I have never really taken a restaurant to task because everyone has a good day and a bad day. However what I experienced today at Pizano in Lakewood, NJ is something that I must share.
Being that Lakewood has limited dairy evening options, and really wanting dairy, I chose to go here with my family, even though in the past we have had poor service here. We have had times where food took 40 minutes to arrive, times were every item brought to the table was not what we ordered, items being "forgotten", special instructions ignored, and more poor experiences.
We placed an order, and one of the items we ordered was a cooked salmon roll. We made it clear that we wanted it plain, with no sauces, toppings, or crunches. When the sushi arrived it was sprinkled with sweet sauce. The sushi was for my son and he was very upset by it, as he really doesn't like the sweet sauce. We brought it back to the counter and explained the issue. He summonsed the sushi guy who proceeded to bombard us with nastiness and that we have no right to complain as he's been making sushi for 21 years, and he always makes it with sauce. I asked him to kindly remake it, to which he refused, and continued with his nasty diatribe. At this point I asked the manager to cancel my complete order and refund me as I refused to be spoken to that way by a restaurant worker. The sushi guy loudly says: "Good, get the F**K out of the store", and other such vile language. I told him that his language is unacceptable and that I will contact the owner. He proudly told me to do so, and continued to repeat his vile filled rant. The manager was barely apologetic, but did refund us for the order (minus the cookie that my son already ate). Being that the owner was not present, I reached out and called the owner to let him know that I have never been treated this way by a restaurant, and that this is unacceptable. Instead of asking for details about what happened and apologizing, he began to berate me for calling, and what do I know about restaurants, and why I think he should do anything about it.
As I have always known, how workers treat customers is a reflection of ownership/management, and I obviously just witnessed that. Personally I feel this workers behavior should be grounds for dismissal, but seeing how the boss is equally as nasty, I am not surprised and probably nothing will happen.
I would encourage everyone to avoid this store until ownership takes responsibility and apologizes, and personally feel the employee should be fired.
