Endo Kazutoshi's London: Top Picks From a Star Sushi Chef

"I really like Pitshanger Bakery in Ealing, where I live. It’s simple and good; I always buy their baguettes and croissants. The brownies are also very good as a special treat." - Andrew Young

We are so very lucky to have Pitshanger Bakery in Northfields - the most beautiful freshly baked products served with friendly and always smiling service even at 7am on a Saturday. We buy our bread here every week and treat ourselves to Viennoiserie most Saturdays. The sausage rolls are really hard to resist too….😁

the scent of this bakery is gourmand on the nose. an atmosphere that exudes richness, buttery depth, and warmth. it is evident the baked goods here are crafted with a harmonious balance of science and art. cookies, breads, and croissants are flaky, soft, or crisp exactly where they should be. oh and the sourdough is to die for. i could live off of it.

This is a great bakery that I have been a customer of since they first arrived in Northfield Ave. But they are not perfect. I am moved to write this review because their stocking policy is completely rubbish. Ostensibly, they are open until 16:30, but I really don't know why they bother because by mid to late morning they are typically out of most of the things that I want to buy. This is absolutely infuriating. I simply do NOT understand why they do not bake more of the popular items so that they are not CONSTANTLY out of stock. I have tried on a number of occasions to raise this issue with the staff but all they do is smile sweetly and shrug their shoulders whilst pointing out that stocking decisions are above their pay grade. I accept this, but surely by now the customer feedback should have been passed up the line and something done about it. The last time that I was in the shop (at midday just a couple of days ago) I was so infuriated with the mostly bare shelves that I simply turned around and walked out without buying anything. I typically spend £20 - £30 per visit. I can also confirm the observations of some of the other reviewers as well - the service is frequently very impatient, often teetering on the border of rudeness if you do not know instantly what you wish to order (perhaps because half the things that you went in for are persistently out of stock!). Constant barks of "anything else?!" without giving you a moment to think are really rather irritating to say the least. I appreciate that the shop is often busy, but really, this is borderline rude.

Such a nice bakery, they do this huge cheese and bacon bread, it's so good!. The olive sticks are great too.

A delightful bakery with delicious sandwiches and cakes. The ham, cheese and spinach is a must accompanied with the banana bread, very satisfying! :)

The Italian lady has always come across quite rude but our last visit was the final nail in the coffin. She was there together with two other employees. One customer inside who was leaving at the time. We stood in the door keeping our dog outside as they don’t let dogs in. We have been doing so for two years and never were blatantly refused to be served as we are standing in the door and it is against their rules (incorrect) and other customers complaint??? Seriously mind blowing level of disrespect and we will take our business elsewhere.

Great selection of bread. Their wholemeal sourdough is my favourite, but anything I've tried has been excellent. Super friendly service too. So happy to have this place on our local high street.
