Summary: Good on its own, doesn’t cut it in NYC
I’m a chef so I can’t comment with much expertise in regards to the decor, but I think it looks really dang cool. Although when I think of a funhouse I think of funky mirrors. Seems like a missed opportunity.
The Pizza:
Wait time: about 4 min. I appreciated the server asking if I wanted a char on my slice or just a reheat, some folks are all about the char, I usually am, but for a review slice I like to try and keep it basic as possible.
Serving temp: piping hot, it makes a difference. I like hot food
Sauce: tasty, well seasoned. You can tell there’s garlic and herbs in it. Well done.
Cheese: Disappointing. With the really nice sauce it’s a shame the cheese has no flavor, def a lower end mozzarella. It was very nicely melted, though.
Crust: Not great, under the sauce it felt a little thick. There’s good texture on the top and bottom of the crust, but in between you get hints of wet, undercooked dough. This is especially noticeable on the edge crust. More salt in the dough, a little thinner and maybe use a better olive oil and I think you can make something really special.
Pepperoni: Way too thin, I loved how crispy they were, but without enough of the pepperoni fat rendering out into the cheese the slice just doesn’t scream pepperoni. It tastes like a cheese slice with pepperoni on it, instead of a pepperoni slice.
Not bad for pizza, but in New York you gotta step it up. There is potential for a great slice here, but it needs more refinement.
