Where to Find Delicious Pizza Slices in Chicago

"Pizza Metro has reinvented itself. One of the OG Roman pizza spots, delicious combos like rosemary and potato were available to the late-night crow along Division Street in Wicker Park. The new Pizza Metro has matured. There’s not as much nocturnal activity along the stretch, and the pizzeria has added pastries. The pizza remains the same, it’s just not a late-night oasis anymore." - Brandon Summers-Miller, Eater Staff

Chicago’s Upcoming Restaurants and Bars to Know, Fall/Winter 2022 - Eater Chicago

"Pizza Metro, which has been closed for the summer isn’t permanently shuttered at 1707 W. Division Street. Many feared the worst after seeing the windows papered up. Owner Marco Schiavoni emails Eater Chicago writing that his Roman-style pizza shop, a clutch late-night eatery, will reopen in mid-October after they freshen up the space." - Naomi Waxman

My first visit back since they reopened. The pizza seems slightly different than before, but still so good. My friend got a sausage pizza, and I got a small Buona pizza. The crust was nice and crispy, something about the pepperoni hit different for me, was so good. Haven’t had a chance to try the pastries yet, they seemed mostly sold by dinner time. I was told the hours were 11 am to 10 pm, so I hope to stop by near opening time soon and try some pastries, they look killer from others’ reviews! Not much seating inside, but outdoor seating on the sidewalk in front. Street parking only.

Google
Had hoped … but no. It says Roman pizza, and potato and rosemary sounded good. I’ve eaten it in Rome: fresh rosemary, sliced cooked potatoes, a lovely, fresh risen base quickly shaped, and a good oven. But here the base had been baked (much) earlier. Tomato sauce, parboiled potatoes, basic cheese, and a dusting of dried rosemary later, it was heating up. A sad, not very tasty concoction on a dried cracker resulted. Ah well.

I have been going to this neighborhood pizza joint for over 10 years, they have the best garbage pizza in the city. It’s incredible. The dough has a nice salt content, that matches the cheese perfectly. I can’t say enough how wonderful this pizza and owner is. Keep this business going because it will be a neighborhood and city loss if we lose this pizza.

Google
This review is for their pastries! This place has been closed for a while and after reopening the owner has been focusing on authentic Italian pastries and wow are they good! got the cream filled croissant (I forget what Italian name is sorry). It was so fresh as they we’re just pulling them out. I also got a latte with espresso and that was enjoyable too. The owner and staff were friendly and I can’t wait to be back for more pastries! Hopefully the pizza comes back soon too as I love pizza! Updated as I went back for the cream filled donut called bomboloni and it was delicious!!

It is time to give Marco credit about what is doing. After more than 20 years, he reinvented his pizza, using new flour. The results is amazing : his pizza napoletana is unique, combining the style of Roma with a great flavor. The place is small, I gave 5 for Service and. Atmosphere because if you go there Wed and Thursday, when Marco is serving his customers, you will fall in love with his Roman accent and the fact that there will be 4-5 Italians there talking with him. A free course of Italian language! Do not talk about Lazio with him though! Also, the real hidden gem is the Pasta ai Quattro Formaggi, no other place in Chicago offers this pasta.

Google
Roman style square pizza, the crust has a perfect crisp, the sauce is well balanced. We tried margherita and buona- both were great! We did a pick up which was easy since you can order ahead.

Google
My husband and I went here on a whim! One of the Best decision that we ever made. We had the garbage pizza! SO DIVINE. I don’t even like many ingredients on top of my pizza, but this garbage pizza was superb. I can’t even describe the greatness that we had. We loved it. We met the owner who we had a great convo with. We can’t wait to go back.

Google
Wow! Please go support this place! They are serving gourmet level classic Italian pastries - they are absolutely delicious and incredible! We need gems like this in our city. Everyone speaking Italian and drinking espresso! I’m still dreaming about the maritozzo! You can tell they use fresh and ingredients for baking. I can’t wait for the pizza to come back.

Yelp
Very good pizza, their Mahabharata pizza is the best around. Fast delivery and pizza was hot upon arrival

Yelp
It was something different. The Roman pizza I've had in the past and it's been more bready.Metro was more dense than I expected. It was pretty decent while it was hot, but I feel that each square slice was inconsistent. Some slices were better than others. Also, I thought I was ordering a regular style cheese pizza and a Roman style margarita, but they were both roman style. They had a good deal going via door dash and I did do a pick up from there.

Yelp
We used to like this place but, ugh, something bad has happened to them. We ordered the potato pizza and the crust was burned but the potatoes were raw. The first and hopefully last time I just threw away a pizza.
google avatar

Sam V.

Yelp
Ugh, awful pizza. And I love all styles of pizza and ordered a medium pepperoni and tossed out half. Crust was too buttery, tasted like like the cans of Pilsbury dough from the store. Hardly any sauce and I hate how they only give you one piece of pepperoni per square.
google avatar

Tito C.

Yelp
This is my 3rd time here, but I was pretty disappointed. The pizza was a bit cold and the cheese was barely melted. I let them know but they seemed to have shrugged it off.
google avatar

Marge S.

Yelp
Garbage pizza is the absolute best! Would take that any day over Lou's or Gino's. Run, don't walk, to go try it!
google avatar

Yelp
So I still haven't had the pizza from pizza metro yet, but the Bombolini was so good. We tried one with custard and one with Nutella filling. Great for that sweet tooth craving at breakfast with a coffee!

Yelp
Okay so this review is NOT for pizza but I will update if I try in the future. This review is for their pastries! Yelp
The new pizza pinsa - low gluten content dough is light , fluffy and delicious . The other type pizzas are great too. I had the biggest pistachio filled croissant ever! The baked good are excellent. Authentic Italian.

Yelp
This place was really hyped to me, and I didn't think it hit quite as it was described to me. I'm willing to give it another shot though. I got the potato and Rosemary pizza, and I wouldn't get it again. My friend got the Margherita and buffalo chicken, and I really liked the Buffalo chicken. I think I just don't really prefer this style of pizza. They have the dough already made it they just lay the toppings and sauce on it and reheat it. I think if you're going to order one you want to get one with a lot of toppings because the dough doesn't really add a ton of flavor. They did have some of the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had. We ate outside after they made our food very quickly. They have a few tables outside in front.

Yelp
Feel like I was hustled. I was walking home and decided to grab a slice. I was shocked when I got to the register and was told it was $8.85. But I ordered it so I paid and as I walked a block away by Wendy's took a bite. Ice cold. I'm sorry if you're going to charge me $9 for a slice of pizza can u at least heat it up. I live 500 feet from you and as an Sicilian New Yorker love pizza and when I saw you re opened was excited. Sadly I would rather have little Caesar's than this.

Yelp
We got a Mista Salad, barbecue pizza, arugula & prosciutto, and pepperoni with fresh basil. I can't even pick A favorite because they were all so delicious. Service was great and they were super quick. This will definitely be my new spot, not to mention the prices are awesome especially for this area. 11/10!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This pizza is just meh. No love or hate towards it it's just bland and boring. If you're starving and don't have a lot of time on your hands Pizza Metro will satisfy a need. But if you want more of an experience than just calories look elsewhere.
google avatar

Leilani L.

Yelp
My favorite pizza place in the city. I'll wait an hour for my pizza because they're that damn good. My brother introduced me to this place over 10 years ago. My picks are the potato pizza and the margherita. There's just something about that crust!

Nikki N.

Yelp
My food was burnt, even the fries. I usually go there and the food is pretty good but the usual cook was not there. I was super disappointed, my bread was burnt on the outside and soggy on the inside. Wasted my money, I will never go again unless the cook is there.

Yelp
Update: real classy response by the owner below cursing at me in Italian, hilarious, guess I'll change it to 1 star. Right back at you Marco. Hey Marco, since you think you're funny mocking me and my page, let's talk about you? Do you even live in Chicago or do you live in the suburbs 40 minutes away? "Support local" more like Support a buffoon from the suburbs who blabs about right wing government conspiracies. That's the cherry on top for me as you like to say. You can do a lot better in this neighborhood and this city than this guy ---- This place looked kind of dirty to me, a tall pile of crusts just laying around out in the open (if you look through the pics on here you'll see it too so it wasn't a one time thing) turned me off, gave me Boboli vibes. In 2021 there are many good Roman style pizza options in Chicago, I can think of at least 3 off the top of my head, and much more if you're open to other styles. I love Rome, AS Roma, grew up in Italy, forza Roma but I have to be honest on here, I was disappointed.

Yelp
Tasty bite of Margherita pizza! It's not like the Margherita pizzas that I'm used to but nevertheless I enjoyed it I ate it right at the bar fresh out of the oven. Not too cheesy and the basil on top was a nice touch.
google avatar

Yelp
THE neighborhood pizza joint. When we first moved into this neighborhood, we were looking for our "pizza spot" and we found it at pizza metro. FACTS: pizza metro is unassuming but the za is spectacular. It's always speedy (10 minutes speedy). We love the square cut. The crust is great. Perfect for sharing. The crispiness. Just bc it's thin doesn't mean it's lacking in toppings. Buttery and flavorful crust. #StickOfButter. Just good people. our Za recommendations: + Buona (a crowd pleaser) + Proccttio and Arugula + Spinach, goat cheese and garlic (our own creation) Also pairs great with bud light lime.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! Delicious authentic Italian food at a very reasonable price. I've been to Pizza Metro several times since moving to Wicker Park and every visit has been a great experience. I've tried the quatro formaggi pizza and the gnocchi with sausage and both were incredible, especially at this price point. All the ingredients are very fresh and high quality. Pizza metro is a must try!

Yelp
This review is for dine-in service, as I have heard mixed things about the delivery. Came in on a Saturday for lunch and ordered the marinara and the procuitto and arugula slices. Both were made after ordering and both were amazing!!! The quality of toppings, the quantity of procuitto, and the sauce were all on point. The service was excellent and I would highly recommend if in the area to come in and grab a slice. Tip- slices here are rectangle, or Roman style, but if you are hungry, two slices should be about right.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Great Calamari and Chicken Wings. Portions are generous. Sadly both pizzas were burned along the sides of the crust. Ordered the Garbage pizza and Hawaiian pizza. Very skimpy toppings on the Hawaiian pizza and sauce had much to be desired. Honestly you burn the crust on the pizza...maybe it is time to rethink who is cooking it...I make pizza at home and do not get those results... Ordered take out....would not order again...
google avatar

Erik B.

Yelp
Don't feel like spending 28 bucks for some chicken parm? Neither do I. So go ahead and grab this goodness for about $14. Tastes good and generous portions for the price. You can use the money you save on some pizza or some panna cotta or a tiramisu. Just do you boo boo.

Yelp
I have had this place bookmarked for awhile now, I finally got an opportunity to go. First of all the owner is super sweet and boasts about the freshness and authenticity of his food. They make fresh pastas, desserts, and my favorite- pizza. I came for a slice and end up getting 2. I ordered the Margarita and convinced from the owner to get the potato/rosemary. They were made fresh in front and was ready in 7 minutes. This pizza was thin, crispy and soft where it needs to be. The flavors of both very good but a little dry for me. I will order a side of sauce next time. The restaurant itself is tiny- there is seating at the bar and maybe 4 additional tables.
google avatar

Samone R.

Yelp
Ordered pizza and it never showed up. Not the first time either. I love the pizza but this isn't the first time this has happened. Usually they forget to send pop that I paid for too.

Yelp
It's hard to imagine Pizza Metro ever being more than a three-star eatery to me, with solid offerings and close-to-fair prices around the corner from my house. If I absolutely had to have pizza and Dante's new spot at California/Augusta or Craft Pizza both burned to the ground...I might still order from Art of Pizza and wait before doing the pizza at Pizza Metro first. That said, the slice of Margherita I had this week was fine, and for $3-$4 you will always have choices of Roman-cut pizza on offer. The cheese was OK, and the crust was also OK. Nothing special, but it was pizza and I've definitely had worse in my time here. The meatball sub flashed real potential, though. While the fries were a miss, the bread on that sub was perfect for my needs and the meatballs themselves were quite good and full of flavor. But there were only three meatballs (smaller ones at that) on my 6" sub. I'm going to need at least one more full-sized meatball before I can recommend this thing, because the sub had too many gaps of not enough meat...not cool! Servers were friendly behind the counter, and there's some space to eat in at a counter if you are burning for the need to chow on site.

Yelp
I was kinda iffy when I first seen the slice tbh. We stumbled upon this spot after hitting up VinnyDs for some shaved ice .. we went kindve basic and just got a slice of sausage sat down and I'm going to be completely honest with you .. I'm born and raised in Chicago and this pizza was screaming CPS school lunch slice!!!!!! Don't let the look steer you away it's pretty freakin great! This pizza and shaved ice is a great munchy combo!!
google avatar

Kris B.

Yelp
It's not that difficult . When you order extra sauce there should be extra an amount that would be more than normal. The order was just a cheese pizza with extra sauce. If someone ordered a regular cheese pizza there must be no sauce whatsoever. The crust was basically raw and the most frugal amount of cheese .it was my only ingredient. A frozen Connie's pizza would win over this pizza anyday.
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to get Pizza Metro but they certainly have some incredible late night pizza. I like that they have a couple options beyond just cheese and pepperoni and love that "slices" are actually 6 mini squares which makes splitting slices super easy. The pizza is fine, nothing to blow you away but good pizza. I get it when I'm in the area. Service is good and the patio is great on late summer nights.
google avatar

Romana Y.

Yelp
Sausage: 3.5 Sausage and mushroom: 3.5 Delivery time- 40 minutes on average after midnight.
google avatar

Ario T.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite and ultimate go-to neighborhood spots for pizza in wicker park. I never get sick of it and it's definitely consistent and delicious!!! I will forever order from here and love all of their pizza menu options.
google avatar

Shanda M.

Yelp
I have never inhaled a pizza as fast as I did this one. I ordered the bbq chicken pizza... holy Moses this was soooo good. The crust was crispy and thin/thick, and delicious. I've never been to Italy, and now I don't need to go, because I can just come to pizza metro and get a better pizza. I ordered a medium pizza because last time i ordered a small from (redacted) i was still soo hungry after... medium was enough for 2 meals. ALSO (if you're still reading) reheated in a skillet with a cover and *chefs kiss* Freaking fantastic! 10/10 recommend.
google avatar

Peter B.

Yelp
Had this Pizza for the first time and it was great! We did carry out for the Bears Game. Did a large margherita pizza as the base and added pepperoni, green peppers, and garlic. Nice buttery crust and it filled about 4 people. The cheesy garlic bread was okay. Overall If you don't mind square style pizza, this place is great!
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
Best pizza. Just high quality food and none of the frills because they don't need it it's just delicious. This isn't a sit down and stay place really (no tables just the bar) but who cares it's so good. They deliver and you can get the large and eat for a week
google avatar

Charleene R.

Yelp
I'm done ordering from this place. They messed up my order again. For as many times as this place has been my go-to, the employee I just got off the phone with had no care in the world that my order was wrong. He offered to credit my account but that's not the point... just deliver what I order. I get people make mistakes but when it's happened more than twice, hell, more like 5 times already, I'm done.

Carina B.

Yelp
Best Roman pizza in Chicago - HANDS down, prices are super fair too. The owner is awesome. Definitely don't skip out on their homemade desserts!
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
Sorry the pictures look so sparse, but the food was so good and we were so hungry, we couldn't wait and started eating immediately and pictures took a backseat. We had the calamari and BBQ chicken pizza. The calamari was heavenly and not over cooked or rubbery. The pizza was a new try for us and a pleasant surprise. Will definitely order this again. And best thing is the pizza was just as good the next day, reheated. The "cherry on top" was the panna cotta which was creamy, smooth and melt in your mouth. The profiteroles were really good also.
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
Not quite sure what to think here. My wife and I just moved to Wicker Park and after a long day of moving boxes, we were craving pizza. With this spot being, just around the corner, I was eager to try. Ordered a Large Pepperoni and Buffalo Wings. The hardest part is trying to decipher wether the pizza was really that great or if I was just starving. It reminded my of a "better-frozen-pizza-from-Red-Baron" Who knows if it actually make, sense, but it tasted good at the time, but I have to take 1 star off because if was almost $40 for a Pizza and 6 wings. I more or less agree that the overall reviews on this places are an accurate representation of my experience.
google avatar

Begum M.

Yelp
Dont order Profiterole. It is a ice cream filled cookie, no where near close to a profiterole.
google avatar

Timberly B.

Yelp
Sicilian style pizza! Trust me you only need a slice to be full! Very reasonably priced and the staff is super friendly and attentive. Wings are also good too! Glad I got a chance to try this place while visiting one of my favorite cities.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in the neighborhood. Buffalo Chicken Pizza, Margherita Pizza, Quattro Formaggio are all phenomenal. The staff does a quick and amazing job. Highly recommend it after ordering here for over 6 years!
google avatar

Janie Z.

Yelp
Finally tried this neighborhood spot tonight for takeout! We got the Buona and it did not disappoint. Only comment is that it was a little greasy, but otherwise was delicious. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Reinaldo A.

Yelp
We went here for a quick saturday afternoon lunch. The salads we ordered were tasty, the service was friendly and our food was served fast enough. We tried some pizza on the side but ended up liking our salads more. We sat outside to eat. There was a guy outside working on his own somewhat strange but very creative art. It made for some nice background entertainment. Even if not meant as such.

A. R.

Yelp
I ordered 2 pizzas (one cheese, one pepperoni) and a Caesar salad. It cost me over $100 with delivery and there was no sauce on the pizza. Either one! Why is this place so well reviewed by everyone? I have the world's most expensive cheese bread and no one will eat it. What a waste of money.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
The fact that this delightful little establishment doesn't appear on any of the Chicago's Best Pizza lists from the likes of Thrillist, Timeout, Chicagoist, etc. is a true travesty. This is legitimate Italian pizza, just like they serve in Rome. I'm a huge fan of their Rosemary & Potato (trust me, it's delicious) pizza, and I usually don't even bother ordering anything else. Service is great! My pizza is always ready and piping hot when I come to pick it up and the prices are affordable, especially for the area. Next time you feel like being douchetastic and overpaying for mediocre pizza at Parlor, just sneak in a pizza from Pizza Metro and have a beer next to your bros.
google avatar

Kari A.

Yelp
Pizza metro is soooo good best pizza on division I must say. The crust is like a focaccia bread soft and crunchy on the outside so delicious!!! The cheese and sauce you can tell is beyond fresh! Reasonably priced as well!! Great service if you do sit outside but also great service overall with their window option, carry out and delivery. So happy I found pizza metro !!!!!!
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the pizza! I was also happy that the spinach on my pizza was sautéed as opposed to just throwing raw spinach on them. The wings were normal buffalo wings, good but nothing special. The ranch that came with it was not good. The lobster ravioli was good but there was a little shredded lobster in them as opposed to larger chunks like they have at RPM Italian. Overall, I'd stick to the pizza.
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
In a place like Chicago, considering all the other places you could get pizza, it's a miracle this place is still in business. I ordered a slice to to-go. It was sausage and pepperoni. They made it to order it was made up of six 2 inch by 2 inch squares and it wasn't even good I was very disappointed to say the very least and it cost me $5.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This place is legit. Thin crust pizza with quality toppings. We got grilled chicken and margarita. I thought both were delicious. Note though I may have been slightly inebriated. Garlic bread was also amazing. Bread was baguette style, and it came with marinara dipping sauce. Server was kind and service was fast. Don't order on Yelp, according to the server there are coupons and deals that are available if you call. What more can I ask for? Awesome late night joint for the late night munchies.

Yelp
As a tourist craving some late night Italian food in the Wicker Park, I'm so thankful that this local eatery was open to fulfill my craving. Our group ordered some medium Hawaiian thin crust pizza (with sausage) and meat lasagna online expecting that it would take over an hour. Thankfully, it took a lot less time for the order to be ready for pick up. I enjoyed the pizza and was grateful for the small square slices because I do not have the discipline to stop eating on my own. Unfortunately, the meat lasagna was too good to share so I finished it all by my lonesome. I'm glad I had the chance to support this local restaurant before saying my goodbye to good ol' Chi-town. Would recommend for anyone in the area
