the sorbet is Diary Free! The staff was super nice and since it wasn't too busy, we were able to try a few options. In the end, my husband opted for mojito and lemon sorbet. The mojito was spectacular and actually tasted like a mojito! I got the pistachio and chocolate hazelnut, very creamy and flavorful. It is pricey but totally worth it! We can't wait to try the location in Kalorama, DC!
google avatar

Thuong N.

Yelp
We walked by this place and saw a long line, so we decided to stop and give it a try. We got mango and pistachio, strawberry and black tea. I love the black tea flavor--it's very good. The ice cream melted quickly due to the hot weather, but it's a great place to get ice cream in the neighborhood. The line was long but moved fast.
google avatar

Dia T.

Yelp
Went back and it's still wonderdully indulgent , smooth and creamy gelato with elevated "adult" flavors that transport me into a place of relaxation. Just what I needed.
google avatar

Cammi P.

Yelp
This gelato spot will satisfy your sweet tooth any night of the week or after a yummy dinner in Fells Point. The gelato is authentically displayed, stored, and served and tastes like it is straight from Italy. The staff are friendly and patient and offer samples. While it is a smaller spot, there are seats both inside and out to perfectly enjoy your gelato!
google avatar

Jed W.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time in a long time. I have always preferred their sorbet to the Gelato and so got the lemon sorbet which is just fabulous. Some of the best you'll find anywhere. They let you taste flavors which is great and the passion fruit was also great. I Tried the turmeric ginger Gelato which was very good but, for me, not as good as the sorbet. The prices are steep, $7.50 for a very small portion, but for a treat it's worth it!
google avatar

Damilola J.

Yelp
My mentor told me about the spot, and as a lover for sweets I couldn't help but try it out! Coming into the sweets shop I noticed how adorable the space was! It was definitely packed so I know that this spot must be good! We were greeted by the friendly staff immediately upon walking in. The wait in line wasn't super long, and as a first time guest, it gave me the time to look through the super delicious menu and choose the option I wanted. They have an assembly line ordering station which is very similar to Chipotle, however they (Pitango) are much better which their portion sizing lol! I was greeted by Joseph the employee, who gave me the ability to test out three flavors since it was my first time. I was super indecisive, but Joseph made me very comfortable and waited as I made my decision. I tried the crema and dark chocolate gelato which was the best combination of goodness that I highly recommend! I got the regular size which was about $8 which wasn't too bad for high quality gelato. Overall, I truly enjoyed myself and I can't wait to go back! Thank you Joseph for having such a warm embrace and making my first time experience here an amazing one!

Yelp
** 6 Year Review Update ** Welp, this review update will not steer far from the initial. This place has gone from great to greatest !! The customer service has continued to be impeccable, ice cream/ sorbet flavors delicious and the premises environmentally attractive and clean. This place is a neighborhood gem that I look forward to visiting again and again very soon !!
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced for mid gelato. Hazelnut and pistachio was good, nothing extraordinaire....It was $8 for two scoops of gelato but the cup was tiny. Disappointing, personally I don't recommend.
google avatar

Tiana N.

Yelp
Amazing Gelato! There were a lot of flavors to choose from. The staff was really friendly and offered samples. We ended up getting half Pistachio and half Chocolate. They were really rich and creamy. My favorite is the Pistachio! The inside is also really cute. There isn't much seating inside though but there's a nice area to sit at in the plaza outside.
google avatar

Peanut B.

Yelp
Love this gelato place at Fells Point. It is so refreshing and satisfying. Would go back regularly.
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
Gelato.... In BALDIIIMORRRR??? I mean damn this is some good stuff! Creamy... sweet.. good service. There's usually a line so get ready to watch everyone come out of the store with awesome gelato.. makes you more hungry!
google avatar

Brandon N.

Yelp
Very solid gelato. A lot of reviews are saying it's the best they had but I think it's just a bit above solid, maybe a top 5 I've had but definitely not near the top. It is a bit expensive but the texture is delightfully smooth and creamy. The mojito one is like shaved ice which provided a nice contrast. Overall, an 8.5/10 for me. I thought it was good but I wouldn't really be craving this spot again.
google avatar

Eunice T.

Yelp
Ordered a large to share with my boyfriend. They were very generous with each scoop. I chose their hibiscus (sorbet), mojito (sorbet), and hazelnut (gelato) as the 3 scoops of flavors. I loved all of them, but especially the mojito (it was sour and super refreshing) and hazelnut (tastes different/more floral-y than the ones I've had before). My bf loved the hibiscus one the most. The 3 flavors I chose surprisingly complemented each other very well. Their sorbet was different than what I'm used to. It feels like sorbet-gelato. Sorbet flavor/texture with gelato consistency. They definitely have the stretchiest gelato and sorbet of all gelato places I've been to in the U.S.
google avatar

Anita B.

Yelp
Artisanal gelato with unique flavors - very refreshing, pure, and delicious. Unlike traditional gelato which is creamy, pitango gelato has a light texture reminiscent of sorbet. They offer many fruit and floral flavors, including golden kiwi, hibiscus blossom, and cardamom. We also enjoyed the chocolate and hazelnut flavors! The street is super cute with tons of restaurants, cafes, and ice cream!
google avatar

Yuteng W.

Yelp
a baltimore classic for its gelato i had a wonderful time with friends. service was welcoming and friendly, alllowing for multiple free samples of the flavors and being very generous with the scoops. ambiance was standard, i went on a wednesday night during the winter so of course there isn't a crowd or a bunch of hustle and bustle. if you go i recommend a combination of their fruit and hazelnut flavors for a double scoop!
google avatar

Esther A.

Yelp
Best gelato possible in the dmv area! You can opt to taste the flavors you are interested in before settling for it. There are seating options outside or grab and walk around Fells Point. Staff was pleasant and helpful
google avatar

Kevin E.

Yelp
This is the best gelato I've ever had!! The texture was super thick and creamy! I got the Hazelnut and the Pistachio and both were bursting with nutty flavors. The shop is small but clean and the server was very friendly. Located in a very picturesque part of Fells Point right next to the harbor. Minus one star because the prices are kind of insane. $7+ for a small cup that I finished in a couple of bites. But that texture and flavor doe; spot on.
google avatar

Melanie H.

Yelp
The coffee here is so good. The staff educated me about the different kinds of espresso and even made me something to try. It's a really cute spot for a coffee date.
google avatar

Selina C.

Yelp
Pitango is a great pit stop for a quick dessert. They offer numerous fun and interesting flavors that you can sample. I ordered a half chocolate hazelnut, half cardamom small gelato, which I thought was the perfect combo. It was a Friday night and there wasn't any seating available inside, so I ate while walking around Baltimore Harbor. Service was fantastic, though I wish that the gelato wasn't so expensive.
google avatar

Jon F.

Yelp
My favorite gelato place. I take my friends and family here all the time when they come visit. Love that Pitango uses local and organic ingredients with milk from grass-fed cows. My fiancée and I celebrated our engagement in Italy back in November and I learned that it's best to go to places where they use stainless steel lids instead of having the gelato exposed because the temperature is better regulated. A lot of the time, without the covers you can see that the gelato is melted. Well, Pitango uses the lids and made me love them even more. The servers are usually pretty nice and willing to provide you with as many samples as you want. My favorite flavors are hazelnut and chocolate hazelnut. It's not a big space, but it doesn't have to be. There's enough seating inside and out for you to enjoy your cup of gelato. We come here all the time and don't plan on stopping.
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
The best!! Every flavor of gelato and sorbet is rich and creamy. You also cannot go wrong with an affogato!
google avatar

Bell A.

Yelp
I like Pitango. I got hazelnut and pineapple. I liked the hazelnut the most. Clean and friendly establishment. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Grace W.

Yelp
We walked by one night (Thursday) after dinner on our Baltimore Harbor getaway and decided to try it. It's a cute little place with many flavors on gelato & sorbet. I tried the Mojito Sorbet and it was so good. As a matter of fact, I love it so much that I came back for it again on Sunday before we drive home.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
I was not a fan of the gelato at this place. The flavors were weird/ unique which usually I'm open to but they just did not execute. I thought everything needed to be sweeter. It was a waste of ice cream calories for mucho dinero. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

Dylan G.

Yelp
After traveling through much of Europe and trying many different gelato shops, I'd say Pitango is by far one of the best in America. Well worth the price.
google avatar

Qi Quan L.

Yelp
I had the star anise gelato and was surprised by the flavor. I love the spice but it's not for everyone. The texture of the gelato is also somewhat different (more stretchy) from the gelati I've had in Italy, but still very enjoyable.

Hope T.

Yelp
gelato was super good! I got the Bacio and Strateciella. The inside was very clean as well.
google avatar

K P.

Yelp
This is a quaint cafe by the water. The food is rustic and fantastic. It is a must try in my opinion. The sandwiches made on whole made focaccia are to die for. The 2nd day i went I watched the two chefs making the sandwiches and they were treating the process like they were making an expensive branzino dinner. This guy was so happy putting a little of this and a bit of that. The focaccia by itself is good but these sandwiches are a piece of rustic heaven. This place has great food and delicious bakery style cookies. I was really impressed by all of it and the service was really great. This was my first time being introduced to this bakery but I would try all of them if I could. Very good spot.
google avatar

Ellen H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and realized during my last stop that I've never written a review. Every time I come, there's a new and interesting flavor combo, which is really exciting. I ordered coconut yesterday and it was soo creamy, my boyfriend ordered chocolate chip and chocolate and it was also delicious. $6 or $7 for a single scoop in a cup sounds like it's expensive, but the gelato is rich and filling. The staff is always friendly and helpful and it's such a cute little storefront.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Very cute gelato place with enough space for you to work on your laptop. I was so excited to see that they sell affogatos They have a good variety of flavors -- definitely a recommended spot for your Fells Point food crawl.
google avatar

Ana E.

Yelp
Yummy creamy gelato. They have a small indoor seating area. Located in Fells Point. Nice assortment of non/traditional flavors.
