First, off, I will say that you can definitely get some satisfying pizza here and while it is indeed accurate that delivery times can vary depending on when you place an order, in my experience, most of the time they are fairly quick and reliable. That being said, I have not eaten any Pinoli's in the past two years because both of my most recent experiences have been problematic.
So the first incident was close to two years ago, and a friend of mine and I ordered their S7 Poutine/Wing special and medium pepperoni pizzas. So after over an hour of waiting (to be fair, it was a Friday so I am sure they had a large volume of orders), the delivery person arrives with our order, but only a single pizza. I inform him that there must be a mistake because all their non-specialty pizzas are a 2-for-1 deal. He calls the owner who tells me that because I didn't mention the special, I only get one. I mentioned to him that I have ordered dozens of times over the years and never had this happen before. I also mentioned to him that the delivery menu states "Always 2 for 1". I also point out that the receipt handed to me by the driver also has "Always 2 for 1". At this point, he tells me that there is a price for 1 pizza and a price for 2 pizzas, and that since it is a busy time and that he can't justify sending back a "free" pizza (even though I feel I technically paid for it; "always 2-for-1" --- apparently not).
Given it was now over an hour and half later since our order was placed, that I had a hungry houseguest, and that it was a busy time in which mistakes can happen, I simply asked the owner if I could place an order for the second pizza and that I would be willing to pay for it. Another hour later, a single pizza arrives and the price on the second bill is exactly the same as their listed menu price. I call the restaurant back to verify the price (because the owner told me there was a price for a single pizza and a price for 2) and the employee tells me that that the price is the same and that it is "Always 2 for 1". He could have given me a discount, he could have sent me a third free pizza when I was technically having to repay for the second, heck he could have offered a simple apology, but nothing and instead I feel I had to shell out 70 dollars for a meal that spanned close to three hours. I told the delivery person that I did not appreciate being lied to and that I was not paying for the second order and closed the door.
To be fair, the wife of the owner called me back after and told me had she been there, she would have handled the situation differently.
Fast forward to tonight: I received a new menu in the mail this week, and I decide to give them another try. Their new prices have significantly increased (14.90 for my beloved 8 wing/poutine combo, and 21 dollars for medium pepperoni pizzas) but when I place the order, the employee tells me the total is almost 46 dollars, pushing me to over 50 bucks with tip.. Knowing basic math, I tell them that something doesn't add up and the owner tells me that they raised the prices 3 months ago, despite the fact that I just received their new menu a couple of days ago. Not wanting any additional shenanigans, I simply cancelled my order.
My point is I feel there is a discrepancy between what Pinoli advertises and what you actually get as a paying customer. I know it's just pizza and all and complaining is lame to me, but to treat customers willing to pay $50+ on multiple occasions like morons who can't read or perform basic math seems like a poor business model, but hey, maybe that's just me.
My bottom line: The ownership has made it difficult for me to enjoy their products anymore. For the rest of you, they do make yummy pizza, so perhaps the best thing to do is show in person when you need your melted cheese fix. Hope y'all have better luck ;)
