High expectations but dissapointed.
For the positives, this is a very pretty hotel, and the rooms are exactly what I'd expect for an upper class Waco hotel. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. The beer is exactly as expected for a Czech place, and being a Texan I really, really appriciate that.
The Negatives: As other reviewers stated, this place does feel like the owner's are resting on their laurels a bit, and letting the place decay without attention to the items reported by their guests. In my experience, which was to be a relaxing night to rest before driving further northward. The room fridge, which I only noticed about 3-4am was so loud that it vibrated items in the bathroom, but of course a low enough frequency that I didn't notice it until I just didn't get any sleep. I also noticed as I left that morning that you could hear it half way down the hall. It's hard to believe that the staff didn't notice it, but as it was a pretty low frequency it would be easy to miss so we can give that a pass. I would have with the exception that after reporting that to the reciptionist that next morning, and checking out to ensure that I didn't owe anything (short night with nothing taken from the in-room ammenities), I got home to a 4$ish charge to my card. I called back and was told it was for "gum". Very dissapointing since I don't even chew gum, and since I was by myself in the room I certainly didn't take it.
By itself that would have been no big deal, but put the two of them together with the addition of how much more expensive this place was compared to the other choices within blocks of them, I won't be back. Which is really too bad because the place could be soooooo nice.
Czech history runs deep in Texas, this shoud (and could be) a fitting tribute to that, rather than just a cheap facade to capitalize on it.
