The accommodations were lovely and reasonably priced. Our room was large and well appointed. Loved the concept. The beautiful copper tub was a nice touch, and having access to filtered water in the hallway was a plus. We were in room 26 and located on the third floor. The room was relatively quiet, although there was the occasional slamming door that broke the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. Climate control in the room was excellent, and we slept comfortably. That is, until a thunderstorm arrived at around two in the morning.
The storm did not disturb us, despite lightning striking near the building and briefly knocking out power. Apparently, the elevators stopped working, but that was not a problem for us. The biggest issue, and the one that ruined our night, was related to some sort of safety feature that turned on an overhead light in our room. There was no way to turn off the light, so we called hotel staff. They returned our call within a few minutes, and just before 3:00 AM, a hotel employee came to our room to assist. Unfortunately, he had no idea how to override the light, so we were forced to sleep in bright light until it finally went off a little after 6 AM. Needless to say, it was a rather sleepless night by that point. I actually slept with a rolled up towel over my eyes to diminish the brightness, but it didn’t provide much relief.
Generally, the response we were given was somewhat dismissive. While we did not necessarily expect to be compensated for this major inconvenience, we would have appreciated more attention to getting the problem resolved. We had looked forward to our stay in this unique hotel, and wound up leaving tired and disappointed when we checked out. It is unlikely that we will take another chance on this establishment.
