"Pizza Palace, a neighborhood staple that’s been slinging slices from the corner of Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street since 1973, has closed. In June, Patch reported that owner Joe Vitale was in talks to hand over the decades-old shop to a new owner due to various “financial difficulties” that were impacting the business before the pandemic. The phone line has since been disconnected and the restaurant is marked as permanently closed on Google." - Luke Fortney

One of the best quality pizza places in Astoria. The slices are big and very cheesy! I’m talking intro to the ninja turtles 2 movie, where there’s that perfect cheesy bite. This place is a blast from the past with its vintage look and is a great example of why NEw York city has the best cheese slice. It’s got the crunch, lots of cheese and the sauce is slamin! Go do your self a favor and get a cheese slice and a coke from this place you Jabroni.

If you are looking for a quick bite off the subway, it’s not a bad spot. Slices are big and the menu is endless. There is definitely better pizza around in my opinion.

The sesame seed crust is something you’ll either really enjoy or find really weird. I really enjoyed it. It’s pretty thick, but the right blend of fluffy and dense. Plenty of room to sit and enjoy a slice, and even play some video games in the back.

We ordered the beef guron chicken gyro fries and the garlic bread. All were tasty. Good size portions

Crust was soft with a crunch. The sauce is a bit sweet... I actually TASTE the sauce! 🤤 Chill atmosphere and plenty of space.

A place that's also been there "forever" along with L&B in Brooklyn, and for good reason. Great regulars, great gyros

Way overpriced. As far as the quality of the food goes, the pizza is okay. They obviously feel bigger is better and all the portions in this place are humongous. For some things, maybe too humongous. Like the chicken rolls for example. Way too much chicken inside than it needs to be. The balance of the roll is completely off. But the biggest takeaway is definitely the price. By far the most expensive pizzeria in Astoria. 2 slices, fries and coke will run you 18 dollars. I can’t get over how much the fries are in this place. 6.25 for a potato. Their logic is, If expenses goes up, let’s keep raising the prices. And they were raising the prices before this crazy inflation hit. But I have some logic of my own which is: if it doesn’t work as a business anymore, get rid of it!!

This place is CLOSED as of yesterday, August 7, 2022. I just called today for delivery, a guy answered and said they closed yesterday. NO MORE FOOD. NO MORE DELIVERIES. Was a good place for years since I first went in there as a toddler in 1979. The last 10-15 years though their price raises were ridiculous. I remember paying about 0.85 cents for a slice in 1987 after school to $4.50 last week. Honestly, inflation does NOT cover that. Most Ditmars Astoria people were disgusted by how our hometown pizzeria we grew up with were trying to rob the very people that supported and loved them. They thought they could take advantage of their history here. They became money hungry and that was very sad to see. I feel bad for the cooks there. But in the long run, I suppose it’s not a surprise that they closed. They had it coming.
