Best Pizza Restaurants in Asheville, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"The owners of West Asheville mainstay West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen created another anchor to Haywood Road when they opened Pizza Mind in 2016. Pies here are crispy bar-style numbers with toppings like Carolina barbecue, taco, buffalo chicken, and roasted beets with cauliflower. There’s a sports-bar-esque vibe in the dining room, but Pizza Mind’s staff will also carry orders to Archetype, the brewery next door." - Eric Barton

Best Lunch Spots in Asheville, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Known for innovative pizzas (the Happy Wheel pizza tastes just like a Big Mac), Pizza Mind has been a staple in West AVL since 2017. Got little ones? Pizza Mind offers make-your-own pizza for kids to build their own pie, including tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni." - Lyndsay Cordell

This was our first time trying pizza from this restaurant, and it was delicious. We ordered a medium Supreme pizza and a Ground Beef and Italian Sausage with Pineapple medium pizza, and an order of BBQ chicken wings. The BBQ chicken wings were some of the best we have ever had from a pizza restaurant. The greeting we received when we walked into the door was friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place.

We had an afternoon in Asheville and I was really wanting pizza. We found this treasure on Google and decided to go. What a great lunch we had. We ordered the fries green beans to start they are extra crispy and good, served with ranch. Then we ordered two small pizzas. One was called the arugala and was so good. It has pickles onions on it as well that really helped elevate the pizza. The crust was delicious. We also ordered the doctor which is basically meat and jalapenos. Yum. Both pizzas were great and we loved our experience. Highly recommend.

Google
My favorite thing to order here is their arugula pizza. I am right next door so I often get it to go and they are so amazing at packing it to make sure the fresh ingredients don’t get soggy. I also love their buffalo chicken sandwich. I’ve only had one bad thing here and that was the buffalo cauliflower - it was just wet cauliflower lol. But I’m glad I kept going and trying new things because everything else is great. And the employees have always been very nice and helpful.

We took a ride to Asheville for lunch and really wanted pizza. The reviews on this place were good, so we tried it. Wow! Glad we did. First of all, our server Rebekah was really fantastic. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the place. I had (I wish I could remember the name of it) a rum based cocktail with mango. Delicious! Probably better on a summer day than on a day it was as flurrying, but still worth while. The wings were fantastic. Juicy and very plump. Cooked exactly right. The side of Mac n cheese was not what I expected. I'm NOT a fan of peppers and this had a peppery taste at first. But after the first few bites, my pallet really enjoyed all the flavors. Side salads were good and pretty large, too. The pizza was definitely the star of the show. More artisan than NY style with excellent flavor and delicious crust. We always test new places with the same pizza - sausage and mushroom. This was absolutely perfect. And the place offers both mild and spicy sausage, too. Overall, A+ for everything. We will definitely be back

Google
West Asheville is really a foodie’s delight. There’s coffee shops and restaurants abound and Pizza Mind is the place for exceptional pizza. The pizza itself is a good size, with one large providing satisfying slices. We had the supreme and it was flavorful, with loads of toppings. Oh, and if you think the cheese tastes better than most pizza cheeses, it does because they have their own personal blend of cheeses. This isn’t your basic pizza and it shows that thought and care are put into the food. Simply put, it’s really good pizza. Would recommend.

We got into town on a Monday and decided to get pizza from here for dinner and glad we did. It is a solid pizza choice. The supreme pizza was tasty and not too much, and our personal pizza (sausage, hamburger and pineapple) was also good. The crust had a slight char in places without being hard, and was still chewy. Also, appreciated that there wasn’t too much sauce going on. We also did BBQ wings and they were a nice size and the sauce was good. It was also ready in under 20 minutes!

We live over in Erwin, TN 50min away, and were down in Asheville. We were actually at the business across the street trying to figure out where to go eat. The guys recommended Pizza Mind, and we said sold. There is inside and outside patio seating super cute. Reminded me of Sarasota, FL, the area near Siesta Key vibe, but in the mountains, we lived in SWFL for 36 years. They were busy, only like a 15-20 min wait. The host suggested we sit at the bar, but there were not two seats together. Some man then walked over to us and said he was alone and would move down one, so we thanked him and the host and off to the bar it was. I did appreciate that the host didn't have his cell phone on him, but yall need to get a clock up there so they know what time it is. He had to ask me when we were going to add our name to the wait list. All of the girls behind the bar were super sweet. I can't for the life of me remember the drink I ordered but it was amazing. It was made with bourbon and was strong, yummy, and pretty. I ordered the hot Italian and waffle fries. My only complaint with the Italian was the sausage. I loved the added flavor to the sandwich, but it's a mess. It makes it very hard to pick the sandwich up and eat it without everything falling out of the bottom. I tried a knife and fork, but that wasn't working any better. With that being said, I still will order it again because the flavors were definitely there, and it tasted wonderful. The waffle fries were the best I've ever had. My husband had the chicken parm sandwich and side of mac n cheese. My pappy immigrated to America from Italy. Not only did my husband love the sandwich, but it was also hands down the best I've ever tried. Of course, aside from my nonas. I'm getting it the next time we go. Now that Mac n cheese. Not only do I come from an Italian family, I come from an appalachian Italian family. This mac n cheese, I mean, just order it. I promise. You WILL thank me later. This place was so amazing that not only will we be back, but I will make the drive there specifically just to come back to Pizza Mind. I can't wait to try the fried greenbeans!!!!

Google
Excellent pizza, probably one of the better in the Asheville area that I've tried. It was a thin crust but held up pretty well and without much flop. Quality toppings and reasonable prices. Friendly staff as well.

Yelp
Always great tasting pizza and beer. Staff is friendly, service is great and the food comes out fairly quickly. Love the NY vibe of the crust but all the ingredients are great. We usually make up our own meat-lovers or Hawaiian toppings but their variety is impressive and the others are also great. Great take-out and dine-in service, we have done both.

Yelp
Swung by Pizza Mind for a quick snack on a Tuesday afternoon and was delighted with some good food. We opted for some of the patio seating outside and got to ordering. My wife got a small Caesar salad and really enjoyed it, noted how flavorful it was and liked the dressing as well. We then split the Doctor pizza with a sesame crust to make things more interesting. Pizza was tasty and came with plenty of toppings of jalapeño and chopped onion. Our server was quick and attentive, nice little place next to Archetype Brewing which plenty of folks were bringing pizza over to.

Yelp
Very good vibes. A perfectly cooked NY style crust. We enjoyed the Doctor pie. Very tasty!! Kaylee made our visit even better with her excellent service!

Yelp
Becca our waitress was amazing. I went with some friends and had the amazing fried green beans. I had a make my own pizza with fried chicken bbq sauce caramelized onions, and spinach. It was very fresh affordable and soooo tasty!! I love the atmosphere. Beer menu looks great but this was a work trip. Check out my TT @tarheelfoodie828

Yelp
I agree with the Asheville blogger... this is the best pizza place in West Asheville! Champ server- Rebekah- thank you! The buffalo cauliflower wasn't the usual fried one like some other places... and it was so good. I liked this buffalo cauliflower better than fried. Kids got to make their own pizza which they enjoyed!! Fun times for kids! We got 10 inch create your own and it was priced just right IMO. Cute ambiance with unique decorations and feels cozy & casual. Oh did I mention the pizza is wood fired (my favorite!) Give this place a try and let me know what you think.

Yelp
The arugula pizza is not to be missed! Definitely support this local business. Will be back.

Yelp
Loooove Pizza Mind! My bf is gluten-sensitive and their GF crust is so, so good. Regular pizza is fantastic as well!

Yelp
Visited with my kids while on vacation. Easy going atmosphere. Not anything fancy inside, but very clean (which is so important while dining with kids) and various photos/art on the wall. Kids had fun picking out a picture of their favorite dog/pup. Kiddos were excited about making and building their own pizza. They got already rolled out dough and containers with sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Then they got to work putting it together. Once pizza was picked up, it didn't take much time to bring it back fully baked. It was enough pizza for 2 kids. Kids all gave this place 5 stars - that's a win! My food was great too - fried green tomato sandwich. Service was pleasant and quick. Just what we needed for a nice lunch. Would love to come back next time we are in Asheville.

Yelp
so...this is our fave pizza joint in asheville...they do a great job w vegan options. we just had an amazing pickle & caramelized onions w vegan cheeze...it was so yummy. just saw that our receipt (which we did not scrutinize when we picked up our order) had a 5% "take out packaging" fee. how long have they been charging this?! wtf?? is there even an option to *not* use their pizza boxes ...bring our own box? carry it away in our hands? c'mon pizza mind...your to-go packaging is the the cost of doing business . how dare you pass on to customer? would you rather have the $40 pizza cost or the 1.85 fee? you don't get both.

Yelp
I came to Archetype for an after work beer and ordered the small buffalo chicken pizza at Pizza Mind to complement it. The ordering was smooth and I could walk and pick it up. It was a perfect, cheesy, buffalo forward with a lasting heat that i needed. I liked how the toppings went almost to the edge of the crust. And some extra cheese on the crust was super crispy. Small was a perfect size for 2 on date night!

Yelp
Came here with the wife and kids for dinner on a Saturday evening. The kids loved the arcade games and claw machine. The make your own pizza option was also a big hit. Ordered salads, pizza, and a cheese steak. All the food was awesome. Service was also very good. Overall, Pizza Mind is a family friendly, tasty option.
google avatar

Yelp
Got a small jambalaya pizza to go to split between the two of us. Personally a bit too much food for one but not quite enough for two depending how hungry you are. Had side classic and greek salads which made it fulfilling. Pizza tasted basically like a supreme; didn't taste the old bay at all. Overall pretty good. In a nice location next to archetype brewing

Yelp
Was looking for a place to grab a late lunch/early dinner on a Monday afternoon and there were very few available options in the immediate area but Pizza Mind was open and across the street from us. They have some interesting pizza options and the sandwiches looked appetizing on the menu as well. We split a small pizza and sandwich to try a few things. The Jambalaya pizza was quite good with the crust possibly being the best part. Was almost too thin in the center to successfully pickup slices with the hearty amount of toppings but the outside was cooked to crispy perfection. The Ashephilly Cheesesteak seemed like the winner and while the choice of pimento beer cheese sounded good it was a bit of a soupy mess to eat as the cheese was nearly liquid. I'd suggest going with the sharp provolone instead. They have some tabasco-based hot sauce you can ask for on the side but if you want to add any ranch dressing that'll cost a little extra (it's homemade).

Yelp
I came here about an hour after landing from from SFO. I really appreciated the staff. The restaurant was spacious so I wasn't worried about the fact I may have brought COVID with me. High ceilings always make me feel better! The wait person totally reminded me of home, which was a welcome in itself. She was kind. The bartender was sweet, and worked with me on finding the perfect beer. Yum! The person from the kitchen who delivered my pizza also offered a smile. I ordered the BBQ chicken. It was my fist full meal of the day and I almost ate all of it!! I would check it out. It's also family friendly. There was a big group leaving as I arrived.

Yelp
Really good pizza and attentive staff. We had a large mushroom and it was very good, my wife loved it too and is not nearly as big a fan of pizza as me. Place has a Cheers-y kind of vibe to it, but not like a chain.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Great place with lovely staff. Good at taking COVID 19 protocols seriously. Nice menu and delicious pizzas. We got two beers to start as they have a great beer list. They were brought out pretty fast and we're great pours. We ordered a pizza with jalapeños and pineapple. While the combo was fun, i wish they had been more liberal with toppings. It was rare to get one of each in a bite- annoying as that was the point. The base (pizza especially crust) was great though. They did accidental bring us the wrong beer and give it for feee- hooray! Very nice people. Will be back to try another. Also fyi- large is great for two people to share and have decent leftovers :)

Yelp
Great food! They got us right in with no wait. Decided to try something new and the Carolina BBQ Chicken pizza was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
This place tastes like an average pizza. Better stuff in Asheville. But just a chill place to eat pizza.
google avatar

Jillian S.

Yelp
Flavorful, unique pizzas. After touring the Biltmore we were hungry and ready to eat dinner. We decided to order pick up from Pizza Mind. I was excited to see a beet and cauliflower pizza on the menu. Our order was accurate and ready upon arrival. The pizza was as good as I hoped and the wings were better than we thought they would be. Overall we enjoyed our meal and recommend this establishment to others.

Yelp
I just stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch but this place has been on my list of places to try for a good long time. They are right on Beachums corner in west Asheville. Great service. Great Chicken Parm Sandwich! Great location. Highly recommended
google avatar

Savannah L.

Yelp
My husband says Pizza Mind had the best Philly cheesesteak sub and I really enjoyed the pizza. I'd def go back. The atmosphere was chill there and staff were friendly.

Sandra B.

Yelp
The Hot Italian sandwich is FABULOUS! Great service. Great place. Cocktails, too. Loved it all.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Really good pizza and beer selections! Beats the busy downtown ashville spots, easy parking and good food.
google avatar

Yelp
Fabulous pizza, friendly and efficient staff, family atmosphere in a convenient location with parking! My friend suggested Pizza Mind for a rendezvous after work. I'd not heard of it before (I'm still fairly new to Asheville) but I'm glad I found it now. Highly recommend. For me, it's 6 min from work and on the way home, so you can bet I'll be stopping by for pick up orders.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I were having a few beers at Archetype West when we decided to try Pizza Mind next door. Thank God we did. Their pizza was delicious. The crust was chewy and crunchy and there were plenty of toppings. We ordered The Doctor. The jalapenos were fresh but didn't kill the pizza with heat. We also loved the sauce. This is a must visit as is Archetype West.

Spencer T.

Yelp
Arugula pizza was DELISH!!! Service was awsome. The ambiance was decent. My Angie and nephew made their own pizzas and they loved it! Will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Ganga S.

Yelp
Quite surprised this spot doesn't have more reviews! They have the best pizza in town. So flavorful, so many topping options and the pizza is HUGE! We've introduced this to so many people, and they have agreed that it's the BEST pizza they have in Asheville! Honestly, I have nothing more to say, THIS IS AMAZING PIZZA, and if you don't try it, you're definitely missing out.
google avatar

Jackie J.

Yelp
Man, they did me dirty. I ordered a pizza To go, and it was so burnt on the bottom, that was pretty much all I could taste :( obviously didn't realize this until I got home.
google avatar

Frances W.

Yelp
The pictures don't do this place justice. We had great service and the food was even better. I'll definitely be back. I had the white pizza but I wanted more flair and our server suggested I add spinach or chicken, I went went the mushrooms and they were so delectable. We also ordered a custom pizza too which was also really delicious. Can't wait to try other pizza!
google avatar

Gretchen L.

Yelp
This review is for the beet pizza. It is the best. Just awesome. Wouldn't expect it- Yeah, it's not "traditional". But damn. It just works. Love it. Tried to make it at home and it doesn't compare. Take a chance and give the golden beets a go! Always had great customer service here too! Kind, nice folks. Attentive and quick to fix and errors in an order.
google avatar

Dunn F.

Yelp
Yummiest pizza! I promise you I will not settle for a Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar ever again after experiencing this tasty, fresh gift from God. Dog friendly patio! Score! Heated patio! Score! Awesome bartender Genevieve and the perfect waitress Savannah! Score! My fiancé (with dog Ernie) and I were happy to leave home and take refuge here for about an hour. We had too much wine, but we didn't care. We should have gotten a smaller pizza, but we didn't care. You see a thread here? We were living our best life at Pizza Mind. Beet ravioli and meat lover's pizza! Score!
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
You guys I'm gonna blow your mind: Pizza is best when it's fresh out of the oven. So anyway we got there and the place was pretty full but the staff cranked through tables, bussing and turning as quick as I've seen. This review is a love letter to our server and the cooks. Our server was BUSY when we showed up but she was a consummate professional. This lady had every step under control, and even stopped her hands full to get my order for extra ranch (and more diet lol) and didn't forget anything. What a blessing. These cooks, friends, are doing the job so well some folks might say it's easy. It is not. You don't get cold romaine on top of hot pizza without timing the rest of the order right. You don't get crisp batter on green beans without timing it right. Your food runners don't come back to help you if you f up their orders, so yes, cooks, this letter is to you. Thank you. And thanks to the whole team for making a pretty basic pizza stop better than. Anyway, the food was good too. Crisp crust, springy and enough body to support what was basically a whole burrito on a slice. The pepperoni had that why-can't-I-do-this-at-home flavor and the toppings were plentiful. Besides that, parking in the overflow lot was no big and well lit. Dine in, enjoy yourselves and let the kids waste some money on the claw machine.

Sharon L.

Yelp
We have been enjoying the food from pizza mind since we moved here 2 years ago. Last night I ordered at 6:05 and was told 20-25 minutes. By 6:40 they were saying a few more minutes. We finally got our order at 6:55 and the pizza was cold! Definitely not coming back for a long time!!!

Laura W.

Yelp
Was just in the mood for a good vegetarian pizza, but wanted to try a place we hadn't been to before...BEST pizza find EVER!! Can't wait to return (yum!)
google avatar

Russell G.

Yelp
Hallelujah / Halleluya!!!! OMG ‼ No matter how you spell it y'all, as someone who has a gluten allergy and has sadly had to lower his expectations on quality gluten free pizza to the point I almost gave up looking - I cannot describe the sheer shock, elation and tastebud disco dance from my first bite into my Caprese gluten free pie slice This is hands down the best gluten free pizza I have had in 15 years! If you are gf - run don't walk to PIZZA MIND! On top of everything the staff is super chill, nice and very accommodating! Easy access with ample parking. I hope they are ready for me to move in!
google avatar

Nick And Rebecca H.

Yelp
An absolute favorite for our kids and so easy to enjoy while sitting at Archetype (which is next door). The Margherita pizza is always a hit for us and it is consistently delicious!
google avatar

Tulsi P.

Yelp
This spot was delicious! Great beers and food. The pizza was nice and crispy. I loved the beet and cauliflower pizza, I added jalapeños and portobello mushrooms and it was perfect! The buffalo chicken pizza was decent too. They have a wide variety of draft beers and it was a great combo with the pizza.

Sarah H.

Yelp
The unique flavors of this place is what makes it good. The beet and cauliflower pizza is delish. The staff was also very friendly. Recommend!
google avatar

Shell B.

Yelp
Not bad. I would try it again if I was in town. It seemed that the ingredients were not fresh. Perhaps I bought a pizza type that is not popular in the area.
google avatar

J.W. S.

Yelp
Pizza was amazing! That locally sourced sausage is . Great selection of beer too. Super cool vibe.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Great staff and a lovely chill vibe -- try the spicy cider. The pizza is great -- serve towards that on the menu rather than anything else. Feels safe as a place to eat as a single woman
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
Drive by and saw this place looked it up and it had some good reviews. The buffalo cauliflower was roasted and not deep fried. Very tasty and not too hot. The pizza was very good as well. Husband has the Big Wheel- think Big Mac on a pizza crust. The Caprese was loaded with cheese, topped with tomatoes, fresh basil and a delicious balsamic reduction. Definitely stop for some great flavor combos on a crust.
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
Pizza. Had better though. It was a bit on the runnier side. But very hot and fresh. Place was full of kids when we went and the TVs were distracting.
google avatar

Joshua A.

Yelp
Never been to pizza mind but disappointed in this restaurant. Sat at the bar and smelled of dirty mop water. I mean they plenty of time to clean because of the COVID pandemic. Also a surprising amount of flies inside for November. Hard to eat my pizza while attempting to keep them off of it at the same time. Order the buffalo pizza got a mess where the pizza wasn't cut all the way. All my topping slid off when I went to eat it and I haven't had that be such as issue once you let it cool down a little. Might be a place others are super into, just not my favorite spot or one I would go out of the way of for.

Steve W.

Yelp
This is a staple in my weekly routine. Great staff and good food. My recommendations would be the dry rub ranch wings, the Caesar salad (the croutons are the best thing about it), and the white pie (it's simplicity is what makes it great).

Daniel C.

Yelp
Great place l, great food great service, I ordered a Cesar salad and supreme pizza and all was delicious.

Yelp
PIzza Mind has been such a great addition to West Asheville. I love the little foursome of businesses with them, Gan Shan West, Archetype Brewing and OWL bakery. Although they are separate businesses, because of their proximity to each other, it feels like a little village. I've been into Pizza Mind to eat probably 4 or 5 times now and have ordered their pizza and brought it into Archetype on trivia nights a few times too. I'll start by explaining that I'm taking one star off simply because I don't really enjoy their cheese pizza. The marinara has an odd taste and it's quite greasy. Both times I ordered this, I was quite disappointed. That being said, everything else that I've had at Pizza Mind has been fantastic. I absolutely love their cauliflower and beet pizza, their buffalo pizza and their fried cauliflower appetizer. They also have a nice beer list and a full bar which gets them extra cool points. The inside of the restaurant has a great casual and inviting vibe. It's well decorated and I especially love the wallpaper back near the restrooms. I'm always a happy lady when I go here and the weather is nice so I can sit outside on their covered patio. The patio is dog-friendly too. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Girlfriend LOVES the taco pizza! The wings are to die for- crispy and derishious!! Great local spot.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Very good pizza in a cool setting. Server was friendly. The Gluten free pizza is pretty good according to my wife! Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Elena M.

Yelp
This is definitely a new hot spot in west AVL, and now I know why. First, their gluten free (and vegan) crust the is BEST that I have ever eaten. It was crunchy on the edges but also had a great crisp texture and was delicious. (It was almost like a pastry crust, and I wonder if that's because the pesto added extra oil)? My lunch date even wanted to eat my crust & was more excited about it, than his regular pizza crust. Let me tell you... they nailed the recipe for gluten free pizza dough. And compared to the mediocre gluten free crust that I've had at Mellow Mushroom, this was a perfect 10. Our server was also very attentive and came over numerous times to check on us and ask about the food. I also love the inside, as they focused on the small details. It took them time to renovate the space, repaint the exterior, and build their parking lot. So I think the prices reflect the level of ambiance. It's certainly not a dive. And I've seen it crowded as early as 4pm on a Friday. My gluten free pizza for one came to $13. They substitute vegan cheese for the real cheese for free. And then, I paid for the spinach, broccoli, and pesto sauce. It was one of the best pizzas that I've had in years. The only catch was that the pesto wasn't vegan. They use cashews and a fancy hard cheese to make it. So, I may pause to order that again. The second time that I came, I got portobellos instead of broccoli as last topping. Check out both pictures of the pizzas. The quality is quite consistent. Definitely give this place a chance, especially if you want to try gluten free, vegan pizza. They also have 2 brand new flat screen TVs at the bar, so I imagine that this would be a great place to watch a game. Bring the kids too, as they went out of their way to have a special kids menu. Plus, they even let the kids build the pizza on their own.
